Do you feel like you're on the sidelines in God's grand design? Like there's a role waiting for you, but you just can't quite grasp it? Many of us long to make a meaningful impact with our lives, You Are Called shares how.
In You Are Called, John Bevere relies on a careful exploration of Scripture and uses powerful stories to help you think differently about your calling and why it’s so important to God. You'll unlock the secrets to living with purpose and passion! Inside you'll discover. . .
You are called by God as much as anyone is.God's grace empowers you for a destiny in life that's beyond your natural ability.Embrace your unique giftings and learn to operate in them for true effectiveness.Your calling is greater than your natural ability. The more impossible your challenges, the more God's grace will be manifested. The world needs what you your God-given gifts.Carefully and biblically, this book defines and portrays gifts, calling, and purpose, and how all these come together, by God's grace and guidance, to lead us faithfully on our life's unique calling. Quite surprisingly—and liberatingly—for many, John probes the teaching of Jesus to show us that faithfulness to our calling and purpose requires that we multiply our giftedness. This concept is clearly taught in a way that motivates readers to move beyond being a mere spectator in God's kingdom.
You Are Called is a spiritual enrichment guide expanding on Bevere's message in " Multiply Your God Given Potential." The book's content is filled with in-text interactive questions for personal reflection, self-evaluation, and strong personal engagement with what the Bible says about our gifts, our calling, our purpose, and our rewards.
Find your role, live your calling, make your mark! You Are Called empowers you to break free from inaction, aimlessness or wrong priorities—and to step into your true purpose with confidence.
Marked by boldness and passion, John Bevere delivers uncompromising truth through his award-winning curriculums and bestselling books, now in more than 60 languages, including "The Bait of Satan," "Drawing Near" and "Driven by Eternity." He is an international speaker and co-host of "The Messenger" TV program broadcast worldwide.
John enjoys living in Colorado Springs with his wife, Lisa, also a best-selling author and speaker, and their four sons.
In his latest book, You Are Called: Discover Your God-Given Talents to Fulfill Your Purpose, Pastor and author John Bevere helps readers understand that everyone has a divine purpose and calling and how to discern what that may be. He offers a biblical basis exploring one’s unique gifts, calling and purpose and how each of these work together to formulate their special, God-given calling. Each chapter ends with a few questions to help readers dig deeper. In a time when many people struggle to find their calling and purpose in their life, I found this book to be especially meaningful and insightful. It is one that I plan to go back and reference in the future. I really enjoyed reading many of John Bevere’s own personal stories and examples of God’s faithfulness and how he discovered his own purpose and giftedness.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Books for providing this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Sadly, Bevere is insufferable. Do you want solid, grounded, humble direction on finding and maximizing your spiritual gifts? Then this isn’t the book for you.
Do you want to hear about how he advised his rich friend to get richer and richer to “glorify God?” Do you want to hear about how God always talks to him and how confident he is of his spiritual gifts and choices? Do you want a sprinkling of Scripture barely holding together this autobiographical adventure into the “kingdom” successes of this man with a huge ego? Then this book is for you.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, run away from this “prosperity” nonsense and seek the true God of Scripture. John Bevere needs the Holy Spirit to truly touch his heart and let him know, “John, it’s not about you.”
I was expecting to get way more out of this and I don’t regret reading, it’s just not a topic that needed a whole book in my opinion. Some chapters and stories were fantastic, but some felt drawn out.
It did help me reframe my view of the world and if you are stewarding your gifts and resources well. Are you working within YOUR skills and not what you wish they were? God chose you for your role in the architecture, but he will call someone else if you don’t (ex: Abraham’s father). Fear will shut down your ability to multiply; the goal is bigger than salvation.
He also often makes God sound like a character when he “talks” to Him. He seems to “hear” God in full sentences and tone very frequently and to all of his points. So it makes me not really trust that “God said” that if it is not in the Bible.
I liked chapter 8! It’s about using already existing resources and talents around you to multiply to reach the nations. Before this chapter, it was lengthy, humble brags about his book sales with stat after stat to show perseverance. But this chapter showed the team effort of how to get more free resources to the nations, especially poor nations or where Christianity is illegal and it was super encouraging to hear and it reshaped my perspective of him and his ministry team’s impact for God. I have more confidence in him now haha.
In the book You Are Called, author John Bevere, writes about the calling that God has given to everyone. Bevere writes: Paul states in Ephesians 2:10 that we are His handiwork created for a specific purpose—to produce good works. To summarize, in these three verses combined (8, 9, and 10 in Ephesians 2), Paul in essence is saying: "We’re saved by grace to first be someone—a child of God—and we’re equally empowered by that same grace to do something." Bevere uses this for his bases that God has called us to do things for His Kingdom. It is then up to us to do what God has planned. I would recommend this book. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I won a copy of You Are Called by John Bevere in a Goodreads giveaway, so I decided to incorporate it into my daily devotions. I did like the book and its idea that God has given us all special abilities and gifts that we are to use to fulfill our purpose. Bevere gives examples from the Bible as well as from real life that illustrate this point. My particular favorite method in this book is when the author asks a question and then gives a list of Biblical references to illustrate or support the concept. The book, chapter, and verse are given, but it is up to the reader to look them up! I think that method makes the reader more cognizant of what is being read as well as simply familiarizing him with the Bible. I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to others.
After a lifetime of watching John Bevere's home run after home run clear the fence, I've adopted a pretty simple personal approach to the announcement of a new Bevere book: Find the pre-order button and select the pre-order button.
Now, with that being said, this book is a bit different from his other releases in that much of it is pulled from his other books, then combined with the closest thing he's gotten to writing memoirs of his ministry journey. I would still recommend this book to anyone digging into finding their God-given calling, just know that if you've read his other works, much of this content will sound familiar.
This book is a deep well of wisdom and was a pleasure to read. Rich in wisdom but not slow in reading. Whether you are new to the faith or been walking with Jesus since the 1900's there is something for you, and most importantly that God wants to do through you that will be stirred up when you read this! You could read this individually, in a small group, or buy it for you and a friend!
You Are CALLED - Although I still don’t know what my calling or purpose is, this was a semi-helpful book. I hope that other people are able to benefit from book. It is thoughtfully and kindly written.
