Brawlhalla Tales: Nix

Rate this book
Welcome to Brawlhalla! In this first-ever graphic novel based on the epic fighting game, follow Nix, a freelance reaper for the underworld, on a fight-filled action adventure into the warrior’s paradise of Valhalla.

Nix, a freelance angel of death and the finest reaper of the Underworld, misses her mark at the hands of a rogue Valkyrie – and she never misses! She travels across the nine realms to Valhalla to reclaim her bounty, but the afterworld is not as she expected. Nix discovers strange enemies, stranger friends, and tougher fights than she ever imagined. Now begrudgingly teamed up with an unlikely partner, Nix will need to win Odin’s tournament of heroes if she wants to keep her job and, more importantly, her soul.

A fun, action packed graphic novel that will delight both longtime fans and newcomers alike, immersing them in the vibrant world of Brawlhalla, uniquely brought to life in a comic book format for the first time by the creators of the game. With writing and narrative guidance from Brawlhalla co-creator Matt Woomer, art by game Illustrator R.J. Jost, this is a legendary story you won't want to miss.

Fantastic comic! Brawlhalla has such great characters and lore and to finally see them do something like this with it was something really special. Every page is full of care for the series and characters, references are everywhere to a point where it feels like all the characters are probably brought up whether directly or indirectly. And a lot of the fights have the characters using their actual moves in the game! In fact, I feel like even the normal attacks work exactly how they do in the game—I've never seen something like that before on this level. And it works on two levels, a fun nod to the games but some moves are given some context in the comic that add to the attacks in game. I won't be able to look at Nix's scythe up special or Cross's double directing gun attack the same ever again.

On top of all that, the art is fantastic. You can't go a page without there being an awesome and hilarious facial expression—which a lot of the times are references to emotes in the game! But so many more are brand new and I kind of just want to have a folder on my phone that I can post them in convos online 😅

I want more of this, so bad. Let's get a monthly comic series going! Go beyond that and get a show or movie made! Brawlhalla's characters are all so special and fun this comic is the tip of the iceberg of what could come from more stories in other mediums. I really hope there's more on the way!

About what you'd expect from a video game comic. Nix is a grim reaper trying to get out of the deal she made with a demon and teams up with a Valkyrie to fight in a tournament.
