Crispinus Delacort is an immortal rogue enforcer and a homicide detective. But in his quiet city, he's more likely to be rounding up truant teens than investigating murders. So, when he learns that human bones have been found in the garden of a sprawling rural home, it's unexpected to say the least.
Abril Newman can't believe her bad luck when she discovers a body buried on the grounds of her boss's home, while chasing after Gina's mischievous lab Lilith. She was just supposed to be house-sitting for a few days! And then Detective Delacort arrives. She knows she shouldn't be thinking about love when there's a crime scene outside the door. But ignoring her attraction to gorgeous Crispin is easier said than done.
When Crispin realizes that a rogue is involved, he knows this won't be a simple investigation. Especially because he's so distracted by Abril's presence that all he wants is to kiss her senseless in every room of the manor. But he can woo her, solve the case, and stop a dangerous rogue by morning . . . right? All in a day's work.

I wish that I had loved this one way more than I actually did. This can happen with some of the books in the series....at the end of the day this one just fell a bit flat for me. I am curious if I had done this in audio, it may have worked better for me. I felt like some of the pacing in this story was slow at times. But my issue with this story is that the romance felt lacking. I just didn't feel their connection after their initial meeting. I found the plot very promising though, the mystery involving the dead bodies being found was intriguing, including some rogue vampires and then the combination of Lucien arriving with some of the other immortals was interesting and added a good level of humor. I didn't feel much of the chemistry within this story though. It could have been a "me" issue though, I just wish the story had been more rewarding as I was hoping for as I have been a long time fan of the series.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙💜❤️💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍 Character development: ☹️🥲😋😘🥰
The heroine:Abril Newman - she is an executive assistant and does a lot of extra work for her wealthy boss, like watering her plants, picking up groceries, housesitting and taking care of the dog while her boss is on extravagant vacations. Though she is determined to start only working during business hours after he boss returns from her latest trip. Abril has been staying at the remote mansion while renovations are finishing up and taking care of the dog, Lilith. When the dog digs up a skull in a part of the yard that is being excavated for an addition, Abril immediately calls the police.
The Hero:Crispinus Delacort (a.k.a. Crispin) - he is a homicide detective with the London, Ontario police and an immortal. The town is pretty sedate and doesn’t get a lot of murders, so they work more than just homicide cases. Though he and his partner Roberts, also an immortal, are pretty excited when they get called to the scene of a possible murder. Roberts was only 373, young in comparison to Crispin who had been alive for approximately 3000 years.
The story: The detectives determine that not only did the dog uncover a skull and body, but had also started digging up two right hands, meaning there were most probably at least three separate bodies in the former garden. While spending time, interviewing Abril, it isn’t long before Crispin figures out that she is possibly his life mate, especially after finding out that Roberts can read her mind and he can’t. Plus, the fact that he wants her, and he hasn’t wanted to have sex for a very long time.
I love this series, and it seems like it has been a long time since the last book. I just love the vampire immortal backstory, how they were originally from Atlantis, how they are immortal due to the nanos in their blood which were a technological innovation of a society that was far more advanced than any other in the world. The nanos were programmed for healing illness and injury and were designed to be flushed out of the system when they were done, but since a human body is always in a state of slow degradation, they just never finished their work and keep the person in top physical form for basically ever. It just makes sense, and I always love the big reveal to the non-immortal life mate. I could continue reading books in this series for years and not get bored.
Not to mention that there is always an exiting side story that adds mystery and suspense to a terrific romance and there is always plenty of steamy intimate scenes. This one had a very interesting storyline about the bodies found on the property and I couldn’t put it down throughout. The characters were all terrific, including all the members of the Argeneau family, Lucien was especially funny. I pretty much liked everything about this book, and I hope that Lynsay Sands keeps adding to this series.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
I've been reading Lynsay Sands' Argeneau books for so long they feel like family but for a newcomer the author briefly explains the world and each book can be a standalone. Crispin and Abril have amazing chemistry and. try to resist temptation as they solve a crime but nothing can stop fated mates from each other. Hilarity ensues as these two navigate their burgeoning relationship but fortunately they've got a top notch immortal team for back up. A fun, exciting and suspenseful read!
Story 4 stars. Narration 4 stars I always know what I’m going to get with any book in this series. A good romance, humor and mostly dire situations the main couple has to go through. Besides dire situations, there’s usually more than a bit of spicy times. What makes this different from erotic books are that these times are a much shorter part of the actual story and don’t take over the book. Ultimately, these books concern immortals similar to vampires minus the undead part, as they are alive and are born to immortal parents unless turned as adults. There’s quite the world building concerning Atlantis and its fall and the people that escaped the fall. That just barely touches their story.
As usual, a new couple meets and the immortal male, in this case, realizes that she is his life mate-something that some immortals never find. Just more of the world building. There’s a Labrador retriever that’s being housesat by a woman who’s the assistant to the owner of this house where this book takes place. When the dog finds a bone, the male is called to the scene and yes, he’s a police detective. I’m going to stop here other than to say that I enjoyed the characters and the plot of this one quite a bit. A lot of the previous characters from earlier books show up and I always enjoy that as well. I’ve not read these in order and it’s really not a problem although it would be easier if you start at the beginning but really not necessary. I’ve been slowly going back and reading them and I almost always enjoy myself. I recommend these to adults that read paranormal romance.
Another solid read in this series. I suspect fans like myself will enjoy the familiarity of the world, the cameos from favorite characters, and the well-worn but slightly differently presented explanation of nanos and immortals and Atlantis. Newbies might find it a bit more interesting—it’s certainly an enjoyable mystery of vampirism gone wrong and the horrors of house-sitting for a demanding boss.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely, if you don’t mind setting aside reality for a solid few hours of sexy fun with a 3000 year old man. Which I did—and would do again. Because it may not win prizes but it kinda won my heart.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” sorry I will absolutely be judging books by their covers from now on. I cannot believe this was in the thriller section. I thought I’d give this murderomance (romurder mystery?) a shot but there was zero mystery solving. Barely even a plot. How is this so highly rated?!
A fun, exciting and suspenseful read! Steamy, well-written, and engaging. I read this book straight thru without stopping. I liked that multiple past characters showed up to help our main characters out. I like that we get peeks into past characters lives. I have read all previous books in this series. I have read almost everything that Lynsay Sands has written. She is one of my all-time favorite paranormal authors and I just love her books across subgenres. The characters were likeable, frustrating at times, and relatable in their own ways. Ms. Sands is a master at world building for being able to have created such a large universe of people and yet be able to keep people, settings, and information intact. I love that she has created multiple family trees on her site to help you to know how everyone is connected to each other.
I always love how the reveal to the non-immortal life mate is dealt with. It gives a chance for people who haven't read other stories in this series to find out how Ms. Sands has brought about her own twist to the "Vampire" lore. I love that their wasn't much of any relationship drama. Their didn't agonize over their feelings for each other with manufactured conflict.
Can't wait to read the next entry in this fascinating series by the Lynsay Sands. This book is an example of Lynsay Sands doing what she does best, blending humor, romance, and a little murder mystery into a compelling story.
I received an advanced review copy of this title via NetGalley.
I used to read this series but lost track of it a few years ago. I think I left off around book 20 and this is book 37. That being said, you could probably read this as a stand alone. I know I will go back and restart the series to catch back up, they are all quick fun reads of different character stories but have an overall continuous storyline.

The beginning of the book was captivating, so I was excited to dive into this story. But as my first read in the series, I didn’t connect with the world. I also didn’t feel much of a romantic spark between Crispin and Abril. Given they were Life Mates, I expected their relationship to be deeper than just intense passion. I enjoy Lynsay’s historical romances, but this one just wasn’t for me.
It seems surreal to be thirty-seven books deep into a series and still finding new things to love, but Lynsay Sands does just that with the latest Argeneau vampire romance, Immortal by Morning.
We’ve seen Crispin in previous books in this series, and I was glad to see him finally take center stage with his own romance. Like many of the older immortals, Crispin is growing bored with his everyday routine; it doesn’t help that there’s little to no real detective work for this detective to do. But all that changes when Crispin gets a call about skeletons in a yard, and meets his life mate on the scene.
I actually really loved that so much of the conflict in Abril and Crispin’s courtship comes from outside their romance. There’s no real denial of their feelings for each other, like we’ve seen from many previous mortal life mates, and it was nice to see them both acknowledge and explore the possibility of love outside of the conflict happening around them. Abril also took all the new information about immortals really well, and after being this far into the series, it was great to sort of cut out all the unnecessary and drawn-out disbelief and just let the mortal character accept the new normal.
Given that Crispen has been alive for millennia, he of course knows all our favorite immortals from previous books. I loved getting to see Lucian out doing field work again, rather than in his home environment, and Bricker always brings some fun with him. I also loved getting that throwback mention of Basil and his many children, which we learned all about back in The Immortal Who Loved Me. For a while, the Argeneau books all seemed very self-contained within their own plots, but having all these tie-ins to previous books - events, relationships, locations - only adds to the series as a whole.
Immortal by Morning was another solid addition to the Argeneau lore. Readers get yet another unique introduction to a new life mate without over-explaining the immortal backstory that is present throughout the thirty-six previous books. I loved watching Crispin finally find love after millennia, and Abril had a well-developed story arc that was perfect for this story.
I received an advanced review copy of this title via NetGalley, and my review is based on the pre-published text. All opinions are my own.
Received a free arc from NetGalley and for that I am super grateful. I’m happy to be able to read the newest book in my favorite series. All opinions are my own and freely given.
Let me start by saying I’ve been a huge fan of this series since I was in high school and the first book came out and I stumbled upon it at a dollar store when dollar general sold books on the little spiny racks. This is my absolute favorite series and I have loved every single book since book 1. I have favorites of course but over all I’ve loved them all.
This one tho? Not so much. It was very slow to the point I almost didn’t even want to finish reading it. It took almost half of the book to start getting anywhere because they were digging bones out of the yard and acting weird and awkward. I was just pretty disappointed with this book. Once it got past all that things sped up quickly and it was a good read but took me a while to get to that point.
What the heck happened? Sands ALWAYS delivers on argeneau books. Sure some can be batter than others but… what happened with this? The whole book was zero character development and all literary excuses to kick the bucket of the book forward (oohhhh… we need to walk to dog for the 10th time in the book - the most boring plot point ever). I love this series and I really hope whatever funk the author got into, she can work out of.
No. The writing was terrible. I read this book because I received a free audio listening copy as part of Libro.fm's librarian program. It sounded like a fascinating fantasy with some romance thrown in. Nope. It was like reading a 12-year-old's version of dialogue.
I'm a little bit hesitant on how to review this book or a couple of reasons - 1) I've mentioned before in previous reviews that I have this really weird quirk where it really bothers me to read a book out of order. If I find, say the 4th book in a series, I usually go back, find book 1 and start from there (weird, I know) 2)Now that I've mentioned #1, I had no idea when receiving this ARC from NetGalley that this was the 37th book in the series. Yes, you read that right.....37 th book.
Realistically, this is not really a bad thing. I just worry that there is so much of the world in this series that has been carefully built, characters that have been introduced, fleshed out, grown and matured...etc. But most of all, I'm not really sure about what this world entails so I AM sorry that I am not getting the full picture that the author portrayed.
With all of that being said, I actually enjoyed the book. There was no problem reading this as a stand alone. Yes, I'm sure there were many things that went over my head because I didn't understand every subtext or jokes in certain parts. And it was obvious that several of the male characters in this book, specifically Lucian, have developed character traits and all of them have developed extremely strong relationships. The feeling of "found family" is strong even in just this book.
So, here we go. In this book we are introduced to FMC Abril Newman who is an Executive Assistant for her boss Gina. I'm not really sure what Gina does but she is very successful and travels a lot. Abril is house sitting for Gina, watering her plants, taking care of and walking her dog while she is out of town. Abril is also supervising the renovations going on at Gina's house while Gina is away.
It just so happens that in the course of the yard being dug up, Abril and Gina's Labrador discover some human skeletons that have been buried in this hole. She calls the police and they send out 2 detectives from the nearby town. Both of these Detectives are Immortals (think Vampires, but apparently they do NOT appreciate this description).
We then meet MMC Crispinus Delacort who is an Immortal Rogue Enforcer and a Homicide Detective. He is also the Partner of Detective Roberts. It becomes quickly clear that there are a WHOLE lot more bodies that have been buried in this yard. The Partners quickly call in the Enforcers (see, this is where background info would have been helpful). The Enforcers are responsible for investigating and crimes that might have been or are continuing to be perpetrated by Rogues. This seems to be the case here and before you know it, there are 5 or more Immortals all sitting in the house kitchen as they try to figure out what is going on.
In addition to all of this craziness, MMC Delacort quickly realizes that Abril is his lifemate. For the most part, the lifemate condition follows geneal cannon from what we generally read in PNR stories, but there ARE some differences.
Without going into spoilers, Crispin feels rushed because he has to walk a fine line between letting Abril know about them so she can stay safe under their protection as they figure out the level of danger, and being terrified that if he tells Abril too quickly, he could scare her away.
This was a very quick and easy read that does not require too much brain power to follow along with and this particular storyline wraps up with a HEA.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This book is out for publication on July 29, 2025.
One of my favorite things about the Argeneau books is that they are so fast paced, the couple is usually together quickly, and the book is devoted to them getting to know each other and facing some sort of challenge that throws them together. This works for me, and I love getting right down to it without a bunch of faffing about with various plot devices. Abril and Crispin came together quickly, and their chemistry was explosive, though they struggled with communication. I loved seeing their interactions especially after Crispin's family came on the scene as well. The fast pace of the book kept me engaged and I found the plot entertaining. My only real complaint here is that the ending felt rather abrupt and not as final or satisfying as I wanted it to be, though it was still a firm HEA. Otherwise, I really liked this story, and I can only hope we'll continue to get more installments in this series so I can indulge in some more escapism.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thought this was going to be just a generic vampire romance but the worldbuilding was very unique and intriguing. I really enjoyed the concept of lifemates and how the vampires in this world are scientifically created and require medical attention to maintain their lifeforce.
In my opinion the overall plot was somewhat all over the place and it felt like lots of the story could have been tightened up and more concise with a few more rewrites and editing. The murder mystery sideplot was introduced as a main plot and then did not get very strong development in favor of the romantic plot, which is fine as this story is clearly a romance however it was an interesting mystery! Both the mystery and the romance could have been equally fleshed out without losing the integrity of either plot. The MC and the ML were both funny and I enjoyed their dynamic a lot! I am glad they got their happy ending. Especially enjoyed how the ML was a boy failure and just super down bad for the MC. I am a little stressed out about the MC though because it was clear that her boss had security cameras throughout the house the MC was housesitting however the (very strict) boss didn't seem to notice that an entire frat of middle aged men as well as 12 human skeletons had been dug up and living in her home while she was away in Paris...
Immortal by Morning is Lynsay Sands doing what she does best, blending humor, romance, and a little murder mystery into another fun installment of the Argeneau series. This time, we get Crispinus “Crispin” Delacort, an immortal enforcer investigating a decades old murder after Lilith, an adorable Lab belonging to Abril Newman’s boss, digs up some bones in the backyard. Given the circumstances, it is clear someone does not want those remains uncovered, and soon, both detectives are invited to stay inside the manor, setting the stage for insta lust and full hands on situations.
Crispin is a likable hero but completely out of his depth when it comes to finding his life mate. Abril? She is smart, a little sassy, and fiercely independent, something we are repeatedly reminded of. Their chemistry is there from the start, but there is not much build up to their attraction. Obviously, life mates are supposed to have an instant connection, but considering the circumstances of their meeting, Crispin’s actions felt wildly unprofessional for someone in his role.
The mystery element keeps things interesting, though the pacing drags at times. Once the danger ramps up, the book finds its stride. Their “courting” has its awkward moments, which feels intentional, but since everything takes place over just a few days, the romance and action feel crammed together, making it a bit too far fetched for my taste. Fans of the series will enjoy the humor and familiar family dynamics that always make the Argeneau books comfort reads, even when murder is involved. That said, I did feel like too much of the book centered on Crispin explaining immortals to Abril. For a first time reader, this might be helpful, but for longtime fans, it reads as filler. Honestly, I would have preferred Lucian to break the news, short, to the point, and probably with some endearingly grumpy sarcasm, leaving Crispin to handle the damage control and actually build a connection with Abril.
Since this was an ARC, I hope some things get cleaned up in editing, especially the constant use of words like “however,” “therefore,” “fortunately,” “unfortunately,” “eventually,” and “obviously.” The overly formal speech (e.g., “will not” instead of “won’t,” “we will” instead of “we’ll”) made the writing feel stiff in places. And when the villain was finally captured and started monologuing, I half expected them to say, “And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it were not for you meddling kids!” Definite Scooby Doo energy.
Is it groundbreaking? Absolutely not. But is it an enjoyable, easy to devour paranormal romance with a charming hero and a heroine who holds her own? Yup. If you are a longtime Argeneau reader, this one is worth picking up. If you are new to the series, it is definitely not the best starting point, but it is a decent addition to Sands’s ever growing immortal universe. That said, I was far more invested in the mystery than the so called “romance” or insta lust.
Special thanks to @NetGalley and @AvonHarperVoyager for an advanced readers copy, in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hopefully, the next book will pick up and fill in the huge holes left in this book.
First, Abril's boss, Gina, calls her multiple times a day, micro-managing from Italy. Then, all of a sudden, there are no more calls? And what about the neighbor/client, Jack, who thought Abril "smelled so delicious"? Gina is never told about all the bodies, or that William has been found?
And the book ends without Abril actually being turned yet? What if she gets killed before she turns?
Okay, I guess the book takes place over a short period (maybe a little more than 24-48 hours), but some follow-up or epilogue is needed!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy
Immortal by Morning by Lynsay Sands is a third person dual-POV paranormal romance continuation of the Argeneau series. Crispin works as a detective in Canada in a precinct full of other immortals. When he and his partner get a call to investigate a skeleton found in someone's yard, the last thing he expects is to meet his life mate, Abril, who is taking care of her boss’s dog. But someone is watching Abril and threatens her safety as Crispin tries to think of a way to explain what is happening between them.
I have not read any of the books in this series before this one. I am familiar with paranormal romance by Krelsey Cole and Gina Showalter, though, and this falls fairly neatly into my expectations of the paranormal romance subgenre. There's hints of danger and horror on top of the romance as well as life mates and immediately knowing who that person is after meeting them. It's roughly a four on the spice scale as the spicy hits are threaded throughout the entire book.
The lore here is sort of like vampires but not quite. We do get a full explanation about halfway through the book for how immortals came to be, exactly how and how not they are different from vampires, and the reason life mates are even a thing. As someone who has not read any book in the series before, I found this to be extremely helpful, but I can understand how it might be frustrating to have it all laid out for several pages for long time readers of this series.
Crispin and Abril’s relationship is contracted by Abril using a lot of slang and talking about pop culture, something Crispin isn't super familiar with, and Crispin having a close relationship with his family while Abril is fairly estranged from her parents and siblings. There's a lot for them to learn from each other even though Crispin is 2900 years old and has seen a lot of what humanity has done. There is also the high heat aspects of their relationship that comes in waves as they also try to get to know each other on a more emotional level
Content warning for depictions of sexual assault and mentions of child death
I would recommend this to fans of twists on vampire lore and readers of paranormal romance who want a lot of spice very quickly
I can’t help but rate this 5⭐️ since The Argeneau is my comfort / nostalgic read. I have loved every single one of these books.
If you are looking for a slow burn this series is not for you. Because of the Nanos most of the couples are very Insta love because of the life mate thing.
The plot was good and I was really invested into the plot and finding out who had put the bodies into Gina’s yard.
I love that everyone was helping Crispin try and woo Avril even know there was a active murder investigation going on 😅 and it’s always a joy when Lucian’s cranky butt gets dragged in.
My only thing is I wish we have had gotten some closure with Abrils family issues. It was mentioned but never resolved.

Abril is housesitting for her boss and helping to coordinate the construction at the house. When her bosses dog, Lilith, uncovers some bones on the construction site she calls the police. She finds herself very attracted to Detective Crispin Delacort. She knows that it is odd giving the circumstances, but she can't help herself. Crispin too finds himself attracted to Abril. They soon find that there is more than one body buried in the yard and the immortal police suspect a rogue may be involved. Now not only do they need to stop the rogue, but they need to keep Abril safe from them. Great mystery in this story.

The Story:
Oh, how I’ve missed the Argeneau’s and Ms. Sand’s writing. Crispin and Abril are such a cute couple, and it was so good to see Lucian and some of the other enforcers again. I laughed, I swooned, I was appalled with the villain. It was a good ride.
I’ve read most (if not all) of the Argeneau novels and this one was OK but not as good as most of the others. I didn’t feel the pacing was right; extremely slow in some spots and then seemingly forced to quickly arrive at the story’s conclusion; perhaps because the author hit her word count. We got a lot of backstory about Abril but it didn’t seem to add much to the plot. We learned some of Crispin’s backstory (which seemed much more interesting) but the plot device of the killer seemed thrown in more for the story to reach the usual endpoint that the Argeneau novels reach.
I think it’s time I stop reading this series. I have been reading them since the very beginning and the books available now are so much better than what they were then. Not that the series isn’t good. Some are better than others but in general they are good. I’m just over the formula.
Crispinus Delacort is an immortal rogue enforcer and a homicide detective who is called to a acreage where human bones have been found in a garden that is being excavated. Abril Newman can’t believe her eyes when her bosses dog digs up a human skull.
