1.5 rounded up. I have read this author before and enjoyed many stories. This one - not so much. I’m in the minority I acknowledge, but the plot didn’t hold my interest and seemed to drag - story development convoluted - the story’s ending was fairly anticlimactic. The unrealistic reason for the murders couldn’t truly be reconciled in my head. (I literally finished this book with an West- to East - to West head shake.) Audiobook narrator read flat - a disappointment overall.

Ella seems a bit off the rails in this one. She's letting things from her personal life interfere with her working life, even Ripley, who is back in an odd way, notices and calls her out on it. Nothing seems to work, Ella keeps saying she got the bad guy and she did, but she crossed lines this time. I'm worried for her.

Just when you think there might be some resolution with Ben, that sort of blows up in her face and not in a good way and she walks away with no answers. But that doesn't compare to what happens right at the end. I hate that Ella knows what was in the box, because as the reader we don't, such a bad cliff hanger. I have thoughts, lots of them and glad that the next book comes out next week so that I don't have long to wait to find out.

This book took longer to read only because I hadn’t had time to read in my free time . Now that I’ve finished this book I’m glad Ella & Ripley are back together even if just while she finishes out her contract for the FBI . The case they are working hits close to home because this killer has broken into Ella’s home and she realized it towards the very end of the book . In her personal life which is pretty much now nonexistent her and beloved Ben are done . Ella finally asked him what happened to his dead ex girlfriend which ended up being Bens breaking point she caught a glimpse of a different side of him and then before she could ask or say anything more Ben said they were done and shut the door in front of her face . Ella and Ripley haven’t spoken to eachother since their more recent argument . The only good that came out of this book was we got another piece of information on who or why maybe her dad was murdered . While Ella was able to apprehend the serial killer on her own this time in her fathers storage unit , she discovered a box that was locked and went to the man who taught her all about locks and keys and they got into the box which left us readers in another cliff hanger . What are the contents in the box and what does this mean for Ella ??

Same book as the ten before it. Same plot. Same timeline. Same silly frustrations. Ella’s morals are no longer her own and I get that a person’s character and personality can change especially within a tough job. However, it doesn’t erase the underlying beliefs that the person has and Ella has gone from getting the facts and meticulous to I’m here to shoot first and ask questions later.

Can we have one book out of this series where the killer isn't obsessed with Ella, doesn't know Ella personally, or just isn't trying to kill her. The books should be called Killer Eleven, Another One Tries Again. I just want a case that has nothing to do with her or any of the other investigators of the case.

Everything is just so contradicting and I feel like if it’s happening books apart I could have more forgiveness to let it slide but it’s also happening within the same book. Keep in mind these books are only 200 or so pages long! “No we can’t ask him questions in the car, it may be inadmissible in court.” Proceeds to take the next suspect to the woods for her own personal questioning.

The book was okay not as good as some of the other books in the series. I was kinda bored with it to be honest.
What annoys me about the character Ella Dark is that she puts herself in unnecessary danger with these perpetrators to the point where she’s always by herself with the perpetrator. (In most cases)

If she knew who the perpetrator was by name and how it’s all connected and then tries to lurk him to a secluded area, why not call for backup beforehand? Even if she’s not 100% sure it’s the guy.
It’s great that she ends up putting the man behind bars but,
she’s clearly doesn’t know how to use her resources for good

What a great story Blake Pierce brought us with Girl, His. Ella and Mia are working back together again, and although both are happy, their relationship is not the same. They are searching for a serial killer who has gone into a killing spree and even though some one was brought into custody Ella is not convinced he is the culprit. On the other hand, she is in a dark space and her life is unraveling around her. She also has kept on looking for clues on who killed her father. I'm looking forward to reading the following book in this series! I thank the author for the ARC.

This time the serial killer is leaving a key with each victim that points to identity of the next victim. What do all these people have in common?
This story and the one before have ended with a "cliff hanger" that I have to find out so I read the next book even though I'm getting tired and Ella and her getting badly injured and then going back on the job in what seems like a few days - which of course is not possible in the real world. Ella's partner is retired and loving it but Ella still calls her for help and she ends up saving her life.

Another great read for the series

Mia Ripley, Ella's old partner, thought she was retiring but found out she has six more months before she can. So she's helping Ella track down a killer who leaves a key at each murder site as a clue to the next victim. Ella worked a while at a Lock and Key shop in her younger days, so she has a lot of insight into the clues. I am really enjoying reading this whole series. I am onto the next in the series, book number twelve. I believe there are 38 in all. I am reading them in order. I highly recommend this author.

the case was good in this book but, everything else was not my favorite. ripley and ella were arguing and her issue with ben just was bleh to me.
first of all, she overreacted to ripley and was totally uncalled for. secondly, she snooped on ben and was too chicken to say anything. then when she did, it totally blew back in her face. the should’ve talked to him sooner & didn’t go about it the way she did.

Great book. Classic Ella Dark case but this one had more depth than the others. The monster of the week was interesting but the main focus was on Ella's demons and her relationship with Ripley. Ben is always fun when he shows up too and I hope we get more of him going forward. This book is definitely recommended.

It is clear that Dark has some PTSD from all of the cases she has been working on, and now her boyfriend possibly being involved in a federal case. So, how she handled this case was questionable and "unhinged" for her behavior. She typically skirts the rules, and don't think they apply to her, but this one was blatant and just down right stupid.

Oof…wtf man. Ella was a whiny little word I dont want to use. What happened to her in this one? Her arrogance was annoying as hell, and her emotional regulation was non existent. She kinda needs to be humbled honestly and I’m glad she and Ben broke up. Im irritated.

I should have actually read this book? And the others? Instead of listening to them. This narrator has got to be the absolute worst I’ve ever heard. It makes me loathe every character. Nasally and boring. Terrible accent. Gah.
