This world has its own laws and is in no particular rush to welcome newcomers. A wide river separates the deadly lands of Haitana from human domains, and thousands of uprooted new arrivals are now wandering along its banks. They don’t have much of a die a horrible death from the hands of multiple enemies or go into indentured servitude in the more civilized areas down the river. The cavalry is not coming, there is no way back, and death is but a wrong step away. Not even cannibals dare settle permanently around these parts, and only the ancient ruins stand as a silent reminder of the region’s former glory. Yet the resilient earthlings live, love, and fight—all in the never-ending pursuit of happiness. There’s just no other way.

Arthur stone is done it again. Arthur The man is a great storyteller. I could see this 1 becoming a series as well, I hope it does. I did find what I think were some mistakes, And I will post them over on goodreads, But this was in enjoyable enough book that I finished it a little over 24 hours. This is the 1st book that I've read In about a In about a week I just hadn't been able to get interested in anything. And then this got published and I dove right in.
Very slow going here. Not sure what is going on here and the story line is disjointed. If you are going to name the title of the book " The Dividing River" I would think there would be more to of the storyline of why the RIVER is so important! This book fails. Hopefully, it gets better.
A decent story. It's a well done story, although I've read similar stories before, this one covered things nicely, and had some building (I really like civilation building stories), so it interested me well enough to be sure. It's an average story, but it's well written, keeps interest from start to finish, and makes for good storytelling. I'm most likely going to read more of this series.
Always a pleasure to read Arthur Stone. The main character Luther the Poorer is an adventurous geologist turned merchant captain who sails through pirate and monster infested waters. What's not to love?
