About the author

Liyanage Amarakeerthi (W. A. Liyanage) received his primary and secondary education at rural schools in Kurunegala district entering the university of Colombo in 1990 where he received a BA. In 1998, Amarakeerthi went to the university of Wisconsin on a Fulbright Scholarship for his postgraduate studies. On completing an MA in Literature in 2000, he was funded by the university of Wisconsin for his doctoral work under Prof .Charles Hallisey. After obtaining his PhD in 2004 he moved to Cornell University on a teaching appointment where he also attended the School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell University.
He joined university of Peradeniya in 2008. During his postgraduate studies he was able to take a host courses in literature, literary theory, theories of drama, translation theory, theories of aesthetics, film Studies and so on. He has published more than 15 books of fiction, poetry and literary theory. He won national literary award for the ‘best' collection of short stories in 2000 and for the ‘best' novel in 2008. At Peradeniya he teaches courses in literary theory, translation Studies, postcolonial theory, theories of drama, and Aesthetics.

"සිව් වැනි බිත්තිය" අතික්‍රමණය කළ අපූරු නවකතාවකි.
දර්ශනවාදී , පැවතුම්වාදී අදහස් වලින් පරිපූර්ණ වූ නවකතාවකි.
"පො‌ත් සමාජයක" සාමාජිකයින්ට සාකච්ඡාවට බඳුන් කළ හැකි බො‌හෝ‌ දේ අන්තර්ගත වූ නවකතාවකි.

මට අනුව දැනුන ලො‌කුම අඩුපාඩුව වූයේ චරිත සහ ඔවුන්ගේ සමාජයීය ස්ථානගතකිරීම් වල තිබූ නිරායාසයෙන් තො‌ර වූ උපක්‍රමශීලී ලක්ෂනයි.

උදාහරණයක් ලෙස ගතහො‌ත් වුඩී ඇ‌ලන් නම් ප්‍රකට සිනමා අධ්‍යක්ෂකවරයාගේ සමහර සිනමා කෘති , ජනතා සහ විචාරක යන දෙගො‌ල්ලන්ගේම ප්‍රසාදයට ලක් වන ඒ‌වාය. ඉන් ශේෂ වන ඔහුගේ අනෙකුත් නිර්මාණ සමහර විට එක් පාර්ශවයක් පමණක් කැමති ඒ‌වා වන අතර, පාර්ශව දෙකම අප්‍රසාදය පල කරන නිර්මාණ ද ඒ‌ අතර තිබේ.

මේ නවකතාව ගැන මට ඇ‌ති අදහසත් , වුඩී ඇ‌ලන් ගේ ඒ‌ක පාර්ශවීය ප්‍රසාදයට ලක් වූ චිත්‍රපටයක් ගැන ඇ‌තිවන හැඟීමකි.

වැදගත් කරුණ නම්, ඇ‌ලන් ගේ හැම චිත්‍රපටයකම වාගේ ගතයුතු යම් දෙයක් තිබීමයි.
අමරකීර්ති මහතාගේ සියලුම නවකතා ගැන මට ඇ‌ත්තේද එවන් අදහසකි.

කතාව ගැන සාරංශයක් ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමට බලාපො‌රො‌ත්තු නො‌වන අතර , වෙනස්ම ආ‌ඛ්‍යාන රටාවකට රචිත මේ නවකතාව කියවීමට යෝ‌ජනා කරමි.

මා විසින් මේ වනවිට සිංහල නවකතා ඉතා අල්පයක් කියවා තිබෙනවා. ඒ අතරින් මා සිත්ගත් කතා ශෛලියක් මෙම නවකතාවේ මම අත්දුටුව. විවිධ චරිත ඔස්සේ කතාව ගලනා ආකාරයත් අවසානයේ ඇති ප්ලොට් ට්විස්ට් එකත් එයට බලපානව.

I know the above looks like a translation but that's how my words came out on this Sunday evening as I finished reading this book while sipping a glass of wine. I love how the author has given several endings for the reader to choose based on our preference. It's a different kind of book. I'm glad I got to read it.
