When the ballerina and the gangster fall in love... chaos will follow.

Ofelia Reyes has had two goals in to be the best dancer at her academy and to be the politician’s perfect daughter.

A sheltered life is one of the only things she’s ever known, and all the perfectly curated plans change the day she first lays eyes on Fabián Cuervo, an heir to the notorious Raven Brothers gang.

Sucked into a world of drugs, crime, and seduction puts her entire future in jeopardy, but Ofelia is willing to risk it all for love–even a war between families.

Fabián Cuervo has always been his father’s perfect soldier. He’s dedicated his whole life to the Raven Brothers and their criminal empire, but his loyalty wavers the day he sets eyes on Ofelia Reyes.

Their families are enemies, and when his father orders him to use her for their own gain, the two are forced to make a decision that could plunge those around them into a dangerous war that could very well cost them their lives.

Nevermore is a Romeo & Juliet reimagining with dark academia elements and a happily ever after. This novella is an intro into the world of The Raven Brothers and this series interconnects with Los Diablos Motorcycle Club and El Rancho Los Corazones, but can be read as a standalone.

A spicy Latinx reimagining of Romeo and Juliet that shows how graceful it can be when the gangster and the ballerina fall in love.

Short Synopsis:
Ofelia wants nothing more than to be the perfect prima ballerina and the perfect daughter to her Governor father. But when she falls head over heels for the local gangster, Fabian, things take a drastic and unexpected turn.

General Thoughts:
This Romeo and Juliet reimagining blends together two of this author's worlds and is a lot of fun to read. This can definitely be red as a standalone however, you do not need contacts from the other books to enjoy this. The author describes this novella as at times cheesy but full of love, and I completely agree with that. This was an absolute hit for me.

The characters were so easy to fall in love with. Even the gangster, Fabian, had his soft side, and it was easy to just melt under his gaze. I really loved the tidbits of information that we got within the Novella about their own personal struggles and their families. It gave the characters depth that is hard to find a novella setting.

Within this novella, I feel like we got just enough of the world and situation around the two main characters that we were able to understand their motivations and desires. I didn't feel like anything was really lacking within this novel for me to love and understand it. The quick whirlwind romance was the plot and the point and it definitely delivered.

The spice is spicy. I loved the inclusion of dirty talk, especially in Spanish. This hit so many notes for me. I was so excited to see some conversational Spanish spoken very well throughout the novel.

I cannot wait for more interconnected standalone's within the same world.

Disclaimer: I read this book via ebook I purchased. All opinions are my own. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Quick read

This book went to fastttt! I wish it had been longer, but as an intro novella it definitely caught my interest. This is a Romeo and Juliet retelling with an HEA guaranteed, so expect a lot of bumps along the way.

Ofelia is the daughter of a prominent politician, and she's always played her role as the "good daughter" well. When she meets Fabian at a party one evening, instant sparks fly between them. She has a fun night with him, but something has them gravitating towards one another more and more.

I like how Fabian dove head first into wanting to support Ofelia. He's got a lot going on in his life, so carving out some time for her is no small feat. He's part of the Raven Brothers gang, has always been a son that his Dad could rely on to handle the gritty business, but knows that a line will have to be drawn between his work and his woman. So begins the push and pull between Ofelia, Fabian, and the lives they've been born into.

This book is fast, short, and full of instalove, but I loved it. I can't wait to read more about these brothers and the dark world they live in.

Nevermore by Jade Hernández is a dark romance and Romeo and Juliet retelling novella. It's interconnected to some of the author's other series, and it's done wonderfully! It follows Ofelia, a straight-edge ballerina and politician's daughter, who meets bad boy Fabian, heir to the Raven brothers gang. These men!!! I need more of them! 😍

I literally ate this novella up! It was so damn yummy. The plot flowed easily! I absolutely loved the connection and chemistry between Ofelia and Fabian. Fabian was all about Ofelia right away, but there was still so much angst. The way he spoke to her!!!! So good! I loved the dark academic vibes and the other characters we met. The end literally had me screaming with excitement!

Can't wait to see where this goes 😉

If you’re into dark academia novellas this is your next one! It’s give Romeo and Juliet vibes as well!

Ofelia has lived a privileged life being a politicians daughter and a ballerina. Fabián was born into his dad’s criminal empire and forced to work for him.

Their families are enemies, but once the two meet, they’re both willing to defy their families to be together.

Go pick this up! IMMEDIATELY! Anything from Jade is an auto read/auto purchase book for me!

Like it was a part of them and radiated out of every single pore.
Then there were men like the one before me.
Men who exuded darkness.”

Really good dark and spicy Romeo x Juliet retelling
Perfectly paced for me

The story was nicely written, and I loved the incorporation of Indigenous culture — it added a unique and powerful layer to the narrative. This is a Romeo & Juliet retelling with a twist. It was dark, gritty, with gangsters.

My only critique is that the pacing felt a bit rushed. With more detail and a bit more time spent developing certain parts of the story, it could have had even greater emotional depth.

**make sure to check trigger warnings**

Jade Hernandez put a Latinx twist on Romeo & Juliet and all I have to say is, THANK YOU. From the representation, the talks on colorism within the Latinx community, and the Spanish dirty talk, Nevermore delivers on every front. This is a fast paced novella that will have you giggling, blushing, crying, and excited for the villains downfall.😈

The writing was giving Mexican Shakespeare and I was absolutely in love with it. Hernandez brought all the “classic lit” vibes to this gothic reimagining that made it feel like I was back in my high school English class. The way her characters spoke, both to each other and in their own minds, was absolutely breathtaking. I wanted to soak each and every line in and stay there forever.

The romance, THE ROMANCE!!!! Ugh, I love Ofe and Fabián so much. Like yes, please be obsessed with each other and run away together to live happily ever after. And y’all, the spice was spicing.🫦 Spanish dirty talk is superior and there’s nothing you can say to make me change my mind.

For a while I was devestated by the thought that these two characters who were so irrevocably in love were also being pulled apart by their fucked up worlds. I hated both of their dads with a passion! The things they put their children through were heartbreaking and had me in tears. The side characters (specifically on Fabián’s side because Ofe’s friends🥴) brought some much needed comedic relief and were so entertaining. I’m hoping some (all) of them to get their own stories (maybe in full length novels🫣). I can’t wait to learn more about The Raven Brothers!

I received an ARC of this book from the author. All thoughts below are my own.

Nevermore is a dark, new adult novella that features:
Good girl / bad boy
Ballerina x Gangster
Set in Mexico
Unknowing family rivals (her family is highly influential and politically connected; his family runs a criminal organization)
Insta-love
I'd do anything to be with you

If you are familiar with Jade Hernandez's other work - Learn to Love You and Los Diablos MC - this book very lightly ties into both of those. However, if this is your entry point, you aren't missing any important context or backstory in Nevermore. This story reminded me a bit of Ink, the prequel novella in the Los Diablos Locos motorcycle club series. However, I felt that this story was a stronger beginning by comparison. Ofelia, the FMC, is described as having fair and more European features, while Fabian, the MMC, is described with a darker complexion and more indigenous physical traits. Hernandez weaves in commentary on racism and colorism within Mexican social structures, as a result of Spanish colonization, in a way that felt natural and aligned with the characters internal thoughts. The ending was a bit swift - with the couple walking off into the great unknown and away from their toxic and feuding families - but it seems to set up future installments in this series.

This was only 139 pages and the plot and pacing kept things moving. Nevermore was a fast paced read for when you are in the mood for something with darker vibes but low on time.

Nevermore is a dark forbidden romance novella and the beginning to a bigger series that will feature the Raven Brothers. In it we are following Ofelia who is a politician’s daughter. She’s the good girl, the obedient daughter, and a beautiful ballerina. Dance is her life, her passion and you can tell in the way she talks about it in this read. One night after being dragged to a party, she meets Fabián, a Raven Brother, whose family is known for crime and selling drugs. His father despises hers and so a forbidden love is born.
I really enjoyed this quick look into this darker world of Jade’s and I am most assuredly excited to see where she takes it. I know the first full book will be Sebastián’s story and omg I can’t wait. We got to see tiny glimpses of the oldest brother in this novella and he is definitely grumpy, growly, and broody which is a personal kryptonite of mine.

What to expect:

"I don’t think I made myself clear last night,” he continued. “I want you. I don’t just want you for a short time. I want you for a long time. I wanted you yesterday. I want you today. I want you tomorrow. I wanted you in a past life and I want you in this one and when the next life comes and goes, I’ll want you then, too. I want you. In every lifetime, in every way that you could possibly give me."

This novella was everything I didn't know I needed right now. A Latine Romeo x Juliet retelling with a gangster and a ballerina??? Yes, pls.

I love how immediately we are thrown into Fabián and Ofelia's whirlwind romance. It is electric between them from the moment their eyes lock. I have no other words to describe their connection other than romantic, possessive, and all encompassing. If you're not a fan of insta love, maybe this won't be for you, but I was swept away right along with them from the get go. The pacing was perfect to me and I thought it was just right for a novella. The only reason I'd want a full length novel is to just get more of Fabián and Ofelia!!

The nicknames Fabián used with her were one of my favorite parts. Preciosa and princesita were an elite combo. I'd have done anything for this man too lmaooo.

I cannot wait for more into this world and I love the tie in to her El Rancho Los Corazones series. Jade Hernandez is quickly becoming a favorite!!

A Romeo & Juliet-inspired tale set in Mexico among rival families (politicians and criminal cartels). Ofelia is the daughter of a politician attending a ballet academy. Dance is her life and love. At a party, she meets Fabian, one of the Raven Brothers and part of a criminal enterprise that sells drugs (among other things). For these two star-crossed lovers, it is almost fate. They fall into one another quickly, despite knowing that they are nothing alike, and courting trouble.

But their love is instant. It is chemistry and rough around the edges, but most of all it is real. One of the few real things that either of them can cling to when so much is stacked against them on either side. And everything comes to a head when their fathers find out.

There is darkness, abusive actions (not between the FMC-MMC), and toxic family ties that facilitate the actions that happen on the page. But Ofe and Fabian, they are good to each other. For each other. This one took off running and did not let up. Even with the instant attraction, there was tension that held throughout the whole story. If you like retellings that are dark and gritty, this one is definitely for you.

ARC REVIEW

Nevermore is a captivating blend of forbidden love, danger, and passion that had me hooked from the beginning. Jade Hernández does a great job at crafting a Romeo & Juliet-inspired dark-romance infused with high-stakes drama that keeps engaged and wanting for more.

I’m a total STAN of Ofelia and Fabián’s chemistry—it's electric. Their connection feels effortless yet deeply emotional, making it impossible not to root for them. Ofelia is a disciplined ballerina and politician’s daughter, and Fabián is the heir to a criminal empire. When Fabián chooses love over loyalty, he pays the price, and the fallout is rough.

Hernández 's writing is sharp and immersive, with dialogue that flows naturally. The seamless mix of Spanish added so much authenticity and depth—I loved the unapologetic immersion of Spanish phrases. It felt like it was written for me!

The overall tension is palpable, the stakes are high. Hernández delivers a satisfying and a MUCH-NEEDED happily ever after.

If you're craving a forbidden romance with some action, angst, and a love worth fighting for, Nevermore is a must-read.

Thank you for the ARC opportunity!

Nevermore is a Dark Academia romance novella that has an intriguing twist. Told from a Romeo and Juliet retelling vibe, characters Ofelia and Fabián are from rival families (corrupt politicians and organized crime family).

Ofelia and Fabián’s story begins with a chance encounter, and solidifies their forever. What was supposed to be a simple night out at a party became a real connection, but this love isn’t an easy thing to obtain.

There’s tension, action, and angst that follows these lovebirds.

Ofelia and Fabián were characters that differed greatly in lifestyle, yet were similar in spirit. Souls ensnared in cages by those who were supposed to foster their growth, but thankfully once they met we get to see them begin their soaring.

It was a joy to read this novella, while short it packed a punch with entertaining moments and characters that were beautifully crafted. The plot was a mix of Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespearean inspiration while beautifully showcasing Mexican representation.

I truly vibed through this darling novella, and hope others enjoy the experience too!

Dive into "Nevermore," a modern twist on Romeo & Juliet, all wrapped up in a deliciously dark academia vibe!

Picture this: Ofelia, the pampered princess of a politician and a ballerina, living the high life in a posh private university in Mexico. And then there's Fabián, the not-so-lucky lad tangled up in a criminal empire thanks to dear old dad.

Even though their families are like fire and ice, the sparks fly when these two meet, and they're ready to toss family feuds aside for love.

This novella keeps the drama sizzling and the pages turning. Perfect for those craving a taste of dark romance but short on reading time—get ready for a whirlwind of emotions!

I was CONSUMED by this novella. This is a Romeo & Juliet retelling with dark academia elements, forbidden love , family rivalry, love at first sight, opposites attract and an HEA✨

Ofelia grew up to be her father’s perfect daughter and the perfect ballet dancer. All she wanted was to be free, to live life without expectations and be happy.
Fabian has always known he lived in a dangerous world. His father a notoriously known criminal with a greed for power. Fabian never knew what light felt like until he met her.

As soon as her and Fabian met I knew I needed to buckle up, their connection was truly what dreams are made of. The way he spoke to her. POETIC AF😩 Utterly obsessed with her and willing to protect from anyone, including his father. His punishment?! Diabolical 😭 I knew he loved her from their first touch but he really laid his life on the line.I also really loved the Indigenous aspect of this, the representation was a first for me. Two separate lives & fate, I mean what’s not to love? I devoured this in a day, I couldn’t stop reading. I need more😭

Thank you so much for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

3.5 ⭐️

This was honestly such a fun read and I was so glad to be back in Jade Hernandez's universe. I love how Nevermore filled in the gaps for her other books.

Ofelia and Fabian have such amazing chemistry and I loved each and every scene, but I really wish we got more. Going into the book, I knew it was going to be short, but as I kept reading I just kept saying "this can't be it, there has to be more." I felt as if there were some scenes and characters that we really didn't need to focus on, and by focusing on them it felt like we were starting to lose the plot tbh. The jealousy throughout the book felt like it was there just to fill in a trope and didn't feel "realistic" to the character.

Aside from that, I still had so much fun. I really do wish this was more than just a novella, and I can't wait to see the other Raven Brothers.

Please check any and all trigger/content warnings before reading! ♡♡♡

What to expect:
🖤 Dark Academia
💚 Latinx Romance Novella
🖤 Romeo & Juliet Retelling
💚 Forbidden/Insta Love

“Our love was as obvious as the heat of the sun and the shadows of the moon.”

“You’re stuck with me now,” he whispered. “Siempre.”

I am already a Romeo & Juliet fan and mix in Edgar Allan Poe’s inspirations; I loved it! To say I DEVOURED this novella is an understatement.

Jade’s beautiful writing captivated my attention from the beginning. Ofelia is a ballerina in all of her light, and Fabián is a gangster with addictive darkness. The intensity of Ofelia and Fabián’s chemistry, passion, and love for one another, then to add the Spanish dirty talk, had me melting (especially the Princesa 🫠).

The twists and turns take you for a capturing ride to introduce the Raven Brothers series. I am more than READY for what is to come!

Thank you so much, Jade Hernández, for the opportunity to read this as an ARC! 🖤

✨ARC Review✨

This was the Latine retelling of Romeo and Juliet I needed! The politician’s good girl daughter and the criminal’s bad boy son find each other at a college party and fall in love 😮‍💨. I’m not huge on insta love but this is a novella and knew it was bound to happen. Jade Hernandez managed to writes an amazing love story in less than 150 pages! She managed to get me to love and root for the couple in such a short time.

I am very excited to read the next book in the stories. I was intrigued by Sebastian from the scenes he was in and can’t wait to see him fall in love.

Rating: 6/5
Spice: 🌶️
Pros: quick storyline, hot bad boy brothers 🥵, lovable characters
Cons: I only got Fabian for 135 pages, the heart attack I got in that scene (not the scene itself because it was needed but just my mini heart attack lol)

Wow. Just wow. This book was so good—I could not put it down! From start to finish, I was completely hooked. The world-building was so vivid and immersive, and the descriptions made me feel like I was right there alongside the characters and let’s talk about the tension—chef’s kiss! The smut? Oh, it was smutting in all the best ways. The chemistry between the characters was fire, and I could feel the connection between Ofelia and Fabian through my Kindle. Their dynamic had me absolutely swooning. On top of that, the jaw-dropping moments?? I gasped out loud more times than I can count. The twists, the reveals, the drama—it was everything I wanted and more. I need Book Two now! If you love a book that pulls you in with rich details, keeps you up at night, and delivers all the spice, Nevermore is a must-read.

I’ve never read anything by this author before, but when I saw a short synopsis of this book, I knew I had to read it. It’s a dark romance reimagining of Romeo and Juliet, and I was totally here for it! One thing that was new to me was that this book had dance and ballerinas in it. I might have to add that to my TBR list. I also loved that this book is short and fast-paced. It took me a little longer to finish than I expected, but it wasn’t because I was bored. I just didn’t want the book to end! I loved the characters, Fabian and Ofelia, so much. There are a couple of chapters where you’re holding your breath, and I can’t wait to read more books from this author. I highly recommend this dark romance.

Thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I ended up buying my own finished ebook copy, and I can’t wait for the next book.

A latin Romeo&Juliet retelling? please count me in!

Ofelia is a ballerina in a mexican private university, and she always has been a good girl, always the perfect daughter of a politician.

Fabián is dark, his dad is a criminal and has all his sons working for him.

when Ofelia and Fabián meet at a frat party, their connection is instant and it was perfect reading about their first impressions.

As the original story, their romance is fast paced and soon they know about their families rivality.

I won't explain the differences between the story we all know and this retelling because I think it's best if you read the book. It's a novella so it's a fast read, I think the author could have written a little bit more and we would be thrilled about it.

Starting off with a special thank you to Jade for the ARC!

This is a novella lengthened Romeo and Juliet Mexican retelling!

It was quite enjoyable for a quick read, as always, I am a fan of how Jade is able to incorporate our Mexican heritage into her novels.

Fabien and Ofilia are easy characters to root for and the plot isn't too skewed. Given its novella length, this book is meant to have a much faster pace than other books.

Despite this being an Anti-Hero Romance, there are serious topics discussed such as the Colorism and Racism that Mexico has. I appreciate Jade mentioning these themes because they often go undiscussed.

If you want a taste of something different but familiar at the same time, I encourage you to check this out!
