The Terrinia Chronicles offers a vibrant cast of quirky characters, a touching slow-burn romance, and inclusive LGBTQIA+ representation, all wrapped in thrilling action. It's a captivating tale that will resonate with fans of the genre and keep you turning the pages.
Y’all… I gotta tell ya… the potential of this series starts off on a high note with this first installment of the Terrinia Chronicles. The characters: Iconic. The Setting: Iconic. The story: Iconic. Just everything about this book was so enjoyable. The book had a really nice pacing to it. It did have to start a little slow to ease you into the setting, the characters and the other events going on, but as the story grew and the plot began to thicken, it was off to the races and I was HOOKED. This really paid off for the various climatic moments in each section of the book. Also, this was the first book I’ve read that had taken time and given each character a chance to shine. Allowing the reader to see through the eyes of various characters and see what they were going through as things played out. It made the world feel so much more active and alive. Honestly my favorite thing about this book.
By the end, I was wanting more of Adira and Rhylif and Farrin and all the numerous, beautifully detailed characters but I had no more pages to read.
Graham did such an amazing job on their first novel and I can’t wait to read more about the world of The Terrinia Chronicles. It’s scratches the fantasy itch perfectly and I think will be a staple in the Romantasy genre.
Okay - count me a fan of this series. The characters are everything here, and the world building is fantastic. The main romance plot has me quite seriously grabbing at my seat for more. I can’t believe the way it ended, and I am desperate for book 2.
The prose was easy to read and understand. Descriptions were thorough and painted a clear picture in my mind - without going overboard describing every scratch in the paint like some authors. I like the magic system - it’s interesting and element based! I AM hoping there will be a deeper dive into how the system works in the next book - BUT I feel like I have about as firm a grasp on it as the “main character” does.
I put main character in quotes because honestly - any of these wonderful creatures could end up being the main character by the end of it. I honestly can’t completely tell where this is going - which I absolutely love. Not many plots are able to surprise me anymore.
Lovers of SJM and V. E. Schwab will definitely get a kick out of this wonderful book. Highly recommend!
Once you are sure this is just a romance, Galloway-Chapa rips the rug out from under you and shows you a world filled with magic, deception, and political corruption. Every twist and turn takes you further down the rabbit hole that is Terrinia. But the scariest part of all, is how much this make believe world mirrors our own. Fantastic read.
Mortal Ties. A scorching debut romantasy that will burn you from the inside out!
Mortal Ties follows the story of human Adira and fae Prince Rhylif as they’ve entered into an arranged engagement hoping to unite their people. But when Rhylif’s mother, the Queen, seeks to unfold a sinister plot to destroy all they hold dear. Adira and Rhylif must join forces to protect everyone they care about.
This book has such a fast paced plot, I was turning pages SO quickly 😍 the world building is extremely approachable and I wasn’t left confused at all which is impressive for something I would consider high fantasy. It was laid out so easily and I was able to enjoy the story quickly!
Adira is a such a spitfire and I loved how strong willed she was. It’s very much reluctant chosen one and I love seeing a character who isn’t like I have to save the world? Of course I will! But is actually wanting nothing to do with that. Rhylif was cocky, conceited, and fun but ultimately such a great leading man.
While those two are the main focus, there’s a huge cast of characters at the helm as well. So many different POVs my head was spinning in the best way! Farrin and Vic were my all time favs and I’m dying to see where this goes.
The book set up an epic series and I cannot wait to read the next one!!
I don't normally visit the fantasy section much, but there was something about this book that invites you to read it... Magic, perhaps?
It didn't take me long at all to get into the story. The characters and setting are so vivid that you are quite literally whisked away into these beautiful and dangerous lands. I love the different narratives of each character - you really get a sense of their individual voices whilst reading. Exceptionally clever.
The story is gripping, and when I say 'gripping', I mean I started this book this morning and ended up taking a very naughty day off to read the ENTIRE thing! Now I sit on tenterhooks awaiting the next book. Luckily I have lots of friends into DnD (as well as my daughter!), and fantasy, so I'll be making sure that they read this, too - but so should you!
A fantastic debut novel and I can't wait for more, (saving up my days off as we speak!).
Galloway-Chapa develops an intriguing fantasy world. The book starts off in the action and moves quickly. I love the multiple perspectives and diversity of the characters.
I cannot wait for the second book since it leaves on such a cliffhanger!
5 stars!!! Fast paced novel that grips your attention from the very beginning. The author does a great job of character descriptions and world building. Highly recommend. Ends on a cliff hanger that leaves you wanting more!!!
Fantastically epic!! Mortal Ties is a rich filled fantasy book that contains superb writing, a lush plot, and a delicious slow burn with lots of banter and heat. It's everything I love in a top notch fantasy book.
My heart was filled with absolute joy every time another fantastical creature was unveiled. Mortal Ties contains the fae, goblins, sirens, orcs, shifters, and so many more races of fantastical creatures, I could be here all day just listing the wonder that is this magical world. However, the main focus of the story is between a fae prince, named Rhylif, and a human, named Adira.
In the beginning, Rhylif has little interest in the human he's been arranged to marry. Like most fae he deems himself above humans in basically everything. It's not until the story really gets going that Adira not only turns his eye, but also begins to earn his heart.
As for Adira she too has no desire to marry, especially to a pompous prince. There are moments when she feels drawn to Rhylif, but his outward actions make it extremely difficult for her to drop her defenses. She can't deny he's beautiful, most fae are, but losing herself to him could cost more than just her heart.
The journey of this entire book is fantastic. The imagery of the lands the characters visited were beautifully written without being overly detailed that the plot was lost. All of the secondary characters were perfectly placed and captivating, and they added to the full tapestry of the storyline. This book is full of magic, quirky characters, action, and a suspenseful plot.
Mortal Ties has everything a fantasy book lover is looking for. I can't wait to dive back in and find out what happens to everyone in the next book.
This book quickly became a favorite of mine. So many unexpected twists and turns, with some of my favorite fantasy tropes sprinkled along the way. Seriously such a great book!! highly recommend.
