If you are yearning for an unputdownable mystery novel to read then this book will fill that need without a doubt. “Grave Consequences” is the twelfth book in the Lake Pines Mystery Series, and it is simply superb. The twists in the book are seamlessly written, the pace is riveting, keeping the reader fully engaged with aching suspense right through to the very end.
Abbott’s series is centred around the sleepy little fictional town of Lake Pines, which is geographically small, but home to plenty of secrets that people would prefer remain buried. Some people will go to extraordinary lengths to prevent their secrets from surfacing. The discovery of human remains at a local construction site, is the driving force that will result in the revelation of a decades long mystery with deception at every corner rearing its ugly head. It’s a deceptively captivating storyline.
Dr. Kerry Dearborne will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of identifying the damaged remains in a bank heist gone wrong back in 1973. Kerry is tenacious, but the answers to unlocking the secrets of the past comes knocking on her door. Her husband Simon is holding one of the keys. It’s a shocking turn of events.
Abbott has marvellously incorporated real life events from Canada’s past into this mystery novel. Operation Fish and an actual bank robbery in Kenora are the building blocks for this book, giving it a solid foundation, but it’s the author’s vivid imagination and her ability to write that makes this book a gripping and compelling read from beginning to end. “Grave Consequences”, is a story with a lot of imagination, great characters and an exciting plot. Abbott can transport any reader into Lake Pines and once you arrive, you’ll be hooked.
