September's Bad Boy - Cooper is Book 5 of the Bad Boys of Mustang Mountain series. It's a short and steamy, instalove with a slow-burn vibe, age-gap, mutual pining, opposites-attract, girl gets her ex's father romance. Riley is a 25 year old who works on filing for grants. Cooper is a 42-year-old hunky ex-con and her ex's father (Jason). He stepped in four years ago when Riley was at a party and someone was getting handsy with her. He defended Riley and went to prison for 4 years . Now, he is back and wants to open a gym in the community. Riley has liked him for awhile, and Cooper feels the same. But a lot of people in town are rude, especially when vandalism and fires start appearing. They admit their feelings to each other and things heat up. What will Jason say? The chemistry was insane and the ending was so happy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kaci Rose knows how to write forbidden romance that punches you straight in the gut, and September’s Bad Boy – Cooper might just be my favorite of the Mustang Mountain series so far. This novella delivers everything I love in an age-gap, ex’s dad romance — heat, heartache, and that addictive sense of “we really shouldn’t…but we absolutely will.”
Cooper is raw, rugged, and imperfect — a man carrying prison scars and the weight of past mistakes. Riley is strong, independent, and determined to move forward, but her heart still stutters whenever Cooper walks in the room. Their connection is electric, simmering with years of unspoken want and the kind of forbidden intensity that makes every glance feel dangerous.
This isn’t just about lust, though — it’s about redemption, second chances, and rewriting the narrative when life has marked you as the villain. Cooper wants to prove he can be the hero in Riley’s story, and she’s brave enough to let herself believe it. The push and pull between them kept me hooked from start to finish.
The pacing is fast, the tension thick, and the steam? Let’s just say Mustang Mountain has never felt hotter. 🔥 By the end, I didn’t just want their HEA — I needed it. And now I want to pack my bags and live on that mountain, surrounded by these unforgettable bad boys and the fierce women who love them.

September's Bad Boy - Cooper is the ninth book in the Bad Boys of Mustang Mountain series. The story is about starting over and standing your ground with you beliefs. Cooper Montgomery has arrived back in Mustang Mountain to open a gym where the kids in the area can keep out of trouble. He was not a really good man when he was younger and has just been released from prison after serving four years on an assault charge. Riley Sanders appears to work for the town council, but it was not clear. She moved back to Mustang Mountain after graduating college. She is also Jason's ex, who just so happens to be Cooper's son. But Cooper and Riley are tied together in another way as he was saving her from an assault one night outside a club that landed him in jail. These two are simmering hot and heavy just below the surface, waiting for the moment it all breaks and boils over in sizzling hot passion. There are a lot of complications for these two but sometimes you just have to follow your heart and let other people have their opinions, as you will never win everyone over.
We have another biker from the mountain who is now out of prison and ready to get his life going again. Even after all this time Cooper and Riley still have chemistry between them and beside this being an age gap story is it takes on a lot more since Riley is also Cooper’s son’s ex. Oh, yeah, I love these types of stories. Add in the things happening in this town and what is up with that development firm. This was an edge of your seat book that has me anxiously waiting to see what comes in October’s book.
Another month, another bad boy to grace our presence in Mustang Mountain. I love an age gap romance and throw in the fact that Riley is Cooper's son's ex... 🔥🔥🔥!! I am absolutely invested in what's going on in this town, and this story carried me along on the edge of my seat.. what's going on with the development firm? Are they behind on this chaos? I have so many more questions... Looks like I'll be back next month, and it won't just be to swoon over the "suprise you're a dad" Cullen" 😘.
What another great Mustang Mountain story. Cooper is trying to show he is rebuilding his life and do things the right way. Make up for his past. Yet there are people in the community trying hard to make things happen to others, and put blame elsewhere. Time to find the person who is breaking in to businesses and starting fires, and hold accountable.
If you’re a mood reader like me, sometimes you just need a quick hit of romance with a guaranteed HEA—and the Bad Boys of Mustang Mountain novellas always deliver.
This month’s bad boy, Cooper, was an absolute delight. Wrongly incarcerated after defending Riley, the girl he never forgot, he returns to Mustang Mountain determined to make a difference for others. But coming home isn’t easy—he faces small-town gossip, an angry son, and the weight of proving he’s truly changed.
The chemistry between Cooper and Riley is undeniable, their second-chance story both heart-tugging and satisfying. Watching Cooper fight not just for Riley but also for his redemption made this a wonderful, binge-worthy read. Another win for this series!

Cooper Montgomery is not the same man who left Mustang Mountain. Prison has a way of leaving its mark. Cooper’s downfall came not from reckless choices, but from one fateful night when he stepped in to protect his son’s ex-girlfriend, Riley. He did what no one else had the courage to do and paid for it with years behind bars. I wasn’t sure why he was convicted and felt it was unjust, especially since his actions were rooted in protection, but perhaps he had a past record and that may have sealed his fate. Now, Cooper is back, determined to rewrite his story by building a gym that will give Mustang Mountain’s kids a place to channel their energy and avoid the mistakes he made. But a man with a prison record doesn’t get a warm welcome home. Suspicion clings to him, especially when an arsonist begins wreaking havoc and fingers point his way. The one person who refuses to doubt him is Riley. She’s steadfast, bold, and unwilling to let small-town whispers dictate her choices. Their relationship may raise eyebrows, but what makes it so compelling is that neither of them cares. For Cooper and Riley, it’s not about appearances, it’s about truth, trust, and a love that refuses to be silenced. The emotional core of the story lies not only in their romance, but also in Cooper’s strained relationship with his son, Jason. Jason’s anger and disapproval run deep, both over his father’s absence and his involvement with Riley. Watching that bitterness transform into reluctant respect and eventually into a fragile rebuilding of trust, adds heart and depth to the narrative. At its core, this is a story of redemption. A man determined to rise above his past. A woman who never stopped believing in him. And a town forced to decide whether it can forgive and accept one of its own. It’s raw, heartfelt, and ultimately hopeful—a love story rooted in second chances, resilience, and the courage to stand tall in the face of judgment. He left town in handcuffs. He came back to prove he’s not the same man.
After serving time for a violent act that turned him into Mustang Mountain’s cautionary tale, Cooper returns to open a gym and give local kids a fighting chance. The town remembers his past more than his intentions, and forgiveness isn’t easy to earn. Running into Riley, the one woman tied to it all, shakes everything loose.
Riley’s built a quiet life away from Mustang Mountain, but coming home means facing the man who’s never really left her mind. Cooper once stepped in when no one else did, and now she’s the only one willing to stand by him. As pressure mounts, she’s all in, even when it puts her right in the path of a town that still carries grudges.
Their shared history is complicated, their connection intense. What starts with hesitation builds into something real as they face the past, challenge old loyalties, and fight for the future. When new threats rise, it’s love, not survival, that changes everything.
Cooper grows from hardened and guilt-ridden to steady, driven, and fiercely protective. Riley shifts from guarded and quiet to bold, clear-eyed, and ready to fight for what she believes in. Together, they push past old pain to find something solid, something worth keeping.
Their relationship starts in tension but grows into something rooted in trust, emotional honesty, and hard-won connection. It’s not fast or easy, but it’s real. And it’s theirs.
A steamy, slow burn, age gap, small town, second chance romance featuring a protective ex-con, a resilient woman, emotional scars, and a community caught between judgment and grace. Their story explores redemption, forgiveness, healing, loyalty, family, intimacy, growth, and being believed when it matters most. It's about facing the worst version of yourself, choosing to do better, and finding love with someone who never stops seeing your worth.
September’s Bad Boy - Cooper is the ninth book in the Bad Boy of Mustang Mountain series. Cooper has finally returned home after serving four years in prison for protecting Riley when no one else would help her one night. Now that he’s back, he wants to help the Mustang Mountain youth by opening a gym and providing them with a place to go. However, this means facing his son, Jason, and trying to mend their relationship. One significant obstacle stands in his way: Jason’s ex, Riley, the woman Cooper has not been able to stop thinking about.
Riley understands that Cooper is her ex’s father, but she also knows he has always been there for her. She wants him, and now that he is back, she is determined to stand by him no matter what, refusing to let him push her away. The tension, attraction, and chemistry between Cooper and Riley are intense, deepening their connection and making their intimacy all the more passionate.
This short instalove story is packed with so much excitement that I found myself racing through the pages, eager to discover what happens next. There’s plenty of drama, from the developers still harassing Mustang Mountain to the complicated healing process in the father-son relationship. The slow burn between Cooper and Riley builds towards healing from past traumas and learning to open up, trust, and support each other.
The author does a fantastic job with all the characters and the world that surrounds them. I can’t wait to read next month’s book in the series!

Love Changes Everything - Cooper knew it would be a struggle when he returned to town after his incarceration, but fate brought him a gift on his arrival in the form of Riley, who was really appreciative of his actions. However, not everyone was happy about his return to town, which led to speculation about his character, especially after a few incidents occurred around town. Even though, Copper was trying hard to make up for his past, some of the townspeople made his life difficult, but Riley didn’t care about what others thought and stood by him.
The time Riley and Copper spent together allowed their feelings for each other to grow into a relationship, but his son found fault with this and made his disapproval known to them. Fortunately, the townspeople started to change their minds about Cooper after he put his life on the life on a couple of occasions and Riley found evidence to clear him of suspicion of a crime. Luckily, Riley and Copper’s resilience got them through all the troubles in their path, so they could have a chance at having a happy future.
I really enjoyed reading this second chance at happiness romance story with a small town vibe, fascinating characters and a gripping, drama-filled storyline, had me glued to the pages until the early hours of the morning. If you are looking for an exciting story to keep you entertained for a couple of hours, then look no further than this book and you won’t be disappointed.

Cooper and Riley’s story includes some angst, some regret and a great deal of yearning. After serving a prison sentence, Cooper is back on Mustang Mountain to restart his life. With the help of Ruby (the town matriarch of sorts) and an investor, he hopes to set up a gym geared toward youth and keeping them occupied and out of trouble. He didn’t expect to find Riley, the woman he can’t stop thinking about, back in town too. Defending Riley against a drunken assailant landed him prison due to his previous record. Cooper never blamed Riley for what happened, nor did it dampen his attraction to her.
Riley had been dating Jason, Cooper’s son at the time, but his refusal to believe her version of what happened that night and to defend his father led to their breakup. Seeing Cooper back in town stirs up all the feelings Riley has carried with her for years. It isn’t just gratitude or regret she is feeling. She is insanely attracted to Cooper and more than a little in love too. But why would he be interested in a woman who inadvertently got him sent to prison and who had dated his son? His resentful son is also back in town and seems determined to hold grudges against both of them.
Despite so many obstacles in their way, Riley and Cooper can’t stay away from each other and refuse to deny the connection and love between them. Cooper finds not only his soulmate, but a woman willing to stand beside him and even defend him when trouble comes his way. I am happy to recommend this book.
Cooper Montgomery came to the aid of a young woman and for that, he was sentenced to prison. Now released, is there still a life for him in Mustang Mountain? He knows that his son, Jason, hates him, but is there a chance to form a new relationship with him? He has plans to renovate an old building into a gymnasium, for the town kids, a place for them to feel safe and worthwhile. Seeing Riley Sanders when he arrived in town was unexpected. She was the woman he defended, a woman who had once dated his son. He has feelings for Riley, shouldn’t, but does and was surprised when she insisted on thanking him for his protection. She is still upset that his assistance on that one evening took him away from his son and home. When his gym is vandalized and fires destroy a local barn…is this the work of the developer who is trying to buy land in the area? Riley has spent time with Cooper, helping him with the gym, and soon the feelings that she once felt for him flares back to life. He also wants her, but he’s not good enough for her. She disagrees with him and knows that he deserves a second chance with his son and the town. A shorter story, but filled with engaging characters and a story that will make you believe that second chances are worth the effort. Cooper has gone through a lot. He has finally returned to Mustang Mountain and not everyone is happy about it. Ruby is. Cooper has returned to open a gym so that there is a place for kids to hang out and not get into trouble. Ruby’s friend wants to invest in Mustang Mountain and is willing to be a silent partner as she tells Cooper. Riley Sanders used to date Cooper’s son, Jason. Finding out about what happened and how judgmental people are for it, really got me livid. Cooper was just protecting Riley and he ended up going to jail for it. Jason is unwilling to listen to reason. Getting to see some of the previous books (& other Mustang Mountain series) people was great. It showed just how much of a community Mustang Mountain is, but like any ‘small’ town everyone is up in everyone else’s biz.
Even when Riley was dating Jason she had a thing for Cooper. Now, she isn’t going to hide her feelings anymore and Cooper is the same way- he wants to rebuild his life. He isn’t back for revenge or anything like that. They really impressed me. Plus, I was proud of them. There is a bunch of vandalism and some other stuff that happens. The book was fun, funny, crazy, romantic, sweet, scary, steamy and interesting. It was also inspiring. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This is book nine in the multi author Bad Boys of Mustang Mountain series and features an ex boyfriend’s dad/ex con romance. Cooper, the MMC, had never really been a pillar of the community but, after being released from prison, he was trying. Unfortunately the town isn’t as eager to accept that he’s changed—especially after all of the suspicious fires and break ins.
Cooper wouldn’t have gone to prison in the first place if he hadn’t gotten into a fight to rescue Riley, the FMC and his son’s girlfriend. He wasn’t the one responsible but, with a past like his, who was gonna believe he wasn’t at fault? He’s back home on Mustang Mountain now though and he and Riley keep running into each other; they’re beginning to realize that their feelings aren’t quite as one-sided as they’d believed.
This was a short and sweet age gap romance with an ex boyfriend’s dad. It was a bit more of a slow burn than I hoped and pretty low heat but I know that some readers prefer less intimacy and, for those, this is an awesome read. For myself though, it wasn’t my favorite by this author but still worth reading, 4 stars!.

Cooper went to prison and is now back to create a gym to give disadvantaged kids an alternative to bad behavior. He's the dad of Riley's ex and has been attracted to her since she turned 18. She was attracted to him too, but neither acted on it since she was dating his son.
This is a short story and things develop quickly once he's back in town. Unfortunately, he was a bad dad so he has a really strained relationship with his son and his developing relationship with Riley doesn't help that. His stint in prison is confusing because he was protecting Riley from an attack so it doesn't make sense that he was convicted, that his son assumes he did something wrong, and that the town has a bad opinion of him. She should have been screaming the truth during his trial. I also don't know what made him such a bad dad. More details might have helped explain things especially since she liked him when she was dating his son so he couldn't have been that bad. Cooper seems like a really good guy now.
There's a lot of heat and a mystery about town fires and vandalism. All is wrapped up pretty quickly.
Thank you to Booksprout for a copy of this book. This is my honest review.
He is back in town after being sent away. He was defending a girl and got in a fight, which landed him in jail. He should have made better choices but he has learned from those he has made. He is ready to come home and do something for the community. He is building a gym and hoping to mentor others who might be going down the wrong path. But then he runs into her. She was his son's ex, and the girl he saved that night.
She sees him for the first time since he was sent away. She can't help but kissing him, thanking him for what he did no matter what it ended up costing him. She feels it and knows he does too. The pull they have towards each other. They have ghosts from the past to overcome, but they also keep getting drawn back together. There is a note of redemption, a little spice, a forbidden relationship, an age gap and a happily ever after.

Kaci Rose delivers another unforgettable installment in the Bad Boys of Mustang Mountain series with Cooper and Riley’s story. What could easily have been messy is instead layered with emotion, forbidden tension, and the kind of passion that only builds when two people try to deny what’s undeniable.
Cooper is raw, rugged, and wrestling with his past while trying to build a future. Riley is strong, determined, and ready to fight for her own happiness, even if it means embracing the man she was never supposed to love. Together, their journey is a mix of vulnerability, small-town drama, and intense chemistry that will keep you hooked until the last page.
If you love taboo twists, complex characters, and redemption arcs wrapped in plenty of spice, this short read will absolutely deliver.

'Her lips part, but the words never come. Instead, she closes the space between us, her mouth finding mine. It’s not planned. It’s not careful. It’s raw and messy and full of years we can’t get back. Her lips are soft but demanding, and before I can even think to process what’s happening, she’s pulling away, leaving me breathless. “I’ve dreamed of that since the day you left,” she whispers, her breath uneven, eyes wide in disbelief at her boldness.'
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Cooper and Riley. I loved the dynamic between them and the way their relationship developed. Their chemistry was apparent right from the start. Despite his feelings for her, I loved that she kissed him first. Loved that she was determined to forge her own path with who she wanted. The contrast between Cooper and his crappy son, Jason, was obvious. I was completely hooked to this story. 5 stars
Trying to do the right thing resulted in a prison sentence for Cooper however he has served his time and has recently returned to Mustang Mountain. What he has been through has changed him and he wants to help the community by opening a gym to help youth not repeat his mistakes but not everyone is willing to give him a second chance and that includes his son.
Riley appreciates the price that Cooper paid to help her, but the situation is complicated as he is also the father of her ex. She has feelings for him and when suspicious things begin happening in town she is determined to prove his innocence to the town and her ex.
Cooper’s reluctance to be with Riley is understandable as not only does he want to protect her, but he doesn’t want to fracture his relationship with his son any further. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop as well as the healing with all the other relationships in his life.
Cooper is back in town and trying to make good his past. However it seems small towns are not so forgiving and that's a hurdle that he is determined to plough through. And then there is Riley who sees him for who he is. Andddddd happens to be his son's ex. The son whom he is kinda estranged with right now. Ooh what a plot twist.
This was a short story that was well written and easy to read. It's part of the Mustang Mountain series and here we read more about the things that are happening in town that are targeting well meaning town residents. I loved the slow burn chemistry between the main characters, and the way everything came together in the end, even with Cooper's son, was really touching. I can't wait to read more books in this series.

Cooper had been sent to prison after he stepped up to protect a woman 4 years ago, but he was the man with the record from his youth. That woman was Riley! Cooper wants to open up a gym to help the area kids avoid trouble after us release and returned to Mustang Mountain. Prison changes people. She thanks him for saving her all those years ago, then she kisses him. Riley had dated Jason, Cooper's son briefly during college before their break-up not long after the incident. Will Jason ever change his attitude toward his dad? Someone is doing damage to buildings and sitting fires;trying to blame Cooper? How does Riley help Cooper about who may laying blame on him? Will they get a chance to be together?.

I’ve been loving this series and the redemption stories of each man. This one however wasn’t my favourite in the sense it needed way more information to make it make sense. Jason seemed like an absolute jerk and I’m not sure why everyone abandoned Cooper when he did the right thing? There was also some repetition in sentences, so more editing was needed. I really liked Cooper and he seemed like a great man. Riley was a sweetheart, brave in the face of doubt and loyal to a fault. This was more of a slowish burn, and Cooper never seemed certain about committing to Riley because she was his sons ex. By the end though they seemed a bit more solid, just wish there was more sureness. No cheating or OM/OW drama, condom use, dual POV and a HEA. Looking forward to Cullen’s book and to see how that whole situation plays out.
4.25 stars. This short story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, small town, ex-convict/entrepreneur, ex’s dad, contemporary romance. I enjoyed Cooper, the male lead’s, determination to change his life and ensure that other young people had a better chance than he did. I enjoyed the confidence that Riley, the female lead, had in Cooper, even when his son did not. I enjoyed the relationship development. I enjoyed the secondary character interactions. I enjoyed the calm certainty that Riley and Cooper felt regarding their emotions. I enjoyed the ending and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

If you enjoy a little bit of drama with your instalove, then Kaci has you covered.
Cooper is an ex-con wanting to redeem himself for his past actions (although there's one he doesn't regret, despite being put away for 4 years) and that's protecting Riley. And while he should keep his distance from her, being she's his sons ex girlfriend. The connection between them is too strong and once Riley kisses him all bets are off he's going after what he wants, and Riley is more than a willing participant.
The running theme through all the books has me hooked, I want to know what's happening in the little town, whose trying to sabotage everything and everyone. I can't wait for the big reveal from Kaci and Eve on that.
ex's dad romance. Riley is a young woman living a quiet life in her hometown. But everything changes when she sees Cooper, her ex's father and the man she's had a crush on for years. Cooper is a man who has returned to his hometown after serving a prison sentence following a bar fight. As soon as he arrives in town, he sees the beautiful Riley, his son's ex-girlfriend, who is completely forbidden, and yet he's had a crush on her for years. But now that he's served his prison sentence, he just wants to rebuild his life away from the problems and get closer to his son, who sees him as the enemy. Will Riley and Cooper have a beautiful story, or will Cooper prefer to reconcile with his son rather than Riley's love…
“September’s Bad Boy Cooper” is such a great read and quickly became one of my favorites of the Bad Boys of Mustang Mountain series. The story is well-written with dynamic main and secondary characters. I love the second chance that Cooper is given with his professional and personal life. I also love how the story came full circle with Cooper and Riley’s connection in the past and the one that they develop in the future. Their journey is engaging as well as the connection of their relationship with others, including Cooper’s son. “September’s Bad Boy Cooper” is a wonderful addition to the series.

September’s Bad Boy Cooper is a brilliant mix of drama, action, and second chances. Cooper and Riley burn up the pages with their amazing back story and their determination to meet each other where they are at now. The drama with Jason, and the external overarching series drama, ratchet up the tension and leave emotions running hot. I love how Riley responds, showing up for Cooper over and over. It’s fitting after how he saved her so long ago. The timeline of their story is a bit fuzzy, but it doesn’t detract from the plot and their romance. With mild spice and a whole lot of small town antics, this is a quick and easy read.

Another month, another hot bad boy. Cooper is a free man fresh out of prison, but with plans to help his community. When he was sent to prison because he stood up for Riley, protected her, he knew he would do it over again, his only regret was what it did to his son. Cooper wants to make things right knowing it is going to be an uphill battle for everyone to see he has changed from his hotheaded ways, but this town believes in second chances and Riley believes in him. This was an emotional read with everything Cooper went through and having to deal with some that doesn’t think he belongs nor can change. It hurt watching his own son be so cruel to him, but watching as that bond was slowly starting to come around was beautiful. Another great read.
