It was just one kiss. It wouldn’t ruin their friendship at all. Or so they thought.
Samantha Carter knew it was all her fault; she was the reason they even kissed in the first place. So when her older brother Jeff made her promise to stay away from his best friend, she agreed. She loves her brother, and would never want to do anything to hurt him. But if that truly were the case, why can’t she stop Nico from pulling her into a dark corner at the pub the night before Thanksgiving after years of staying away?
It’s been four years since Nicolas Giuliano kissed Sam, and he’s done everything he can to try and forget about it. What started out as a joke that night quickly shifted into something far more, and it obliterated his sixteen year friendship with his best friend. Now he’s home for the holidays and Jeff wants to make things right. Yet all of that hard work to fix his friendship and forget about Sam instantly crumbles at the sight of her standing in front of him after so long.
Sam knows she should listen to her brother. Nico knows his wounded friendship with Jeff is still fragile. And yet…under the magical spell of New York City during the holidays, the two of them can’t resist the magnetic force that ruined their friendship in the first place.

Oh, this book. It was a labor of love. It challenged me in new ways as an author. These characters are complex, with a huge mix of emotions that I did not expect when I first dived in.
I’m so grateful for my village of people that got me to the finish line. And thank YOU, my lovely readers, for always supporting me and loving my stories. I can’t wait for you to read this one. Happy Holidays. ❄️
Too early for Christmas vibes? I’d say I’m too late instead. And this one was absolutely perfect to bring those vibes in.
“He was completely and utterly gone for this woman. And he wasn’t scared in the slightest to admit that to himself. He’d do anything for her. Anything.”
The way Nicolas Giuliano fell for his girl has made me speed-read this one while I eagerly zoomed through the chapters. His dedication, his obsession, and the way that his possessive nature empowers Samantha is truly just 🤌🏼🤌🏼 If this is how friendships are ruined, then may such destruction never end!
“You should have seen her on the phone with him. She looked like the human equivalent of a sunbeam.”
There’s an entire host of characters in this one that I truly hope to meet again, someday. It is indeed heartwarming to know that the leads we fall for also have a group of supportive friends exactly like we make friends for life. There’s something about the ‘friends like family and family like friends’ part here that I truly adored. Ultimately, that is what life is all about.
I received a review copy and these are my thoughts:
Sam kissed her brothers best friend. Her brother made her promise she wouldn’t pursue Nico but 4 years later, they are brought back together just before thanksgiving. Needing a date to attend his work Christmas party, Nico enlists Sam’s help on a little fake dating scheme. This was only supposed to last 10 days and both of their work Christmas parties but once again, sparks fly, their chemistry too strong to deny and they end up in a secret relationship. They’re determined not to ruin the friendship between the three of them once again, but is it possible?
This book was so cute!! Sinko delivered another great new adult romance!
I liked that Sam and Nico didn’t merely “get each other out of their systems”, but got to hang out and reacquaint themselves with each other. Nico and Sam were so cute together!! They had chemistry, they were sweet and goofy and so smitten they behaved like teenagers in love. I enjoyed how vulnerable Nico and Sam were about their insecurities regarding work and meeting expectations - even self-imposed ones. The banter was flirty and the spice appropriate for this couple. They were caring and vulnerable with each other in the intimacy department but also playful and a little naughty.
Yumi and Sam were the best besties! They were so fun and supportive of each other, they were truly like sisters. I also liked how Nico’s friends welcomed and embraced Sam into their group.
Jeff annoyed me at one point. I didn’t get why he was so mad at them for not telling him they were seeing each other but then he redeemed himself.
The plot was set against a winter/Thanksgiving/Christmas time New York City, making this a great story to get into the holiday spirit!
This might be K Sinko’s best book to date… and that’s insane because all of her work is phenomenal!!
I read this book in exactly one night because I just couldn’t put it down. The banter was amazing, the chemistry between Nico and Sam was off the charts, and all the sub plots and winter in New York vibes were just ✨chef’s kiss ✨
There is just something about the way that K Sinko writes that leaves an impact and takes you fully into the story. AND THE FIRST FEW CHAPTERS?!?!? ARE WE KIDDING?!?!???????
No notes. This is a fantastic book and I love love loved it!!
Jeff Carter and Nicolas Giuliano have been practically lifelong best friends. They do everything together, including driving Jeff’s younger sister, Samantha, crazy. Sam never thought she would see Nico as anything other than an annoyance. But one night, a kiss changes all of it for both of them. Unfortunately, Jeff doesn’t feel the same and he makes them promise to stay away from each other - a choice he felt he had to make in order to preserve his relationships with both his sister and best friend.
Fast forward to many years later, and Sam runs into Nico while she’s home for Thanksgiving. This reunion sparks so many feelings for both of them. Coincidentally, they find out they both live in New York City and decide to keep in touch as friends. On one particularly stressful day at work, Nico is asked to bring a date to the company Holiday party. He quickly asks Sam and they strike a deal as being each other’s “fake” dates to both of their parties.
As you can probably guess, this is where the drama starts to heat up! I don’t want to give any more away, so I’ll just say that I loved this book so much. I really enjoyed the playful banter between Nico & Sam. It made me smile and some parts were so cute and funny. Reading this book was truly a breath of fresh air during my stressful week.
I also loved that the story took place in New York City during the Holidays. I could really envision the sparkly glitz of the city and all of the festive activities and decor. K really has a gift in making her stories so real that you can see them!
But the thing I enjoyed most? K captured all the “butterfly” feelings and heady excitement of liking someone and spending time with them. This book bottles all of that up perfectly, and lets you experience those feelings alongside Sam & Nico. It was like a Dopamine Rush in book form!
Last but certainly not least, there was quite a bit of spice in this book! But K always starts by giving closed door modifications for anyone wanting to skip it. Personally, I love a good bit of spice in my romance, but it’s nice that she recognizes this isn’t for everyone and she writes all of her books so that everyone can enjoy them!
Ruin the Friendship was a beautiful holiday themed read filled with funny moments, sweet & spicy firsts, fun supporting characters, and a gorgeous backdrop. Absolutely add it to your book list and add the rest of K. Sinko’s books while you’re at it. Everything she writes is fantastic!!
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨: ❄️Brother’s best friend ❄️Second chance romance ❄️NYC during the holidays ❄️Hilarious side characters ❄️Behind the scenes in the world of media
If you don’t already know, I am a K. Sinko STAN!! Everything she’s written has been an absolute delight to read & Ruin The Friendship is no different. Her previous new adult romance, Sunday Supper, was a top book of mine last year and Ruin The Friendship has grabbed a spot again this year. This book perfectly depicted the quintessential holiday vibes in NYC during Christmas time. We’re talking ice skating in Central Park, the holiday market in Bryant Park, snow-covered sidewalks that reflect all the lights on Fifth Ave - it was absolutely atmospheric. Sam & Nico’s relationship was beautiful, even though it definitely started off rocky, and the conflict resolution between our other characters was done really well. The side characters, like Yumi & Jeff, were a freaking delight and so so funny. The comedic relief was needed during some heavier moments in the book & K Sinko sure knows how to write laugh out loud moments.
This holiday romance had everything and I was swooning the entire time. I love a man down bad for his girl! And he was down down bad. Fake dating scheme. Holiday dates and a snow day. So much to love. And I loved both their career stories - they felt so real and relatable but didn’t pull you out of the story. These characters felt so real like they’re my close personal friends. My gosh I love everything K Sinko writes but this was something unbelievably special. Dare I say this was my favorite?? 5/5
Thoughts as I read (spoilers ahead!!)
I have butterflies already and it’s just the prologue
AHHH RUSSOA DINER YESSSS I LOVE A RECALL MOMENT
this needs to be a Netflix holiday movie asap
Jeff sucks and is the villain. His apology is half assed and if he was mature he would’ve realized he was over Nico two years ago and released Sam from her promise. He didn’t suffer enough for the damage he caused and I’ll never forgive him for the four years Sam and Nico lost.
4.5 ⭐ If you are looking for a fun romantic holiday read, look no further! I've been a fan of K. Sinko for a long time & not gonna lie, I think I found a new fav of hers! Ruin The Friendship is incredible - I loved the forbidden romance of it all, the brother's best friend the fake dating & the individual journey both of the characters go on with their jobs & such. Sam & Nico just compliment each other so well & it was so easy to fall in love with them (while they fell in love - seriously swoon!) Also, Nico, he can't get enough of Sam but we can't get enough of Nico - seriously just the best. This one is out now & on Kindle Unlimited so pick it up today (or save it for a nice snowy day because it would be the perfect winter read!) ❄️ Adored this one so much!!
Huge thanks to @ksinko as always for the advanced reader copy - it is always an honor to read your words & get sucked so easily into your wonderful worlds. ✨
"Oh, Sammy girl. Where have you been this whole time?"
K. Sinko writes a book; I don’t sleep until I finish it. It’s the natural progression of life.
This is a top holiday read for me like ever. Sinko somehow managed to capture the magic and joy of the season and wrap it all up into these 344 pages.
If you're looking for a man who can YEARN, let me introduce you to Nico. That man is scrumptious! I love Sam too! But I can't stop squealing over Nico! Let me live, okay?? The banter between the two was fantastic!
The side characters are a DELIGHT! If you won’t read this book for me or Nico, read it to meet Yumi! Our comedic relief queen! There was also a cameo from my favorite short king!
Tldr; I love this book. Absolutely worth the lost sleep. I've been thinking about it nonstop and I'm so not over it. I'll be shouting about this one forever tbh

“Oh, Sammy girl, where have you been this whole time?”
Ruin the Friendship broke my heart and put it back together. This book is phenomenal - I’ve loved Sinko’s writing for a while now, and this newest book exceeded all my expectations. Sam and Nico’s forbidden romance is so beautiful and emotional. One kiss changed everything for them. Nico is down BAD for Sam, and learning that he’s yearned for her for years made me cry. Ruin the Friendship is a gorgeous love letter to the brother’s best friend trope. Oh, and I love that Sam’s a gin girly too 😂
I am so honored to have been an advance reader for K. Sinko again. Your books are special. Thank you endlessly! I can’t wait to get my physical copy to put next to her sisters 🥰 Oh, and a certain cameo made me actually say “shut UP” and out loud and screech a little bit, so thank you for that 🥹🍝
Thank you K. Sinko for letting me be a part of your ARC team! I am so honored to get to read your books in advance. I loved this holiday romance!
This book has so many things I love: brother’s best friend, young and forbidden love, fake dating, holiday vibes. It was immaculate. From the prologue I was immediately sucked in to this forbidden love situation. And it definitely kept me invested.
I really liked both of the main characters and felt they were equally well developed. I adored the love letter to NYC during the holidays. It made me want to visit at Christmas time. I also really liked the cameo from certain beloved characters from another novel 😌
Overall, I really had such a good time with this one. It wasn’t my favorite of K. Sinko’s (hello Sunday Supper) but it was a close second. It is the PERFECT book to read this holiday season!
A love story to winter in New York, full of glamorous locations and stunning scenes of romantic gestures by a 24 year old who acts like a Gen Z billionaire. Sadly, it felt like it lacked true substance that I found in Sinko’s Sunday Supper. Nico and Sam don’t feel real, or flawed; they don’t get vulnerable until briefly when you’re 70% in. Where is the trauma and the emotional arc? It was just too easy and not messy in the way I loved Sunday Supper.
Also, I really hated the nickname baby girl. For a woman who claims to not want to be seen as young and poor and naive at work, the nickname feels infantilizing and contradictory. But, in a weird twist, I did love that Sam called Nico baby dog?
K.Sinko does it again. She manages to make me become smitten with all her love interests, and Nico definitely won me over. He’s absolutely head over heels in love with Sam, and there’s no way he could stop himself.
I liked how they communicated. Even if there was something they needed to work through, they got through it together without icing the other out. I liked how they also were comfortable with being vulnerable around the other, taking them as a safe space to vent about their issues.
It was a great cozy romance with funny side characters, and K.Sinko writing never fails to make my heart pitter patter.
Every time this author writes a new book it becomes my new favorite. This one was no exception. I absolutely adored this book! I truly fell in love with every single character, which is extremely hard to do for most authors but I was so invested in all of their lives. The second chance romance trope has me in a chokehold and this one was just. So. Good. Absolutely perfect to read around the holidays. This was one that made me sad when it ended because I just wanted more! And the callback to her previous book Sunday Supper warmed my heart so much. Love this author and everything she’s written!
Swooooooon 😍 A fast-paced, chemistry packed, and emotionally messy and complicated friends-to-lovers romance that had me invested from the very first page. It was tension packed with witty banter and filled with so much heart throughout. The chemistry between Nico and Sam was captured perfectly with a mix between a comfortable and dangerous situation. And I loved all of the side characters with the exception of Sam’s brother 😅. A super fun, steamy romance with some added chaos (in the best way) that takes place in NYC around the holidays. Definitely recommend!
K Sinko delivered the perfect forbidden holiday romance 💌 This sweet and truly charming story is absolutely addictive; you'll keep reading "just one more page" until you've devoured the whole thing 🤭 This is the perfect book to curl up with and if you're looking for a read that will instantly put a smile on your face and give you all the cozy feels, look no further because this is it.
We love a good cozy holiday romance with a hint of spice! 🥰
This is a brother’s best friend, forbidden romance where her brother FORBIDS his sister from being with his best friend! However, they just can’t stay away from each other, even though they tried!
This book was so warm and fuzzy to read! K Sinko really knows how to write cute banter too! Gah I loved the FMC qnd MMC!
If you’re looking for a cute holiday book that’ll make you feel all cozy inside, this is it!
I enjoyed this holiday romance. It was a fun and entertaining read. The miscommunication wasn't between the love interests but instead between a brother and sister which was unique. They were hiding things from each other. Sam and Nico really were a second chance romance and brothers best friend trope. They eachvwere also such hard workers too. Also the side characters in this book were next level. I need a Yumi in my life.
Swoon worthy and hilarious! K. Sinko has such a gift creating well rounded main characters and the best, most complimentary side characters. Nico really is THAT MAN (your honor, I love him) and I want to be besties with Sam (FMC) and Yumi (best friend) SO BAD!
Christmas in New York is obviously an iconic setting but this book still feels very warm and authentic and familial.
Friends to lovers, forbidden love - loved it. K. Sinko never fails at writing a story that enamours you from the start. The slow burn, the romance, the storyline, was all done so well and I don’t think I’ll ever read anything of hers that I wouldn’t enjoy! This is such an easy, light hearted read and impossible not to love!
Another 5 star read from this baddie… literally the only thing wrong with it were the couple typos I found, and honestly tough cookies it still was so good
