Discover the remarkable life of Wild Bill Hickok... Free BONUS Inside!
Among the legendary heroes and outlaws of the Wild West, few names echo louder than that of Wild Bill Hickok. Wild Bill wasn’t just a name whispered in saloons or shouted on the stage of Buffalo Bill’s world-famous Wild West shows. Long before he stepped onto any stage, Wild Bill had carved his path in blood, sweat, and gunpowder. He was a Civil War scout who could read the vast plains like a map, a fearless marshal who faced down lawlessness, and a frontier sheriff whose very name sent ripples through the towns he protected.
Wild Bill didn’t even get to reach 40, but he experienced more in his short life than most do in a century. This book explores his early roots, his rise to prominence, and his tragic death in the infamous Wild West town of Deadwood over a mere game of cards. This is the life and legend of Wild Bill Hickok in full.

Hourly History offers free e-books every week. Each of the books take about an hour to read and the smaller topics are really quite good. The series is good for things you want to know more about, but you don't want to read a 400 page book on the topic.
There is probably a large book about Wild Bill Hickock (1839-1876), but I don't want to read it. This length made for a perfectly enjoyable and interesting read.
Hickock started out fighting in the pre-Civil War Bleeding Kansas conflict on the anti-slavery side, worked as a guide, a hunter, a sheriff, and eventually ended up being shut in the back of the head while playing poker in Deadwood in the Dakota Territory by a man who was too afraid to fight Hickock in a duel.
Among the surprises in this brief book about the rollercoaster ride that was Hickok's life is just how brief that life was. Famous as a scout, gunslinger, sheriff, actor, and for dying while holding aces & eights, Wild Bill did more (good & bad) than most do with twice the time. Well researched with a bibliography, this will give you a *helicopter view" of the life & exploits of Wild Bill Hickok.
Every kid wanted to be Wild Bill Hickok, growing up
Every kid wanted to be Wild Bill Hickok, growing up, and now we know why. His life seemed to epitomize the essence of what constituted wild West behavior that the authors have picked and locked in on to c present us readers with our choice . Well done.
The story about Mr. Nickok is interesting and as the book states he is still admired to the date. I would recommend this book for young people to read as to when Justice is delayed but in the end justice was served!
I knew a little about the legendary Wild Bill Hickok but I did not know how tumultuous his short life was. Among other things he was a gambler, gunslinger, showman and a lawman. The book was an enjoyable read.
When you hear the name, Wild Bill Hickok, the Wild West comes alive. The man as this piece shows was truly an American Legend. This little glimpse into his life shows some of his exploits. I find this book to be an interesting and enjoyable reading.
Good summation of the life and death of this legendary figure from the Wild West. I don’t think anyone could call him heroic, but it did embolden many characteristics of the time.
There was no mention of Calamity Jane who was Hickok's close friend and girl friend. The two are burried next to each other in Deadwood. I enjoyed the race through Bill's life.
History buffs and those who love a good western will enjoy thus book. Well written. The facts are presented like a good story, which makes it fun and entertaining. There are also good references at the end for those who want to know more. Well done!
The Wild West has no place for sisses. Interesting story with people with very little concern for others. People seem to be freer to move around without close family ties.
