If you love second chance romances, then dive right into On One Condition by K. Bromberg. This is book two in the S.I.N. series, but can easily be read as a standalone. It’s about three identical triplet brothers who grew up wealthy with all the perks including guidance from their father in how to succeed in business. The father passed away recently, and the three Sharpe brothers continue his legacy and are at the top of their game building luxury, high-end resorts.
In book one, The Last Resort, Callahan meets his now wife, Sutton, when the former playboy and more slacker of a brother was sent to one of their properties in the Virgin Islands with the directive to fix the problems or he’s out of the family business. Of course he does a bang up job and gets the girl, and now it’s his brother, Ledger’s turn to fall.
As teens, the three brothers summered in Cedar Falls, Montana, and it is during that time that Ledger met Asher Wells, our sweet small-town girl with a big heart and even bigger dreams. For three summers they were young lovers until something unexpected happens and they never see each other again. Both were left bewildered and heartbroken, never to speak again until 15 years later.
The author drew me in from the very beginning and I loved their entire journey from the first page to the last. I truly believe what happens in your past shapes who you are as adults, and Ledger never forgot the one who got away. I am a sucker for small-town romance, and Asher never saw him or judged him as the son of billionaire. Their pull is instant and while they are hesitant, they can’t help but want to get to know one another again, and finally get the closure and answers they need.
I admired her trying to keep a distance and his persistence in trying. The story is artfully told with flashbacks into the past in dual points of view, and it was really beautiful to read how they openly communicated and moved forward with forgiveness and hope, even after learning the devastating truth of what tore them apart.
Ledger is only in town for two months to follow-up on the final phase of their latest resort, which gives them plenty of time for long walks in the lavender fields that her family owned and was recently passed down to her. But he’s not staying and she knows she can’t survive her heart being shattered for the second time, but they can't deny their feelings. Their lives are so vastly different, yet when they are together, nothing else matters.
Asher was strong, beautiful and resilient. Rejected by the town because of her mother’s actions, she held her head high even when she was deeply hurting. I loved her passion and growth and how she never expected or asked anything of Ledger. I loved her drive and loyalty to her grandparents who raised her, and her vision and perseverance for her family business, The Fields, that desperately needs to turn a profit.
Ledger was a planner. He was smart and rigid and really had no life outside of work and his time with his brothers. He was the city boy, had the best education, and was raised to be focused and goal oriented. Asher bought a softness to him. He slowed down, was more relaxed and completely content with her by his side. There are sweet dates, a big romantic gesture, and all kinds of steamy sexy times as these two reconnect and they realize no one else in their 15 years apart could ever compare. Their connection never faded or lost its spark. She loved him for him, not the billionaire businessman, but the man standing before her in the lavender fields.
These two did not have it easy and the author will take you on their journey as they reveal secrets that only bring them closer. I loved how they worked through the past and how even though their lives were so vastly different now, that they were able to work it out. Love the meaning of “On One Condition”–that you’ll love me forever.
Asher had her guard up through most of the book–her mother, teen Ledger, and pretty much the entire town rejected her. It was emotional to read how she had been beaten down by life, but our girl doesn’t compromise her values and finally gets her own HEA with an epilogue that had me smiling from ear to ear. You will be routing for her the entire time and wishing you could be her friend in real life. I love a fierce heroine who isn’t pretentious, isn’t afraid of hard work, and wants to make it on her own.
I loved Ledger’s relationship with his brothers and all their witty banter and support of one another. I highly recommend The Last Resort featuring Callahan and Sutton, On One Condition featuring Ledger and Asher, and Final Proposal coming soon, featuring Ford, the last brother to fall.
