When I let myself into Matteo Volante's house uninvited, the fact that I've known him since I was a little girl didn't keep him from pinning me over his desk, wrenching my panties down, and spanking my bare ass bright red... and it didn't keep me from being soaking wet for him either.
But he's not my childhood best friend anymore.
He's a ruthless mafia boss who won't hesitate to take off his belt and teach me a lesson that will leave my bottom burning inside and out for even thinking about flirting with another man.
And he's going to make me his bride whether I agree to it or not.
Publisher's His to Honor is a stand-alone romance which is the fourth book of the Reluctant Vows series. It includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.
A fast paced Italian mafia romance. Guilia and Matteo are childhood friends. Their family always thought he would marry her. His Uncle is Don in New York and Italy. She is asked to go to Italy to bring Matteo back to the states. While there they have a romantic relationship and fall in love. There is steamy love scenes and some action between the different families. I didn’t like how abruptly it ended.
This is book #4 in Sassa Daniels’ Reluctant Vows Series. Each book is a standalone story of one of the brothers of the Volante Crime Family. I have to admit, while I did enjoy this one (flew right through it), I didn’t like it as much as I did the others. Why? Lack of Emotion…more on that later.
Giulia, the MFC, is a sweetheart who loves pleasing and helping people. It’s why she agreed to the marriage her father arranged to a much older man, only to find herself widowed on her wedding night. But she’s no pushover either. When she overhears her lifelong best friend (Matteo) at the funeral joining in on the crude comments about her instead of defending her she reads him the riot act and ends their friendship. With an inheritance from her deceased husband, she’s enjoying her independence and can pursue her dream of opening a center for Mafia Wives and children.
Six months later, Matteo, who took his sister to Italy, is involved in a tragedy while there which leaves him in turmoil and feelings of guilt. He refuses to come home until his head is straight. Giulia is working on readying her center and relishing her freedom believing she’s no longer a desirable pawn to seal deals or make alliances….as long as no one learns her marriage was never consummated. That is until Antonio, Matteo’s eldest brother and head of the family, shows up at her door. He orders her to go to Italy to talk to Matteo and bring him home. When she balks, insisting they’re not friends anymore and haven’t talked in months, he threatens to rescind his order to her father to leave her alone…worse, he threatens to shut down her center. So, she’s off to Italy and a not so welcome reunion with Matteo. And lack of communication or failure to speak the full truth leads to a lot of issues between them.
Now, back to the emotions…. which seemed to be lacking in this one. Especially with Matteo. Although the other brothers are supposed to be the hard, emotionless ones, more prone to violence, demanding and expecting to be obeyed, their emotional conflicts and struggles as they dealt with their women and family issues seemed more real. While Matteo, could be hard, capable of violence where their enemies were concerned, he was always the more jovial brother, the one who more easily showed affection, compassion and love to his mother, sister and other family members. Yet in this story, he seems to have lost that ability. And what little emotional struggle he does have with some of his actions are short lived and not believable … I just didn’t feel it. That’s not to say there was NO emotion in this one. Hers I felt. I felt her hurt when she overheard him. I felt her hurt at loosing her best friend. I felt her confusing and conflicting emotions as she struggled with his actions and her feelings; her love of him yet fearing she would be consumed and lose herself if she gave in to him. So not totally emotionless. Just not as good as the others. I don’t think Matteo struggled enough or as much as his brothers. So…4 stars for this one.
New author for me, si I never read the other stories in this series but I didn’t have a problem coming in middle-ish. Whole story was very entertaining, caught my attention and transported me to their world. Not technically an arranged marriage unless it’s with her first husband. Dominant and possessive Matteo, Giulia might have submissive side but she is full of sass, bossy but tender hearted.
Giulia (pronounce Julia) Costanza was force to wed some older guy work works in the Volante mafia, same day they wed, she became a widow. She never wanted to marry some guy who her dad sold her off to, she was hoping her best male friend since elementary school, Matteo ‘Matty’ Volante, 4th son in the family and younger brother of Antonio Volante, the head of the family. She was hoping Matty would save her from the marriage but she couldn’t man up, the day of her husband’s funeral she over heard some not so pleasant words coming from Matty’s mouth that turn their life ling friendship to be cut. For 6 months Giulia and not spoken to or heard about Matteo and she was building her dream of a community center/daycare for the women and kids of the men who serve in the Volante and the other allied families. Until the head and her father’s boss Antonio gives her an ultimatum, she goes to Italy and bring Matteo back home to New York or she can say her dream goodbye… aka blackmail, with no other choice she left to break a 6 months to get Matteo home even if she had to brag him home buy his cojones. She left as a single virgin but she’ll return very much the opposite to her dismay and angry, but why ??? What happened.?? Did she get her dream or was there obstacles with the subject at hand?
Mafia men are no doubt violent in their ways and, as this series has made abundantly clear, they are also very dominant and protective over their chosen mates. It is really unfortunate that they have very strange, and definitely not romantic, ways of showing that they actually care for/love them. Giulia has grown up in the mafia world and accepts her being married off to an older made man to improve her family’s ties and positions. Unfortunately (?) for her, her betrothed suffers cardiac arrest on her wedding night and she is instantly a widow. Skipping ahead, her long-time friend Matteo betrays Giulia and also annoys his brother Antonio, who just happens to be the head of their mafia family. When Antonio blackmails Giulia into going after and bringing Matteo back into the family fold the plot, and sub-plots, begin to thicken. A Giulia/Matteo romance develops, a threat to Matteo and/or Giulia surfaces, and mayhem prevails. Matteo does not handle the developments well and lets out his ridiculous caveman persona. His treatment of Giulia is asinine and she takes appropriate action. With all the family intricacies and interactions coming into play, this book becomes impossible to put down. How can things ever be truly resolved, and is an HEA even possible? An absolutely engrossing read that will annoy you, excite you, aggravate you, delight you then really test your patience with mafia men, all before coming to a conclusion that was forever in doubt. A truly fantastic read. 5 Stars
Giulia thought Matteo Volante was her friend. When she overheard what he said about her, their friendship was over. She didn’t need him. When Antonio comes asking for her to bring Matteo home from Italy, she can’t say no. Matteo is just trying to clear his head. An innocent died because of him, or was it? When he sees Giulia in his home, she stirs of feelings. These two were meant to be together. I get her being angry with what he said. He really should have stood up for her. And honestly, Matteo can’t read her mind. Yes, they should have gone with their heart but now they finally have that chance. Unfortunately, nothing is ever that easy. One unspoken issue and all heck breaks loose. I thought Matteo was great till then. He just didn’t think. Why not talk to Giulia, make her an equal. But nope, he screwed that up. I understand Giulia’s frustration and hurt feelings. The Volante men just have not learned to talk and listen. Thank goodness things got resolved. And what is the deal with Livvy and Piotr Reznov? I am never sure if they have a thing or not.

I really liked how strong and spunky Giulia was in the beginning. I loved how she immediately confronted Matteo when she overheard his comments about her, and how she used her independence to build a community center for wives and children. I even liked her as she submitted to Matteo’s overbearing ways in Italy. When he locked her in a cell and then threatened her family to force her to marry him, I cringed, but, since I am a sucker for an awesome grovel, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! Unfortunately, I feel like Giulia quickly lost her spirit, and Matteo didn’t have to put forth any real effort to win her back. I would’ve LOVED to see her accept the annulment (which was actually a great touch), and go on to achieve her own goals, and to make him pursue her as an equal, instead of seeing her fold as soon as he halfheartedly apologized. I am new to this author, and this was my first foray into this collection; I’ve already downloaded the rest of the gang’s stories, and can’t wait dive in!
I have been waiting for the next brother, in this case Matteo, to reluctantly fall to Cupid's arrow. This is a very emotional story as Matteo and Giulia move from a relationship of friendship to love and happy every after. Matteo is very easy to dislike because of how he treats Giulia as a friend, then lover and ultimately a husband. He is arrogant to the extreme. He will need a strong person to stand up to him. Giulia, quiet but strong, only takes so much of his attitude and actions and leaves him at the alter, as she should. The question becomes one of can he redeem himself and be the person Giulia grew up with or will his arrogance be his downfall? I loved Giulia's character. It was quite interesting to read this story that was a romance of two sides of the same coin. I was not sure who I was rooting for the most. A well written book with lots of moving parts. I enjoyed it very much.
His to Honor - book 4 in the Reluctant Vows series but it's the first book that I've read in it. After reading this book Ill definitely be buying the rest of the books.
Giulia (FMC) and Matteo have been friends for a long time but a harsh remark from Matteo severed that friendship between them. Having both been raised within the Mafia Family when a big boss asks you to do a job you do it. Giulia has little option but to accept it. Even if it means staying with Matteo in Italy to get him to return to New York. The sparks certainly fly between them.
I'm not really sure if Matteo was that remorseful for how he treated Giulia and he came across as slightly self-centred to begin with. Saying that though I loved Giulia gave as good as got in regards to Matteo's attitude. I did enjoy reading this book though and I'm curious about the rest of the book in this series now too.
A good read. We got to know Mattio from previous books. He's is the man that is NOT cut for Mafia's life. He doesn't want that life but fate continues to pull him back to that life nonetheless. We, also , knew Guilia from previous books. There was pity for her character and how she was sacrificed to appease her father's wishes. Here, Guilia is totally different. She's strong, knows what she wants and is not shy to fight for it, even if that means going to Italy to drag Mattio back to his family. Interesting story plot, lovable characters and highly recommended book.

This book had such potential the writing and the editing was good. The storyline started out good and could have been great but it just got silly. The dialogue and reactions to situations where childish and unrealistic. I also have a pet peeve that bugs the heck out of me. I don't mind an alpha male and a spanking but pulling someone's pants down and putting your fingers in their vagina is not spanking it's an assault. The response from the female is ridiculous. She was more upset about what he said than being assaulted.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Heat: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Darkness: 🤍🩶 Ending: HEA Epilogue: no
3.5 Stars: I enjoyed this book and will recommending it often. It may not be a personal all-time favorite, but it's a well written story. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star was the slow 🐌 storyline in the middle.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️- Frequent spicy and detailed scenes throughout. Deliciously naughty. Steamy. Obsessive. Kisses that can be felt for days. 🍑 play, D/s, 3D’s dark, delicious, and dirty.
Matteo had messed up whe it came to Giulia, butbwhen he goes off the rails and seeks solace in Itally Antonio sends her to get him, not knowing the consequences would put them on a path of either destruction or unite them? Well written, your gonna want to hate Matteo but will he redeem himself? Engaging steamy dark themes and a great addition to the series.

I loved Giulia and Matteo’s story… After Giulia’s new husband died on their wedding night, she’s subjected to hurtful whispers and snide comments at his funeral. Including from Matteo Volante who she considered a close friend. Her efforts to cut ties and move on with her life are cut short when she discovers exactly how little control she has over her life… I received a free copy of this book. Giulia was forced to marry an older mafia man but he died on their wedding day. She had been hoping to marry her friend Matteo but after she heard him saying unkind things about her at the funeral the friendship was finished. But then, she was asked to get Matteo to come home from Italy by the family head Antonio. Will they reconnect?
Another good book in the series.

This book seemed really short and had no epilogue. Bim bam boom they get married the end. Wish I could’ve given it a 4.5. Great story that could’ve been a little longer. Fitting addition to the other great books in the series.
I love Matteo❤️ in previous books he’s portrayed as a big scary mafia men and most of the time he is, but with Giulia he’s Matty. He was deeply in love with his best friend and she was with him. He was always there even when she didn’t believe he was.
Matteo and Giulias story has history and is long and complicated. Circumstances will force them to see each other in a new light, and things get really interesting, frustrating, hot, intense, and gripping!!!
Read all four books in the Reluctant Vows series so far. Love all the Volante men, typical dominating, possessive and protective mafia types with tender hearts for the women they love. Hope we get Gio and Livvy's stories, please
Gotta say, I liked this one the best so far! Matty is cute and Giulia is perfect for him. This series is great with awesome dominant male characters and sweet, yet strong women who are forced into marriage but end up falling head over heels for their men!
Love this book and it's series and would recommend it to anyone who loves to read about Mafia life and their families and friends 🧡 and the writer is awesome 👌
