Nicolas Werth
73 books24 followersNicolas Werth (born 1950) is a French historian, and an internationally known expert on communist studies, particularly the history of the Soviet Union. He is the son of Alexander Werth, a Russian-born British journalist and writer.
He wrote the chapters dedicated to the USSR in The Black Book of Communism. Werth is a research director at the Institut d'histoire du temps présent, affiliate to CNRS. Since the 2000s, all his books are financed by the Hoover Institution. In 2007, he was the historic consultant for the French television documentary film, Staline: le tyran rouge, broadcast on M6.

Premier conseil : ne surtout pas s'arrêter au sous-titre, probablement d'éditeur, sans autre lien que résiduel avec la démonstration. Il s'agit en effet essentiellement d'un commentaire sur la construction et l'évolution de l'appareil répressif en Union Soviétique. Pour ma part, celui-ci était souvent exhaustif, dans la mesure où j'avais connaissance de nombreuses données et n'avais pas forcément la patience pour les reprendre minutieusement. L'analyse est en revanche suffisamment pertinente pour que je prenne plaisir à la lecture approfondie de certains chapitres.
