From the day he was orphaned until he ended up in the silver mines at White Pine, Nevada, Blaze Mowbray has only known the merciless frontier.
Thanks to the protection of his adoptive mother, lawlessness and degeneracy have always been just out of reach.
Now Blaze has no choice – at sixteen, he’s leapt into the fire of an outlaw’s world.
When the silver is gone, money becomes scarce and company big shots like William Montgomery hire outlaws like Jed Scanlon to maintain the bloodstained bones of his business empire and recoup his mounting debts.
Jed Scanlon. He’s insane, and he’s tempting Blaze to turn away from good.
When the last wagons leave the fallen mining district, Montgomery's thugs are riding close behind, lured by a rumor of hidden gold.
Blaze has seen enough. The time has come to draw his Colt and protect the family that gave him his life.
Waiting for him at the end of the desolate trail is Sofia – Blaze’s one true love. His heroic determination can save their future, but all the love Blaze has ever known can just as easily be snuffed out by one of Jed’s .45s.
Can Blaze outshoot the last stand of the millionaire’s marauders? Or will he be doomed to haunt the ghost towns his love has left behind?
Another classic western with respectful romance and women as strong frontier folk from author William Black.

Blaze was a found boy that had a trail of wrongs set right. Raised by Hallie the seamstress.
Hallies first sight of the boy named by her was as her husband brought him to the wagon train. He had been left the only one left alive when his train had been attacked. She named him Blaze and tried to raise him by herself when her husband was killed by those same indians. She raised him to know right from wrong and prayed when it looked like he might be side tracted by an old acquaintance from their past. Blaze was very young but had to go through the baptism of fire to prove his worth. Really great story and made you feel like you were right in the heat of it all.
Lots of twists and turns. The story jumps around some. It goes back and forth between the characters. It keeps you interested as to what going to happen next. It's a great story.
A look a the early West with accuracy and a little too much of good luck. But a happy ending is always worth the read. Not your usual plot and interesting characters delivers an worthwhile afternoon of escape.
Mr. Black, I’ve enjoyed nearly every western of yours I’ve read. This one though was special, made me feel better after and during my reading. Thank you. LK
