Rate this book
Forced into hiding, Keres Von Kesting yearns for a normal life, but the dark secrets she harbors threaten to unravel everything.

Desperate to escape her troubled past, Keres has spent the last six months living quietly under the protection of her best friend Hez and his witch coven. As she strives for normalcy, she pretends the shadowy magic in her veins makes her just like a witch. Even if she knows that her magic is something different—and more powerful—than any the witches have dealt with before.

When a chance encounter leads to her arrest for forged citizenship papers, Keres is offered a deal by the High Priestess of Cristata. If Keres returns to the dangerous world of her past to recover a list of ancient artifacts, all will be forgiven. If she does not, the fragile life she has built will be ripped away, putting not just the coven, but the secret Keres would do anything to protect at risk.

Caught between her hidden truth and the demands of the Priestess, Keres must do what she does track down what doesn't want to be found. Thrust into the heart of a conflict between the Cristatan government and a growing rebellion, Keres navigates encounters with powerful figures on both sides of the conflict. To do so, she must tap into the darkness she thought she had left behind, only to stumble upon a shocking discovery that upends her entire world—someone else with magic just like hers.

Lady Nightmare is the first high-stakes fantasy adventure in the War of the Old Gods series, where Keres is forced to navigate a web of danger and deceit, and her choices could either save her or cost her everything.

3.75 stars—this book took me a minute to get into because there is a lot of information to start BUT I am very glad I pushed through! I absolutely loved the FMC Keres! This was an adventurous, fantasy! It reminded me of the show White Collar, but make it with shadow magic and witches! Also…the ending 🤯
Cannot wait to read the next book!

So i must say this book did take me a bit to get into. for me It started off very slow and I’m a fast pace reader, but I got through it and love the whole spin that Rachel M Yoldie put into this book. This book was an interesting fantasy with magic romance. We love the Badass FMC Keres! She has the power of shadows.(Shadow Mommy) Keres to me, owns this book and she’s lethal. Keres is just trying to life but her past is catching up with her and having to face consequences of her actions.

Now with the secrets that keres is hiding and the plot twist at the end had my jaw dropping 😱🤯so I am definitely excited for book 2

I am an arc reader for “Lady Nightmare” By Rachel M. Yoldie I am grateful for giving the chance to be apart of her team and giving a physical copy in exchange for a honest review of the book.

This book took me a while to get through but I pushed my self and got through it so glad I did tho.
So without trying to giving a lot away this is a good book to read for those who love a good fantasy with some spicy here and there along with some funny moments and if your into shadow daddy (xayden) then read about our shadow mommy🤭
Keres has shadow powers (shadow mommy) and is a bad ass bitch I love her, she has secrets from her past she wants to keep hidden which is why she is now apart of a new coven but he past is catching up to her now that people know who she is and because of that they are black mailing her to help them to keep her identity under wraps.
I love how Keres and Hez’s relationship is they have the brother sister/ besties vibes going and omg Geoff I love him this lil demon thing he is funny and all he wants is Keres attention. And don’t get me started in the hell beast she is so protective of Hez it’s funny and cute. I feel I’ve given to much away but overall this book was a great read a little slow paced for my liking but so can’t wait for book 2 to come out. I love this book especially Keres she is absolutely my favorite 🥰

I’m so thankful to be given the opportunity to be an arc reader for Rachel M Yoldi this book was so amazing 😊🤗

This was my very first ARC post within the bookish community and what a high bar it set! I’m a pretty quick reader and while I struggled in the beginning to grasp the world (this isn’t a negative - Rachel does an amazing job of building the scene), once I got going I found I couldn’t put it down. Witches are very rarely represented well in this space and I loved the concepts and storyline. I cannot WAIT to read the next one :)

HOLY MOTHER OF PLOT TWISTS
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️

Summary:
Keres Von Kesting has been in hiding from her past and the dark secrets she harbors. Under the safety of her witch friend Hez and his coven, she tries to live a normal life under an alias. But Keres has a powerful and dark secret running through her veins; an unheard of shadow magic that is almost as sentient as Keres herself. After being arrested for forged citizenship paperwork, her little slice of normalcy begins to unravel when she is forced to strike a deal with the Cristatan Guard to retrieve missing ancient artifacts OR face the consequences of her actions from the life she worked so hard to escape from. As she begins her hunt for these artifacts, she reveals information on rebellions and mysterious people with similar magic to hers. All the while, she catches the attention of Cristata’s High Pristess, who Keres and her Coven actively try to shield Keres from. Much to her dismay, the High Pristess intervenes in her investigation. Will Keres complete her task with the intervention? Will she have regrets?

Review:
Shut. The. Front. Door. Rachel M. Yoldi has an amazing way of spinning a captivating tale. I can not believe this is her debut novel! Keres is a strong and witty FMC with the power of shadows (hellloooooo shadow mommy) and the skill of an assassin. The banter in this book is absolutely hilarious, whether it is between Keres and her shadows, Keres and Hez, or the two demon roommates. Keres also has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that I absolutely gobbled up. Lady Nightmare is very plot driven with very little spice. Spice is not drawn out or prolonged. As this is book 1 in the War of The Old Gods series; there is tons of world building. The story progression is slow as we get a good background on different characters Keres encounters and descriptive places/history.

Lady Nightmare has left me wanting more and gnawing at the bit to find out what happens next after the huge plot twist of an ending. I feel the secrets Keres is hiding is just now beginning to be revealed and we have barely scraped the surface! I rated Lady Nightmare 5⭐️ and 1🌶️! For those who love SJM, Rebecca Yarros etc, this needs to be on your TBR!!

I really REALLY wanted to like this book. It was right up my alley. Fantasy. Badass female main character. Shadows. Witches. And a dark past. But I could not get past the way this was written. All throughout the book, I couldn't tell who was saying or doing what. In the same line it would begin talking about somebody else reacting to said comment or action. It was all so confusing. And to top it off, there was almost too much description going on. It might have just been a me problem, because even with all the description, I couldn't picture any of the locations in my mind. Unfortunately, I will not be continuing with the series.

Rachel M. Yoldi’s Lady Nightmare is a riveting urban fantasy that expertly weaves elements of magic, mystery, and self-discovery into a seamless narrative. The story’s protagonist, Keres Von Kesting, is a deeply complex character, struggling with the dual desires for normalcy and the need to embrace her powerful, unique magic. This tension is the heart of a novel that is as thought-provoking as it is thrilling.

Keres’s life is one of concealment and quiet desperation, living under the radar with the help of her best friend Hez and his witch coven. Yoldi portrays Keres’s attempt to blend in with the witches with sensitivity and insight, capturing the isolation that comes from harboring a secret that could destroy everything she cherishes. The portrayal of Keres’s inner conflict—between hiding her true nature and using her formidable powers—is compelling and relatable, making her journey a deeply personal one for readers.

The narrative takes a dramatic turn when Keres is arrested and coerced into a dangerous mission by the High Priestess of Cristata. This mission, to retrieve a list of ancient artifacts, not only heightens the stakes but also forces Keres to confront her past and the dark powers she possesses. Yoldi’s pacing is impeccable, with each chapter peeling back layers of mystery and intrigue, driving the story forward at a relentless pace.

The setting of Cristata is vividly drawn, teeming with political intrigue and a burgeoning rebellion that adds depth to the narrative. Yoldi does a masterful job of building a world that feels expansive and fully realized, populated by characters who are both powerful and flawed. The dynamic between the government and the rebels provides a rich backdrop for Keres’s actions, influencing her decisions and testing her allegiances.

One of the novel’s most striking elements is its exploration of identity and power. As Keres taps into her dark magic, she faces not just external enemies but also the frightening potential of her own abilities. The discovery of another with magic like hers introduces new questions about her origins and destiny, enriching the story with unexpected twists and revelations.

Yoldi’s prose is elegant and forceful, capable of conveying deep emotional states and thrilling action with equal skill. The dialogue is sharp, revealing character motives and relationships with precision and grace. The interactions between Keres and the figures she encounters, allies and adversaries alike, are charged with tension and significance, each one shedding light on her complex personality and the brutal world she navigates.

In conclusion, Lady Nightmare is a masterpiece of urban fantasy that offers an intense, emotionally charged journey through a world of hidden magic and murky ethics. Rachel M. Yoldi delivers a story that is not only entertaining but also resonant, exploring themes of power, secrecy, and identity with nuance and power. This book is a triumph, deserving of its five-star rating and a must-read for fans of the genre seeking depth and darkness intertwined with hope and redemption.

Looking for a book with an intricate storyline, a badass FMC, witches, shadow magic, a search for ancient artifacts, and political intrigue? Look no further!

This is a brilliantly written debut novel that kicks off an exciting fantasy series. The world-building is rich and detailed, but being the first book in the series, it takes some time to fully sink in. Keres Von Kesting is in hiding. In the city of Cristata, she goes by Thea, a friendly, everyday bartender. However, when the city guard catches her, her true identity is exposed. She’s forced into a contract to retrieve lost artifacts, but what starts as a simple task quickly becomes more dangerous. Keres must rely on her connections and shadow magic to track down a powerful and mysterious necklace, all while navigating a brewing conflict between the government of Cristata and a rebellion.

The book took me a little over halfway to truly immerse myself, mainly due to the heavy world-building in the beginning. I took off a star because the world-building felt more like a hurdle at first. That said, this is one of those books that constantly keeps you guessing, with layers of mystery that make you want to piece everything together.

Keres is an absolute powerhouse! Her shadow magic is mesmerizing, and it’s clear she hasn’t even unlocked the full extent of her abilities yet. She’s a strong, confident character who takes on challenges without hesitation. Then there’s Hez, with his lightning magic—definitely a standout! I need more of him in future books. He’s absolutely top-notch best friend material. There's a subtle hint of romance, and I’m curious to see if it turns into a romantasy in future books. There are a few characters I’m wondering if Keres will end up having a romantic connection with, and I’m excited to see where that goes.

Overall, this is a fantastic read, and I can’t wait for book 2!

🖤 Shadow Mommy
🗣️ Her Shadows Talk Back
❓ Unknown Backstory
🫣 Hidden Magic (Dark?)
📖 The Plot Thickens...

“You should shut your mouth. I saw a fly buzzing around here somewhere.”

“White marble pillars rose up from the earth, extensions of the mountain itself, seated on the peak like a glittering diadem that crowned the land.”

“If I wanted you to beg for me, I would have dressed in latex and brought a whip.”

Thank goodness I can dive right into book 2 because... what the heck?! Rachel gave just enough closure to satisfy her reader, but honestly, left me with WAY MORE questions than answers!

I can see the set-up for some kind of EPIC war that's about to take place - we're seeing shifts in power and Keres will undoubtedly have to come out of retirement permanently! It's about to get REALLY ugly! I'm also worried about some of these likable characters... like sweet Geoff… DON’T DO IT Rachel! Please and thank you!

I’m LOVING these BA FMC’s that I’ve been reading recently and Keres is definitely another one! She is insanely self-confident and sure of her abilities - she literally doesn’t take sh*t from anyone! Also, she ALWAYS gets the job done! I hope to learn more of her backstory in book 2 because that last chapter added an INSANE amount of intrigue…

Besides Keres being an absolute terror to her enemies, I also loved the “Found Family” that you felt while reading. Hez is a HUGE support to a pretty standoffish Keres… he’s got her back. Always. I got a little worried there in the middle, but he’s definitely a solid guy. I really like his character.

Overall, I just don’t know who’s really the bad guy or the good guy and if they will stay “bad” or “good” - this black stone is about to change the game though… of that I AM SURE!

I recently read Lady Nightmare by Rachel M. Yoldi, and I have one thing to say—I wish I would’ve been warned about me becoming obsessed?! Keres Von Kesting is everything I love in a main character: sharp-tongued, dangerous, and carrying enough secrets to make my head spin… ANDDDD HELLO SHADOW MOMMYYYY. She’s been in hiding, trying (and failing) to live a quiet life, but when her past catches up with her, she’s forced into a high-stakes mission full of stolen artifacts, deadly magic, and a rebellion she never meant to get tangled in. Oh, and did I mention she has sentient shadow magic that practically has its own personality? Because yes please. AGAIN… HELLOOOO SHADOW MOMMYYY!!!

The world-building in this book is top-tier, weaving together witches, demons, and an intricate political web that had me hooked from the start. The banter? Chef’s kiss. Keres and Hez had me cracking up, and don’t even get me started on the baby demons and the chaos that ensued. The pacing is definitely more plot-heavy with some slower moments for character development, but the action and twists kept me on my toes. And THAT ending?! I need book two immediately, because the revelations in the last few chapters had me screaming for more!

If you love SJM, Rebecca Yarros, or anything with morally gray magic, Lady Nightmare needs to be on your TBR. For this to be Rachel Yoldi’s debut title, is unbelievable. She KICKED SOME SERIOUS ASS in her writing, and with Keres’ story just getting started, I cannot wait to see what kind of chaos she (both Rachel and Keres) unleash in Book 2.

I received this book for free along with an advanced reader copy for the second book, and was only asked an honest review in return, so here it is. I adore this book and can't wait for the rest of the series. The two main draws for me were the world building and the min character Keres. Keres has moved from one portion of the known world within the story into another. We do not know why she left or why it felt like she's escaping. There is a lot of political maneuvering and social/political tension growing throughout the book and Keres is forced into using her expertise from who she was before she moved into helping solve a case of missing artifacts. What I love about the way Yoldi introduces these tensions and worldbuilding, both from current events within the story and history is that its seamlessly interwoven throughout the story and is in fact integral to the story without Keres being directly involved. She is affected by what's happening and what she does may have further implications but she is not directly making plans for the fate of the world. This may not be true for the entire series, I could definitely see it changing, but I do find it refreshing that it's true for now. The second gem for the story is Keres herself. She is a sassy, snarky, sarcastic shadow wielder who does not trust easily. Wow that's a lot of Ss. What I find interesting about the shadows is they're more than just a magic power used as a plot device or a tool to help the character succeed. Keres shadows are both intrinsically part of her and yet somehow completely other from her. They are some kind of weird combination of spies, Keres friend, her inner conscience and her confidant. They are also very thirsty when attractive men are around. There isn't a lot of spice but when its there its pretty detailed. I did find myself confused by the romance or lack there of because Yoldi does not adhere to typical methods of plot and romance, I was constantly wondering when each male character was introduced if they were going to be the love interest. Without being too spoilery, the first guy that I thought was a contender never showed up again. I'm kind of hoping he does show up later even if it's not as a love interest. If you're a fan of not only fantasy but mystery novel, this book is for you.

4.5⭐️ From the very first page, this book throws you right into the story and pulls you into a world filled with magic and danger. This story has high stakes, compelling characters, plenty of plot twists, a whole lot of banter, and a bit of mystery.

Rachel M. Yoldi’s writing is incredible. Her talent for world building was obvious from the very beginning of this book. Her writing is vivid, I could clearly envision the world as if it was truly a real life place. The characters felt real, each were layered, intriguing, and had their own individual personalities. There are some subtle hints of romance in the story, but we’ll have to wait and see if that goes anywhere in the next book.

I loved the FMC, Keres, she’s a very strong, confident, and complex character and I found her powers to be very interesting. Hez was one of my favorite characters, he’s cool, sassy, and caring. I loved Keres and Hez’s friendship so much and enjoyed reading their scenes together.

This was a true page turner! And I can definitely say that, after the cliff hanger ending, I’m so ready to read the next book! Rachel M. Yoldi really knows how to hook her readers and keep them hooked. This whole story is riveting, vivid, and engaging. If you’re looking for a fantasy book you can’t put down, look no farther than Lady Nightmare.

Huge thank you to Rachel M. Yoldi for letting me join her street team and providing me with a copy of the ebook!

Keres Von Kesting is in hiding. She has run away from her previous life and everything she has known and now lives a relatively quiet life with Hez and the Atheris coven. Until she is suddenly arrested for previous crimes and offered a thin lifeline - a deal by the High Priestess to use her particular skillset to obtain something. Yet all the while, Keres’ instincts tell her there is more danger in this quest than she was expecting.

I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a day. The world felt so real in a magical realism/neo noir kind of way, and it is so well described that I felt like I could picture the scenes in my head. The world building and wider history, geography and socio-political context (including amazing maps drawn by the author herself!) were obviously so clearly well thought out and yet it wasn’t all clumped together (which would have been too much to get my head around due to information overload), but instead sprinkled around until the whole picture is complete and yet you still want to know more!

Keres is a wonderful character. She has had a difficult life, and it has left emotional scars on her - she finds trusting anyone but Hez all but impossible and is constantly looking over her shoulder. She doesn’t always react in the best or most sensible way, but she is a relatable individual and I felt affection towards her from very early on. She is an absolute badass, and I am dying for the sequel - I want her to get an ending she deserves. Romance isn’t a large feature in this book, but it is the first of a series and the ground has been laid beautifully.

The pacing of the story was just right, and the way it ebbed and flowed just felt effortless - a sign of a fantastic author! I was enthralled and finished the whole book in 24 hours. For a reader who enjoys intrigue and mystery; a gritty but vivid world and an action packed plot this is absolutely for you!

If you liked Quicksilver, this is for you!

I’m so glad I already have book 2, because what was that ending?! I closed my Kindle and just stared at the cover for a while… WHAT A CLIFFHANGER.
This dark fantasy has it all: high stakes, witches, powerful magic, mysterious artifacts, and a world that feels both rich and dangerous. It’s clear this is only the beginning, and book 2 is going to take it even further.
Our FMC, Keres, is absolutely incredible. She’s a powerful, fearless heroine and a true representation of someone living with bipolar disorder. The way her anxiety and panic attacks are written is so vivid and accurate, you can almost feel them as you read. Her struggles don’t make her less brave, they make her even stronger, more human, and more inspiring. She is a morally gray shadow momma.
And her shadows deserve their own spotlight. They talk to her, investigate for her, protect her, they’re companions as much as they are magic, and one of my favorite parts of this book.
When Keres is discovered in Viridis, she’s forced to sign a contract with the Guard and the city’s High Priestess. To secure her documents and freedom, she must recover lost artifacts. From there, the story becomes a thrilling puzzle of lies, spies, mob ties, and unknown magic, all wrapped in a dark, gripping mystery.
I’m very relieved I can jump straight into book 2. This saga has incredible potential, and I’m already in love.

If you love dark fantasy stories that have such amazing characters you can’t stop thinking about them, you’ve got to read Lady Nightmare!

This book hooked me from the very beginning. Keres is a powerful and intelligent shadow momma, who always seems to be two steps ahead. She ran away from her dark past to move in with her friend Hez and join his coven. Keres has a strange, dark and icy magic, that she pretends is like the coven’s, but hasn’t fully tapped into her power. Forced to use her skills to find missing artifacts, Keres goes down a path that will hopefully free her from her past she has been running from.

Lady Nightmare is dark, full of twists and turns, and characters that you will absolutely fall in love with. The banter is to die for! There is a lot of information and world building, but the writing is well done and thought out, it maintained a beautiful flow to the story. Lady Nightmare will leave you reeling with all the mysterious things going on in Keres world and the people in her life. A must-read for those that love an FMC with a tragic past full of darkness.

Thank you so much to the amazing Rachel M. Yoldi for providing me with a digital copy of Lady Nightmare!
From the moment I started reading Lady NightMare I was hooked on this story and the characters in it. I love Keres relationship with Hez and how beautiful their friendship is. I also really enjoyed the two demons that live with them, I loveee those two so much and how much they both kept making me laugh throughout this book!
As I was reading this book I was trying to understand Keres shadow powers, it felt like I would finally understand them and then a new plot twist would throw me for a loop. This book definitely kept me on my toes with what would happen next and what trouble Keres would get herself into.
The ending of this book has me so excited for book two!

From the first few pages, this book pulled me straight into a world of shadows and secrets where nothing feels safe. Keres Von Kesting isn’t your typical heroine. She’s cautious, a little broken, and trying to hold her life together while hiding the parts of herself that could destroy everything. The illusion of normalcy doesn’t last long before everything she’s buried starts to surface.

What I loved most was the way Rachel Yoldi built her world. The magic feels lived in, not explained. The coven, the artifacts, and the eerie sense that something ancient is stirring all come together naturally. Every part of the story feels like it belongs to something bigger, but it never loses sight of Keres and her struggle to control her own fate.

Keres is the kind of character who frustrates you in the best way. She makes mistakes, she second-guesses herself, and she keeps fighting anyway. The layers of betrayal, control, and buried power give the story real weight. It starts slowly, but once the pieces begin to connect, it becomes impossible to stop reading.

In a word pedantic. The basic premise is nothing original, a powerful and withdrawn heroine that quickly overcomes obstacles, but there are so many interruptions to the story with side characters that hold little importance or foreshadowing that the plot is lost, buried under a rubble of minute detailing. This is a long underwhelming story with unexplored ubiquitous threads like the city's anatomical structure and the moon cycles. I could forgive the monotonous focus on perusal fact gathering if there was an underlying consciousness behind it, but I didn't perceive cultural, interpersonal, political, or psychological underpinnings to the plot or characters. It is well worked in terms of eloquent word flow and I could see this being read, pointedly, as a directors cut of a screen play, because it does present a very clear observation of action and attribute, but it isn't enough to make for a good novel. 2.5 stars

One of the best parts about being on Rachel Yoldi’s ARC team is surviving that killer cliffhanger and immediately diving into Shadwitch for the continuation. Pure perfection.

Like others have mentioned, the beginning moves a little slower( especially for fast readers like me) but trust me, it’s worth sticking with.

Keres, our FMC, radiates pure baddie shadow queen energy. No spoilers, but her journey hits deep. It’s about how the choices we make always catch up to us and how we can’t hide our true selves forever. The universe has a way of pulling the truth into the light. In Keres’s case, that truth comes in the form of her deadly shadow magic.

Lady Nightmare, as the first book in the Old Gods series, leans heavier on world-building, but I can already tell it’s setting us up for something epic.

This book was such an adventure. Rachel M. Yoldi’s world building was rich and elaborate and SO creative. I loved the world’s unique blend of modern contemporary elements (motorbikes, clubs) but also many elements of a more fantastical world (motorbikes and cars run on crystals powered by witch magic, but horses and carriages also used, communication by telegram or runners, etc). Also the FMC is a badass who does literal parkour and commands shadows. This felt a lot like a fantasy/magic cop mystery and I loved it, but there is so much detail in the plot and in the unraveling of the mystery, you do have to really pay attention! The ending had my jaw dropping and I can’t wait to read Shadewitch (book 2) soon!!

First & foremost: Keres has GOT to be one of my fave FMC’s in awhile. She is sooooooo badass. This book absolutely exceeded all expectations I had. Her inner monologue was so refreshing as I haven’t read a character like her, flaws and all, in awhile.

I loved that spice didn’t outweigh the plot in this book. The plot was much more prominent with minor spice scenes.

It started a little slow for me but once things picked up, I could not put it down. The mystery, the thrills, the banter, the twists & turns?!?!? Incredible. The end had my jaw on the FLOOR!!!

I am so looking forward to book 2 as this easily moved up to one of my top reads of this year so far.

Wow. This was a ride. It took me a minute to process due to the amount of information that your given off the bat but man once you get what’s going on, it’s such an incredible ride.

We follow Keres who’s a shadow mommy. She is a complete badass who takes no crap. She has buckets of secrets from her past that she wants to stay hidden. We are introduced to a couple amazing characters. Hez being one. He’s like an older brother to Keres. Also Geoff. Cutest little demon ever.

There is some spice. But not much. The book really follows what Keres is going through. I really enjoyed it. I’ve Keres come backs. Man she hurt my feelings at times. lol. I definitely will be reading book two

I was provided an ARC copy by the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. Keres is a shadow witch in hiding, and when she is found out, must retrieve lost artifacts to fulfill her contract for full citizenship. Overall, the book was great! It was a great start to the series, with extensive world building, unique magic system, introductions to a wide range of characters, and giving some larger plot points that I’m sure will be expanded on book 2. The book does end with a slight cliffhanger and there is some spice, but the main focus is on Keres’ story, more mystery and humor than romance.

Holy hell, that was an insane ride!! I just finished book one in the War of the Old Gods Series! Thank you @rachelmyoldi for allowing me to read an eARC of Lady Nightmare!!! These opinions are my own!!

We’ve got witches and demons and dark magical deals… our FMC is hiding her identity and she is a shadow mommy?? Whhhhaaatttt? It’s a treasure hunt with several twists!!!

There’s incredible sarcasm and banter! There’s some spice intermixed but definitely plot forward!

I can’t wait to read the next book!!

Just finished this book and wow—what a ride! I went in completely blind, with no prior knowledge of the story, and I’m so glad I did. It was packed with mystery, adventure, and, refreshingly, a strong focus on the plot itself. I was hooked from start to finish, constantly guessing, and now I can’t wait for the sequel to get some answers!

I really enjoyed having a morally grey female main character—it added so much depth. But I have to say, my heart was completely stolen by Geoff, the sweetest demon around. I truly hope we see a lot more of him in the next book!

A fantastic read overall.

✨ARC Review✨

Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

This book was a fun dark fantasy to read. It was a little bit slower for me due to the world building and character development, but Rachel does a fantastic job of letting you get to know the characters. But our shadow mommy, FMC…yeah, she’s everything you’d want in your FMC. She’s a badass and she’s lethal. She makes this whole book what it is! She just wants to live her life, but something from her past will catch up to her…and boy, do I need to start book 2 so I can get my jaw off the floor 🤯 the secrets and the plot twist, were the cherry on top!
