Author Lonnie Busch has a way with words. His stories, no matter how short, have your heart pumping, your mind racing, and your emotions on high alert. Whether missing Walter in “White Bull” or laughing and cringing throughout “Over the Top” Busch finds a way to ensconce readers and fully immerse us in his plots, no matter how many pages they span.
“Push Me” is Busch’s newest collection of short stories. Embodying themes surrounding love, loss, and feeling, readers will undergo an immense range of emotions as we work our way through this compilation. Stories such as “A Stonemason on Ocracoke” which has an intriguing method of switching between husband and wife, paragraph by paragraph as they play off each other’s thoughts despite the metaphorical distance between them. To “Over the Top” which shares a story of an artist fighting their critic in what is certainly a sequence of events many artists fantasize about when bad reviews come in. Even the title story, “Push Me,” invites fantasies into reality as one man weighs his present. It is this ability by Busch to summon such strong, widely ranging emotions that makes him a master of his craft.
Each read left me yearning for more and yet looking forward to what he came up with next. Using significant concepts and themes, relatable characters and emotions, Busch’s short stories housed within “Push Me” is just another example of his extraordinary talent. Sparking thought, reflection, and deep-rooted understanding, these feisty stories are an exceptional addition to any bookshelf.
Push Me is a compilation of short yet well written stories. Each one is full of meaning and definition. Most importantly every story has a chilling or thought provoking ending. Which is the art of an excellent writer. Lonnie Busch takes you on quite a few emotional rollercoasters as you delve into the book of Feisty Stories of Love & Loss.
A prank amongst friends turns bad, a little too much alcohol, and pleasurable moments… are just a few plots that will keep you reading. The characters are relatable and they all come to life. The Author pours out his ability to tell a deep story within a few pages. Every story in this book is as good as the next one.
I recommend reading this book regardless of any preferred genre one may like, it will keep readers intrigued. The attention to details and character roles will definitely keep you absorbed. Every narrative is well crafted. Lonnie Busch has done a remarkable job of writing this compilation of short stories in PUSH ME.

This is more like 3.5 stars, rounded up. All 19 of the stories in this collection are well-written even though some of them missed the mark for me. These stories are generally compelling and original and some were pretty weird, mostly in a good way but not always. There were 4 standout stories to me that I really loved, "Alley Fighter", "Princess Of Hub Cap City", "Another Man's Gold" and "A Stonemason on Ocracoke". Overall, I really enjoyed this collection and am grateful that I got the opportunity to read it!
This a novel of short stories some were very good but just when I was getting into the story line, the next story was up. Thank you to Goodreads for this book.
