When Fate nocks her arrow, no one can stop it from striking. A battle between the feye and the elves, a race against time. There can only be one winner—until a secret is unveiled.

When Nyra Daville feels the last of her depleting powers wither away, she is left a powerless queen in the face of her subjects. The threat of the three empires of the feye realm’s downfall forces the allying Crowns to pursue a quest in search for the enchanted stones that hold their magic.

A journey of trust and betrayal, truths and untruths.

Nyra can’t risk losing control of herself with all that is at stake. Not at the risk of rekindling forgotten feelings.

Not when Zyran Varadi is back in her life.

It’s a twisted and dangerous game they play, one that risks the undoing of both their kingdoms. And they may very well have ruined it all in the process of protecting the feye.

Forbidden and deadly, everything she never should have allowed to happen.

At the end of it all, one question will Nyra be able to prove, to herself if no one else, that she is worthy of her title as queen?

If you enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses or Six of Crows, then this book might find a spot on your TBR!

This was an interesting book! I couldn’t get into it as quickly as I wanted to, but I enjoyed it overall. Our MC lost her powers, and those powers are tied to special stones. So she goes on a mission. There are lots of twisty turns in this book that kept me engaged. I enjoyed the characters and the betrayal involved. I liked the world building as well.

4/5 stars for betrayal, adventure, and powers!

I am so thankful that the author reached out and provided me the opportunity to read this ARC! I really enjoyed this book and totally recommend it! I loved how this book kept me guessing and not know who to trust. I felt like I was right there with the FMC. This book had twist & turns, trials, banter, shadow daddy, magic, feye, elves, sirens, you name it! A mix of politics, romance and adventure. I cannot wait for the next book!! I need to know what happens next with that ending!!!!

Instagram review: This book was a whirlwind! I love Nrya and I feel like I am truly going through the obstacles with her throughout her quest and battles. I like the writing style of the read, it would keep you intrigued by not letting you know the whole truth till it made a big impact in the story. The quest was fun, dangerous and heart breaking. I loved the banter and background with the romance in this story! I am dying to know what’s going to happened between the romance, war, and the fate of the kingdoms

I liked the story!

There isn’t any spice. Some chapters are first person, it is only from the FMC POV and the past chapters are third person.

Looking forward to the second book to see what happens with that cliffhanger

- enemies to lovers
- second chance at love
- forbidden love
- slow burn

Synopsis:

Nyra’s powers are gone. Slowly disappearing after her stone, the source of her powers, gets stolen (or so she suspects). Being a Crown, she should have a deep and great ability to use her power and yet it’s gone. And who’s to blame but the elves? Having constantly been at war with the feye, the elves have made themselves enemy number one despite now being in a supposed truce. When she uncovers the plot against her and her powers may go far deeper than the race war that fronts the attacks, Nyra starts to wonder who she can trust.

Atmosphere:

The atmosphere had a good potential the warring kingdoms and races were something that provided intrigue at the beginning of the book. The concept of three monarch ruling together was interesting and I enjoyed the politics. I felt like there were times it was lacking in that a lot of the world felt only half fleshed out but overall it was a good atmosphere

Characters:

I thought the characters were fine. I feel like at this point post-ACOMAF it’s become a trope for shadow boy to be the edgy love interest. This is the third book this year I’ve read where the ruthless leader shadow-y boy has a soft spot after initially being pulled as the enemy and while that’s fine I just feel like I knew what was going to happen. Especially because there wasn’t additional nuances added to the situation. He very easily could’ve been Rhysand or Xaden with little to no alterations in character descriptions or traits. Nyra was fine. Powerful, insecure queen who doesn’t realize her own potential.

Enjoyment/Intrigue:

I enjoyed it enough I just felt like there wasn’t anything that made me WANT to read. The book didn’t really serve any plot points post the Sybil that held my attention or kept me thinking. I mean it took me 2 weeks to get done with one book. Admittedly, I’ve been quite busy with the holidays and such but still, I kept reading a single chapter and found myself wanting to do something else. I feel like sitting down and really slowing the pace as well as leaving room to enjoy the fun plot points could’ve really benefitted this novel.

Logic/Relationships:

I didn’t really like Zyran and Nyra together. There were times I thought they were cuter but I felt more like I was being told they had to be together and it was taboo because it’s forbidden more often than I was thinking they would be cute together. I thought Nyra was purposely portrayed as dumber if only to push the plot when she’s supposedly this smart individual. She lacked emotional attachment to Caz (supposedly someone she really knows and talks to frequently). I also felt like the riddle was too easily solvable and while the logic was fine, I still don’t understand the second and third bits of that riddle nor were they ever explored really other than her just randomly assuming the pendant she bought was going to work for no reason at all.

Plot:

It was fine. The main conflict got started way too fast for me to get properly introduced to the world and what I was getting into. I just couldn’t get into it. I think I wasn’t given the opportunity to become emotionally attached to any of the characters and I felt like the plot kept jumping around. There wasn’t much done by Zarine’s people at all. The quest from the Sybil was just completely abandoned and I get they only had so much time but I feel like that was added to justify the lack of exploration within that plot line not to drive forward the plot. I feel like Luthien wasn’t present enough to make any sort of threat mentally for me. And the weird magic logic was quite confusing to me. Especially with that related to the elven magic at the end.

Writing Style:

Aryn writes well, there is no doubt about that. I think my main issue was the continued switch from first to third person in order to signify different places in time and unnecessary use of overcomplicated words. There were many times I would be reading and finally getting into the first person to switch to third and be confused if we were back in time or Nyra was describing something or we were in Zyran’s perspective. I felt like it was implemented to make the switches more clear but it confused me because everything other than the main narrative was in this point of view. Other than that, there were a lot of random words that seemed very complicated and specific, words I have rarely or never seen used in a book context. She wrote dialogue well and came up with really good ideas I just felt like these things detracted from my focus on the novel.

I was BLOWN AWAY when I read that this story was written by a teenager - it was really good!
I loved the flashbacks that were involved in the story, it gave insight and background into things that were happening and really added to the story as a whole.
The entire book was filled with twists and it really added intrigue and made me want to not put it down - I HAD to know what happened next. But it wasn't too fast paced that you felt lost or confused.
I really enjoyed the characters a lot, and the banter between the two MCs. The history between the two of them is unveiled slowly throughout the book and not all at once in the beginning, which I really liked because it was like you slowly found out the truth of everything - and a lot of it was not what it seemed.
I'm excited to find out what happens next in this story!

A battle between the feye and the elves, a race against time. There can only be one winner-until a secret is unveiled.

I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel by R.I Aryn . It immersed me into this amazing fantasy world of feye, elves, magic, and courts. I loved the plot, and the ending packed a punch. It took me a while to get used to the 3rd and 1st pov, but other than that, it was really good 🤍✨️

I can't wait to see what is in store for Nyra and Zyran in the next book!

This brought everything I love in a refreshing way and I want more! 🔥 I was intrigued by the promise of this book and it being said to be Six of Crows x ACOTAR, although it absolutely stands on its own! I could also see a bit of Jude from The Cruel Prince, not mad about that! 🗡️

This is a new Dark YA duology and I was so intrigued. Thank you to R. I. Aryn for the eARCs of book 1 and 2, I’m so impressed by this being a debut novel by a teen author 🙌🏼 Can’t wait to go straight into book 2!

“He is everything I should detest, menace incarnate.“

💙 Royal romance
👑 Political intrigue
⚔️ High stakes quest
💙 Feye and elves
👑 (Ex)lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers
⚔️ Forced proximity
💙 Forbidden fated mates
👑 Slow burn and tension 🔥 (so good!)
⚔️ "Who did this to you?"
💙 Grumpy-Grumpy
👑 Strong stabby FMC 🗡️
⚔️ Brooding shadow daddy

“Fate may very well curse herself with how her plans will be undone.“

Immediately this world, characters and plot had me. It’s really immersive! Love a tale full of Feye, elves, sirens, dragons and vampires that felt fresh and written in away that felt like a movie while reading. I did not want to lay the book down and everything was so fun to read 🙌🏼 The worldbuilding and magic system was mesmerizing. I had so much fun exploring this world with them and it feels so much bigger than what was shown here. The secrets and plot twist was unexpected in both what it was and when it came to be. I love all of this and just want to go right into book 2! I did struggle a bit to get into the writing style, but that may be a me problem.

”Nothing about me is fair, princess.”

The characters was very easy to love. I love the grumpy-grumpy relationship that felt a refreshing with all the rest of characteristics. And tropes I love. It follows a current timeline and has some chapters showing the past that both helped the plot, worldbuilding and getting to know the MCs in away that felt more intimate. I normally don’t like different timeline, but here it was done so well and I gave so much doing it this way. Their tension and slow burn was to die for… seriously, give me more! 🔥

”Well? Are you not going to scar my pretty face?”
(…) “I’ve never been one to break promises.“
“Get on with it,” he whispers. “Ruin me.“

Thanks to R.I Aryn for allowing me to read the ARC!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is well written and easy to read.

I enjoyed the flanter (flirtatious banter) between the two main characters who just love to hate and hate to love each other really. I was expecting the spice to appear but maybe in Book 2, but the build up will be worth it, hopefully! Haha.

We go through quite a journey of fae lands, elf lands, even sirens make an appearance and a witch - The Sybil. That was a surprise turn of events.

I thought I knew where the story was going but I didn't and I am glad because the cliffhanger has left me gasping for Book 2.

Looking forward to it even if I have to wait a year.

Great book, would recommend.

Well I was not expecting the epic adventure that this book delivers. It is very political and that really drives the plot of the book more so than the characters.

I struggled to get into the story at the beginning, it felt like I was thrust into an evolving situation without any prior knowledge and I was playing catch up but when it got into it, it was much easier to follow.

I don’t know how I feel about Nyra yet. She feels like an oxymoron to me so hopefully book 2 will help me relate more to her.

"I hate it. I want it to happen again."

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a really interesting read; I felt the magic system was a bit different to what I'm used to, and the story was captivating from the very beginning.

Zyran has my heart and I love him.
I loved the strong willed Nyra and felt she was written fiercely and determined.

This was much more political than I'm used to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it throughout.
Those last couple of chapters? Had me in a complete and utter chokehold; shooting up in my bed, on the edge of my seat, kind of hooked!

What to expect:
⚔️ Enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies
🗡️ "Who did this to you?"
⚔️ Second Chance

⚔️ Fated Lovers

Thank you R.I. Aryn for the opportunity to read this eARC - looking forward to the next one!

Reign by R.I. Aryn had a promising premise and I was ecstatic when selected as an eARC reader. However, I unfortunately couldn’t bring myself to finish the book as it just wasn’t for me. This isn’t necessarily to say that the story itself was bad as I’d still recommend it to certain readers, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

I personally found the main character, Nyra, to be quite naive and oblivious. I generally didn’t like her. Despite multiple assassination attempts, she consistently goes out on her own and makes impulsive decisions, always ultimately ending up in one dangerous situation after another. Instead of portraying confidence, she comes off as rude and grumpy to me personally.

When exploring the whole forbidden romance trope, there should be a pretty good and solid reason as to WHY the love interests cannot be together. To me, the reasoning behind their romance being “forbidden” felt weak, especially since they’re fated mates.

I also felt as though the plot advanced WAY too quickly. I don’t shy away from an action packed, fast paced story but this felt overwhelmingly quick. It felt as though every single scene or chapter was one struggle after another, with no time to explore the actual world and lore of Reign.
It felt like everything was written too conveniently. Nyra would always find what she was looking for almost immediately, and would always be saved when in danger. Nearly almost always by Zyran too.

In addition to that, I felt as though there were many unrealistic aspects. One example is that I felt like the characters’ relationships and interactions with each other weren’t authentic and felt very forced. Another example is how loose the Crowns’ duties are to their kingdoms.
Near the beginning of the story, Nyra disappears for 2 days after falling asleep in a cave, spending the night at Zyran’s kingdom and taking in the sights the next day. I questioned why nobody from Nyra’s kingdom was wondering where their queen was for 2 days.

In conclusion, I do think this would be a good story for certain readers. I would maybe recommend this book to readers who enjoy YA books, newbies to romantasy or novice readers. I just personally didn’t enjoy it, but that isn’t to say it was a bad book, especially for a debut novel.

Thankyou R.I. Aryn for giving me the opportunity to read Reign. I truly hope my review doesn’t discourage you, that definitely isn’t my intention. I always maintain an ideal of honesty whether I like a book or not, and I truly hope you can utilise my feedback to improve and continue writing.
I look forward to your future works!

Thank you, R.I. Aryn, for picking me to ARC read Reign. I really enjoyed the book. I’m hoping book 2 is coming out soon. The characters have captivated me, and I'm eager to find out what happens next.

It wasn't until I reached the first 100 pages of the book that I really got into it. I'm not implying that it's bad, but that's just how it is for me with fantasy books. There's so much background, world-building, and intricate details to grasp. I must admit, there were a couple of instances where I had to backtrack and reread certain sections because I found myself missing important details.

I adore Nrya's character. Who wouldn't love a strong female protagonist? Initially, I wasn't sure about Zyran, but as I reached the end of the book, he really grew on me. I'm so accustomed to stories with dual perspectives that I kept waiting to dive into his thoughts, but unfortunately, that never happened. He remains a captivating enigma to me. I'm eagerly anticipating his further development in the next installment.

I truly enjoyed the diverse range of fantastical beings featured in the story - feye, elves, faeries, sirens, dragons, and wolves. It provided a delightful mix. We also hear a little about vampires and morals.

“You underestimate your own strength, princess.”

Spoiler alert: When Nrya's brother is tragically killed, she unexpectedly becomes the queen of Elysior. This is a role she never imagined herself in. However, her father had trained her for this scenario, should it ever arise. A year ago, her stone, which holds her power, was stolen, and it took a whole year for her powers to completely drain. Now, Nrya, along with the two other kings—Zyran Varadi, the King of Darkness, and Caz Inqoir, the King of Zephyr—are on a mission to retrieve the stones before the elves get their hands on them. They must decipher the clues that will lead them to the chest containing stones and find the keys to unlock them. The challenges they'll face in order to save their kingdom are unpredictable, but they're willing to do whatever it takes. After discovering they are bound, Nrya and Zyran are compelled to avoid one another despite their strong attraction to one another. Crowns cannot bond since it can only result in disaster.

This book is peak fantasy and I couldn't put it down. Nyra, the feye queen's powers have disappeared. On the eve of a Solstice ball the elven king, knowing she is powerless, threatens to take her kingdom. To prevent this, Nyra sets out on a journey to retrieve the magical stones that will save her and her people.

I loved Nyra's character so much. She was such a strong FMC, even after losing her magical powers, she still faced danger head-on with a sword in her hand. Zyran was also written well and I love a Shadow King. I thought the world-building was great and was cohesive and the jumps back to the past were written perfectly. Just enough to give you background and information about what was going on in the present. I give it a chef's kiss.

The relationship between Zyran and Nyra was a bit convoluted, and at times I didn't understand it. Why would she be silent after witnessing something so atrocious, just because Zyran said he'd help her one time? That didn't make sense to me. When Czyn went missing for three days and no one could find her, having Nyra find her in like 5 minutes made me roll my eyes a bit. There were also times when a character was speaking and it took me a few re-reads to figure out who was talking. Finally, I feel like the plot with Zarine could have been fleshed out a bit more, it seemed to be wrapped up a bit too conveniently.

This was well paced with great characters driving it. I'm such a sucker for a cliffhanger, I can not WAIT to read the next book and to see how Nyra and Zyran deal with the aftermath of Reign.

am i biased just because the author is the nicest person on the planet? probably. do i care? NAW MAN. Anyways.
Before getting to the book , I would like to express my disappointment when all i saw for the marketing was mostly the romance tropes , because the ACTUAL PLOT? It’s so amazing oh my god. Let’s get into the plot , shall we?
The queen Nyra finds herself at a loss because her powers are GONE! POOF! And after getting many many threats and because no one would want a powerless queen , she and two other Crowns go on a quest to find three stones that have their magic. OH MY GOODNES! This felt like diving back into six of crows , and the way they had so many obstacles and TRIALS? Peak fantasy my god.
The first 100pages were ROUGH , but when aren’t they rough when it’s a fantasy book? You barely understand anything. (at least that’s how it always is for me)
I am so so so delighted with the romance in this book and I CANNOT WAIT to see where it leads !!!! I waited 500pages for a kiss. That was pure torture? This book was 600 pages of angst and yearning and teasing mixed with FANTASY!!!! Oh my god i don’t remember when was the last time that i was this happy over a book. Nyra and Zaryn are two grumps that LITERALLY have the trope lovers - enemies - lovers!!!!!! this was my first time reading this trope and I was NOT disappointed. I love it here. The letters , the betrayals - EVERYTHING. this book is everything to me. I can’t WAIT for cursed! I NEED to know how their story unravels!
Anyways. It looks like I’ve gotten a tad bit too cheerful here. R.I Aryn- you’re my god given solace. Never stop writing.

Reign is the opening installment of a fantasy series that promises power, politics, and forbidden emotions all wrapped in a mystical world.

At the heart of the story is Nyra, the Ice Queen, who commands respect and loyalty from her people. But as the tale unfolds, Nyra faces a terrifying secret — her powers are fading. In a kingdom where strength defines survival, this weakness could cost her everything, and so she conceals it, even as the weight of deception grows heavier.

On the other side, we meet Zyran, the Shadow Wielder and ruler of his own realm. Once, Nyra and Zyran shared a bond that carried the warmth of affection. But time, responsibilities, and ambition have placed them on opposite ends of a fragile balance of power.

The book thrives on themes of power struggle, betrayal, deceit, and trust issues. Every decision the characters make feels like a ripple that could topple kingdoms. The tension between Nyra and Zyran adds depth — it’s not just political rivalry, but also the ache of something tender lost to time and circumstance.

What makes Reign stand out is how it mixes mystical elements — elves, fairies, and magical powers — with very human dilemmas: love, ambition, pride, and fear. The fantasy setting enhances the drama, but at its core, this is a story about characters fighting not only external enemies but also the shadows within themselves.

✨ Verdict:
If you enjoy court politics, morally grey rulers, and slow-burning tension between characters with history, Reign will pull you into its icy, shadow-filled world. The betrayals sting, the secrets intrigue, and the question of who can be trusted keeps you turning the pages.

The pacing is relentless, keeping you on your toes as secrets are unveiled and alliances are tested. Aryn’s rich world-building immerses readers in a vibrant landscape filled with magic and danger, while the well-drawn characters make you invest in their fates.

Ultimately, *Reign* poses the poignant question: Can Nyra prove her worth as a queen? This gripping tale of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery will stay with you long after the last page is turned.

"𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠." ˗ˏˋ જ⁀➴ ˎˊ˗

If you're looking for your next addicting dark YA fantasy romance read to start off 2025 on a high note, you have to pick up Reign by R.I. Aryn. I had the pleasure of receiving an arc of this stunning novel and I'm so thankful for it!

In this story, we're following our strong-hearted FMC Nyra, an ice queen who has lost her powers but is keeping this loss hidden to protect her title as queen. Very early on in the story, we have an attempt on her life by a mysterious assassin that really kicks the political intrigue that's so heavy in this book into gear. We're thrown into an intricate - but easy to understand - world complete with elves, feye and dragons complimented by a magic system that's quite unique to anything I've read. I was immediately gripped from the very first few pages, which is always a high compliment from me because new fantasies can take me a bit to get into.

"𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡, 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬."

The political intrigue keeps us on our toes, but our hearts stay occupied with shadow daddy Zyran and the forbidden, enemies-to-lovers (ex-lover) slow burn between him and Nyra. He's everything and the tension and banter between these two was 🤌🏻

"𝐇𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞."

I was on the edge of my seat with the jaw-dropping betrayals and the political tension between the feye and the elves. The last few chapters had me flipping a mile a minute to find out what was going to happen. I can't wait until book 2!

Thank you so much again, R.I. Aryn, for the opportunity to read this early! Your writing and prose are beautifully done and a huge reason why I was hooked from the start. Congratulations on a wonderful debut! I can't wait to read what more you have in store for us in the future!

When Fate nocks her arrow, no one can stop it from striking.

To protect her kingdom, Queen Nyra Deville must embark on a quest. Her goal - to rally three feye realms in hopes of finding the enchanted stones that hold their magic. But when her childhood friend, Zyran Varadi finds his way back into her life, Nyra finds herself with a challenge all her own - to fight the feelings of her heart.

Wow. I was absolutely blown away by how much I enjoyed R.I. Aryn’s debut novel, Reign. A battle between elves and feye, this fantasy novel is set in a world of magic, one that is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas.

I adored R.I. Aryn’s writing style. She truly had such a way with words, and I thought her novel was beautiful written. There were a few times where we would jump from first to third person for flashbacks, which was a bit jarring until I understood that she was using this switch to indicate a moment in the past. She built a complex magic system as well as complex relationships between the elves and the feye. I hadn’t read a story about elves, so I found this to be quite refreshing and exciting.

My favorite part of the novel was watching Nyra and Zyran’s relationship unravel. We’re talking slow-burn, forced proximity, who did this to you - and let me tell you, it did not disappoint🔥

Read if you like:
-Fantasy & romance
-Feye
-Strong female characters
-Black cat energy
-Slow-burn
-Forced proximity
-Who did this to you?
-Closed door romance

Reign ends on a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait for book two!

This book had all the ingredients of a great fantasy, warring kingdoms, ancient magic, political tension, and a powerful heroine struggling to find her place. But unfortunately, most of those elements felt half-baked or underused.

It felt like the worldbuilding never went deeper than surface level. I wanted to get lost in the setting, but instead, I was left with vague impressions of a world that could have been much more vibrant and immersive.
The characters were just…fine. The love interest in particular felt like yet another iteration of the “dark, broody leader with a soft spot for the heroine” trope. I’ve seen this dynamic too many times, and it didn’t offer anything new here. Nyra, the protagonist, had the makings of a strong lead, but came across as frustratingly naive or conveniently unaware of her own powers.

The pacing dragged. I found myself struggling to stay engaged. There were few plot points that truly hooked me, and I kept waiting for something exciting to happen. The story had moments of intrigue, but they were lost in a sea of wandering chapters and confusing logic leaps.
The romance didn’t work for me. It felt forced and overly reliant on the “forbidden love” angle without enough emotional grounding. Nyra and Zyren lacked chemistry, and the plot often relied on them making irrational choices just to push things forward.

The writing was technically solid, but the constant shift between first and third person was jarring. I often lost track of the timeline or POV.

🗡️👑❄️ Reign by R.I. Aryn ❄️👑🗡️
✨ ARC Read | Rating ✨

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ || -

“Fate has chosen you for me and I for you, but fate is a mere husk of an entity who does not always have to get her way. And for us, her way is anything but the desired outcome.”

🤩 OKAY. I absolutely loved the storyline of this book! It is relatively fast paced action wise but a SUPER slow burn! 🔥 I loved the plot twists, the betrayals, the lovers to enemies back to lovers (maybe?) & all of it. I was captivated by the story from the get go and was so excited to go on the journey with Nyra, Caz, & Zyran! We love a broody shadow daddy - and that’s exactly what we get with Zyran! 😍🥵 There’s no smut.. but the tension is good! 🤌🏻 AND THE CLIFFHANGER. Why!? 😭 i need to know what happens!? I can’t wait for book 2!

❄️ B R I E F ✨ O V E R V I E W ❄️
Nyra is the Queen of Elysior who also has magical powers. When her powers start deteriorating & then vanish completely, she tries to keep it a secret.. too bad her ex-lover/now enemy Zyran notices. Nyra calls the other two feye Kings - Zyran and Caz - to discuss what could be happening and their realization is a horrible one that could jeopardize all 3 of their kingdoms! Will Nyra & Zyran be able to move forward & work together despite their past? Will they find out what happened to Nyra’s powers? 👀

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 but rounded up

Mind to mind connection, accidental marriage, high stakes quest, betrayal, politics, more betrayal(?), second chance, evil ultimatums, stabby FMC, shadow daddy, ice queen, intrigue

We follow Nyra in this story who losing her powers but keeping it hidden because no one would want her to stay Queen if they discovered she was powerless. Soon, however, the fragile peace with the elves is broken when the Elf King threatens her to lose her kingdom or join with him since he knows she has lost her powers. Nyra must put her trust in the other two feye kings on a quest to find the magic stones of their kingdoms before the elves find them.

There is intrigue along the way and a past with Zyran, the King of Darkness (hello shadow daddy) that we learn more about as we go on. I do feel like this book was quite a bit of set up (and backstory) but I am excited to see more of Nyra and Zyran's journey and get to know them better, especially Zyran! The last bit was definitely action packed and left me wanting the next book!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love an intriguing romantasy book. I feel as if this book did not disappoint when it comes to intrigue. If you are looking for a book with tons of twists and turns, then this is your book. I enjoy a good book with a good plot twist, but it can also get a little bit overwhelming when a lot of things are going on at once. The world building in this story was beautifully written. A story where Feye’s and Elves battles to survive. Our FMC, Nyra, slowly loses her powers and becomes a helpless and powerless Queen in the face of her subjects. This forces the allying crowns to ban together to find the stones that hold their magic. The King of the elves soon finds out about her fading powers and will try to play on her downfall. This is a book of political intrigue, unfolded secrets, an eventful journey, and it won’t leave you bored. However, I will add, this is more of a YA book. I don’t mind that at all, but I did want to add that for those that might be looking for something different. Overall, if you’re looking for a book that has enemies to lovers, this is your book because there is definitely much more tied into it.

I need book 2!!!!

This was so exciting to read!! I needed to know what was happening with every page turning.

Being a powerless queen is difficult especially if the powers is what keeps you a queen. The Feye and Elves have a treaty but by the turns of events that changes.

From finding clues in the temples which started as an investigation of raids, to going to see the Sybil and getting trials and eventually a riddle!

Tried to find out the riddle the beginning part leads them to the Siren’s where she needs to win from the Siren Queen

Seeing as on this journey Nyra doesn’t believe in herself no matter how much she achieves, because she feels it’s only and still is her brothers right. She is still drowning in sorrow over it.

Zyran our shadow wielding Feye is standing by her side even when they both learn they can’t be together at all because of what dangerous consequences it will have. No matter how hard they fight the bond, they still fall for each other. He gave her the endearing nickname “princess” 🥹

In the end they face Eldarion since he broke the treaty with the Feye and battle him until they need to make a dangerous but crucial decision which will save Elantris but eventually would also be the down fall of it…

The premise of the book caught me from the start.
I enjoyed reading this but did find the first half of the book wasn’t gripping me a huge amount due to searching and traveling but I was enjoying the plot. I also kept having questions and thought they would go un-answered, but don’t worry they do get answered in this book / in Cursed.

The writing of characters is well done and represented actual adults and not adults that act like kids, which I have read in older authors books. Yes one character is a little naïve, but that is explained as to why and it’s understandable.
The world building is medium, it gives enough information to build the pictures but also doesn’t drown you in it and take you away from the plot. I was able to easily imagine the places the story takes us to. Also I love the map that’s included.

I’m rating 3 stars because although I liked it, it wasn’t hugely grabbing my attention. But the fact this was written by a 16 year old is amazing and for her first book she has done a great job. YA books can be a swing and a miss for me. This did keep me interested and I picked up Cursed right after reading it, especially with that ending. Currently 70% through cursed and the story just gets better and her writing has grown as well.

Wow this book was quite the journey and such a rollercoaster! I feel like I have whiplash from all the
twists and turns in this book!

The writing was so beautifully well done. The world building was incredible and such a vivid picture was painted!

I felt a connection to the FMC, who first of all was a badass and never shies from a fight, and also is such a winter lover and wields ice magic, which spoke to my soul.

One thing I had a hard time with in this book was I got confused a few times. Occasionally the story would jump to a flashback or a dream but there was no way to know that was what was happening at first. Eventually I was able to figure out when those chapters were happening because they were usually pretty short but it took some time to get used to the sudden changes

It was really easy to get immersed into this book and it was quite the adventure. I never knew what was going to happen next because there were so many plot twists!

Fair warning this book leaves you on a cliffhanger at the edge of your seat and you will absolutely be wanting more! Excited for book two and to see what happens next!

4.0 stars ✨✨✨✨

Just finished Reign this morning, and my heart is still recovering 🫠. From the very first page, the magic system had me hooked—it was so unique and refreshing, like stepping into a completely new world 🌌.

Zyran? Yeah, he’s mine now🖤. He’s everything. And Nyra? A whole force of nature 🌪️. Fierce, relentless, and so unapologetically herself—I couldn’t stop cheering her on. Their connection had me flipping pages so fast, I nearly broke my Kindle 💨📖.

The political intrigue in this book? Unexpected, but wow. It added such depth, and those final chapters? They had me on the edge of my seat, clutching my blanket like it could save me from the chaos 😱. Twists, turns, heartbreak—I was living for it.

What you can expect:
⚔️ Enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies (and everything in between)
⚔️ Forbidden love, second chances, and all the fated vibes 💔✨
⚔️ Magic, sirens, dragons, and a world that feels alive 🐉🪄
⚔️ Gut-punch twists, edge-of-your-seat tension, and that “Who did this to you?” moment

This book is a wild, emotional ride, and I loved every second of it 🫶. Thank you, R.I. Aryn, for the eARC—I’m already counting down to the next one 🔥.
