HEAR MY SONG. I AM YOUR RECKONING.

Welcome to the Forgotten Lands
, a realm where Gods and Goddesses once waged brutal wars, their power shaping the very fabric of existence. Now, their names are whispered only in legends, and the land lies dormant, waiting for something—or someone—to stir its ancient magic.

Dove is no Goddess. No priestess. She is too human, too broken, too scarred to carry such a title. The only deity she knows is trapped in a forgotten cave; she and her people's only hope for salvation is locked in a song she can’t seem to get right.

But fate is never kind to those who hesitate. Before she can find the answers she so desperately seeks, death comes knocking, and with it, everything she knows is torn asunder.

Convicted of the highest crime, Dove is taken into the custody of the king’s most trusted warden: Gideon, an immortal shifter bound by his own mysterious oath. In his hands, Dove realises that surviving will no longer be enough. This is her reckoning. This is her fight—for her freedom, her people and the spark that lies dormant in her heart.

But to fight, she must first escape. She must flee her kingdom, leaving behind the only home she’s ever known. Can she survive beyond the walls of her sanctuary? With Prince Rivern of the Fae hot on her trail, marking her as his bonded—his unwilling mate—and a winged shadow creature haunting her dreams, Dove understands she may not be as alone as she thought. Perhaps this is not her battle to fight alone.

Where once Dove saw only despair, she now finds fury—and in that fury, strength. Strength in her vengeance. Strength in her rage. And strength in the arms of three irresistible protectors, each more powerful and seductive than the last. The fire of their love and loyalty will ignite a power that will shake the very foundations of the Forgotten Lands.

Her destiny is no longer about survival. It is about unleashing the fire within—and nothing will stop her.

Sing Me Awake kicks off the Bonded to the Gods trilogy, a steamy, fast-paced, why choose romantasy that will captivate fans of epic romances and fierce heroines. You can expect fated mates, adventure, heart-pounding tension, dragon allies, a world on the brink of chaos and a heroine who channels her rage into power. Sing Me Awake is perfect for fans of Blood and Ash, Broken Bonds, and just general dragon addicts. If you love tales where love is as dangerous as it is divine, this one’s for you.

First, I would just like to say - HELLLOOOO MR. WOLF MAN. I freaking loved Gideon!!

I also desperately need more of Fury, our fallen god bond. We don’t see too much of him until the end, but I’m already living for the banter between him and Dove!!

“𝙄 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙙𝙢𝙞𝙩, 𝙥𝙚𝙩, 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙝𝙪𝙜𝙚 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙤𝙣, 𝙨𝙤 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣.”

Still a little mad at the other bond, but he's a really pretty fae prince so I suppose I'll forgive him. 😂

"𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝘿𝙤𝙫𝙚, 𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙜𝙤, 𝙤𝙧 𝙄'𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛*𝙘𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙡, 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙙."

“Little Dove” and “Songbird” had me 🫠🫠🫠. LOVES IT. I also really enjoyed Dove’s character and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her personality!

With a new world and new terms it took me a few chapters to figure out what was going on, but once I did I was super into it! I also have a few questions, but I’m sure they’ll be answered in the next book(s)!

*** I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. ***

Well, I was excited about this. It had an interesting premise and pretty art, and I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. Unfortunately, it let me down.

I'm giving it two stars because it still had very nice art, an interesting premise and a possible promising storyline.

The biggest issue I had, was the editing, it needs another excellent edit. For example, seeing the word 'bravery' spelt like the Pokemon, kind of took me out of it—multiple times. Not only that, there was the entire book plot in a single sentence, which tells you how it's going to play out.

"A seed so small no one would see it coming until it burnt the world down, singing the goddess' song."

With such promising lines, it's a shame the book was such a massive letdown. The writing needed to be more concise, I understand staggering information can sometimes create intrigue, but this made the book rather unreadable at points. I wanted to DNF @ 25% but kept going.

Pros of this book:
- Pretty art.
- Interesting premise.
- The author likes to show and not tell everything.
- Mute FMC (But that doesn't last which is a shame).

The cons:
- The FMC is supposed to be 25 but she honestly sounds like a 16yro. (Her crush on Castor, the way she calls the wolf hers, talking about their d!cks, her loose friendship that's cast aside because she never actually talks to her friend so how would she know she's getting married? Or that she had a crush on the guy she met once? Seriously.)
- Dove went rogue way too quickly.
- Awful pacing. It felt randomised like the author couldn't decide when things would happen. It felt like multiple points were just finished off just to get to advance.
- Feels like it was written through tropes and not a plot.
- Dongs as big as a forearm. Ouch? Unnecessary?
- I could have gone my whole life without reading Moyrie’s chapter about her mounds. *shudder*.
- "Mini finger orgasms down my arm" <- An actual line from the book.
- I normally don't mind multiple plots but this was VERY messy, especially with how it's supposed to all tie together.
- ”Mute” FMC but she can talk like 10% into the book.
- "The pain I get from pleasure fills my core with cream every time." (pg. 229), not sure if awful editing or if it's supposed to be like that... But it's a solid NO from me.
- The pet names. Eesh.

I really wanted to enjoy this, because it sounded good, had promise and immediately dive-bombed as soon as I started reading.

I guess I'm just not the girlie this book is for, but thank you R.A. Raine and Haus of Fables PR for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Rounded up to 2 stars because I'm hoping through editing and some little fixes, this book can reach its potential.

A romance forward, why choose fantasy romance - Dove is our FMC with trauma and a desire to stand on her own. Enter Rivern, Gideon and Fury, the MMCs who are stealing her heart and taking over her world. Don’t try to choose favourites, our MMCs charm Dove in different ways and for different reasons. Welcome to a world with fae, shifters, gods and more.

3.25 ⭐️ (arc)

as the first book of the upcoming series it was really good! the magical world has it’s own system which was a little bit confusing at first with all the names to different things but once you get used to it, it stops bothering you. as a sucker for SLOW burn, this one was pretty fast paced which i surprisingly enjoyed for the most part but i felt like sometimes things were a little bit too rushed & it made little sense for it to go so fast.

i wish there was more of a back story to the fmc’s life “before” but i’m pretty sure we’ll get that in the next book. can’t wait to see what’s to come!

THIS BOOK! This book is freaking incredible! R.A. Raine I don't know what magic you got the magical wisps to cast on Sing me Awake but it worked because this Epic Romantasy is EVERYTHING! Definitely the #1 fantasy I have read this year!

This book follows the story of the strong FMC Dove as she finds love and her strength along with her bonded partners.
It takes you through the different lands with amazing Magical creatures including wisps, fae (one of which is a prince Dove is Fated too, Rivern 🫠) Dyre wolf Shifters! Que in the gorgeous Gideon 😍 and even gods! (That's where Fury comes in 😉) and we cannot forget Dragons!!!!! Every good fantasy needs dragons!!!

This incredible books brings you twists and turns throughout, a slow burn angst and cannot get enough of, along with incredible characters you cannot help but to fall for, some you even hate to fall for, and you get watch Dove grow from a servant girl being walked all over into a strong bada$s.
I absolutely could not get enough of this book, and I cannot wait for Sing me Free to release.

But for now trust me when I say you need this in your life!

Sing Me Awake by R.A. Raine

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ rounded up to 4⭐️s
Spice: 🌶️ (nothing yet but it seems to be building for future books)

For R.A. Raine’d debut novel, this is a good start to a series with a ton of potential. This book had the MOST STUNNING character art in any ebook I’ve seen to date, much less a pre-published copy.

I really enjoyed the world building in this book and the unique terms (turns = days, rotation = years, etc.). There is a lull towards the middle of the book which made the pacing feel a little erratic. I did have quite a few unanswered questions but I assume we’ll get some answers over the next two books.

So far my favorite male is Fury because of the dark, morally grey aura around him. Gideon is in second place with Rivern in third due to a certain chapter.

Read this if you like:
💜 why choose
💜 fated/bonded mates
💜 Multi POVs
💜a world full of fae, wolf shifters, daemons, Gods, and other magical creatures

Okay. This is a REALLY solid debut, and there is definitely a wide audience for this. I personally don't think I am the target for this (I do not like my men giant and brooding) but I am interested enough to continue on with this series regardless!

I could tell the author adored these characters, especially Dove, but I was often left with the feeling that R.A. Raine had forgotten to share everything about Dove with us. Her character development felt rushed at times, as she outgrew safety mechanisms her body and mind had put in place for 14 years or more. At times, wording felt off and too modern, another edit would have been lovely but I understand that costs money that a indie author may not have access too.

Regardless, passion bursts from each word in this book. I am thrilled to follow R.A. Raine in her journey, because I am 100% sure that one day I'll be getting a 5 star book out of her.

This was such a solid start to a serious I can see myself falling in love with!! Convicted of a heinous crime, seemingly average human Dove escapes from her kingdom after many years of silence and servitude and sets out on a mission to save her Kingdom from starvation with help from a mysterious direwolf shifter and a Fae Prince who she has a mysterious connection with.

This book is a super fun why choose fantasy romance with three leading men! Our MMCs are Rivern, a fae prince set on hunting Dove down due to their mysterious connection, Gideon, a quiet and serious direwolf shifter forced to hunt Dove down, and Fury a mysterious and morally grey powerhouse. Dove starts off as quite a frail, powerless character but quickly develops into a fierce heroin set on her path. Rivern is definitely my fave lead so far, there is something about a big fae man that just hits correctly. The plot is fast paced and interesting with some high stakes so I look forward to seeing what happens next!

I do wish this book was a bit more slower paced to allow for more believable character and relationship development, at times things felt quite rushed and sudden without a proper build up. For example, Rivern went from set on killing our FMC to fully in love in what seemed like no time which left me with a bit of whiplash, and our FMC Dove starts the books as mute which only lasts for the first few chapters and is quickly left in the past. I am hopeful that future books will build on the relationships a bit slower, and allow for more in-depth character development as the plot unfolds. Despite these concerns I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to pick the next one up!

2.5 I think this book has potential but tries to mash too many concepts into one book. spoilers.

This book could benefit from an edit. It can be choppy and jump scenes hard enough to give you whiplash. Especially between so many different characters it could use some fine tuning. Now, I like the concepts here; fated mates, prophecy, warring gods, dragons etc. I can get down on all of these but they are smashed together and at times did not flow well at all. We also don't get one clearly being flushed out in any real way because we have so many storylines.

As for the fated mates. I am going to be honest right now. Rivern sleeping with Moyra. That makes him ineligible for me to ever like him again. He made that choice, after having all the cards on the table and that is a no go for me. Yes, you have a kingdom....but you slept with her and broke your mates heart (she doesn't know but the bond had the pain of it) while she was sleeping in your house!

The other issue with the jumping story and a million tropes is we don't get to know these characters even when given the opportunity. We had a whole journey with one horse trope and we sped through it in 3 chapters and we get the boring details but none of the tension or real connection. That's when we should have fallen in love with the fae prince, and all we really got out of it was the sort of make out scene at the water.

The separation of male main characters also brings up a massive pet peeve of mine. Writing a Reverse Harem as a traditional MF. The scenes just seem like we could have cut Gideon and Fury and been exactly at the same spot at the end. Gideon could be a guard, and Fury still have a bond but as a pact and we still have the bond with Rivern. Nothing about the way it was done says RH except she thinks about dick sizes.

Then we get Fury thrown into the mix, a dragon familiar (intimate), a curse of gods and a new bond all at the end of the book when we already were struggling to handle the plot before that.

I just wish this had been flushed out more or had more clarity. Now before you say "It's book one, they are all like that!" I will challenge and say it is okay to have undeveloped storylines in book one, but having this many layers in book one without any idea what's next becomes confusing and tedious not world altering good writing.

I wish you the best in your read, it just was not for me.

This is a beautifully crafted novel that captures the essence of human (fae/god/shifter) connection that had me hooked from the very first page!

The world-building is so immersive, and the characters are incredibly well-developed, each carrying their own struggles and joys, and Raine writes them with such care that they feel like people you know. Their journeys are compelling, full of hope and heartbreak, and their growth is as inspiring as it is relatable. Dove's journey is both heart-wrenching and empowering and the dynamics with Rivern, Gideon and Fury are intense and captivating. The blend of fantasy elements—fae, shifters, gods, and dragons—creates a rich tapestry that fantasy lovers will adore. The pacing is spot-on, with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I did struggle slightly with the use of different words for periods of time (eg: turns=days) but once I wrapped my head around that, it flowed well.

The story is raw, tender and filled with moments that make you pause and reflect on what truly matters. Every chapter pulls you further into the world of the story, where love, loss, and healing come together in ways that feel authentic and satisfying. This is a novel that will touch your heart and remind you of the beauty in life’s imperfections. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone who loves stories about resilience and the bonds that hold us together.

I laughed, I cried and I desperately need the next book in the series! If you're into romantasy with depth and emotion, this is a must-read.

Thank you to RA Raine and Haus of Fables for the opportunity to read the ARC copy.

Sing Me Awake is a beautifully written, emotionally rich start to the Bonded to the Gods trilogy. I was instantly pulled in by the lush worldbuilding and the quiet strength of Dove, a heroine who’s both relatable and layered. The story balances action, romance, and inner struggle in a way that feels grounded even in a world filled with ancient magic, immortal shifters, and forgotten gods.

I loved the mental health representation and how Dove’s personal growth is just as central as the romance and adventure. It’s a slow burn in some ways, but when it gets going, it really gets going. The mix of tension, heart, and high stakes kept me turning pages late into the night.

It loses a star only because there were a few moments where the pacing dipped or I wanted a bit more clarity on the lore, but overall, a gripping and emotional fantasy with real depth. Can’t wait for book two!

Dove is a fierce FMC that has just enough feminine rage and once she finds her voice, she is not afraid to speak her mind.

The world building was seamless especially thanks to the help of the into pages with the glossary and don’t even get me started on the GORGEOUS artwork throughout this book!

It ends on kind of a cliffhanger, with just enough information to get you excited and curious for book 2 - which I cannot wait to read!

"She kneels at my feet until I drop down to my knees in front of her because no queen of mine will ever kneel for me"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟

Hello, yes, I'd like to report a theft.
My heart has been stolen by one fae prince by the name of Rivern (we're ignoring that one chapter - your girl's in denial)

Sing Me Awake gets right into the action, and doesn't miss a beat at all.
Typical world building for a couple of chapters to help you get into the swing of things; it was relatively straightforward and easy to follow, which I love.

I loved this debut for R.A Raine and as a fellow Australian, I'm so keen to see where this goes, and I'm excited for Sing Me Free!

Thanks R.A Raine and Tales n Teacups for the opportunity to read this eARC.

This girl has not one but three men she’s inexplicably drawn to...
1. A fae prince who is bonded to her
2. A wolf shifter tasked with hunting her down
3. A banished god who needs her help

A great fast paced, why choose, romantasy. As a first book in a trilogy there’s still a lot of unanswered questions but this debut did a great job at grabbing my attention and making me want more.

Pros
- A glossary!
- Fast paced
- ALL the magical creatures

Cons
- The use of the phrase “tummy”
- The fmc starting out as “mute” but then talks a lot after the first 20% of the book

3.5 rounded up to 4.

This book has so much potential to be GREAT but I hate to say I think it could use a strong edit. There is so much going on right from the very start.
I loved the idea of the plot but I felt the actualization of it felt a little rushed and a little all over the place. I found myself losing track and have to piece together information in the first 50% of the book. I felt there could have been a stronger backstory established and more thorough world building before all the events that occurred.

The positives
- GIDEON, the man that you are. Immediately loved him.
- The plot of a “chosen one” that can help bring life back to the land while taking down the king? Loved it. Girl power!
- Dragons, intimates, all sorts of magic. Love to see it. Very interesting.
- The ✨tension✨ was 👌🏻

I think the last 20-30% of the book was my favourite. Fury? Hello I love him.

There’s just so much going on and I think it would have been beneficial to save some of it for future instalments in the series.

*Thank you to Haus of Fables for providing a digital copy to review*

This book has many things I love - fated mates, fae, a world with gods and goddesses - but unfortunately, it just didn’t hit it for me.

The main issue I had was with the FMC. She starts off the books as being mute but somehow miraculously is able to overcome it and then talk to everyone she meets. She just felt very immature and acted like a horny teenager whenever she encountered a man. I was also very confused with the voices/personas she communicates with, are they her own creation or something else? It wasn’t made clear.

It’s described as a why choose romantasy but for me only relationship that made sense was the one with Rivern, her fated mate. The others felt forced and having a mated bond be created kind of made it feel like it wasn’t this special and rare thing.

I liked having the illustrations, especially when I had trouble picturing some characters and appreciated the illustrated timeline at the beginning of the book.

I did enjoy it overall and liked how the world was not something that I had read before in a book.

This book was a complete knock out, it had all my favourite tropes, reluctant mates, forced proximity, pining, why choose and a cheeky bit of spice.
Not only it's the world building and storyline super intriguing but the characters feel so much more genuine and you can relate to why they are doing what they do. I truly was captivated from the second I looked at the cover and had this saucy little book finished in a day. I can't wait for more of this story and more of these delicious men all obsessed with our dove.

"Sing Me Awake" is a captivating debut into the "Bonded to the Gods" series, offering readers a rich tapestry of fantasy, romance, and a touch of the divine.

Dove, is a remarkably relatable FMC, she is thrust into an extraordinary world brimming with ancient magic and creeping despair.

Dove is not your typical heroine, she lacks the celestial powers of a goddess or the devoutness of a priestess. Instead, she embodies the struggles of humanity, broken, scarred, and flesh-and-blood. This makes her character extremely relatable and by the time I’d finished the book I was totally emotionally invest in her quest.

In a world where gods once wielded extraordinary powers, the story unfolds in the Forgotten Lands, where ancient magic lies dormant, awaiting the right spark to revive it. Enter Gideon, an immortal shifter bound by a mysterious oath. With him, Dove realizes that mere survival is insufficient, she must confront her reckoning, a fight for her freedom, her people, and the dormant spark within her heart.

The author’s storytelling is immersive, painting a vivid landscape filled with fated mates, dragon allies, and a world teetering on the brink of chaos. The pacing is well balanced, shifting seamlessly between tension filled moments and quieter reflections that add depth to the characters.

The romance element is skillfully woven into the plot without overshadowing the central storyline. As Dove navigates her turmoil, her interactions with Gideon create a deliciously complex dynamic, where love becomes as dangerous as it is divine. The "why choose" aspect promises tantalizing choices that kept me on the edge of my seat. 🥵

Beyond the engaging plot, "Sing Me Awake" also tackles mental health representation, grounding the fantasy in real world issues while celebrating the strength found in vulnerability.

Overall, "Sing Me Awake" is a beautifully crafted story that deftly blends elements of fantasy and romance, that left me eager for more.
R.A. Raine has a gift for storytelling, and this book is a captivating introduction to what promises to be an enchanting trilogy.

Those seeking tales where love entwines with adventure, and powerful heroines channel their rage into strength will find a delightful read in this offering.

Long ago, the Gods ruled the lands, but soon they waged war on one another. Their very magic shaped the very fabric of the lands. Now, they are nothing but whispers in old tales. They sit, waiting for the one to awaken the magic across the land.

Dove has lived in the kingdom of Haven her entire life. After her family died, she sought refuge at the temple, only to become their slave. Years have passed, and she has chosen to stay mute, even though she can speak perfectly well. Talk less, smile more. Day in, day out.Due to her traumatic past, she copes by communicating with several voices in her head. Her only solace is praying to the Goddess, and her only hope and salvation for her and her people is written in a song that she can't figure out. When accused of murder, Dove is taken into the king's custody while awaiting her punishment by his most trusted warden: an immortal dyre wolf shifter named Gideon. She learns what is happening in her homeland, and the lies told from those in charge. Now, she chooses to fight for her freedom and for her people, igniting her heart.

Little to her knowledge, Rivern, a Prince Fae from Terra, has followed the magical thread that connects and bonds them to each other. With her life on the line, Dove makes a deal with Rivern and agrees to go with him if he helps her in her quest to save her land and the humans who reside in them. At night, a winged shadowed creature haunts her dreams. What could go wrong? Everything Dove has known changes overnight, and challenges everything she believes in her heart.

In R.A. Raine's Sing Me Awake, I enjoyed the different perspectives from the characters and how they saw the events unfold. There is a lot of world building, lore, and some terminology you must acquaint yourself with as you read. Honestly, her dynamic with her was enjoyable to read. The little pet names they give her, and the one liners will have you falling for them. As you read, you can't help but empathize with Dove and her journey throughout this book. Everyone has felt helpless, but there is a fire within us waiting to burst open.

The fantasy elements woven into a tapestry of twists, turns, a compelling plot, and dynamic characters with depth and emotion will have you waiting to see what is next in this story.

Sing Me Awake by R.A. Raine is an immersive and emotionally charged start to the Bonded to the Gods trilogy. With its lush world-building, a fiercely determined heroine, and a sizzling slow-burn romance, this book delivers a compelling blend of fantasy, action, and heart.

Dove is a heroine you can’t help but root for—scarred and broken by her past, yet fiercely resilient. Her journey is one of survival and transformation, and as she grapples with her mysterious connection to the ancient magic of the Forgotten Lands, she emerges as a force to be reckoned with. Her emotional depth and vulnerability make her incredibly relatable, while her growing strength and fury are nothing short of inspiring.

The romance elements are both steamy and heartfelt, with Dove’s connection to her three protectors adding layers of tension and complexity to the story. Each protector is unique and captivating, and their chemistry with Dove is electric, making the romantic arc one of the highlights of the book. Raine strikes a great balance between passion and emotional depth, ensuring that the relationships feel genuine and impactful.

The world-building in Sing Me Awake is beautifully detailed, transporting readers to the mystical Forgotten Lands where ancient magic lies dormant and whispers of gods and goddesses linger. The integration of fae politics, shifter lore, and forgotten deities adds richness and intrigue to the narrative. However, some aspects of the lore feel underexplored, leaving a few questions unanswered as the story races forward.

The pacing is fast and action-packed, keeping readers on their toes with twists, betrayals, and high-stakes battles. At times, the rapid pace can feel overwhelming, with certain plot points or character dynamics deserving more time to fully develop. Despite this, the story’s intensity and emotional pull ensure that it remains engaging throughout.

Overall, Sing Me Awake is a fantastic entry into the romantasy genre, combining steamy romance, fierce battles, and an empowering story of self-discovery. Perfect for fans of why-choose romances and epic fantasy worlds, this book will leave readers eager for the next installment.

This book opens the Bonded to the Gods series. A ”why choose” kinda romantasy, with Dove (the FMC) finding herself entangled with a fae, a god and a shapeshifter (not necessarily in that order) as she escapes her former, miserabe life as an ignored and shunned servant in a temple.

The overall story is intriguing, entertaining and I will definitely want to read more about Dove, Rivern, Gideon and Fury. The ending of this first part of the series did leave me wanting to know more!

I really liked some of the details the author had included in the world building. I like the idea of intimates (like a witch with their familiar) and I loved how differently the concept of time was dealt with. The author hadn’t taken the easy way out by using terminology from our world, hence not talking about ”time”, ”year”, ”month” etc. In a dual sun system the concepts tied to our solar system would perhaps not fit as well. And don’t worry, the author explains these in a glossary at the beginning of the book, so you’ll get the hang of it quickly.

Dove is a character with a troubled past. She’s managed to survive in ghastly conditions and her inner world is full of voices that help her deal with her life in a kingdom that is rapidly turning barren for some reason. Her feelings about her past and even her sense of frustration at the inequalities of life are described quite well, but when it comes to the males in her life, I’m a bit at loss as to what is going on in her head.

I mean, the dyre wolf is an immortal, threatening being, a guard of the king she despises - yet he only needs to grab her once and he’s ”her wolf”? These kinds of ”shortcuts” felt like the motivation behind the actions was left unclear.

Having said this, I still have to say I was very well entertained, the vibes were vibing and even though I can’t mark it as such, it’s a solid 3,5⭐️ from me. And I’m definitely going to want to see how the story unfurls.

Read this if you like
- mysterious prophesies and creation myths
- gods meddling with people
- slow burn and forced proximity
- fae, gods, shapeshifters
- bonded mates
- why choose

I was kindly given a free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

🐲🪽🪻ARC REVIEW: Sing Me Awake by R. A. Raine 🪻🪽🐲

⭐️ 3.9

Do you love epic fantasy, but wish it was fast-paced and contained more romance? I've found the book for you!

As book 1 in a new trilogy, SMA introduces the reader slowly to both the characters and the world building in an easy-to-read fashion. If you ever get stuck, there's a double-paged map, a glossary and a historical timeline to help.

The history of this world and planet is fascinating - gods creating creatures out of bordem, those creatures going to war, the gods turning on each other, interfering with their creatures' fates - it's all very dramatic and a clever starting point for the plot.

Speaking of, when the plot kicks in, it's like a record-scratch - suddenly everything starts to pick up pace and the action begins. The ambiguity of that moment is slowly unravelled over time and the reveal is worth the wait.

I really love how this story feels fresh yet contains so many beloved species and tropes. The equal attention paid to character development, romances and plot struck a great balance that left me unable to put the book down. I haven't read anything this quickly in a long time.

The developing why-choose romances so far create a realistic confusion and sense of divided loyalties for our FMC Dove. Each LI has their own distinct personality and connection with Dove, so you're bound to like at least 1. Personally, I'm struggling to choose a favourite.

The best part/characters have to be the intimates - winged creature familiars / sentient animal companions. Their mental voices are so snarky and sarcastic, especially Solen.

Overall, I'm really excited to see where the greater plot goes (especially after that cliffhanger ending!) and how these relashionships develop, especially how the MMCs interact with each other going forward. It's bound to get messy, and I'm here for it. Dove is really coming into her own by the end, yet there are still so many mysteries surrounding her. Bring on book 2!

"Sing Me Awake" is an exceptional debut novel that captivated me from start to finish. I found myself completely engrossed, finishing the book in just two days, and kicking off my reading challenge for 2025. This story beautifully incorporates several of my favorite tropes, including Fated Mates, Grumpy Sunshine, The Chosen One, The Quest, and The Reluctant Hero, each woven intricately into the narrative.

The plot centers around Dove, a mute-by-choice servant girl who lives in a kingdom plagued by corruption, ruled by a self-serving priestesses and King. The stark and oppressive atmosphere of the dying kingdom sets the stage for Dove's heartbreaking journey. After a devastating event alters the course of her life (which I will leave undisclosed to avoid spoilers), she finds herself captured by Dyre Wolf (also known as Gideon), the ruthlessly cunning guard to the King and his spoilt son, Prince Castor. At the same time, a Fae prince named Rivern is on her trail, motivated by his own agenda of honor and heart. What follows is a tense and action-packed sequence as Dove’s imprisonment is unexpectedly cut short as Rivern aids daring escape, with the support of Gideon. The initial dynamics between these three characters add depth to the story as they embark on a quest that not only aims to save their own lives but also to rescue both the human and Fae kingdoms from impending doom.

If you’re a fan of slow-burn romances complemented by a rich high-fantasy backdrop, then "Sing Me Awake" is a must-read. The characters are both relatable and irresistible, each with their unique traits that contribute to the story's charm. The pacing is expertly handled—building tension and intrigue that keeps you eagerly turning the pages, wanting to uncover what happens next. This novel leaves a lasting impression and will undoubtedly appeal to those who appreciate immersive storytelling and complex character relationships.

This book needs a rewrite and some character redos. It had potential. But as someone else said, a 25 year old FML acts like a stupid fucking 16 yr old. I agree with another commenter when they said, "- The FMC is supposed to be 25 but she honestly sounds like a 16yro.
It felt like multiple points were just finished off just to get to advance.". I got brain rot from reading these characters. The FML starts as weak and mute, essentially a slave. But then wants to kill the king like she has the power to and makes really dumb decsions. So do the male leads cuz wym you posessed her body and killed someone, like she wouldnt get killed for that too when u need her alive? One ML talks about wanting to kill her and then not, and then wanting to be with her but he cant but he will but he wont. Other male lead didnt even male lead yet. Fury is gross af. And shes gross af too from being a captive to moaning for him. Shes not even concerned about cheating on her mate. The plot ane characters are so messy i have no idea whats going on. 0 spice. 0 romance. 0 passion. 0 tension. But it has pretty art ill give it that. Really hated how she was mute at the start with no explanation but she can suddenly talk when she meets the male leads with 0 trouble over coming it like she could always talk. Not to mention the characters had no depth. And one male lead has been visiting her as a "dream" since she was 5 and when they meet in person he blackmails and threatens her into mating him. Grooming ass behavior

This book was one I wanted to enjoy but just couldn’t. I couldn’t even get halfway through before the poor writing became too much.

When our FMC, Dove, first meets the fae MMC, Rivern, we get a lot of glossed over information that Dove merely thinks about after the fact. This would’ve been better as a conversation on the page. The interaction is kind of jarring too. Dove seems to just accept what she’s told without asking any questions and Rivern seems to completely change his personality and goals. Everything feels rushed.

Dove’s personality takes a sharp turn the second she meets Rivern and Gideon. It’s incongruous and jarring. It doesn’t feel like a natural progression. None of the characters actually seem to have defined personalities, they change on a whim but not in a natural way.

Some of the phrasing, word choices, and sentence structures are quite bad. The lack of contractions is a particular pet peeve of mine. Granted it is suited to this book since it has a historic feel, at least in terms of world building (the little of that there is).

Everything between the MCs happens too quickly and they’re all so blasé. Part of the reason I’m so against fated/bonded mates is the lack of work an author puts into relationship building and simply relies on the bond. It’s lazy writing. The MCs all act as if they’ve known each other for years as opposed to minutes and that’s just bad writing.

The plot just sort of moves from point to point without much thought or incentive. It doesn’t feel like storytelling but more like bullet points. Certain concepts are introduced without explanation and make it hard to follow the (somewhat lacking) plot.

There’s very little action in the first 40% of the book and what action there is, is completely glossed over and done with in a matter of sentences. There’s no tension building, or growth of information leading to decisions and actions.

R.A. Raine's incredible debut of her why-choose, fantasy/romance, Sing Me Awake completely swept me away.

Our MFC, Dove, is an incredibly resilient human, used and abused her entire life, having nowhere to turn and everything soft in her life ripped away. Until one violent fateful night, her entire life takes an unexpected turn, and she's thrust into a new world and situations beyond her wildest fantasies.

Captured by a compelling and complex wolf, bonded to a Fae Prince and going up against other god-like enemies who may not be what they appear, we are taken on an exhilarating ride as Dove navigates conflicting feelings, impossible choices and desires that consume her.

I really love what Bec has created in this world, and even though the first couple of chapters do take a little bit to work out what's happening as the world builds around you, once it clicks, it's a hell of a ride. Fast-paced and action-packed is just the beginning.

There is something for all Romantasy readers here, with magical creatures, the chosen one, gruff but respectful MMCs, a particular scene that will make you throw your book at a wall, and a plot thick with intrigue and mystery.

Although it's a why-choose, there is little to no spice in this first instalment, which is actually really refreshing. This allows the slow burn to heat up in a way that will be immensely satisfying in later books, and although there is insta-lust, it's not acted on (well... not completely) and works best for the narrative.

If you want:

🎶 forced proximity
🎶 why choose
🎶 magically bonded
🎶 touch her and die
🎶 the chosen one
🎶 magical & mythical creatures
🎶 slow burn (with Insta-lust)
🎶 mystery and intrigue

then you should absolutely check this one out!

Thanks to haus.of.fables_pr for the opportunity to read this book prior to the official publishing date.
