Star Cross Lovers

Rate this book
"Their love reigns still amid sorrow and loss,
A girl with a star, a boy and the cross."This is a love story, as you may have gathered by the foregoing sonnet—what’s romance without poetry? You’ll learn hardships plagued our two young lovers beyond belief. Tragedy befell them in so many ways, some too horrific to describe, not here, not now. Though their torment was shocking and profound, their love was so much more, and so this story—their story—demands to be told. A there is grief in the telling, it’s unavoidable given the truth of what happened. But because they loved with such joy, their story is one that will be told throughout the ages.

They suffered trauma, agony, and unspeakable evil, yet they persevered and abide as two become one. Their love transcended the vengeance, the betrayals, the deceit, and every instance of ugliness that dominated their world. Even in death, their love endured, and with it, life. You see, this story is about love, yes, but also about life. For their love transcended all, and in the end, life prevailed. Even still, life prevails.

And it began with a kiss.

My novels span multiple genres based on the story being told. Here is a brief summary of each:

"Star Cross Lovers" is the story of a forbidden romance of a couple thought to be enemies in World War II. Their bond transcended all the evil and oppression of the world to forge a love story for the ages. And it began with a kiss.

The novel “Satanwake” is a medical thriller set in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic. It asks the question, what would you pay to live longer? A small pharma company has an innovation that can radically change human life. But they are out of money and running out of time to get it to market. A mysterious business tycoon appears and makes a deal. With no other options, the CEO makes the bargain and the company releases the product. And the world is forever changed.

"Songs of the Deliverer - A Modern Day Story of Christ" is a re-imagining of the story of Christ set in modern day. The Gospel of John ends with the verse: "Jesus did many other things. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written." The "Songs of the Deliverer" is my contribution to fill the world with the good news of Christ. It is the first in a series on religion and spirituality.

"Songs of the Deliverer II - Faith Wins" is the story of the apostles who overcome torment and oppression to tell the world of the miracles Christ did and the promises he made. Their witness is our salvation. Without their courage, Christ would have been kept hidden. This is the second book of the series.

"Songs of the Deliverer III - Glory Born" tells the story of a grieving old man and an orphan girl who are called to witness the birth of a miracle child. As they strive to fulfill their mission they are confronted by evil and tyranny. Success means salvation but if they fail, the world may be lost forever. "Glory Born" is the third book of the series serving as a modern day retelling of the Christmas story of the birth of an infant in a manger.

In “Songs of the Deliverer IV – Resurrection of Freedom” a battle for freedom is waged on the streets of the country. In the midst of this revolution, young grade school students are thrust into the eye of the storm and come face to face with the tyrannical ruler who deprives them of their liberties. Ensnared in extraordinary circumstances not of their making, these students stake their futures with the rebellion sweeping the country. Trapped and on the verge of defeat, an unlikely hero emerges to lead the way out. His trading chip - an item of the forsaken Christ that could change everything. An offer is made to the despot who agrees to a deal: reveal the proof of the vanquished savior or the students will be incarcerated for the rest of their lives. With time running out, the ransom is paid. Will the promise be kept? “Resurrection of Freedom” is the last installment of the “Songs of the Deliverer” series and culminates in the birth of a new nation echoing the American Revolution of 1776.

"A Perfect War" is a novel set during the founding of the European Union that exposes the threats to America as a result of failed governmental policies, misguided political leaders, and unforeseen global attacks. "A Perfect War" shows that what made America great in the past, is what is needed to restore America to greatness once again: belief in the fundamental truths of liberty and freedom.

Have your tissues ready when you read this book, because it is devastating. A young adult retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the beginning is deceptively cozy and comedic. Miriam and Dante, teenagers from the Italian village of Ortona, meet during a chance encounter and fall for each other quickly. A Jew and a Catholic, respectively, Miriam and Dante don’t mind their differences; in fact, each is fascinated by the other. But as World War II roars on, Italy more strongly establishes itself as an Axis power, and the violence of Hitler and Mussolini — along with the calculated persecution of Jewish people — arrives in usually peaceful Ortona.
This book is, if possible, even more tragic than the original play. I think this is because it features much more realistic plot points (as opposed to Friar Lawrence’s famous sleeping potion), and because the young lovers are a few crucial years older. Don’t expect a happy ending at all, and do expect the theme to focus more on blaming war and the evil of the world in general than on the bad decisions of parents and how they affect children. Despite its terribly sad ending, as a fan of Shakespeare tragedies, I loved this book. The author clearly has a thorough knowledge of both World War II history and of Shakespeare’s works, and I am eager to read more of their work.

Love and War

The story beautifully portrays the theme of love amidst chaos, adding a touch of humanity to the harsh realities of WWII. Bucci excels in conveying the individual plights of each character during the war, capturing their struggles, sacrifices, and hopes. The overall tone of the story is intense and gripping. I was immersed in the agony and ugliness of the war, feeling the pain each family had to endure and the emotional toll it took on them. Bucci’s attention to detail, from the battlefield to the home front, makes this book a must-read for those interested in this era. It serves as a powerful tribute to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to read an enthralling WWII story.

Two individuals from different backgrounds encounter each other by chance. Like Romeo and Juliet and countless other tales, their love was never meant to be, and yet it was. They undergo a number of difficulties as forces transpire to keep them apart. But where love blooms, and where hope endures, two people who are meant to be together despite the odds will find a way.

This novel is emotional without ever being cloying. Fans of romance and contemporary fiction should find it compelling and cheer the protagonists as they overcome the obstacles in their paths. Some readers may be reminded of works by the celebrated author S.E. Hinton.

can differences keep lovers apart?

This was such a great read, full of romance as well as factual snippets. It really held my interest, as it read like a realistic, historical fiction piece. I loved it and I highly recommend this book.
