“We need to figure out how you got here. So, let’s start with some simple things. How did you die?” “Oh…” Oren balked at the question. “That’s simple? I thought, like… favorite color or something.” “Not really relevant here, hon,” Luc said. “Yeah, guess not.”
Oren hadn’t known he had a thing for horns curling slightly above dark hair and forked tongues swiping over full lips, but there he was, sitting in all his virginal glory, looking at the boss of Hell like he was a full meal just for Oren.
“Where’s his leash?” “Leash?” Luc repeated. “You know… to take him on walks,” Oren said. “Like a dog.” “He’s not a dog. He’s a hellbeast.” “Well, he should still get to go on walkies. I’m sure there are some nice firepits he’d like to visit. Maybe that’s why he was such a cranky-pants before.” Luc stared at Oren in disbelief. How was this person here right now? Luc felt like he was in a fever dream.
“Oh, he’s handsome,” Oren said from behind Luc’s back, and Luc felt something ugly stir inside him at the words. Kassel was regarded as the most attractive of the demons in Hell, with his lavender skin, multiple brightly colored eyes, and long, dark hair. His horns were a deep purple, and he was tall and muscled from all the hard work he did. He’d been the winner of the Mr. Hell pageant for several centuries running. Luc had never paid any attention to Mr. Hell before, but now that Oren had expressed interest, he felt like he should probably find the deepest pit of Hell and send Kassel to be handsome there.
“Sleeping next to you is what’s right for me. Making sure you’re rested and happy is what’s right for me. Making sure this place runs as it should is what’s right for me.” “This place ran fine…” “Oh don’t even try that,” Oren scoffed. “It was a mess, and you and I and every demon under this roof knows that. You’d be lost without me.” “Probably.” “Certainly.”
“You’re literally the weirdest soul I’ve ever met,” Luc said matter-of-factly. “Thank you.” Oren smiled.

“Thank you.” Oren smiled.

“We match now!”
“I can see that,” Luc said, torn between staring at the human in bewilderment and just melting at how incredibly silly and cute he was.

“The ending seems like a bit of overkill. I’m sure, like… a week of torture would deliver the same message,” Oren suggested sweetly.
Luc eyed him for a second before nodding. “Whatever you want, hon.”
