An okay read.
Although some of the dialogues and scenes were cringey asf but I think every Stella Gray book I've ever read has been kinda like that so it was kinda expected.
Also both main characters were not giving main character energy especially the MMC.
Aside that I did enjoy the plot as predictable as it was.

This is how it’s going to work, Miss Jasinski. We will date publicly, we will fuck privately, and any feelings you develop for me you will keep to yourself. Understood?”

The second I read the blurb to The Client, I knew it would be my first Stella Gray book. And having finished it, it certainly won't be my last.

This sounds like a darker story than it was. While it touches on some dark subject matter like trafficking, it doesn't go too detailed and so just grazes the gray-ish. Izabela was hoping a modeling contract in the US would be the answer to everything. With an aunt and uncle in Poland who are barely making ends meet to support her sick sister, every penny she earns goes to them. But while she heard whispers of the dark side of her modeling agency, she's never wanted to believe it. That is until she gets sold.

On the auction block, she gets sold to a man, but that's not who she ends up with. That would be the man's younger, devastatingly handsome billionaire son. And there's no love lost between him and daddy dearest. I must have spent half the book wanting to cock punch the eldest McConnell. Rhys is a jaded man, but given his history with his father, I can't say I blame him. He's attracted to Izabella and hates how he's drawn to her. While a virgin, luckily Izabella isn't the typical annoying virginal heroine. She's a touch naive but with a backbone and I found her gentle nature with a spine of steel so endearing. This is a woman who loves her family fiercely and would do anything for them.

The chemistry between her and Rhys was palpable. She's attracted to him beyond her understanding and he's determined to keep his heart out of it. The ending did feel a bit rushed in my opinion, but it was still super satisfying. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and need to read the rest of Gray's backlist now.

DNF Ugh, too predictable. I returned this book at approximately 35% because I had already figured out the story line. I did not see the strength other reviewers alluded too in Izabella and Rhys needed to grow up. The storyline was pretty standard for this type of novel....Polish girl comes to US (sister is sick) based upon a bogus Modeling Agency opportunity that is nothing but a cover for sex trafficking only to find out she has been dupped...drum role; and is forced to be auctioned off. The only twist in this part of the book was the fact Rhy's father buys her for six months as a consolidation prize for marrying his gf. Ugh, father marries your gf from under your nose and then provides you with a consolidation (trafficked woman) for six months. Nothing romantic or interesting about that. It just boils down to personal taste. I read allot and therefore expect fresh storylines and characters that actually resonate with me.

I am surprised at the number of positive reviews vs., the so-so reviews which chose not to comment. Interesting that Amazon ratings didn't have any of those reviews even accounted for on the book blurb. This story is basically a rinse and repeat of other stories written before by different authors with a few different twists, but basically the same plot. The writing and characters were okay, but neither of them "wowed" me. I read far too much to enjoy predictability unless you have several "got ya's" to get through the repetitive nature of the story.

The cover got a 1.00 rating out of 2. A decent cover gets readers to read the blurb. I need something beyond the cover (wrapping) with a good solid original storyline and memorable characters to keep my attention. Some people really liked this book. I am giving the author a pass on this one.

This book is an absolute page-turner! If you haven't checked out the Zoric family series, you'll definitely want to after reading this gem. Izabela, a new model at KZM, finds herself in a messy situation when she's auctioned off to the father of her ex-boyfriend. Cue the drama! To complicate matters, Rhys, the son, hires her, thinking she's a hired companion. But when the truth comes out, Rhys goes all out to set Izabela free, even if it means losing her. The chemistry between them is electric, and their emotional rollercoaster had me in tears. The ending is pure bliss, and seeing the villain get what he deserves was oh-so-satisfying. If you're a fan of the author's other works, this one is a must-read!

Izabela moves to America to be a model for KZM modelling, she needs to get the money for her sister’s medical needs and hope. She didn’t expect to be auctioned off for a night, but she couldn’t do a thing, or she wouldn’t get the money for her sister.
Rhys gets a present from his father that he despises, and is ready to send the woman away, until he sees something that stops him. When he sees Izabela, the next day not looking happy with his father he decides to stop it and help Izabela.
Rhys has never had any love for his father but his grandfather he does, he knows his going to take over the company, which his father won’t be happy about. Rhys’ father makes sure that he will ruin is son to get what he wants, will Rhys give up Izabela or the company he’s always wanted.

Billionaire romance? sign me up!

I loved reading about Rhys and Izabela’s relationship. Rhys had a lot of growing up to do emotionally in this book, and i was glad to see that he was clearly making strides towards it by the end of the book.

One thing I love about romances are side characters who support the progression of the story, I loved Eva and wish there was a little more of her in the book! Reading that she ended up being able to come to America to finally see that her sister’s “fairytale” came to fruition was heartwarming for me. I also loved the scene with Rhys and Izabela going to dinner at his mother’s. Would’ve been great to have more of her too!

Overall, this book was a fun and quick read for me! I was so excited to receive an ARC of it. I received a copy of this book via Paige Press and am leaving an honest review in return.

A bit to pat.

This is a smooth ride to the end with barely a wrinkle. Surprisingly so. Thought there would be many more problems. Unexpectedly tame. Yes, there are sex scenes, but not overdone like some books. Just could have been more tension with the ex. A few other opportunities failed to surface as well.

This is the first book I have read by Stella Gray. I liked her dual POV for Rhys and Izabela. The story was quick to develop and engross you with each character’s storyline. The physical chemistry between Rhys and Izabela was palpable. However, I did not feel the emotional connection develop. The “happy ever after” felt rushed and certain storylines incomplete. I enjoyed Stella Gray’s descriptive writing style and I will read more of her books.

I received an eARC of this book and it is my first time reading anything by Stella Gray. Billionaire romances aren’t my usual sub genre, but this was a great read. It was like Succession meets Pretty Woman. I really enjoyed Rhys and Izabela’s relationship growth as well as their personal growth. The spicy scenes in this book were top tier🥵 I’ll definitely be reading more of her books in the future!

If I hadn't just read the Zoric family series, I would want to after reading this book!

Izabela is one of the models at KZM, Konstantin Zoric Modeling, and is relatively new. And she's about to discover the seedy underside of this agency when she's put up for auction and sold to a man who drops her off at his son's house. Rhys has no idea his father was up to this and isn't happy with the surprise, especially because Izabela looks like his ex whom his father married while they were still together.

To make matters worse, Rhys doesn't know about the seedy side of the auction and just thinks Izabela is a woman for hire. He hires her for six months exclusively to keep her away from his father. But when the truth comes out, Rhys does what he can to get her out of her contract and to be her own free woman, losing her in the process.

Rhys and Izabela get their happy ending in this stand-alone book in a larger world.

The Zoric books really bush over this side of the business, rightfully so for what Stefan is doing and how little it affected the other two until it became public knowledge. But to see it from a model's perspective was great, especially because she went through what may have been typical for many. I loved that the other models Izabela initially lived with tried to make this as easy on her as possible, though I wonder how many of them were still going to auction regularly. I do wonder, was it the tip-off from Rhys that started it all, or was Stefan already starting to gather information to help bring down his father?

I received an advance review copy from Paige Press LLC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was lucky enough to receive an eARC for this book, and it was everything I could have hoped for! I loved both Izabella and Rhys so much! This is the first book I've read by Stella Gray, but it will 100% not be my last!

I'll be keeping my review spoiler free, not only because the book just officially came out last week, but also because you just need to experience this magnificent book for yourself. I've been talking about this book nonstop to my friends, and constantly recommending it to everyone in my book club. That's how much I loved this book! I was hooked very early on. I finished it in THREE DAYS! I honestly could have finished it way sooner, but I was enjoying it so much that I didn't want it to end.

I'm not even going to talk about certain characters because they're not wort wasting my precious breath over. But after you read this book, you'll know exactly who I'm talking about.

Izabella

I loved how much Izabella cared about her sister, aunt and uncle. The things she put up with just to make sure that they stayed safe, and in no danger were very brave of her.

"How easily the ownership of my body has transferred hands."
I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for her, since she was so far away. She was so strong, and she put those she cared about before her so many times. It was really commendable.

"How nice it must be, when your lies make you look like a hero."
Like???? How can you not love her!? She's seriously so strong, and I admire her strength.

Rhys

I fell in love with Rhys so quickly! I love brooding men in books, so this book was right up my alley.

"If I never care about anything, it won't hurt when it's taken away from me."
I loved that we got to see the reason for his behavior. After what he went through, I'm not sure many of us wouldn't act the same way.

I also loved that he helped Izabella, even if he didn't know it at the time.
"Just because they're paying you doesn't mean they own you. You aren't just a body."
"You've ruined me for all other cakes."
I'll say it again, I fell in love with Rhys!

The Spice

I've read a lot of spicy books, like A LOT! But omg this book had me feeling things! I wanted to change spots with Izabella so badly, just so I could experience Rhys because he knew just what to say!

"Take it all. Every last inch,"
"It's hard to talk when your mouth is full."

There's so many other quotes I wish I could add, but I'm not trying to get banned lol. Just trust me when I say that the spicy scenes will have you feeling things!

Conclusion
I already know this is one of those books where I'll go back and reread it again and again just because I loved it so much! Also because I need more of Izabella and Rhys. If you need me, I'll be adding the rest of the books in this series, as well as all her other books, to my Kindle. I really hope y'all enjoy this book as much as I did. Thank you again to the author and publisher for giving me an eARC of a book that will certainly be one of my favorite reads for this year!

Romantically written for such a sensitive topic

Izabelle is a naive young woman hoping for a miracle career to help her chronically ill younger sister. Instead she faces the auction block as a means of bringing in money beyond her modeling wages for her greedy employer who also holds her passport. When she is gifted to Rhys as part of a cruel ploy by his father, the stage is set for the twists and turns their relationship will take after Rhys who is unaware that she is being trafficked, decides to buy out her contract for six months.

The read was interesting but not a deep dive into the issue of human trafficking. Iza was fortunate that Rhys is at core a decent and compassionate human being. Otherwise the story might have more closely matched the horrible existence of trafficked people and be too triggering for some. Overall a read with a positive conclusion.

The Client is a sizzling contemporary romance between Rhys, a billionaire Vice President and soon to be CEO of his grandfather’s business corporation, and Izabela, a new model from Poland who finds her contract entails more than just fashion shoots and shows. She came to Chicago in order to make money for medical treatments for her younger sister, Eva, only to find she has to participate in an auction where she will have to stay the night with the buyer. Rhys’s evil father introduces him to Lizabela which begins their complex romance. This well written book by Stella Gray has amazing characters, deceit, drama, strong emotions, and sizzling chemistry. I highly recommend this addictive book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Izabela who is one of the models at KZM. She is one of the newest models and is about to discover that everything is not as it seems. She finds herself put up for auction then sold to a man who drops her off at his sons house. Rhys is the son and totally shocked that this has happened. He had not a clue what his father was up to and doesn't like the surprise of Izabela at all. It doesn't help one bit that she looks like his ex-girlfriend who his father married. He also thinks that she is a woman for her that his father hired and has not a clue what is going on in the modeling agency. But he is not about to let his father anywhere near her so he "hires" her for six months to keep him away. This book is great and filled with twists and turns and I really loved reading it and rooting all the way through for Izabela and Rhys. This is a book you do not want to miss.

Merged review:

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Rhys and Izabela. He is the Vice President but soon to be CEO of his grandfathers corporation that has made him a billionaire. Izabel is a model from Portland who won a modeling contest but ended up losing her freedom. This modeling agency is not like you would think it would be and likes to own the girls that are their models. They have auctions and none of the girls can ever say no. All she wanted to do was come to Chicago and make enough money to pay for her sisters medical treatments. This was not what she thought she was getting into. She was supposed to do fashion shoot, not spend nights in strangers houses for the highest bid. She meets Rhys when his evil and I do mean as bad as they come in human form, father introduces them. Rhys wants her, for six months he wants to spend all the time he can with him. He wants exclusive rights to her and she has no choice but to go along with this. She just never expected to ever not want to say no to him. This book is different and I loved that about this book. I loved Rhys and Izabel. This book will rip your heart out at times but hang in there because getting past that will take you someplace wonderful.

Sometimes you have to let the past go.

Rhys decided area years ago that he would never love someone again, that way it won't hurt when they eventually leave. When his father gives him a gift he tells him to take it a get out of his house. His father laughs him off and when Rhys goes to collect said gift from his room his father leaves without taking the gift with him. Rhys finds Izabela in his bed naked and tells her to get dressed, but she ends up convincing him to let her stay and fulfill the contract. Things end up getting very complicated when Rhys finds out what really brought Izabela to him. Now he wants to save her but he may have messed things up with her forever with the way he has been treating her. Find out if he can make all her fairytales come true.

Disturbing story! My heart broke for Izzy and her situation. It is scary to think this probably goes on in real life, as the news reports. I didn’t like the hero Rhys! Even when he thought maybe she was inexperienced, he treated her like she was trash. To me, I felt the author was trying to justify his pretty much raping her every time he was angry by saying she enjoyed it! Hard to believe that a girl in that position would be enjoying it! Plus, how could she not hate him! Please, fall in love with him! This book bothered me a lot! There is a difference between men being dominant and being an a**h***!

Izabella had won a modeling contest in Poland and came to the US in accordance with her contract only to find out she would be auctioned off to the highest bidder. She is a virgin and wasn't prepared for sex, but since Zoric threatened her sister in Poland she was afraid to disobey. Rhys' father bought her as a gift for his son, but they are not on good terms. Great characters! It takes Rhys a long time to see Izabella's worth other than a bed mate. Izabella is gutsy but terrified of doing the wrong thing. A very sensitive subject, human trafficking, but handled carefully in a romantic manner. Great book!!

I needed a palate cleanser and this was it

Short, not too complicated. I believe this is a prequel to The Zorics Trilogy which I am now excited to start.

Rhys was quite frankly a jerk most of the time but I lowkey loved him.

Izabela had my heart clenching and feeling sorry for her.
Overall a good read that helped me unwind.

OMG!! Page turner indeed! THE CLIENT is captivating, sexy, steamy, intriguing, intense, and dangerously addictive. I fell in love with the hero (Rhys McConnell). This is a powerful story of two people finding acquiescence with themselves and with one another. This story is a rollercoaster of emotions while at the same time it was unputdownable. This is Rhys McConnell and Izabela (Iza/Izzy) Jasinski‘s story.

Rhys is an enigma of a man who is very handsome, sexy, dominant alpha, VP of McConnell Enterprises, a billionaire, eligible bachelor, and he is being groomed by his grandfather to be the future heir of the business. “You’re the future CEO of McConnell Enterprises, and one of the country’s richest men under thirty!”

Izabela lives in Poland, and she won an international modeling contest hosted by KZM (Konstantin Zoric Modeling) Agency located in Chicago, IL. After Izabela’s parents died, she and her sister were raised by her aunt and uncle. Izabela believes she’s being brought from Poland to Chicago to become a big time model, and this would be an opportunity to send money back home to help her sister with her medical treatments as well as help her aunt and uncle. But her American dream quickly spirals into a nightmare. Unbeknownst to Izabela, there is more going on with KZM, the agency as well as her boss, Konstantin, than just modeling.

When Izabela meets Rhys through his father (Rupert McConnell), Rhys had no idea how his sleazy father happened to meet Isabela. Despite Izabela being naive, she is smart and a quick learner. Soon Izabela gets a backbone and she is a force to be reckoned with. Rhys is enamored with the feisty, sassy, and obstinate beautiful woman. “This is how it’s going to work, Miss Jasinski. We will date publicly, we will fuck privately, and any feelings you develop for me you will keep to yourself. Understood?” Regardless of the tumultuous event that brought Rhys and Izabela together, Rhys can still be arrogant, protective, and possessive of Izabela. “Mine. All mine.” Despite their differences, the explosive attraction and passion between them is unparalleled and intense—it is off-the-charts HOT! But with Rhys still set on an unwavering quest to find out what his father and Konstantin are up to, Izabela is now a pawn caught in the crosshairs. Izabela must find a way to save herself from the new “modeling status/auction” or risk losing the two things she has left: her life and her family. What happens next? Well, read this amazing story and find out—you won’t regret it! This story is entertaining and fervent, with a dash of dreams coming true. Stella Gray manages to weave plot lines centered on romantic ideas with artfully developed main characters. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
