“Wait! Don’t lift her veil,” Jason said, his voice trembling with a mix of fear and uncertainty. Panic washed over him as he stepped back, shaking his head. “I can’t do this. I can’t marry your daughter.”

Haunted by rumours of what might lie beneath that veil, the thought of committing to an arranged marriage with someone he feared might be unattractive filled him with dread, he thought, as he left the altar.

Lucy’s heart dropped as she registered Jason’s declaration, her father’s expression shifting from pride to confusion and concern.

Just that moment, a handsome figure rose from his seat and approached Lucy. It was Liam, Jason's charming friend who had caught her eye the night before at the karaoke club. “You’re not leaving here without a groom today!” he declared.

The priest, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, stepped forward, his voice steady. “We have a groom if the bride agrees.”

Lucy nodded “I agree,” she said, her heart pounding. As her father lifted the veil, Liam’s eyes widened in astonishment as he beheld the stunning woman before him.

“Lucinda?” he exclaimed, unable to contain his joy. The beauty both he and Jason had admired the night before was standing right in front of him. “It’s actually Lucy,” she corrected him with a shy smile.

When the words “I do” left Liam's lips, he scarcely waited for the priest to finish before he leaned in, capturing Lucy’s lips in a passionate kiss.

He murmured against her lips, “Jason is so going to regret this,”

When Lucy’s grandmother dies, she’s forced to move back to her father and stepmother’s house. It’s with this move that she finds out the horrible truth that her father’s business is about to go bankrupt and that she is the only one that can save it. The stakes are high; not only will she lose the prestige land she inherited from her grandmother, but she’ll also lose her freedom as she’s forced into an arranged marriage with the town playboy, Jason. With their marriage, Jason’s family can get the inherited land for a cheaper price, which will then be enough to save her father’s business. Will Lucy’s loyalty overpower her need to be free? You’ll just have to get the book to find out the answer.

Bound by Inheritance by The Elusive Authoress, is a novel that makes you realize that some people’s core existence is about money and that they would do anything possible to gain financial freedom, no matter who they hurt in the process.

There are so many positives in this novel for me, but I’ll only name a few. First and foremost, the author did exceptional work in planning and executing the plot. It was impossible to predict what would happen next, as the author did exceptional work on creating suspense and unexpected turns. Although there were a vast number of characters, they were well developed, making them authentic and relatable. Lastly, since romance is not my choice of genre, I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this novel. Once you start, you find it difficult to put it down.

There’s nothing I dislike about this book. I found no profanity or erotic scenes.

My rating for this book is 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this novel to readers from the age of 16, readers who love young adult romances, and even those readers who don't; it will give you a whole new perspective on young adult romances.

It was a good read, with some funny parts and some serious parts, but it did have numerous grammar issues, which sometimes made me wonder who was actually speaking. It could have also been a bit longer to show what actually happens to Lucy and Liam with Clara interfering.
