A Deadly Legacy

Rate this book
The sixties. For some, a time of peace and love. For others, death and violence. On a humid September night in Orlando, Florida, 1968, a Jane Doe is draped over her bathtub, bleeding out into the drain. Federal Agent Michael Vale finds himself far away from home when thrust into an unconventional partnership with Charlie Harrington, a consultant to the F.B.I. personally assigned by Director Hoover to assist with the development of Behavioral Analysis.

Unbeknownst to either, a shadow lurks in the darkness, watching and waiting to unleash his “master act”.

Paul has lived his life upholding his father’s teachings—family is everything, family is your legacy. Everyone in his family has been tainted, and this is his final chance to ensure that his father’s legacy is either worthy to join him or, like the others, be cleansed or contained.

As Paul’s “master act” unfolds, unexpected alliances will form, relationships will wilt and bloom, and the family tree will be shaken to its core.

Marcia Honeycutt Roseman’s debut novel, A Deadly Legacy, is a thought-provoking murder mystery that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. The story weaves an intricate web of secrets, unexpected character connections, and hidden truths that unravel in a compelling and satisfying way.

What sets this novel apart is its unique narrative style, which adds depth to both the plot and characters. The pacing is steady, making it an easy read while still maintaining a sense of intrigue. The twists are well-placed, keeping the mystery fresh without feeling forced.

One of the novel’s strongest elements is its cast of characters, whose relationships and personal histories intertwine in surprising ways. Just when you think you have the mystery figured out, new revelations shift your perspective.

While A Deadly Legacy is an impressive debut, there are moments where the story could have delved even deeper into certain character motivations. However, this minor critique doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the book.

For fans of engaging, well-crafted mysteries, this novel is definitely worth picking up. I’m giving it four stars and looking forward to what Roseman writes next!

Really interesting and clearly well-researched novel. It blends murder mystery with education on feminism and what really went on behind closed doors in that era. DEFINITELY check out the trigger warnings as I was caught off guard by a few scenes, but overall it was a great read.
