Ooof! Ever Dark had me on my toes from start to finish! I only put this book down when I absolutely had to.
I'm a sucker for just one bad boy with a devil's grin and a chip on his should, and M. Violet gifted us with three! Draven, Bones and Aries. *swoon* And honestly, they're so much more than bad boys, they're bad men. Very bad, devastatingly handsome men. Who do and have done very bad things. They're powerful and ruthless, and have the fear of everyone in Ever Graves. Except its newest resident, Mia Harker, our gorgeous, smart, determined MFC with her very own Nightmare demon, Nox.
Mia has returned to Ever Graves to claim her inheritance, much to the surprise of the entire town, after being thought dead for years. With the passing of her grandmother, Harker Mansion along with all its darkness, mysteries and secrets, is now hers. But she desperately wants, and needs, to find the answers to questions surrounding those mysteries, and a family she never knew. Putting the scattered, broken pieces of her past back together isn't an easy task, and our three out of four MMC's aren't helping matters at all. It's a good thing she's been living half her life in a real nightmare (gotta read it to find out!) and isn't scared of much.
Ever Dark was my introduction to the world of Melancholia, and is full of sinfully delicious, well developed characters, a demon with multiple forked appendages 🫠, an original and engaging plot with twists and an ending I did not see coming. M. Violets prose is beautiful, and I've put all her other books on my TBR. I highly recommend listening to the playlist she's provided as it really fits the tone and mood of the book.
This steamy story is a why choose with four MMC's, found family, set in a small town, dark gothic romance and has very dark themes within its pages. Bullying, düb-cøn, murder, somnophilia, enemies to lovers and drug use to name a few. So, as with all books I review, I urge you to read the trigger and content warnings provided by the author before proceeding. Your mental health matters and isn't work risking over the content of a book.
And finally, the reason y'all read these reviews, my rating(s) for some very particular content, spice, horror, gore... 😈 Ever Dark does have some mild (imo) horror vibes but I'm focusing on just the spice today. There was a lot of plot in this tale, but it had equal parts hot and yummy smüt that got started pretty early on, so I'm giving this 5⭐ read a spicy 5 outta 5 🌶️'s. I can't wait to read more from the Nocturnus series, and I hope you love book one just as much as I do!! Drop a comment down ⬇️below⬇️ and tell me what you thought of Ever Dark!! ☺️
