I just love this series, as the characters are all so young yet so heroic, and they don’t let anything stop them from doing what is right and what they feel is their duty to do. They also all watch each other’s backs. Sam is the fearless leader of the group, but he is mindful of Edgar, the guild master, and forever grateful to be granted this second chance by the goddess to save Westria and those he loves and cares for. In this book Sam, Toby and Klara face many challenges and tribulations yet again, the only difference being that Sam usually has a foreknowledge of what is to come, however he is realizing that due to his interference in stopping certain disasters from taking place, the future is changing too, and he seems to be in for a few surprises which needed him to be on constant alert. They had to save Serenia which had fallen under the tyranny of Commander Krakanos and the Leviathan Network, then to travel on to the shores of Opali to rescue Queen Alice Grace from her abductor Dante Sylvaris. This had been their true mission but when their help was needed on the way, our heroes felt duty bound to intervene. This adventure is heartbreaking in the fact that many of the group had to go on separate paths, and they all feared they might not see each other again. This was particularly difficult for Edgar to leave his new wife and baby behind. I love that they all care so much for one another, but even more so for their country which is being threatened by the new travelers arriving and turning rogue. This book is exciting right through and ends on a cliffhanger so makes me want book 5 in hand immediately!!

I was a bit disappointed with Sam in this book. In his first battle sequence, he used the exact same technique to conquer a second foe that would have been aware, since he had just used it. Then, we had insights and discoveries that were just a bit too deus ex machina to be believed.

There should have been a much more significant buildup of foreshadowing between Sam’s mysterious past, and origins, and some of the events in this book. Instead, I was left with simply rolling my eyes at how convenient it was for Sam to have a random insight and then be told that maybe it was linked to his origin.

Having said that, I did love how Sam and company worked to advance, and improve, so that when they had to face the climactic challenges of this story, they were able to wipe the floor.

I do have to wonder how “evil” Dante truly is. Does he perhaps merely have something more akin to an ability to see the flow of Fate without the martial prowess to effect change quite as efficiently as Sam? Could they both be working for the same thing, just using different skills? Or is he just a crazy jerk who is trying to toy with Sam?

Second Chance Swordsman 4

Sam was sent back in time to prevent the Demon King from wiping out all life in the planet with an excellent pool of knowledge of exactly how things got so bad. He has worked hard to change things to give the planet a chance. However, everything that he has changed separated his new timeline from the old disastrous one. Now a criminal organization of rogue Travelers have taken over the southern seas. This didn’t happen last time.

This is a great example of a time travel litrpg! The action is too notch and the characters are very likable. I really enjoy that his knowledge of the future is getting less useful and reliable as the series goes. I think that’s a good counter to such a huge advantage and makes sense in the story.

Generic power fantasy

The heading says it all.

It's a generic hack and slash. The whole book felt like a 9th graders power fantasy.

Also, why on earth does he have a class of death knight. Which gives him blood powers when he already has a blood power class? Just seems convoluted and lazy.

The first book made the series seem promising. Which prompted me to read the second one which was mediocre but I have it a pass as it was "debeloping" and the third one was "okay." But this one was a total fall off and for me it's a sign of a dead end series.

It honestly made me unfollow the author in order to avoid their future works.

What a fantastic book. Book 4 does not let you down as Sam the character the title is actually referring to, let's his fists fly. He's now at a journeyman tier level and his team are not going to be left behind by their best buddy, and both are well on their way of catching up. Plus bk4 purdy much starts where the last bk ended. Giving a perfect segue into this action-packed litRPG.
I love Sam, Kara, Toby, and yes even grumpy old Edgar Redfield the guildmaster, they set off to adventure, swearing to save their Queen and friend ❤! And yeah Sam's so very disappointed that he and Queen Alice hadn't gotten to their first date yet!
Grab the book to find out where their quest takes 'em.

Exacting Adventure

Another battle looms against those who would harm others with so much clever use of abilities to survive and save others this series always has a good feel to it and another load of insight into the events leading up to the final battle.

Sam has lost his love. Kidnapped by enemies, he must rescue her. Unfortunately many obstacles must be overcome. Battle, training, dungeon delving, and relationships ensue. I like the action, humor, intrigue, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

Good

Nice continuation of the series. Power ups are getting a bit slower. New factor introduced that makes the story more interesting.
