It is an excellent book for anyone wanting to take up a physical activity to build up their fitness and feel better. What distinguishes it from many other fitness/wellness-oriented publications is that it can be used by people of all ages, and is geared up particularly towards those of us who have a few decades under their belt, and may benefit from being fitter, but hate the gym.

Not only is the content well-researched, but it's also easy to read, and logically organised. I loved the table of contents: it makes it clear which chapter deals with which aspect (no fluffy, or lofty click-bites!) of getting into walking. The book is divided into sections, helping the reader get off the couch and make those first steps (e.g. starting with micro walks), extending the time spent walking, helping to find the motivation to continue, whatever the weather, branching out into (other) hobbies, and connecting with others and yourself through and while walking.
The advice to start and keep going is down-to-earth, practical, and doesn't rely on constantly motivating yourself to get up and go. The author shares many tips she had used herself to get back into walking after major health challenges. The key message is: any kind of walking can be beneficial, even my favourite: the Nosy Parker's walks!

If the mere notion of walking makes you break out in hives, fear not! Cuz Go Walking isn’t scary. Or demanding. Or guilt-ify-ing. It’s not one of those slick, over-produced “as seen on TV” infomercial-type deals. It’s not one of those medical journal thingies that’s written in Doctorese so’s the average reader needs a magic decoder ring to figure it out (and me without my Wheaties.) Nor is Go Walking a lot of pie in the sky, bye and bye blackboard theory. Nopers. It's down to earth, paws on the ground practical.

In Go Walking you’ll find out how:

To get out there because it’s fun
To feel that you’re doing your best for your happiness, health and longer life
To get the most out of your walking and turn it into a habit that you never want to give up
Walking cheers you up, reduces your stress and makes you feel great. You can squeeze so much fun out of your walks, each and every day.

Speaking of which, as author Rosemary Bointon says, if walking seems “boring” to you, the solution is pretty simple: make it fun! And Rosemary offers about eight million cool ideas to do so and get out and walk! So lace up those shoes and let’s Go Walking for a healthier, happier you in this eminently readable and highly enjoyable little book.

Fascinating and informative, Go Walking is engaging and entertaining. Inspirational. Motivational. And just plain fun.

This is such a valuable resource for anyone who thinks that they could benefit from more exercise and movement but perhaps aren't sure how to do it, or how to keep it engaging and enjoyable. I've really loved testing out some of the many ideas put forward here, stopping on my dog walks to hold a one leg balance, focusing on my sense of smell when I'm out and about as a form of mindfulness, or trying intervals of walking faster to get myself working a bit harder! This book is really well researched with so many tips and ideas. I can tell that the author has lived and breathed these methods, giving it authenticity.
Use it to find your new favourite way to walk, or you could mix it up and have a new approach every day. A great gift, particularly perhaps for someone older, or experiencing health issues, to help them find a gentle and happy way to reengage with all the health benefits of getting moving. Highly recommend!
