Desire is an addiction that could destroy them all.

Cy’ren Rising, Book 2

The second son.

Lieutenant Commander Jace Harrow is the second son of House Morningstar—the spare, not the heir. Armored with an arrogant mask, Jace keeps the world at arm’s length to protect those around him from becoming targets for his bloodthirsty brother.

The broken sword.

Lieutenant Bryn Viera was a shadow sword and a decorated officer, dedicated to protecting her people. But for the past five years she has lived as a slave and has the scars to prove it. Bryn vowed to escape or die trying—until she met Sabine.

The slave.

Born into slavery, Sabine never expected to fall in love. Her feelings for Bryn sparked her desire for a new life, but now Sabine is in phase, consumed by the need to mate with a male. Her dream of freedom with Bryn is on the brink of destruction, for to deny the phase means death.

Thrown together by the unforgiving demands of the phase, they must unite to save Cyprena’s people from a deadly new bioweapon—or be destroyed by the scars of their pasts.

Contains an arrogant officer with a weakness for having his hair pulled, an insatiable empath, and a badass warrior woman who form a male-female-female threesome sizzling enough to melt your shields.

Good but I needed more

While I enjoyed the book, it took me quite a while to warm up to the hero considering the actions that he took in a previous book. I think that while this was a good installment in the series, I needed more. I wanted to really believe in the romance of the three characters, and to some extent I do, but I needed more written about them. It just felt like something was left behind.

I felt as though the romance was short changed.

The plot, however, is excellent! There are so many horrifying consequences and twists and turns. I am very excited to go on to the third book.

I loved this star wars style adventure, with ex slaves who are bionic hackers, stolen princesses, laser fighting mixed with some steam. It's rather like a video game in written form. The hs are lovers and rescued slaves - one is a lost princess and the H is second son at risk of being murdered by his older the brother, the heir. So lots of tropes, in a very fast paced and entertaining story. One of the hs is in phase so lots of mating, interspersed with humour. It was a lot of fun and I loved it.

After reading the previous book in the Cy'ren Rising series, Nightfall, I was left greatly anticipating this next installment and my anticipation was richly rewarded. From its exciting outer space battles that left you on the edge of your seat and your pulse pounding, to the political intrigue tearing families apart, this story moved at a quick yet immensely satisfying pace. Throw in lots of super steamy sexual interludes between an intriguing trio of emotionally battered individuals and you end up with a decadently delightful sci-fi feast for the imagination.

Jace is the second son in House Morningstar and as such is arrogant, commanding, and used to the finer things in life. His home life isn't perfect though as his brother is obsessed with inheriting their family's wealth which has put Jace's life in constant jeopardy as well as anyone he cares about. Fear has kept him alone and refraining from claiming a mate. When his current mission leads to the rescue of numerous sex slaves though his life completely changes as the powerful pheromones of his people has him desperate to claim the delicate and bruised Sabine along with her fiercely loyal lover Bryn. In an unexpected twist for his House he claims both of them which leads to danger as their pasts come to light and as the deceit of House Nightfall continues to be discovered. It also leads to a triad based on love, respect, unquestionable loyalty, and LOTS of scorching interludes. Jace is a loyal man who's saved himself for the right woman. It's a wonderful facet to his character and made him even more endearing. He was very serious-minded early on but Bryn and Sabine brought out a playful side that made their encounters even more satisfying.

Bryn was once a shadow sword, a powerful warrior fighting alongside other soldiers when she was made a slave. Her rebelliousness led to numerous beatings with the scars still apparent. She was also sterilized which is the cruelest thing that can be done as their species is heading towards extinction. She braved all of it with strength and with her love for Sabine. Bryn is someone that loves to take care of others and having Sabine kept her going and fighting for their freedom. She sees Jace as a threat at first but their love for Sabine binds them and their mutual admiration for each other has their connection deepening even further. Jace sees her as an equal when it comes to fighting and he trusts her to keep Sabine safe from any threats from his brother which allows him to finally accept happiness. Bryn is a remarkable heroine who fights tooth and nail for those she loves. She's been through so many physical and emotional beatings but never weakened, she kept protecting others like the true warrior she honed herself into being.

Sabine is not as compelling as her mates as she's quieter and weaker through the circumstances of her life. She's always been a slave and is unaccustomed to fighting for what she wants. She counts on Bryn and Jace for her happiness and her safety. When it comes to sexual appetites though her being in phase leaves her insatiable and jumping Jace and Bryn whenever possible. For her species being in phase is their time to conceive and find a mate and gives us our first glimpse of Jace losing control over his tightly-wound nature which promises a future full of sex and unexpected changes. Sabine is sweet with a sensual and playful side who brings calm to both her mates from a world full of chaos. Once her past comes to light though the ramifications promise to be intriguing and will greatly influence what comes next.

This was an exhilarating story that kept me fully immersed in the twists and turns of political intrigue and the battle waging between the haves and the have-nots. The deceit from House Nightfall continues to keep everyone on edge and battling to discover the truth before a bioweapon is unleashed. The action is fast paced in a sci-fi world vividly depicted to keep readers fully immersed in the battles in both outer space and at home. The main characters along with the secondary ones are memorable with unique personalities with pasts that have you rooting for them to finally find their HEA. This was a wonderful addition to the series that can be read on its own, but with such talented storytelling each book isn't to be missed and I'm again left greatly anticipating the next installment.

If you're in the mood for a Ménage alien space story where a sexy warrior and her empathic mate (who's in heat) get rescued from their life as sex workers by the second son of a ruling family...then look no further.

Years of slavery have depleted the female population of Cy'ren females to the point that having more than one female mate is now considered a symbol of wealth and status. Even though Jace Harrow, second son of House Morningstar, has enough wealth to support mates, he has yet to choose even one The dangerous political situation in his home city has resulted in multiple assassination attempts, and he's reluctant to allow his enemies to have a mate to target as well.

Bryn and Sabine have been mated for over two years, but their status as sex slaves leaves them with no rights or life outside of the brothel where they are forced to live. When Sabine's breeding phase started over a year ago, their master refused to allow her to mate with a Cy'ren male, quickly learning that her body's need for sexual satiation allowed him to partner her with men she would have previously refused.

When Jace, a Lieutenant in the resistance, rescues the brothel slaves while on a mission, it doesn't take him long for Sabine's pheromones to draw his attention. As a Cy'ren male, it is his duty and right to claim Sabine as a mate, but she refuses to accept a man that won't mate Bryn, a former warrior, as well.

Despite their unusual circumstances, the three develop a bond that quickly grows beyond mere sexual satisfaction. Just when Jace begins to hope for happiness and a break from his previously lone existence, the treacherous actions of House Nightfall come to a head. As and secrets from both Bryn and Sabine's pasts are unearthed, they threaten the newly mated triad's lives in unexpected ways.

MORNINGSTAR is fast paced, with a dramatic and adventurous story line, sizzling sexual chemistry, and complex characters. A well written and sensual sci-fi erotic romance with a perfectly balanced ending, it left me satisfied but also eagerly anticipating Sunsinger's upcoming release!

While MORNINGSTAR can technically be read as a stand-alone story, I highly recommend readers start with Nightfall, as the characters and political plotline spans the entire series, and having previous understanding of the culture will greatly enhance the overall reading experience.

I have to admit there was something quite intriguing about Jace Harrow that caught my attention in Nightfall. I was so very pleased that he got his own very sexy pair of mates in Morningstar. The Cy’ren are still fighting for their rights as free citizens. Many would like to see the majority of this race to remain firmly in archaic way of slavery. Jace and many aboard the Talon II have dedicated their life to liberating those forced into slavery.
In searching for answers to exactly what the Eppes are plotting and more knowledge as to what the Lazarus project is Jace finds that his current mission has him doing more that his duties as a soldier. In rescuing survivors he saddles himself with not one but two mates. One mate he is more than eager to take, the other he will have to fight to prove himself a good man every step of the way.
Trust is something that Bryn doesn’t give to just anyone. She also does not give it easily or freely. When Jace shows interest in Sabine’s phase it instantly raises all off Bryn’s hackles. She sees Jace and his offers as just another form of slavery, trading one master for another. As a warrior female who has claimed Sabine as her own she knows she has everything she needs to take the best care of her mate.
Sabine was a little difficult for me to love as a character. I won’t label her as weak. She is a product of the life that has been forced on her. That has made her needy to a certain extent. The effects of the phase have taken her needs to a whole new level. The benefits of the phase are that it takes the hotness of the Cy’ren Rising series into the sexy zone of erotic romance.
I completely love this series. The action is exciting, the sabotage and political conspiracies are intense, and the romance is hot. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. The climatic ending to Morningstar gives a few hints as to what will be happening to this sexy trio’s lives, along with who the next trio will be.

This SF romance features a race called the Cy'ren and is second in a series.

The tale mainly focuses on two women who have been forcibly enslaved in a space station brothel. At the start a troop ship is attacking the station and the women manage to escape. Bryn is a former fighter and leads others to safety aboard the ship, while her mate Sabine was drugged and shows a bad reaction to what she was given. They just have to hope the ship's medics can help.

This is a wholly convincing on-board experience as all the details combine to make us feel we are living on that ship. The female captain is a formidable lady more concerned with plans for a bioweapon than the dregs of the galaxy washing up on her ship.

Soldier Jace, who is a scion of House Morningstar, becomes enamoured of Sabine but the two courageous girls do not want to be separated. They may have no choice however. Females of their race are now few so their rights have been limited in an attempt to preserve the race.

The romance incudes partner-swapping and vampirism so may not suit everyone. However the zombies being created by a bioweapon were less to my taste, so there is something for everyone who likes SF.

This series was my first outing in this genre. I first found “Nightfall” and I was hooked. Although it is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.

Moringstar focus on Jace Harrow- the swarthy Lieutenant Commander. He did come off as stoic and a bit arrogant at first- but that was just the surface; underneath he is a maelstrom of passions.

As well as being a very erotic tale, the back story is enough to satisfy any sci-fi geek girl.

There is plenty of excitement in this space opera; in and out of the bedroom. There is explicit sex and threesomes, but nothing vulgar. It is all done tastefully with emotional romantic ties.

It is a brilliant series an I can’t wait for Sunslingers, just to see what happens next.

If you're not into threesomes, this book isn't for you. While the sex between the three main characters isn't too graphic, there is definitely a lot of sex. Oh, and there is intrigue and attempted murder, too.
