The movie’s not over—because now, they’re in it… and it won’t let them out.
No parents. No rules. Just five friends, pizza, and a horror movie night that promises thrills and chills! What starts as a fun-filled night takes a frightening turn when the sinister terror reaches beyond the screen. As the flickering images come to life, an evil creature known only as THE BEING emerges, feeding off their fears as he hunts them through the darkness of their own home.
Trapped in a twisted, nightmarish version of the world they know, the friends must confront their deepest fears to survive. With tension rising and bonds tested, they navigate a terrifying adventure that blurs the line between reality and the movies they love.
Can they find a way back to their reality before it's too late, or will they be consumed by Terror Zone forever?
Ever wondered if a horror movie could slip through the screen and invade your home? Terror Zone answers that with a resounding—and terrifying—yes.
Five teenage boys settle in for a movie night of piracy (like Pirate Bay; let’s download movies and ADULT material), pizza, and banter, only for the film to become a gateway into the lair of a creature known only as The Being.
What I loved most was the balance—between the mystery of the creature, the surreal nightmare world, and the boys’ own personal struggles. Evan’s feelings of being left out? Relatable at any age. The Being’s appearances? Equal parts unsettling and fascinating. It’s a quick, pulse-pounding read that blends nostalgia with genuine suspense, like an 80s VHS dream/nightmare come alive.
By the time you turn the last page, you’ll be side-eyeing your TV screen. I’m not watching horror movies for a bit… SPECIALLY found footage… (I’m lying; I’ll probably watch one tomorrow while I work.)
P.S. If a friend has a huge house with a movie theater, just say no and stay home.
"Terror Zone" by is more of a young adult horror novella but don't let that fool you, it's a thrill to read right from the start. It takes place in modern day but feels like it would fit in the 80s or 90s. 5 friends just want to sit back and watch a horror movie when everything goes wrong. Its fast pace had me hooked from the start. It had elements of classics like IT, Stranger things and any young teen horror movie from the 80s and 90s.
I finished reading this one last week or so and had a lot of fun with it. The story revolves around a group of friends who unwittingly find themselves in the Terror Zone, trying to survive an encounter with THE BEING. It's a fairly quick read, and it wastes no time getting to the action. It reads like a cross between Stand By Me and The Twilight Zone, has plenty of humour and a good few tense moments. As a whole, it's not as heavy on the violence as I was expecting it to be, but that wasn't detrimental at all. I reckon this would be a perfect 'intro horror' for anyone who's looking to get into the genre without things getting too bloody. Oh, and I don't know how, but the story somehow captures that feeling of teenage nostalgia while having a more modern setting, so that was awesome too!
Go get yourself a copy, and when you're done reading it'll look awesome on your shelf. 'Cos come on, look at that gorgeous cover art!
Guess it's my own fault, I saw some review that likened this to "Stranger Things" and I neither like or watch that show. So, to me this was a just a bunch of annoying kids bitching back and forth and a dull monster to go along with them. It sounded like a great plot. It just needed more to go along with it. Likable characters and a decent story to start with.
🥊 The Book: No parents. No rules. Just five friends, pizza, and a VHS horror marathon—until the movie they’re watching starts watching them back. As the grainy flicker comes alive, The Being starts feeding on their fears and twisting their home into a nightmare realm. The crew has to face their deepest terrors and fight their way back to reality before they’re trapped in Terror Zone forever.
💪 The Bro: Pure 80s horror energy: Stand By Me meets The Gate with a splash of Stranger Things. It’s got that sleepover-pizza-sugar-high vibe where the scariest thing in the world is happening, but you still feel twelve again. The Being is creepy-cool, the scares hit that fun “kids-in-danger” sweet spot, and the cover alone should win a retro poster award.
⸻
🥊 ROUND 1: First Impressions • That cover? Chef’s kiss. Straight out of a mom-and-pop VHS rental store circa 1987. • The friendship dynamic nails that awkward, hilarious, fiercely loyal pre-teen energy. • You know it’s going to get crazy fast, and it does without wasting time.
⸻
🥊 ROUND 2: In the Thick of It • The Being’s appearances are memorable—more “80s monster movie” creepy than gorefest, which fits the tone perfectly. • Scare scenes feel like they’re pulled from the same vault as The Gate or Monster Squad. • Rogers keeps the pace snappy. There is no filler, just kids-versus-creature mayhem. • You can see this as a movie in your head the whole way through.
⸻
🥊 ROUND 3: The Home Stretch • The final act leans fully into the era it’s channeling, with a “freeze-frame ending” vibe you can practically hear the synth over. • Tension stays fun without going too dark—feels like something you’d have rented, watched with the lights off, then rewound to watch again.
⸻
🔥 FINAL BELL: The ARC Bro Scorecard 🔥 🥊 Unanimous Decision – A blast of pure horror nostalgia. Fun scares, a great friend group, and a monster that earns its spot in the pantheon of VHS-era baddies. Crack open a Coke, grab a frozen pizza, and hit play—you’ll feel like a kid again.
Such a creative story! I had a blast reading this one.
Terror Zone follows a group of 5 young boys who are looking for the scariest horror movie to watch for the evening. However, the movie they choose comes with a terrifying consequence. What would you do if you got sucked into one of the scariest horror movies and had to find your way out while managing to stay alive?
I love a good YA Horror story and this one really delivered. The dialogue between the young boys had me cracking up because it was pretty spot on in my opinion. This can easily be read in one-sitting, clocking in at 102 pages. I highly recommend this one!
Terror Zone is a nostalgic thrill ride with classic horror flair. Vince Rogers delivers an eerie, entertaining story where the tension builds steadily, and the scares hit just right. The group of friends at the center feels authentic, and the horror they face - both literal and psychological - makes the ride all the more gripping.
By the end, the tension was thicker than a mall food court milkshake. I was practically white-knuckling the pages. Creepy, clever, and fun. Fans of Stranger Things, It, and Super 8 will love this quick read.
A group of friends set out to watch a horror movie when things go horribly wrong!
This fast paced novella had me furiously turning the pages to see what happened next. The group of friends very much reminded me of the kids in Strangers Things or IT or even me and my own friends when we were young teenagers and talked mad trash to each other.
If you’re looking for a quick, action-filled read with a creepy monster, I definitely recommend it.
This book took me back to the early '90s, when I first started watching horror movies… and who doesn’t love a bit of nostalgia?
In Terror Zone, we follow a group of friends who just want to eat pizza and watch a scary movie. But things don’t go as planned when, all of a sudden, they find themselves being chased by a creature that feeds on their fears.
At around 100 pages, this book is a very quick and addictive read! Yes, it’s a creature feature, but for me, it was all about the kids. Not only do they deliver some funny moments, but they also bring an emotional side to the table.
Let’s just say it’s like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Stranger Things had a baby… born 30 years ago. And that sounds really good to me!
I enjoyed reading this book with its fun, adventurous story and nostalgic vibes. For me, it almost felt like if the Goonies were dropped into an episode of The Twilight Zone.
The story clips along at a fairly fast pace and definitely sucks you right in. It also delivers a likable cast of characters you will be rooting for as they face down a gnarly monster from another dimension.
If you are looking for a fun creature feature type read with reminiscence of your teenage years, then definitely make sure you check this book out. 4⭐️
Terror Zone is imaginative and filled with likeable characters. It was an entertaining read from start to finish! I felt uneasy as it started getting into it and from there, the story got increasingly intense.
This one had me racing through the pages to see what would happen next.. and I love the ending. Really enjoyed this one. It was fun and quick (102 pages - perfect for a one-sitting read)
If Terror Zone isn't already on your TBR, it should be!
This book was one of the most fun things I've read in ages! Everything about it felt like my own time in high school, plus, you know, a monster. Which, by the way, is also incredible and terrifying! Every one of these characters will remind you of yourself or your childhood friends and you will love them and cheer for them more as the book goes on. You definitely want to pick this one up!
