A story inspired by real events. It began with a tragedy in a small Scottish town at the beginning of the 20th century and a young family shattered by personal grief. They were given renewed hope after the end of the Great War, only for their lives to be devastated once again by unimaginable loss. The story spans the two deadliest conflicts in human history and a pair of heroes emerge from the ashes of broken dreams. As World War II exploded across the globe, one of those heroes truly believed he was in Hell.
This book has moved me more than any ive read for a long time. The author is a friend of mine but that really hasn't coloured my judgement this is such a raw tale beautifully told. Inspired by real events and characters this story beautifully and passionately recreates their lives spanning from the end of the first world war to the end of the second. Moving emotional and at times funny it grabbed me and wrung my heart out. The depictions of Fraserburgh and it's folks are authentic and raw.
