Jack Jones is a snarky, fun-loving expert spy and assassin with an eye for beautiful women. One minute he’s saving the world; the next, he’s rolling around in bed with his newest paramour. But something is missing: Jack has never been in love.
His life is turned upside down when he loses his target to Irina Stepanov. Worse yet, they have to work together to protect the very person he was initially sent to kill; her half-brother Dimitri. Jack is thrown into a world of betrayal, death, and pondering the question, can he fall in love without running away?

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am sharing my review voluntarily.
As a Christian Life Coach, Forensic Psychologist, and Motivational Speaker recovering from a brain tumor, I was introduced to this author by a friend. Although I usually enjoy works by authors like James Patterson and Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Clive Cussler, and Tom Clancy, I hesitated at first due to my unfamiliarity with this author. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the book's quality. It follows spies Jack and Irina from rival agencies who must work together against a powerful adversary, Isaac. The plot thickens when Isaac's assassin, Dimitri, unexpectedly joins forces with them. This engaging introduction to the series maintains suspense about the characters' fates, and I look forward to exploring the trust issues that may arise among them.
Against a background of alarm sounds, Jack Jones rushed through the corridors.
He only had a handful of minutes left to deactivate the missile that was about to be launched...

A short, hyper-classic, well-written spy novel featuring a duo of characters, Jack and Irina, against a backdrop of rivalries and betrayals.
I liked the very beginning, but afterward I got bored despite the action moments. I would have loved to love this novel but the plot and the characters are far too smooth/flat.
Alliance: A Short Thriller (Agents of Deception Book 1), my seventh enjoyable short (51 page) read from author Sam Chase that I finished in under an hour. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author with Shadow Pursuit (Agents of Deception #2) up next. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.
Lots of action, and the plot is interesting and well-explored. The issue is the characters. Very flat. Our protagonist seems to be a pseudo-James Bond, but the humor is surface and he seems to have no special skills to make him a super agent. His partner/future love interest/foil is equally flat. I feel I know the bad guy (who is off screen the entire story) better.
Two spies, Jack and Irina, from two different agencies, must work together to bring one man down. Isaac is a man with eyes everywhere. His assassin, Dimitri, decides to work with the spies to catch him. Some action, some suspense but a little dissapointing in that there's not enough action and the characters could have been better. Although still a good read.
This was a good start to the series. Kept you on your toes. Not quite sure if they were going to be caught or what. It will be interesting to see what's next. Especially with not knowing who they can trust...even each other.
