They trained him to fight wars. Nothing trained him for this.
A dead-end posting. A covert recruitment. And something ancient stirring beneath the ocean floor.
Sergeant Wyatt Hood’s Marine career is over in everything but name. Blacklisted after a classified operation in Tora Bela — the Monster Cave — that killed fourteen of his team, he’s stuck pulling range duty at Camp Pendleton. When a shadowy government unit offers him a spot on a new team — the same organization that got him blacklisted — Wyatt wants nothing to do with it. But when he learns a friend has already signed up, he has no choice but to follow.
Meanwhile, Chloe Winters is unraveling. A month after the horrors of the Monster Cave, her magical powers are surging beyond control, and a fellow mage has been brutally murdered. The killer used magic — and the trail leads somewhere far darker than Chloe expected.
At the Supernatural Activities Division’s secret base in Alaska, Wyatt is thrown into a punishing selection advanced weapons, combat diving, and psychic warfare. But something is wrong inside the Lakehouse. A traitor is feeding intelligence to an enemy that has been watching them from the deep — and when the breach comes, Wyatt’s training won’t be enough.

A former soldier, William Stacey served his country for more than thirty years, including multiple combat tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan. William loves exercise and all things martial and is a black belt in karate.
After the ill-fated mission at Tora Bela, Wyatt and Haley Fowler have been side-lined by the Marine Corps. The Division, a secret force of special forces and mages that protect humanity from otherworld threats, recruits both of them. While they train for their new roles, a rogue mage is making plans of his own, which threaten everyone on earth.
Anyone who has read Stacey’s stories knows you can only hang on when you pick up one of his tales. The action is none-stop and brutal. His former military service plays a huge part in his stories and breathes authenticity throughout. I personally would love to play on a range with some of the weaponry that he introduces.
This second instalment is gripping, enthralling and will keep you up deep into the night, glued to the pages, unable to put this down. After what happened in book one Wyatt has been sidelined when he is recruited by a special covert task force that takes on supernatural threats. He steps up to the challenge to face a gruelling regiment of training , to become the best whilst Chloe hunts for a killer. As with book one, the author draws us in with mystery, suspense, terror, horror and unspeakable danger and it was great to see how our characters have grown and come so far.
What an excellent second story to this series. Mr. Stacey knows how to pull you in and keep you on the edge of your seat and wondering what’s going to happen next. There is a lot of action, adventure, suspense, and twists and turns. I love the main characters and I can’t wait to find out what else they get in to. I would recommend this series to everyone. It is so enjoyable. I can’t wait to see what is coming next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I was pretty committed to a 4 star or less as the training aspect was dragging for me. But then the ending, action and everything connected and I couldn’t stop reading the end! Give the author credit for that. There were some things that I would like a little more explained but otherwise great end! Emotional attached to Wyatt too
This series is why William Stacey is a must read author for me. Great characters, unique and fascinating world creation and plenty of action and intrigue to keep you reading long after you should have been in bed. Highly recommended, as are all of William's stories.
I have enjoyed the series so for. Interesting stories and characters, ones to root for and ones to boo, and plenty of action. There are enough twists and turns to keep a person guessing and interested. Can't wait to dive into the next book.
This book has a different cast of characters with a few exceptions. Wyatt and Haley are no longer in the Marine Corps. After their experiences with the supernatural in Afghanistan, which they cannot discuss with anyone, they are basically, forced out of the corps. However, being shivers resistant, they are offered jobs with the Supernatural Activities Division. Wyatt does not really have any interest in being part of the organization which, as far as he is concerned, is responsible for the deaths of most of his team at Tora Bela and the loss of his military career. But Haley jumps in with both feet, and with Wyatt’s need to protect her, he joins Haley at the top-secret training facility in Alaska. Wow, this is another fantastic book in the new SAD series by this wonderful author. I just love these characters! Wyatt, Haley, and Chloe are all major characters in the story line of this book. As in the first book, I found them utterly fascinating. They each have unique personalities, and the author does a fantastic job of portraying every one of the character’s strengths and weaknesses and making them even more engaging. Just like the first book, this book is packed with exciting action, violence, magic, and absolutely terrifying supernatural creatures that want to destroy humanity. There is plenty of bloody violence, murder, and magical attacks, with enough twists and turns in the plot to leave a reader dizzy. I love this book as much as I loved the first in this series, and I highly recommend them to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
