Very good analysis of the Haitian political climate circa-2002, explaining the constraints and processes behind the failures of Aristide and Lavalas and why democratization in Haiti has proved so difficult. (In 2025, we could now say that democratization has still not succeeded) Probably not the easiest introduction to the topic for someone unfamiliar with Haitian politics, but very good political theory and analysis.

Solid analysis for the time, deep thinker, but at times very jargon-heavy.
