A Trespass of Angels #1

Shadows of the Fallen

Their relationship? Complicated.
Their chemistry? Irresistible.
Their enemies? Biblical.

Petra is the only one of her kind—a telekinetic supernatural with a tragic past, questionable judgment, and the subtlety of a thrown grenade. After spending three years wiping an evil corporation off the map (long story, lots of fire), she and Jesse can finally be free. Then a demon shows up to say, You’re one of us.

So naturally, Petra ghosts. Not because she doesn’t love Jesse. But if she’s tied to something ancient, monstrous, and cosmically wrong, she’ll do whatever it takes to keep it from touching him. Even if that means breaking his heart.

Jesse, meanwhile, does what any genius hacker with abandonment issues would ignore common sense and dig through encrypted hell to find her. When a sleek biotech company offers him a job, it looks like the perfect distraction—easy hours, clean code, and no one asking about the girl who left ash and silence in her wake.

But Petra isn’t done being hunted.

As she uncovers her connection to the ancient Watchers—angelic rebels from Heaven—Jesse gets pulled deeper into a web of corporate secrets, divine conspiracies, and an apocalypse that may already be in motion—and Petra’s not just caught in the middle, she is the point.

This isn’t a story about falling for an angel. It’s about surviving one.

A fast-paced supernatural thriller with urban fantasy roots, a gritty romance where ‘I love you’ comes out as ‘don’t die’, and a heroine weaponized by divine design—whether she likes it or not. If you liked Shadowhunters, but wished it had less romance drama and more ancient conspiracies—you’ll love Shadows of the Fallen.

What do an Earth Elemental, Petra, and a computer hacker extraordinaire, Jesse, have in common? Shadow of the Fallen brings Petra and Jesse together in a way which blows the reader’s mind. This book is not a love story. It’s a book of discovering evil and fighting it. As Petra learns more about her abilities to move Earth she questions who she is and how to serve her purpose for good. Jesse is just trying to figure out what’s next which has to include Petra. But it doesn’t work out how either of them want to and that is the fun of this amazing story filled with twists and turns and a dramatic ending. I’m ready for book two and three of this series. Shadows of the Fallen was a wonderful read!

Shadows of the Fallen completely pulled me in from the start. Petra is the kind of heroine I love, powerful, flawed, stubborn, and constantly finding herself in impossible situations. The chemistry between Petra and Jesse is undeniable, and their relationship feels authentic, especially when both are trying to protect each other while being dragged into increasingly dangerous circumstances.

What I enjoyed most was how the story blends urban fantasy, supernatural suspense, biblical mythology, and corporate intrigue into one fast-paced adventure. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another revelation about the Watchers, demons, or Petra's true nature raised the stakes even higher. The action never lets up, but there are also plenty of emotional moments that make you care deeply about the characters.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrators, Eden Gabay and Jenn Frost, were fantastic. They brought the characters to life and made it easy to get completely immersed in the story. Their performances added depth to both the emotional scenes and the intense action sequences.

And that ending! Be prepared for a major cliffhanger. The book leaves you desperate to know what happens next, and I can't wait for the next installment. If you enjoy urban fantasy with ancient conspiracies, supernatural danger, and a romance that develops amid chaos and catastrophe, this one is definitely worth picking up.

Audiobook Review: Shadows of the Fallen: A Trespass of Angels, Book 1
Shadows of the Fallen is an engrossing, high-stakes start to a new urban fantasy series, delivering a thrilling adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The story pairs the returning Earth Elemental, Petra, with the genius hacker, Jesse, as they confront a devastating evil. The plot quickly ignites when Petra is forced to "ghost" Jesse to protect him, starting an unpredictable journey filled with twists and turns. This is a battle for purpose, not a typical love story.
Petra is a compelling character, struggling with her vast powers and purpose, while Jesse provides excellent support, even if he sometimes seems a bit naive for a top-tier hacker. Although the beginning felt slow for a listener new to Petra's history, the narrative quickly became consuming.
The audiobook was significantly enhanced by the dual narration of Eden Gabay and Jenn Frost, making it a very entertaining listen. I am eagerly ready for the next book!
I received a complimentary copy and volunteered this honest review.

Petra is such an interesting and powerful character. We haven't seen her since the Elementals books and it's wonderful to see her again. You do not need to read the Elemental Series to read and enjoy this book, but that series is amazing as well (and gives you a little backstory and more adventures). In this book we find Petra destroying a very evil corporation (long story as to why and how). She and Jesse, who is a hacker extraordinaire, are planning to meet when she destroys the last outpost. Then the sigil appears to her, a demon talks to her, she ghosts him (Jesse) to protect him and so the adventure begins, and what an adventure it is. Fantastic, keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next to both Petra and Jesse.

Audiobook: I was entertained by this story. The beginning dragged a little as I haven't read any of the stories which included Petra; however, the longer I listened to this story the more I became engrossed in it. I liked Petra but she seemed confused and distracted as she dealt with her powers. I liked Jesse when he tried to support Petra; however, for a hacker he seemed kind of naive. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I thought the dual narrations provided by Eden Gabay and Jenn Frost enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Wow! What a great start to a book I've been looking forward to for a long time! Within a couple chapters, I'm hooked and already feeling so much for these characters. I love the banter between Petra and Jesse, get ready to laugh. So much thought and research went into the writing of this book and it definitely shows. The world building is phenomenal. Highly recommend!! A.L. Knorr is one of the few writers whose books I read without reading the blurb to make sure I think I'll like it. If she writes it, I'm reading it and yet again I am not disappointed. And, somehow each book manages to be better than the last. ❤️

t is difficult to come up with more glowing words for a terrific story, well written and set at a pace that draws the reader along on a frantic pace. The author has done a super job of providing multiple locations that her characters interact with and that beg to be visited and explored. Protagonist, Petra, would be anyone's best friend or worst enemy. She has fought in the past with her BFF Jesse to combat greed, malice and the powerful who know how to wield both. Once again she finds herself at a point where one path may cause great pain to the ones she loves but the other will have her working alone and haunted. Jump on this ride and share the twists and turns she and Jesse have to take.

Audiobook review: Excellent dual narrators making the story come alive.

Story review:
I loved this story. Petra has amazing abilities and wants to use them for good only. She knows that evil people will abuse and weaponize these powers and does everything she can to protect herself and others. Her boyfriend Jesse, an ace computer hacker, assists her. The author has created a fascinating world which keeps the reader entertained throughout the adventure. This is the first book of a trilogy and I am looking forward to the next two.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

It’s been a while since I read the Elementals so it took me a minute to get back into their world. About half way through, I didn’t want to put the book down. Well written as always with great world building and interesting characters. This is a multi-book arc and the end leaves you desperate for the next book.

Petra and Jesse are ready to make a life together when Petra realizes her demons (literally) are not going to allow her to have the quiet happiness she has dreamed of. The story is a bit of a sad one as Petra tries to run from her demons and Jesse tries to chase after what they could be together, if Petra will just allow it. We know and love these characters from AL Knorr’s born of air - part of the elemental series. This is a break of series focused just on these two. Since this is book one of three there is so much more to come.
