Rate this book
What would the world look like in the grips of a highly contagious virus causing mental illness? What if that virus, created as a weapon by our own government, leaked before completion of a crucial antidote? When faced with that very situation in The Enemy Within, the US military activates a brutal containment strategy— a grisly soldier named Fox. As Fox hunts contacts of the virus, he also becomes infected. His only hope for a cure is to protect the two people he was sent to kill, Jack and Claire. The trio hide away to buy time for Jack, an imminent virologist, to develop an antidote. As a trained psychotherapist, Claire attempts to keep the group grounded while the virus leads them all further from reality. Time runs thin and paranoia mounts as the group faces multiple threats. But which threat will prove to be fatal? The military tasked with hunting them down or what lurks within causing an inevitable psychosis?

The Enemy Within by Greg Player is a fast-paced, exciting thriller that kept me hooked from the first page. The story is full of twists and turns, and just when I thought I had it figured out, something new surprised me.

One of the most chilling parts is the virus at the center of it all—a weapon that doesn’t just attack the body, but destroys people’s will to live. It’s such a unique and terrifying idea, and it makes the whole story feel even more intense. It’s scary to think that something like this could actually happen.

If you like thrillers with great characters, smart writing, and a plot that keeps you guessing, this book is a must-read. I couldn’t put it down. Definitely a five-star read!

Not my usual genre but pretty good. It's about a psychologist who lost her sister and her best friend to a deadly virus developed by the government as a biological weapon. Problem is the government used it on its own citizens.
Goes into a lot of medical detail which is one of the things I enjoyed about it. As a retired RN, it was accurate as far as what was causing the symptoms of the virus. Interesting characters. No big surprises but a decent read all the same.

Fast-Paced and Thrilling

An exciting page-turner with a pace that never stops and a plot that’s just realistic enough to feel true. Great characters and a perfect ending. Warning: don’t read this at bedtime if you need to get to sleep, because you’ll be up all night turning pages to find out what happens next!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was exciting, suspenseful and compelling. The characters were all so realistic and relatable that I put certain actors into the story as I imagined a movie based on this book. I would highly recommend “The Enemy Within” for any fiction reader

This book was incredible.

The author’s medical background brings so much authenticity to the story, especially around the brain science, and the characters are so real and memorable. It’s smart, emotional, and completely gripping from start to finish.

Highly recommend!

Not gonna lie, this took me WAY too long to read. I had really high hopes for this one based off of reviews and I love anything/ everything psychological thriller. Which this definitely was. I don’t know, to me there were a lot of slow moments which was odd for a book less than 300 pages.

Just an outstanding medical thriller. An engineered virus that “escapes” before an antidote is developed.

Character development makes you feel like you really know them. Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist and turn. Really keeps you guessing.

First book I’ve read from Greg Player, but will definitely look for others.
