Off to Kyoto—the land of Shino’s roots!Masamichi was brought back from the brink of death when he made a deal with Shino, a hauntingly beautiful specter. Though the young man committed to a life of servitude and being snacked on, he is surprisingly happy. He eats well, lives comfortably, and even his studies have become more interesting. But his pleasant, predictable days are interrupted when Shino announces a sudden trip to Kobe, plus a brief stop in Kyoto. The enjoyable diversion takes a turn for the worse when darkness from Shino’s past appears in the present.
I really love it that with this volume we learn more about Shino's past. Moreover, a character that might truly bring trouble to Shino and Masamichi appears! However, the pace just picks up in the latter half. Despite the information about Shino that it also contains, the first half feels more like the author indulging in writing about Shino and Masamichi having, ahem, interactions, that are "not totally BL", lol. And one thing that still kind of bugs me is how... innocent Masamichi is. I know he's from the inaka but he's no longer a child or a teen... but I guess there's a stereotype of characters like him in books involving male-male attraction like this.
Too expensive for the page count. But the story is entertaining as always. We also learn a bit more about the characters and their backgrounds. I would have liked it if it were about a "case" like previous books, a bit more. On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
