A modern romance set in the entertainment industry, featuring a popular actress jiejie and the younger diamond in the rough actor she discovers.
Overall I thought it was a cute story, though perhaps a bit unrealistic on how quickly the ML gets popular and wins a best actor award as an up and coming actor. The only thing that had me feeling weird was their ages; the FL is 5 years older than the ML and is 23 when she first starts flirting and hitting on the ML. At the time, the ML just had finished with his college admission exam and hadn't even turned 18 yet, so it felt like she was trying too hard to win over the affections of a teenager...
Other than that, I enjoyed the story and appreciated how the FL quickly recognized the ML's talent and pushed him to pursue his dream of acting, even though he had already given up and resigned himself to attend college like a regular student. Plus she supported him against his conniving birth parents and shelled out a lot of money to break his existing contract and get him a good agent, so she definitely cares about him. I think she made the right call to break up with him right when he was restarting his career again, since it would've been detrimental to his fledging career if their relationship had been discovered. They got back together again at a good point after the ML had established himself in the industry.
It's a short and sweet story. The author didn't drag things out at all or focus too much on the details of the projects that they're filming, which I appreciated. Even the process of getting back together was quick. He literally tells everyone that he's planning to chase back his first love in front of the cameras on a reality show and in front of the FL herself, so as the reader you know it won't be long before they reconcile and get back together again.
I'll end my review with one of my favorite parts of the story - their embarrassing secret code. "Squeak!!"
The synopsis is pretty self-evident. I loved the romance, the bickering and the storyline. Yu Chi and Sheng Li ship is hilarious. Yuan Yuan is the MVP tho😭😭
It's an older woman-younger man romance. There's five years of age-gap. The male lead is recently turned 18 years old so it can be said a bit glaring if you really think about it. Other than this, the romance seemed okay.
However, I also have some problem with this novel. The female lead, Sheng Li, met Yu Chi and seduced him (true, he was 18 and was eligible for a consensual relationship). But at the same time, I've to admit that the relationship between them was very unequal in nature. She is a top actress with financial resources at hand while he was struggling with his own problems, barely an adult. It becomes highlighted even more when she dumps him later on. Considering their age-gap, it's too unbalanced especially when we, as readers, can clearly see Yu Chi's efforts and vulnerability in this relationship. This guy was willing to do everything.
On the other hand, we didn't see as much effort from Sheng Li. Even if the gender was reversed, I'd say the same. Sheng Li initiated the relationship, seduced him, teased him, dumps him and then expects him to chase after her during their reconciliation. Where's her effort? Where's her make up for the hurt he endured? True, their breakup happened for good reason, Sheng Li did it thinking for Yu Chi. But he was still hurt in the process and his feelings were trampled upon, that's also true. We also don't see much emotional turmoil in Sheng Li, if any. She's always been the one to be taken care of. Yu Chi is always the one sacrificing. Even the token Yu Chi gave her and she lost it. To search for it, he went with her. And let's not even talk about how every time Yu Chi comes in to the story, she always notices how handsome he is. It's like she only loves him for his body, his grades and perfection. It seemed rather shallow and selfish.
Overall, it's good for time pass. Wouldn't really recommend.
