Prejudice and Pride : A Contemporary Twist

Rate this book
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that finding love in the modern world is anything but simple.

Liz Bennet is a successful writer living in San Francisco, content with her career, her independence, and the fast-paced city life. But her mother’s determination to marry her off—and her own complicated feelings about romance—make it hard to avoid the dreaded What if I end up alone?

Enter Will Darcy, a wealthy tech genius with an icy exterior and a complicated past. Despite her initial distaste for him, Liz begins to see glimpses of the man beneath the reserved façade. But old wounds, misunderstandings, and modern-day pride threaten to keep them apart.

Prejudice and Pride is the first book in Viktoria Schiller's Modern Romance Retellings series, where classic romance characters are reimagined in a world of social media, career ambitions, and the timeless search for love. Join Liz, Darcy, and their circle of friends—including a modern Emma Woodhouse and Anne Elliot—as they navigate love, friendship, and self-discovery in the twenty-first century.

For fans of romantic comedies, classic literature retellings, and strong female leads, Prejudice and Pride is a refreshing journey into love and personal growth.

Interesting

This is my first story from this writer and its not going to be the last. I enjoy the difference between the Austen era and the modern adaptations mainly because of the huge difference in social norms.
The angst is missing between Darcy and Elizabeth which I enjoy. This centers around Wickham and his use of women for money. In Austens day this wouldn't be brought to the public but today an exposure in print isn't going to ruin a families reputation.
The story is short but incredibly well written.

3.5 rounded up. This was an easy afternoon's read. It was interesting that there was an Emma and Anne Elliot in the story too, as friends of Liz. Darcy was interesting, and I liked Liz and Jane. Originally she thought Will Darcy was cold and haughty, but he opened up a little when she interviewed him for an article about sustainability in the tech world. Lydia gets scammed by George Wickham, and because Liz is a free-lance writer of newsworthy things, she gets angry at the destruction of Lydia's life and circumstances. She writes an exposé of Wickham, getting information to start her research from Darcy. He opens up to her a lot more, but it was not very romantic.

The story line was an interesting take on the Pride and Prejudice story. Some things were not very thorough, or left loose ends. Wickham was angry, but did nothing to Liz, though he did try to weasel himself back with Lydia, but she was smart enough to text Liz who brought Darcy to intervene. But what did happen to Wickham? Also, at the beginning Mrs. Bennet was obnoxious in trying to set up Liz to get her married. Then, even with the matrimonial scent of Darcy, she's just crickets. Also, Liz and Will didn't actually get together other than going to a couple of cafés. It was a bit of a letdown.

Prejudice and Pride is everything I never knew I needed in a modern Austen reimagining. Set in a tech-savvy, socially conscious San Francisco, this version of Liz Bennet is sharp, independent, and refreshingly real—and Will Darcy? Still brooding, still brilliant, and now with a sustainability startup.
