Zero 🌶️ (but there is a few chapters of some serious ANGST)
First things first, incredible read. I cannot wait for the second book to this series. I need to know what happens to Titania like right now.
The world building could’ve been a bit more, but I kinda loved that this book jumped right into the story and immersed you right away into the vibes.
Vibes:
🖤Independent, Smart and badass FMC
🖤Loyal, kindhearted and handsome MMC
(Very much black cat, golden retriever vibes)
🖤A unique, different magic system
🖤Haunted forest/Spooky vibes
🖤 Forced proximity
🖤 Betrayal (or is it?)
Definitely hooked me from the beginning and an excellent read.

I have finished reading Dreamcursed written by C. K. Franziska. This is book one of the Veil of Fire series, which is a dark fantasy.

"Only the sun can fight the shadows."

This story is amazing, the concept is just soo great, that I couldn't stop reading. The elements used are clever and not your typical fantasy elements. The story starts right away and the tension keeps building up. There is a great balance between revealing things and keeping the mystery. Im really excited about diving in to book two.

"A little magic, a little madness. The usual recipe for disaster."

The story is about Titania and Balor. Titania lives on her own in the woods and has a dark past. Balor used to live in the palace and has to do anything he can to safe his brothers and sister. The paths of Tatania and Balor cross in the very beginning, the question is if they will make it through.

Knowledge is the greatest weapon. I need nothing else."

This story has an unique, strong and intruiging background story, with all these great themes. Themes like grief, trauma, mental and physical pain, (dis)trust, survival drift, fear, anger, love and so much more. This story is about finding your strength when everything it on the line and keeping hope that everything will be alright in the end.

"As long as I'm moving, I haven't given up. As long as I haven't given up, there's still hope."

In this story they are trying to bring back lost history and knowledge and it really is an amazing read. I enjoyed it very much and give if five stars.

In this book, nightmares aren’t just something in your dreams. Nightmares come to life. This has dark moody vibes and I was loving it.

One of the main things I loved about this book was that every single female character was strong. There was no damsel in distress. They all took care of themselves. They were the ones that the others looked to for answers or with fear. I really really loved that.

The two main leads, Titania and Balor, were great. There is no spice but definitely some tension. The supporting cast was where it’s really at though. Balor’s siblings and Nova (the sassy feline nightmare companion of Titania) brought so much to the story. When they were introduced I felt like the story picked up and I loved how different they all were. Zion is my personal fav. A big scary looking guy who is actually a big softie. I love him.

This was a fun read but there are lots of questions remaining. I can’t wait to get some answers in the second installment! 🖤

Welcome to Heliosia, where nightmares don’t just haunt your sleep—they’ll hunt you in real life! C.K. Franziska crafts a magical thrill ride packed with dream demons, fiery action, and a protagonist you’ll root for until the end. The worldbuilding is top-notch, the stakes are high, and the plot twists are chef’s kiss.

If you love your fantasy dark, dreamy, and utterly addictive, Dreamcursed: Veil of Fire is your next obsession. Dive in, but don’t forget to look over your shoulder—you never know what might step out of the shadows!

3.5⭐️ Welcome to the world of Titania and Balor where nightmares come to life!
There is a whole lot of angst with these two, definitely a slow burn.
Balor is a bastard prince that barely escapes his kingdom after getting into an altercation with his brother. (He has a savior complex)
Titania lives in the woods where she finds an unconscious prince in her garden. She is a strong independent woman.
Shadowfell is upon them and the archivist needs to be found, they also need to save Balors siblings.
I would’ve liked to have more world building to get a better picture. It was almost a bit too slow paced for me, I had a hard time getting through the first half.
I have more questions than I have answers.. maybe we’ll have more in the second book.
If you’re looking for spice this is not the book.
I look forward to the next installments in the series.

I’ve been sitting on this review for a time, because I wanted to truly marinate in what I’ve read and ensure that I was doing the book justice in how I composed my thoughts. I read this book very quickly. To be frank, it took me a few days to realize it was sitting in my inbox waiting to be read, but the moment I saw it, I devoured it completely in a matter of hours.

Dreamcursed tells the story of Balor and Titania, our main characters who end up entwined on their journey to save their kingdom, Heliosia, from Shadowfall, an inevitable event that occurs every so many years when the worlds two astral bodies reach a conjunction, thereby allowing for mythic gates to open and allow nightmares to slip through, all harkening to the eventual reemergence of the Master of Nightmares. Nightmares are treated uniquely, in this case, as they aren’t merely bumps in the night that terrorize the villagers, but rather require a host. There is some commentary on the likelihood of someone becoming a host that has to do with their time of birth, but overall I think the magic system was compelling and fit well into the story.

This novel left a lot of questions that beg to be answered. But, unlike most introductions into a world or series, that didn’t frustrate me. In truth, I feel that the pacing of the story, introduction to characters and concepts and the magic therein was easily digestible and left a satisfied feeling alongside the desire to know more, to quench the undying need to find out what happens next.

Titania, our female main character, is wholly compelling in her own right and we don’t fully comprehend whats going on with her just yet, or what her greater role in the story is. To that end, I don’t entirely trust her, though she’s been nothing but accommodating and caring towards our male character, Balor, and also serves as our conduit into the world proper as we learn that the present history of Heliosia, and everything Balor has been taught from birth, is a lie masquerading the truth of what’s coming.

The syntax was well woven, the diction carefully chosen and overall compiled into a thought-provoking and enrapturing story that invites the reader into an endarkened world, and begs the question of who can you trust?

I’m rating this 3.5 out of five moons, rounded up to four, not because the book wasn’t great, but rather for the space it’s left for the continuance of the story. And I look forward to seeing where it goes.

And I'd like to thank C.K. Franziska and her ARC team for the opportunity to read this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book had me engaged immediately, Dream cursed is a high fantasy with gothic vibes I did not want to stop reading.
I can honestly say that this book was like nothing else I've read before, the magic system was unique, the world building and character development was outstanding.
This is a slow burn but omg the tention this book gives u is just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat but keeps you wanting more with only a few heated moments.
I thought I'd struggle to follow who was who but the world building flows so naturally I found myself completely immersed.

This is the first book in veil of fire series and I absolutely loved it, that cliffhanger😯
I need book 2 now lol
This book will be available on the 14th of January and I highly recommend picking this up immediately.

I received Dreamcursed as an ARC, and I admit it took me longer than I would have liked to read it. I randomly hit a reading slump and I wish I would have just pushed through to read this faster. While there’s a lot of missing information throughout the story, I’m really hoping book 2 will enlighten more. While Titania and Balor are the main characters, I really liked Zion and I guess Milow too lol I was confused a bit as to why Lucia was the way she was though? Maybe will get more later? There’s so much to this story that I’m willing to overlook the plot holes or missing info, it still left me wanting more. Whether it’s more of the information that was missing or because of what it could be idk. I haven’t read from this author before but have wanted to for a while. Either way, I still enjoyed this, the concept of Nightmares & Shadowfall sounds ridiculously cool and I want more!

I really enjoyed this book so much. It has the capability to draw you in from the start. I read this book in 12hrs 😁 The mystery with who and what Titania is and can really do really makes your mind work throughout the book. What is her purpose against the Master of Nightmares, why are they connected? And how can we forget; who is the Master of Nightmares host???? I find the connection to Balor intruiging and I do hope he survives the heirwar and that they can explore more in the story as it develops.
I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next installment!
My gratitude to the author for being chosen as an ARC reader. It means alot to have such an opportunity to read before published 🥰

I wanted to like this book so badly. The story and aesthetic were so promising and the visuals kept me going for quite awhile despite the glaring issues I had with the book.

First of all I would like to touch on the whiplash flippancy of the characters motivation and sense of self. Within the same page Balor says "I haven't felt this rested since I was born" and then "here I am waking up disoriented and groggy". Within PARAGRAPHS of each other he says "my injury still throbbed painfully under my bandages" and then "the deep gash in my abdomen had stopped hurting". Its not just Balor, but Titania aswell. She is going to leave him for dead then suddenly decides to start healing and then states that she should just kill him. She doesn't trust him and then spills something personal. She's going to continue into the city without him then they're running back through the forest together. It was so frustrating.

Secondly I feel lied to by the authors content warning - "I decided against insta love and went for slow burn". There is absolutely insta love. The first thing our main characters do when they see each other is describe how attractive they are. Then by page 50 Balor is getting horny watching her shower and self describes himself and predatory and perverted. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good romance, but be honest please. If that's not insta love idk what is. Just because they don't have penetrative sex doesn't mean there is "no spice".

Thirdly there were at least two obvious editorial errors. A POV slip up and grammatical issue. I am terrible with writing and the English language, so for me to notice these things in only 100 pages means there are bound to be more.

I noticed the author averages writing a book about every 3.6 months and I am begging for the love of whatever powers you believe in to slow down. I am so mad because the story was lining up to be so good but the execution felt sloppy.

Book 1 in the Veil of Fire Duology
By: @c.k.franziska

Overall: 3.5/5
Overall plot: 3.5/5
Character development: 3.5/5
Pace: 3.5/5
World building: 3.5/5
Spice 🌶️: 0/5

Thank you C.K.for letting me read this book ahead of the release date!

This is book one in a duology with a world where nightmares are given physical manifestation. Titania (FMC) is fairly mysterious throughout the entire book and Balor (MMC) is a bastard prince that barely escapes his kingdom after unintentionally bringing about rebellion against the King and getting struck down by his brother, the rightful heir to said kingdom.

The physical manifestation of the nightmares were somehow erased from the kingdom’s memories and unbeknown to everyone, the gates between Shadowfell where these nightmare creatures come from are weakening and Titania and Balor, along with Balor’s siblings, team together to save their other siblings, find the archivist, as well as attempt to prevent the Master of Nightmares from demolishing the kingdom along with everyone in it.

This is a pretty unique world in terms of world-building but I would’ve liked more descriptions to find better parallels of this world so I could’ve better imagined it the way C.K. imagined it. Some scenes jump so it leaves room for questions that the reader has to come to conclusions about.

The book concludes with a cliffhanger that raises more questions than answers which leaves readers chomping at the bits for answers in the next installment. I gotta say, I absolutely love Nova’s (nightmare feline) sas and personality.

Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read a high fantasy book with twists and intrigue and a unique world-building. 🖤

I will be completely honest it took me a while to get into this ARC there is room for improvement which I hope to see in the final print and in the next book in the series. I would give it 3.5 starts if I could.
This story of Titania and Balor and the kingdom of Heliosia is full of mystery. I say this because I feel like there is A LOT of information we are still missing from our FMC Titania that is intentional which I personally love! She is an independent, woman well versed in Herbal Remedies and the patience of a saint for dealing with Balor!
Balor, bless him, has great intentions, but seems to fall short. His love for his family and kingdom drive him to fight for their freedom from cruelty and later on with the help of Titania save them from the Nightmares that plague their home that he was ignorant to until stumbling upon the home of our FMC.
There is also a ✨saucy✨ feline friend that every girl needs, but I won’t say too much about her.

Throughout this story you will find betrayal, ZERO SMUT, just a wee bit of tension and a friendship that starts to grow to more. If you are looking for something fit for a smutty trash panda this is not for you, but the story itself will grow on you.

I do not recommend this for people who want DEEP lore. The world building is there, but it did not draw me In in the beginning like I would have liked. At the halfway point is when I really got into it! You will fall in love with the characters,
and it’s sooo refreshing to have a MMC who isn’t super macho man who saves the day.
There is a cliff hanger 😩 I will be eagerly awaiting the next book bc now I am invested.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 ARC Review

Dreamcursed, the first book in the Veil of Fire. It’s a fast-paced fantasy novel that captivates readers with its imaginative world-building and intriguing magic system. The story plunges into a kingdom teetering on the edge of darkness, where Nightmares and corruption threaten to consume everything.

The pace of the book is brisk, covering a lot of ground in a relatively short span. While this keeps the story exciting and easy to read, it occasionally leaves gaps that might have some readers questioning certain scenes or motivations. However, the strength of the book lies in its concept: a dark and atmospheric world filled with danger, magic, and mystery. The sensory language is particularly striking, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the eerie and vivid landscape.

One of the highlights of Dreamcursed is its dual POV structure, alternating between Titania and Balor. This narrative style offers insight into both characters’ perspectives. Titania, the mysterious female protagonist, and Balor, the determined male lead, are compelling and layered.

The supporting cast is equally memorable, with a range of diverse and well-defined personalities. Nova, a sassy and witty Nightmare, stands out as a favourite.

The book concludes with a cliffhanger that raises many questions, leaving readers eager for the next installment. Ending on Titania’s perspective, it hints at unresolved threads concerning Balor, his siblings, and the fate of the kingdom. This open-ended conclusion sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling continuation of the series.

Nightmares, betrayal, and hidden loyalties collide in this gripping dark fantasy tale.

In the kingdom of Heliosia, nightmares are nothing more than whispered stories—until they manifest as terrifying, deadly realities. When a rebellion against the crown ends in betrayal, Balor narrowly escapes his ruthless brother Dade’s wrath, only to be gravely injured and left for dead. Stumbling into the forbidden woods, he expects to fade into oblivion. Instead, he awakens to the gaze of Titania, a mysterious woman whose secrets are as shadowed as the forest she resides in.

As Balor heals, Titania unravels the dark history of Heliosia, revealing that nightmares are real and the return of the dreaded Master of Nightmares, Shadowfall, threatens the entire kingdom. But with every truth she shares, Balor’s understanding of his world—and his family—is shattered. His quest to save his siblings from their tyrannical family takes a dangerous turn, as the line between friend and foe blurs.

Haunted by doubts and pursued by relentless Nightmares, Balor must confront a terrible choice: can he trust Titania, or is she leading him into a nightmare far worse than he could have imagined?

This novel weaves together high-stakes adventure, dark intrigue, and complex characters, making for an unforgettable journey through a world on the brink of collapse. The tension between loyalty and betrayal, the eerie presence of the Nightmares, and the shifting trust between Balor and Titania create a powerful narrative that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

✨ 5/5 Stars – I AM CURSED. NOT ENCHANTED. CURSED. ✨

C.K. Franziska, what have you done to me?!? I don’t even know where to start because my brain is short-circuiting from how perfectly executed this book is. The way Dreamcursed blurs the lines between imagination and reality??? I swear, at some point, I forgot which world I belonged to. This book didn’t just pull me in—it consumed me, chewed me up, and spat me out emotionally wrecked.

The concepts in this book? PHENOMENAL. Every twist? UNHINGED. Every moment? A MASTERPIECE. I felt this book in my soul. And the ending??? I was literally holding my hand up so I wouldn’t accidentally spoil myself, AND THEN BOOM—THE ENDING HAPPENED. I AM EXPLODING. I NEED A MOMENT. (Or several.)

Now, let’s talk about the characters. Titania and Balor? Obsessed. I love them so much I might actually combust. Dade? I want to punch him. That’s it. That’s the review. But also, I am emotionally devastated and I don’t know how to function anymore.

💌 A special note to C.K. Franziska:
HOW. DARE. YOU. But also, thank you. Thank you for this absolute masterpiece that has ruined me in the best way possible. I don’t know how I’ll recover, but I do know one thing—I love you (and also slightly fear you) for writing this book.

If you haven’t read Dreamcursed yet, go in prepared. This book is a reality-shattering experience, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 😭🔥

I'd like to first and foremost thank C.K. Franziska for this amazing ARC opportunity! In the world of Dreamcursed, we are immediately thrown into the chaos while being introduced to our golden retriever hero named Balor and the world he resides in. He is one of the princes of Heliosia and it will be up to him and our strong, independent FMC, Titania to stop the impending Shadowfall.

This novel took a little bit to find it's pacing in the beginning, but once it did...HOLY MOLY! I loved Balor and his brothers (look I know we're all supposed to hate Dade but...erm...I have a soft spot for villains okay?) and Titania is a great counter balance to the crew, especially with her shadowy friend. Seriously, where can one acquire a Nova? I found the he falls first perspective super refreshing, especially to be able to read from Balor's POV and Titania's to gain insight into how each perceive what is happening which was done really well and fluidly!

If you love dark fantasy worlds filled not only with the political turmoil of a corrupt kingdom but also the threat of a end of the world size event looming overhead this book is 10000000% for you! I will stay that it leaves off on one hell of a cliffhanger and I am already biting my nails in anticipation for the second book in the Veil of Fire series!

If soulmates, Dual POV, Slow-burn, He-falls-first, and the infamous "Who did this to you" are your kind of thing, then Dreamcursed may be the perfect book for you!

In the kingdom of Heliosia, nightmares are believed to be mere myths—until they begin to haunt the waking world. After narrowly escaping the betrayal of his ruthless brother, Balor stumbles into the forbidden woods, where he meets Titania, a mysterious and alluring woman with secrets as dark as the forest itself. As their dangerous journey unfolds, Balor must navigate his growing feelings for Titania while grappling with the haunting truth that she may not be the ally he hopes—her heart and loyalty shrouded in a mystery as chilling as the nightmares that threaten to consume them both.

I devoured this book in 2 days! There was zero smut which was honestly a nice change for me. I adored Nova's character and want her in my life. The cliffhanger was BRUTAL and I messaged the author the moment I finished it demanding to know when I would get the second book. I wouldn't mind some more lore in the second book if possible because I love to learn about that type of thing in the books I read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and found it to be the perfect way to end 2024. Thank you for the ARC and I can't wait for book 2!

A prince named Balor whom has rebelled against part of his royal family in the Kingdom of Heliosia escapes into a dark forest stumbling upon a healer named Titania. As the two embark in a journey to save Balor’s brothers and sister, Balor also agrees to help Titania find Heliosia’s Archivist. As the two embark in their journey the story about the original Kingdom had how it fell into ruins and the truth about Nightmares starts to unravel. Everything Balor believed to be stories growing up as a child turn out to be real and the history of his royal family and their kingdom is a mere mystery that he was never aware of. This story is what I would call a foundational book with world and character building as it weaves the narrative to set the book in perfect motion for the rest of the series. If there is one thing I am sure all readers will agree with is that you are left questioning everything you have read and if you are like me, you will be looking forward to next book in this series! Is there found family? Is the attraction and angst between the main characters forced proximity? Is there betrayal? Who has lied? Was Balor and Titana’s encounter in the dark forest really a chance meeting? I have so many questions and as for book 2, I AM SO HERE FOR IT!

This story started off slower however it beautifully eased you into the FMC and MMC, along with the world itself which was not too heavily world builded which I enjoyed.

It was refreshing having a more mellow storyline up until about half way in the book in my opinion as you really got to feel the FMC and MMC connect and get to know themselves and how us as readers can connect with them. I enjoyed the tension from both of them and you could feel their emotions even without physical spice written down.

The whole nightmare concept with different creatures was a really refreshing twist on fantasy and it was nice to have different creatures other than your usual dragons, wyverns, vampires etc and got a whole new bundle of creatures. I am looking forward to learn more about them in book 2.

I cannot believe how the book ended without knowing what sort of relationship she had with ‘The master of nightmares’ but also wish maybe there was maybe a final chapter from Balor regarding the start of the Heirwar to make it a double whammy cliff hanger on both dual POV perspectives.

I am looking forward to book 2 (I know we’ve only just had bill 1) just so I can figure out who this ‘Master of nightmares’ is and how they are linked and how old even is the FMC!

The horrifying adventures with Titania and Balor. What's real and what's not?

⭐⭐⭐.5!

I enjoyed this read. I found it to be kind of slow but nothing that made me want to quit reading it. I gave it 3 1/2 stars because it's nothing I absolutely LOVED but I did enjoy it.

The plot is very interesting and I look forward to see where this ends up in the future. I genuinely can't even think of ways it might end up going. I don't even have theories.

I loved most of the characters and hated the ones that should be hated. Balor is a stubborn man but with a caring heart, he makes you woo over him.

I don't find that there was a ton of character growth just yet. We're truly still learning about most of them, even at the end we don't know the full story that needs to be known.

World building is a bit meh. You get minor details on most of the stuff but the world building is there, just a bit slow. Again, this is totally okay considering it is a series.

Spice level: I'm gonna say 0 chili peppers. It wasn't spicy at all but that's completely okay with me, I'm living for the fantasy.

I look forward to the next installment to this series!

Let’s start with the gorgeous tarot vibes cover of this book. It draws the readers in and instantly made me want to start reading what was inside. We also have a full color map. YES you read that right, A FULL COLOR MAP!!!

Many times I have found my self imagining what these places on maps look like in color and I was not disappointed when I was giving my biggest wish for a map in a book.

Next up, the dedication. It gives me life! I think I’ve probably read it like a billion times haha. We also receive a character guide, I personally wish there was a pronunciation guide included, but you can easily figure out the names of the characters and places.

I instantly fell in love with Nova and I need her in my life. I also love the sense of magical abilities without being a “witch or wizard”.

My fatal flaw during this whole read is me wanting a dreadmare as a pet. Where can I get one?!

Overall this is a really good book. I took my time with it so I could really enjoy the story and immerse myself in it. I can’t wait to see when the rest of the story goes and I recommend reading this yourself because book 1 definitely leaves you wanting to dive into book 2.

“It's said that some souls are meant to find each other no matter what lifetime. While most think it's romantic, I beg to differ. The soul destined to find me is the darkest of them all.
I don't know if I'll ever find a way to survive him.”

4 ⭐️

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was a gothic, atmospheric book that gave me One Dark Window & Belladonna vibes. My only complaint was it seemed a little too long. Plus, now I have to wait for the next one!!!

I received this arc with the promise of an honest review!

Dreamcursed is a high fantasy with romance. I am not sure how many there will be in this series. It follows Balor and Titania as they race to defeat the Nightmares and stop the Master of Nightmares from coming through the portal to choose a new host to destroy the kingdom of Heliosia.

Balor is a big teddy bear who wears his heart on his sleeve, and Titania is only used to caring for herself and... her nightmare companion, Nova.

The real review is a 4.5-star review. I really enjoy this fantasy. This was actually my first high fantasy novel with romance. It was really slow in the beginning but picked up pretty quickly. I do think that Titania could have let Balor in a little bit more to understand, but I also get it.

Balor must start standing up more for himself and staying true to himself. No more self-doubt!!

This does end on a cliffhanger, which I am not a fan of, but I want more and will continue with this series.

All in all, it was a great story and an interesting plot. I am excited to see where this goes. Thank you to the author for the opportunity!!

This book is truly one of a kind! Instead of the usual clueless heroine trope, we get a male lead with strong family values—and it was so refreshing. The dual POV adds so much depth, and the slow burn? Torturous in the best way possible. I was screaming for them to just kiss already!

I was initially worried about keeping track of the names and the world-building, but the story makes it feel natural. You learn everything as the characters do, and it keeps you rooting for them through every moment.

And the FMC? She’s brilliant. Not only does she fit seamlessly into the story, but she also builds the world around her. Her secrets, her role, and everything yet to be revealed are just as captivating as the romance. I’m dying to know more.

And that ending? I’m shattered. How am I supposed to wait for the next book? Seriously, where is the support group for this?

If you’re a fan of slow-burn, closed-door romance, this one will be perfect for you. There’s just enough romantic tension to keep you on edge, but it stays modest with only a few heated moments.

Highly recommend! I’ll be counting down the days until book two.

This book is an absolute standout for fans of dark fantasy and complex characters. Nightmares are coming to life. This book weaves a gripping tale of betrayal, forbidden secrets, and impossible choices. Balor is a deeply compelling hero, battling betrayal and his own doubts as he fights to save his siblings, kingdom—and himself. His growing feelings for Titania, the woman who saves him, bring all the delicious tension of the he falls first trope, perfectly paired with a slowburn romance that keeps you hooked.

The nightmarish creatures are chilling and vividly imagined, adding an eerie atmosphere as Balor and Titania journey deeper into a kingdom steeped in shadows. Titania’s secrets keep you guessing, while the looming threat of Shadowfall raises the stakes with every chapter.

Packed with betrayal, longing, and plenty of twists, this story will keep you glued to the page. It’s an unforgettable blend of suspense, dark magic, and slowburn tension that I couldn’t put down. Highly recommend!

“Dreamcursed” by C.K. Franziska is an engaging fantasy novel that captivates readers from the outset. Set in the kingdom of Heliosia, where nightmares are dismissed as mere fables until they manifest into reality, the story follows Emilia’s dark journey as she unravels the secrets behind these living nightmares.

Franziska’s storytelling is immersive, with a richly detailed world and complex characters that draw readers in. The narrative is well-paced, balancing suspense and intrigue, making it difficult to put the book down. The author’s descriptive prose vividly brings Heliosia to life, enhancing the reading experience.

While the plot is compelling, some readers might find certain aspects predictable. However, the strong character development and imaginative world-building more than compensate for this minor shortcoming.

Overall, “Dreamcursed” is a delightful read for fantasy enthusiasts, offering a blend of mystery, adventure, and a touch of romance. It’s an excellent start to the “Veil of Fire” series, leaving readers eager for the next installment.

I was immediately taken with this book. From the moment I read the synopsis and the tropes I knew I was going to love it. This is a fantasy book that I would recommend to anyone looking to get into fantasy. The world building is not difficult to comprehend and yet it still paints a fantastic picture for readers.
I rated this a 3 star because I had a good time reading this story and do plan to pick up any forthcoming books in the series (Please C.K. I need answers lol). However, this book did not change my brain chemistry like some other fantasy books that I have read but that is okay because not every book needs to do that.
I am a very harsh rater and don’t rate above 3 stars unless a book was world shattering (very very few books that I read)
All in all, this was a quick and easy dark fantasy read that I would definitely recommend. I can’t wait to pick up a physical copy when this book comes out and am excited for any books coming in the series.

4⭐️ 0/5🌶️

Okay I have sat with this book for a long while and read it through twice to make sure I had all the information I needed to write a review. So let’s get into it…

Over all the book is good. The FMC and the MMC are trying to save their world and they are helping each other him to save those important to him and her to help everyone (in a way). The story follows them on this quest and the craziness that is happening to their world. The FMC has a “pet” nova and they are a very complimentary team. While this book is over all good, it is definitely a slow burn. In my opinion it slow all around for the first half of the book but it’s nothing that I didn’t enjoy reading. But honestly that’s just my opinion I’m usually read a more fast paced book so that definitely factors in!. There’s also a cliffhanger so you’re left with some unanswered questions but it’s definitely a great set up for a second book.

That all being said it is still a great book and I would recommend it! I am also excited for book two! I am aware that book one (this book) was just dropped but I’m eager to find out the answers to my questions the biggest one being who is the Master of nightmares!!

From page one, Dreamcursed (The Veil of Fire: Book One) is off to the races. We meet Balor, who kicks this story into gear. It’s set in the kingdom of Heliosia, a place where reality and nightmares bleed together. Franziska’s world-building is amazing. It’s a perfect mix of suspense and unease that kept me saying ‘just one more page’ late into the night.

Titania is the FMC, and some of her choices are definitely…wait for it…morally grey(we love that here). Franziska has put together a strong, compelling character in Titania, and she’s not the only one. The book is packed with powerful women, a few of them, including Titania, are not what they seem.

Franziska has a knack for creating tension, using the Nightmares as both the main threat and a metaphor for dealing with one’s inner demons. While the magic system isn’t completely original, it’s implemented in such a unique way!

The novel’s strengths are in its fresh take on dark fantasy tropes, immersive world-building, and complex character dynamics. It also builds a sense of rising stakes that kept me hooked throughout.

I can’t wait to dive into Shadowfall (The Veil of Fire: Book Two) because I have so many questions about what really happened in the last few pages of this book.
