One heist changed everything for Ridley. Continue the pulse-pounding journey as she uncovers the secrets of her past and races to remain one step ahead of those who hunt her.
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, a young science graduate named Rachel found that the real world wasn't a place she wanted to inhabit all the time. So she decided to escape into the magical realms that had occupied her mind since childhood.
Armed with a vivid imagination, Rachel spends her days conjuring up fantastical worlds filled with adventure, romance, and plot twists, where readers can escape the real world along with her.
Rachel lives in Cape Town, South Africa, with her husband, two little wildlings, and three fur-babies.
Rachel Morgan is one of my favourite authors, her writing style is captivating and the characters are so well-written. Elemental Power is the second book in the Ridley Kayne Chronicles, filled with twists and secrets. Ridley finally discovers she is not alone and in this instalment, the story takes on a new level of danger and adventure. I'm keeping it spoiler free, as the second book will definitely give spoilers for those who haven't read the first.
This series deserves more hype as Morgan has created such a unique magic system, the slow-burn romance is done well and the story has exactly what a young adult fantasy needs. We see Ridley finding herself and her magic and it keeps the reader captivated.
What makes this series different to other YA dystopian fantasies is that Morgan added something unique to the story, there is an X-factor that makes the reader come back for more. I would recommend this to readers who like slow-burn romance, magic, action and an FMC who doesn't back down.
Add this series to your TBR! Morgan has an incredible talent for writing and never disappoints! I will definitely reread this series as a comfort series.
Many thanks to Rachel Morgan for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this second instalment of the Ridley Kayne Chronicles so much! Archer and Ridley are such a wonderful dynamic duo and I love it when they work together. Do I ship them? Of course I do! The two have a couple of swoon-worthy moments that really made me giggle in the middle of the night. Archer, I love you! He's my favorite Rachel Morgan man right next to Ryn.
I also really liked the new characters, Malachi and Callie. I hope we continue seeing them in the next book. I did miss Meera, though, and Shen. I wonder what he's up to...
This was a great book and I am very excited to read what comes next! But I think I enjoyed Elemental Thief a little bit more, which is why my rating is 4 stars.
So good!! I’m impatiently waiting for the third book!! Love this series and anything written by Rachel Morgan. She really knows how to draw you into the book and make you feel that you’re apart of it.
AHHH, I adored this one! The action, Archer and Ridley's relationship progressing, her dad being amazing AND we get to know more about the Shadow Society and the Elementals!
I need for Rachel to NEVER stop writing novels, ever. Each and every one of her novels is a complete binge read for me and as soon as I get to the end it is devastating because it means I have to wait for more.
Ridley is my spirit animal. She is full of life and fights for what she believes in.
Then there is Archer. Me and Archer need to have words. At the end of the day though I adore Archer. I loved what him and Ridley were doing and all hat they went though in this novel, well it has left me on the edge of my seat ready for the next read!
If yo haven't read Rachel's Creepy Hollow series, GO BUY IT, and also dive into this one. If you are like me and loved the Creepy Hollow series then you NEED to dive into this series!
There are others with magic just like hers. Those who are also hunted by the Shadow Society.
Elementals.
With Archer’s help, Ridley sets out to find the other elementals living in Lumina City.
They’ll have to be careful not to draw the attention of the Shadow Society or the law—or Ridley’s dad, who would prefer she stay away from those with illegal magic like hers.
So Ridley does whatever she can to pretend life is back to normal.
Until the night her magic is discovered.
Continue the pulse-pounding journey through a dystopian urban fantasy world!
I enjoyed how this book ended, but it did suffer a bit from middle-book syndrome where it felt like it was just bridging a gap. With all the building that took place, book 3 is definitely gonna be something spectacular!
thank god the author had provided a free audiobook on YouTube because i desperately needed to know the rest of the story. Similar to the last book, with the suspense of wanting to know next, action plus the romance😉i was engrossed and it was so fun to listen to while doing various things.
i love the development of archer's and ridley's relationship and had been excited from the last book to watch their slowburn romance develop. their scenes had me smiling and giggling especially with Archer's obvious flirting at the party scene.i also appreciated when they finally kissed Archer immediately was completely frank and clear with his feelings towards her.no drama, and no games. we need more open and vulnerable male love interests like Archer
I enjoyed all the characters with the addition of the side characters as well. though i think Ridley got a bit too angry at her father in the beginning (after all he was trying to protect her), I liked how she felt more comfortable using her magic.I thought Maverick was a great dad to Ridley, being protective but letting her do her own thing.i also loved how he was supportive and even teased Ridley of her relationship with Archer. too often dads are portrayed as being aggressive and overprotective with the idea of their daughters attaining boyfriends in media😒 so it was a breadth of fresh air i do feel certain things were glossed over like about Krista and Shen but hopefully we get answers and more of the Shadow Society in the next book
Super happy to be back in this world and start to learn more and more about how it works. I liked watching Ridley continue to grow in this one, she seems to finally begin accepting what and who she is which was great to see. I like Archer as a character as well though with so much mystery still around him I really hope we get to see more in the next one.
Great addition of some extra characters and I really hope we get to see more from them but also hear their story.
I like the magic system as well, its interesting and not like anything I have read before, I do still have a lot more questions about it all that I'm ready for answers,
The story did flow quite well but some sections did feel a little disjointed one in particular near the end left me confused for a few pages and their is so many unanswered questions which I feel like slow the story down. I like that we learn everything when Ridley does but just wish it was a little more fast past in some aspects even though the story takes place over such a short time frame which does bother me sometimes.
The sequel to Elemental Thief has done it's job successfully in carrying on the Ridley Kane Chronicles. I enjoyed where the story took the characters as well as the character development that took place. In terms of being the sequel in a trilogy (I think it's a trilogy?) it has that 'bridge' sort of feeling that 'second books' sometimes have in that they serve as the link between the first and the last book in a series, but that is their role so I can't really begrudge it that. The world Rachel Morgan has created continues to be believable and well-developed - it allows you to wander around and know where you are, which, at least to me, is the mark of successful world-building. There was some character development, however, perhaps not quite enough. Also, I felt that the inclusion of Ridley's grandfather (while it makes plot sense) didn't quite hit the mark in that he felt a little one-dimensional - which may have just been because of how his character was included, which was more 'past tense' than 'real-time'. But overall, an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next one! Congrats again, Rachel, on putting out another book!
Wow just wow. I loved it. There are only a few books that don't bore me, make want to dnf/ take a break and keep me hooked. Elemental power is one of them. I feel like this series is soooo underrated and need to be put on the spotlight. What I love about it is that it isn't spicy like typical books. The author knows it isn't necessary for a book to be spicy to be good. Readers can enjoy reading it without having 18+ content.
There were some scenes where I felt quite irritated with Ridley. As MC, I like her though. Archer is sweet and caring and the one who is so misunderstood by others. I kinda don't like Malachi. I don't know why or maybe I know. I have some bad feelings about him. And there is one other character that felt like a burden and too whiney. May be they will have their part to play in the next installment (maybe?) I kinda knew the betrayal will come from that character (can't name who, don't want to spoil it). When they were introduced, they felt a bit off. I already felt there is some bad vibes coming off them. That turned out to be true.
This second installment of the Ridley Kane series was fantastic! I loved getting to read more interactions between her and Archer and having Ridley come more into her own with her magic. There's a few great twists and surprises, some of which, truly are surprises. I liked how the reader gets to know a bit more of Archer--through various people, some of his background, and getting more information on what he did for that year he was away from the city. I love the characters and their interactions with one another more and more as the series continues. I honestly cannot say enough how great a series this is becoming. I'm super stoked for the third book because that one is already looking like it's going to be one helluva read!
I couldn’t wait to get started on book 2 of the Ridley Kayne Chronicles, especially after how good book 1 was and the way that one ended. This book had everything you can want - magic, emotions, a great storyline and a little romance. I absolutely love Archer and Ridley together, especially the start of their blossoming relationship and how well they work together (I was definitely a huge fangirl over them). I can’t wait to find out more about Archer. This is another series by Rachel that I couldn’t put down. You get so involved with these characters that you can’t help by love them in their own way and go along their journey with them. I loved some of the suspense and turns the story had, it made the read that much more interesting. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings us.
Elemental Power is a fabulous follow up to Elemental Thief! Ridley Kayne had quickly become one of my favorite characters I've read this year in the first book. I loved her personality, her stubbornness and need to do what she could to help people. I enjoyed her interactions with Archer and looked forward to seeing where that would end up. Well, Elemental Power doesn't disappoint at all. It's an amazing progression for Ridley's character in so many aspects. With a secret twist in the beginning, the addition of more Elementals, an appearance by the Secret Society and Ember the cat...the story has many exciting and intriguing moments. Lots of actions, lots of fun and a budding romance make Elemental Power a must read. I can't wait to see what happens in book 3!
Book 2 finds Ridley in her senior year of high school. Ridley discovers lost family, and she starts to discover her own magic. She still must hide her magic from the world, but Ridley has decided she is going to try and find other elementals. Ridley and Archer become closer as they hunt down others. One party with the City’s richest, one famous elemental, and everything comes crashing coming down. Ridley and her father are on the run. Will Ridley and her group make it out in time, or will they be caught by the Shadow Society?
I love this series, and I love the fast paced, action of this series. The characters are lovable, and have such an exciting future.
Apart from a short prologue, the book lands right where it left off in book 1. Ridley and her father finally open up to one another, gradually getting all the secrets out in the open, including Ridley's former 'hobby' of thief! With Archer's help, Ridley actually meets other Elementals like her and learns how to use her magic properly. Ridley is just the right combination of mature, brave and also typical teenager, particularly when her Dad is around. I really enjoyed this second book and I'm already waiting for book 3. I'm glad there's no huge cliffhanger like last time but I still hope there won't be too long to wait. I'm also excited to hear there will be audiobooks of the series.
- I was given an eARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you again, Rachel! -
It was really great and fun going back into this world, meeting new as well as old characters and following their story throughout this second book. Basically, I really loved this book! However, I found the first half of it to be a bit slow-paced (which might be blamed on me reading this book for several months already and not reading it in one sitting) but as soon as I crossed the 50% mark I couldn’t put it down anymore and I enjoyed it to the fullest. I’m highly anticipating the next book in this series!
OWHSNWIEHE FIVE STARS DUH. I mean the party scene (which is what got me interested in reading this series) and the hotel scenes are giving 5 stars alone and the rest just adds perfection. I love that we get to see Ridley accepting her magic finally and wanting to do something with it to help others, and I love that the other characters know her well enough to know she’s gonna do what she wants/needs to do so they are there to support her. It’s also been nice seeing archer finally opening up to her and allowing himself to be vulnerable in front of Ridley! Running from the city into the unknown is going to be a little different , but I’m excited to see what happens to these characters next.
Elemental Power is an entertaining book that is the second book in the series of magical adventures set in a dystopian alternate future where magic is banned. I enjoyed the books (so far) overall, but some of the characters actions make me question their intelligence and good sense.
The narrator does a decent job bringing the characters to life. There is something I find a little grating about her narration, but I’m not sure what it is.
This book series is YA with the target audience of teens and young adults. There are some slightly more risqué moments, but nothing beyond a PG13. I am older than the target audience, but I still enjoy the books- for the most part.
I voluntarily review an ARC. This is the second book of the Ridley Kayne Chronicles, the books should be read in order. Another book I couldn't put down. An impeccable writing style, a captivating storyline, a relatable development of the characters and interesting settings make you forget where you are and dive deep within the magical world of Ridley and Archer. I loved the sweet romance and the addition of new characters. Some of the questions of the first book are answered, new mysteries make me wait impatiently for the third part. Highly recommended series.
Really enjoying this new dystopian urban fantasy world that Rachel Morgan has created. A world that had magic but has no been banished, a world where certain characters not only can use magic but they are magic. Each book is action packed and keeps you well entertained in what is happening in the story. In book two secrets are out now and our characters are now on the run by the end of the story your well set up for book three where all is to revealed and magic is no longer gonna be a secret. I am eager to see just how this plays out.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. As always, Rachel Morgan's writing captivated me and brought me into this amazing magical world! The character development and introduction of the new characters was inspired. I love how realistic the romance is with it's speed; none of this falling in love within a chapter that seems to be popular in books these days. I love the banter and the humor of Ridley and Archer! Also, although this is technically YA fantasy, the writing is sophisticated and mature enough to appeal to a greater audience. The pacing is great as well: it was easy to get through the book in a couple of days - the fact that I was captivated and could not put it down made that easy to accomplish! I cannot wait for the next book!
Rachel Morgan never fails to entrance me with her writing, and Elemental Power is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book, from the slow burning romance, to the fast paced plot, and to the building anticipation that *something* was coming. I love her use of realistic and relatable characters, characters that I feel I got to know through the writing. I very highly recommend this novel!
This book was even better than the first one. When I finished a chapter, I wanted to read the next one. I wished we had something more than a slow-burn love since I enjoyed the closeness of the book's two main characters. I am already started to read the next book, and I recommend the book to the people who are enjoying a book with elemental magic in it.
Book two! Loved it. Continuing the story and following the journies of Ridley, Archer, Dad & new characters was fun!
Ridley couldn’t hold on to her secret anymore, if she did, Callie would have died. They were on the run, facing danger left & right. Got captured twice. Got betrayed once. Escaped twice. And finally made it to the Elementals.
Now it seems time for revenge & I’m HERE FOR IT.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I had a difficult time getting into the story and enjoying it, especially the beginning. I enjoy Archer’s character and Mr. Kayne while I hope Ridley continues to grow. She annoyed me most of the time which isn’t conducive to enjoying a story. I will read the final book to see how it ends.
I enjoyed the first book more, but this was a good followup as a plot/world builder which I'm hoping sets up the final installment to be an all out action packed conclusion.
Aside from one part towards the beginning, there's nothing too twisty with this book that leaves you mind blown or anything, but like I said, it does a good job at establishing a solid foundation for the end game. I hope.
I loved all of the action in this book. A lot of new information in this book which I enjoyed - it started off with 2 mind blowing moments 🤯 Archer did frustrate me in this book because he just kept disappearing and showing up again, it felt too convenient 🙈 the ending was beautiful though and I can't wait to see what happens in the last book! 🤩
Fabulous!! The magic was fascinating. The character and relationship development was well thought out and paced perfectly. I loved Ridley’s personal journey, learning to “let go” and become one with the elements. So fun! Another huge win for Rachel Morgan!!
Fantabulous! I loved this continuation! It was thrilling and entertaining. Archer and Ridley are fun to read and their chemistry sexy! I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here and learn more about the elementals and magic!
