Kingverse Orcs #2

Summoning the Orc: A Fated Mates Monster Romance (The Kingverse Orcs Book 2)

Rate this book
Is accidentally summoning a hot monster at work a fireable offense? Asking for a friend…

Becca loved books about women finding their fated mates. But since she was stuck in the real world, she figured she’d just have to focus her attention on being the best enchanted tomes librarian anyone had ever seen. It would’ve worked, too. If only she hadn’t accidentally pulled an orc through a magical portal and changed everything…

As chief of a clan of one, Rok worried he’d never have a family of his own. Then she summoned him. All it took was one look at the beautiful Becca and he knew she was his. So, navigating a strange world while wooing a human woman who doesn’t speak his language shouldn’t be too hard…right?

When the witches of the tome threaten to send him back to his own realm, will Becca and Rok decide their potential happily ever after is worth fighting for?

Guess there’s only one way to find out…

Summoning the Orc, book 2 in the Kingverse Orc series, is a light, spicy, forced proximity monster romance that can be read as a standalone. Download today and welcome to romantasy at its finest.

I need to find a magical mate summoning book ASAP or I’m gonna be kicked out of the feminism club for too much yearning for men.

I enjoyed this a lot! The language barrier was really cute at first and it was funny to read about the MMC stumbling his way around the modern world. With a giant axe. That he kept wanting to use. Literal meaning and pun intended.

This was a new-to-me author and I liked the story a lot! Cinnamon roll orc transported to a different plane where he finds his human fated mate? What’s not to like about that? I do think given how light and sweet it was, other friends might also enjoy.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and both are experienced I believe (I don’t recall any mention of the h’s experience but it does mention very briefly that the H had been with others - which actually bothered me since he felt so much longing for finding his mate, this would have been a good scenario for him to have been inexperienced).

Some tropes/themes:
☆ Fated mates
☆ Magical summoning
☆ Fish out of water for the MMC
☆ Curvy FMC
☆ Language barrier
☆ Mating rituals and instincts
☆ Found family/clan building
☆ FMC was always intrigued by orcs
☆ MMC not afraid to show emotion

Rok (H) is precious and all alone on his lands after his whole clan was wiped out by illness. He dreams of finding his fated mate but hasn’t been successful yet. Becca’s (h) best friend is recently mated to an orc and Becca’s considered part of his clan so has moved her into their building. She’s gotten her dream job nearby working with magical books at a library. On her first day of work, she’s drawn to an open text and she summons a giant orc by mistake. Chaos ensues as the orc doesn’t speak the common language of Becca’s world so he can’t understand her as he grabs her and runs. Thankfully, Becca’s able to call for help, bringing her bestie and her mate to speak Orcish.

Naturally, this is Rok and they’re fated mates. There is an insta-connection and some major insta-lust that occurs, however the story also builds on them getting to know each other the best they can while having to rely on translation assistance at first. Rok is overwhelmed by all the things that are bizarre in Becca’s world, however he doesn’t mind because his mate is beautiful and wonderful. The devotion was perfect. Becca had felt longing for something as well and I loved that she is open to Rok (though she does worry that they’re going to be separated at some point because of him being from a different plane).

I laughed a lot at Rok learning and thankfully he’s like a sponge and very observant of his surroundings. He’s also ready to provide for his mate in whatever way he can from some of the wealth that he carries on him to needing to figure out hunting. I adored him. Becca was also likable, she just was a smidge below Rok. Both have fleshed out backgrounds and personalities. Becca having always felt a draw to orcs was interesting given that her fated mate was one. They don’t wait long to start getting frisky either, that draw to your mate made it hard to hold out. Lots of spicy scenes in the book (almost too many I’d say, I was skimming by the end).

The main conflict lies in the danger of Rok being forced back to his plane. Becca has her clan behind them and the side characters are wonderful. Her best friend and her mate were book 1 that I didn’t read and was fine understanding this one. The next book is going to be another clan member and a character introduced in this story. I don’t want to spoil what happens, but some issues come about and plotting has to occur to solve things so that Becca and Rok can get their HEA. No worries, they do and it’s all the sweetness, plus setting up for more of the series.

As much fun as I had reading this story, there were typos here and there. Sometimes Rok would break character and use terminology that didn’t fit where he was coming from. For example, he describes clear barriers leading to the outside that are brittle and easy to break and then a few sentences later, he thinks the word “window”, which he shouldn’t have known. A couple instances like that threw me out of the flow a bit. This was still such an adorably light read that hit the spot for a bit of fantasy and fated mates.

This book was so fun and dare I say, better than book one? I think it was the language barrier and forced proximity that got me! Rok was swoony and obsessed with Becca in the best way possible! And Becca is quirky, sweet, and so loyal to her friends and her mate! So so good! This will be on my re-read list!

Rok and Becca are such adorable and sweet mates!! The way he falls in love with the sound of her vocie before he can even understand her language <3 And once they can communicate, they have so much fun and spend time laughing together! <3
These two made my heart melt! I must mention, they will also have you sweating from all the hert between them 🔥
Saam is a goddess at all things sweet and spicy. She's an auto-buy author for me and I highly recommend this series and all of her books!
P.S. thanks for the recipe at the end!

A tasty Ancient Orc in a modern world with an adorable plus-sized bookworm? Yes please. I absolutely loved this one; I love this series. I wasn't expecting any "old fashioned" orc's to be in any of these books because the last one was so modern, but there's portals and wizards and witches and Orc's, oh my! Lol. I really, really love this couple and the spice started early on and was phenomenal (nothing kinky but very good.) I however have a new favorite. I absolutely loved Zara at the end. You'll see, but she's hilarious. This is a bit of a romcom as the MMC can't fathom modern technology yet somehow magically knows how to use the toilet 🤔. There was some minor editing issues, like a sentence and reactions being repeated. That happened a few times, but I can't remember which parts specifically, just that one would say something and the other would be surprised, and then they would repeat it again later in the book.
Aside from that, this book was great, and once again, I'm head over heals in love with this artwork. Plus! Bonus! There's a sneak peak at the end to the next one, and we get a recipe for the MMC's dessert that he makes in the book. Thank you author 👏🏽

I’m rating books based on world-building, plot, character development, and overall vibes—and for this one, I’m landing at a solid 3.5.

This is actually the second book in the series, but it was my first read, and I had no trouble picking up the world system. It was an easy, enjoyable read.

Overall? This book is cute. And I love a cute read every now and then. I know some readers turn their noses up at books that are just cute—they want angst, pain, loss, and more pain (plus a heavy dose of romance). And sure, those books have their place, but sometimes you just need something light, fun, and feel-good. That’s exactly what Summoning the Orc delivers.

Becca’s life? It’s cute. Yeah, there’s some hardship (just enough to make us root for her), but let’s be real—she’s got a best friend with a millionaire fated mate who absolutely spoils her. Oh, and she has a dream job as a librarian? Becca is basically living out every book girly fantasy.

And then there’s Rok. Big, muscly, sweet, attentive—and fully committed to throwing that "axe" down at any time. The language barrier in the beginning? Adorable.

I haven’t read the other books yet, but if I ever need another cute, comforting read, I’ll definitely be picking up more from this series.

fun and spicy

This was a fun read, a good palate cleanser to separate me from all the darker things I’d been reading. I will admit I would still like to place a few trigger/content warnings, but they’re very mild in that what is done by the MMC is not malicious in intent, and what isn’t done to the FMC is very brief in its mention. TWs: kidnapping (by MMC), pregnancy (not FMC but they do discuss FMC possibly getting pregnant), reference to sexual assault (side character references it with another side character, MMC stops that real fast), and blood/violence (the bad guys have to get beaten somehow)

OH MY ORC! I am absolutely LOVING this series by Saam King!! She writes orc romance so so well. Becca's character is so adorable and yet very endearing and relatable. Rok is just.... perfect in every way. Their story kind of reminded me of the movie Kate and Leopold - When Becca accidentally summons Rok to her world and life, it was adorable that they had to learn each other's language and he had to learn a whole new world - but was willing to do it no questions asked for his mate. Rok is so swoon-worthy!!!

Fatefully Hers

First day at her dream job and she summons an Orc! Not just any Orc, but her fated mate. I laughed so hard the first part of the book as he dealt with being on a different plane. At least he got a translation potion so they could communicate easier. I enjoyed this book while laughing, crying and sitting on the edge of my chair. I also strongly suggest you read book one in this series as the same characters show up here. A wonderful read as they achieve their HEA.

Gahhh I adored this book! It was so witty and fun. Becca and Rok's chemistry together was everything.

It reminded me of the movie George of the Jungle which I absolutely loved. Rok comes through an accidental portal and has no idea what this strange world he entered is. there's a language barrier and he attacks cars. 10/10 adore the Kingverse series and cannot wait to dive into the next one.

Oh my gosh, I thought this book was a better than the first one. Don’t get me wrong. The first one was great and fun and romantic. But the dynamic between the main character characters in this book versus the first one is drastically different. I love that because sometimes authors, copy and paste the same characteristics on to different characters. That is not a problem here. I also found the knowledge gap between the characters to be very genuine and quirky. I appreciate it getting to learn characters this way.

Caveman meets hopeless romantic 🥰

I loved the second installment of this series, and can’t wait to keep reading!
Becca is such a sweetheart, so glad that she paired up with Rok! His cluelessness was so hilarious. The whole language barrier situation was so fun to read as they attempted to understand each other. Very cute read!

I want to give 3 1/2 but I can’t

I loved the first book and the premise of the series but these 2 weren’t believably in love. In the first book the characters actually got to know one another and in this book it felt like it was only about physical attraction.

This one was a kind of boring too in some parts. It did pick up some at the end. I don't really want to continue this series but I am interested in Rudgar's and Enka's stories.

Loved!! Towards the end my heart got a little broke but it came back together so nicely. I cannot wait to see where book 3 takes us!! Kinda slowish burn but not really lol they just don't jump straight to it. And I laughed through it also. Such a good combo of everything a book needs!
