From the author of Returning to No Applause, Only More of the In the deadly Tutorial, an ex–pro gamer must face the consequences of his actions.
Lo Fennrick has been through Hell—literally. Surviving the levels of the Tutorial has been hard enough. His body has taken beating after beating, and his mind has disintegrated numerous times over. But on top of all that, it seems the gods have voted on his removal from the game, which would condemn him to an unknown future. Their aversion is hardly unexpected. After all, he’s already assassinated an emperor, murdered the king of Acheron, killed thousands of others, and eaten human flesh. Few would be disappointed if he suddenly exploded into a cloud of confetti.
And now rumors are swirling about a Tutorial-wide tournament, spanning all difficulty levels, all servers, and all floors. It’s the opening the human leaders who run the servers have been looking for to finally try Fennrick—PrissyKittyPrincess to them—for his crimes against both humanity and goblinkind. Defended by his lone friend, Moleman, he must thread the line between guilt and innocence as he simultaneously fights his way through the tournament and his own trial. His guilt is certain, but what of his punishment? With his stats at such high levels, can he even be executed?
With the entire world seemingly against him, Fennrick will fight off packs of drowned dogs, try out a paid internship, escape a pit of snakes, and maybe, if he’s lucky, make a few new friends along the way. All in a day’s work for the most hated man in the Tutorial . . .
The third volume of the hit LitRPG adventure series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!
3.5 Successfully navigates the transition into a longer series for Lo Fennrick, the disturbed antihero of this horror/comedy LitRPG series. The first book was wild and I quickly picked up the second just to see how far it would go. Well, pretty far. Fennrick has done some terrible things and the third entry marks the start of his homicidal hero's long journey towards redemption.
Fennrick is mentally ill and homeless degenerate who, once upon a time, was a former pro gamer. When he is pulled into a fantasy world in typical LitRPG fashion. He then proceeds to pick the hardest difficulty, troll the message boards, and 100% kill every character in his mission. Unfortunately, to everyone else, the magical goblin kingdom was pretty obviously a real place and that he was about to commit a goblin mass murder of nightmarish proportions. Now, in the third entry, Fennrick has to face his crimes, fight in a player tournament, mentor a young dragon, and become a pirate. The dragon story is probably the best, but my favorite part was the tournament. It's nice to see LitRPG mechanics get put to use.
The series has moved on a little bit from the tortured prose and successfully works its antihero into a larger world. I've been listening to the audiobooks narrated by Daniel Wisniewski, and he's great at reading them with the right amount of mania and dark comedy. A surprisingly strong fantasy series with a dark twist.
This is great as the first two, but it's starting to make me wish the MC had more growth or character development, I feel as if he has hardly changed form the person he was before all 3 books, and this book had me start to lose hope that he would ever change. That change being for the better or worse.
