Wild Bluffs #2

Wildly Inappropriate

Rate this book
Lila Walker is my best friend’s little sister. With her fierce attitude and a knack for annoying me, she gets under my skin like no one else. The spark of irritation between us is so intense, it makes me want to flee the room faster than a pro golfer trying to outpace a rain delay.

In short, we can't stand each other.

Or at least, that's what I thought. Until a night in Vegas flipped our world upside down and left us in a tangled mess of desire and confusion.

Now, we’re stuck sharing a house for the summer, reading the same romance books, and navigating a friendship that feels about as stable as a window in a hailstorm. But amidst the constant bickering and electric tension, I find myself distracted by thoughts of her—thoughts I can’t afford when there’s a major golf tournament on the horizon and my parents’ sacrifices weighing on my shoulders.

They say there’s a fine line between love and hate, and I’m starting to wonder if I’m toeing it with my best friend’s sister. But as the stakes rise, I might just have to decide which side I really want to be on—before I lose everything.

This is book 2 in the Wild Bluffs Series. It can be read as a complete standalone.

My writing is a testament to my love for romcoms, sprinkled generously with the very tropes that make my heart race: sports, small towns, and sarcastic heroines.

There is nothing I enjoy more than weaving narratives about strong, intelligent women and the irresistible men they love. If you enjoy books that are real, smart, and endlessly entertaining, you're in the right place!

When I'm not building worlds or creating characters that stay with you long after the last page, you'll find me spending time with my family, watching sports, or enjoying my small, Colorado town.

~ 3.25 stars: ARC review

tropes:
- brother's best friend
- sports romance: pro-golf player mmc
- forced proximity
- "enemies" to lovers

This was a straightforward and cute romance book. I would say it closely resembled the vibe that Done & Dusted by Lyla Sage gave me: very straight to the point, and not much additional filler and plot included. I did enjoy the idea of the mini plot-line with the MMC's parents. I always like when the romance aspect doesn't take over the entire book. It's important to have a but of realism within romances and have side conflicts that build personality and dimension to the characters. I did also enjoy the banter between the two main characters and I am ALWAYSS one to love a forbidden romance trope, i.e. brother's best-friend.

However I will say that I wish there was actually more romance. I say that in the aspect that a lot of the conversation surrounding the relationship between the main characters were either internal dialogue or spoken with other characters. I felt as if the main characters didn't exactly speak much about their relationship to one another. I would've enjoyed to see a stronger development of their friendship and how that morphed into their growing attraction and love for one another. I always say this, but so often romance authors brush over the dramatic effect angst, tension and yearning can have in a book. Prolonged tension honestly makes the book SOO GOOD and the relationship between these characters would've felt more natural if it was included. In addition to this, I felt there was a lot of "telling" and not "showing". As in yes, I understand that they like each other, but actions have no shown that. Sometimes with these simple romance books it can feel as if there are cut corners and we miss out on the full development of the relationship. I think this point corelates with the angst, where I wish I just read MORE of their attraction to one another in a fleshed out manner.

This book was still very very cute, and genuinely felt very thought out and planned by the author which I can always appreciate. I would definitely recommend it as an introduction to the romance genre, since it has the right amount of everything that is required in a romance book without doing too much ! <3

JT and Lila have known each other since JT met Lila's brother, Jameson, in college. JT and Jameson are both pro golfers so they have kept their friendship over the years. Lila is a few years younger than JT and had a crush on him since she was 14. When she turned 18, he crushed her heart. Since then, they've been bickering to the point of needing separate tables during Thanksgiving at Jameson and Lila's parents' house.

While in Vegas (JT to compete in a tournament, Lila to support her brother in the same tournament), they have a heated encounter that is super hot. They still hate each other but set that aside for one night.

A year later, through forced proximity, JT and Lila spend time together in Wild Bluffs. JT is there to clear his head and Lila is there to start a new job. Both are still thinking about that night in Vegas but also hold on to the animosity they've had for all these years. Things start to get spicy then they start reading the same book and making annotations throughout for the other reader.

The banter in this book was on point. I love when there's banter, but not too much. I've found that some authors go a little overboard and it becomes juvenile. I didn't find that to be the case in this book. It was just the right amount and kept me chuckling throughout. About 20-30% into the book, I was loathing JT's parents. I kept that feeling through the end! I feel so bad for him and the mental anguish they caused him.

Thank you Emma Kate for allowing me an ARC of this book. I loved every second of it and highly recommend it to everyone. Your an amazing author and I'm hoping Izzy and Jaxson's book is in the works! Way to leave an Easter Egg for your readers.

Thank you Emma Kate for the opportunity to read this ARC! I read Forever Wild and when I saw the ARC opportunity for Wildly Inappropriate I wanted to sign ASAP!
I loved the continuation of the first story, Bryn’s sisters, and the small town Wild Bluffs community.
Lila is fierce while also vulnerable and her banter/tension/history with JT is *chef’s kiss*.
The cute references to current pop culture throughout were super fun. My favorite part was Lila and JT’s shared love of romance novels and how they communicated through them. Even though both of them needed to learn to communicate other ways… this was a fun start.
The only thing I hated was JT’s parents but that probably means that 1) they were written well and 2) I may have some things to unpack 🤷🏻‍♀️😭
If you love a sports romance, forced proximity, brother’s best friend romance snatch this book up!

I’ve had the opportunity to read this review as part of the authors ARC sign up and I was not disappointed! This was my introduction to the Wild Bluffs world and this was such an easy read that it can 100% be read as a standalone book!

A classic enemies to lovers story that is heavier on the romance side of it, rather than the sports! The tension between the FMC and MMC even at the start of the book gives some great banter that you can’t help but root for them at the end.

If you’re looking for something fun, investing and some spice then this book is for you!! 🫶

this one had me just like forever wild. so many giggles. and maaannnnn jt had issues with the name matthew
i love loved lila. she was fierce and independent and was trying so hard to complete the picture she had for her life. moving to wild bluffs to work for kelsey, i could feel her insecurities about possibly getting the job just because she was jameson's sister. (didn't help that jt liked to throw that in her face sometimes too) she was strong willed and wanted to prove her worth. i felt for her after the encounters with jt. she just shut down and i wanted to hug her hard.
jt!! this man. he was put thru it with his parents. they're shit. just saying. the way they manipulated him. happy to see he had sam in his corner. but the banter he had going on with lila. the way he took her romance recommendations and even got an ereader?! yes please! his protectiveness definitely came out in lots of instances with lila and i loved him. he fought so hard against the way he felt for her and inevitably fell.
these two togther tho?! their little notes in the books! loved it. the sassiness and 'hated' between them both had me giggling and i loved them fiercely. i also love that they both fell for jameson and bryn's trick to get them in the same house.
lila walker has always been the woman who didn't try to light up the darkest parts of me. instead she happily snuggled into them
thank you Emma Kate for letting me read this early and for trusting me with these two! they were perfect and i loved waltzing back into wild bluffs!

Ahhh! This book is exactly what I needed. It is a banter filled romcom about Lila falling for her brother's best friend....if he let's her.

Lila is a spunky girl that loves her brother dearly and wants a fresh start in the small town on Wild Bluff. JT is a professional golf player that is out of touch with love and prioritizes golf to hide behind all the battles he doesn't want to face.

JT's character growth is so raw in the fact that his situation with his family is soo relatable to many people today. Also, knowing you deserve happiness ans that you arent responsible for others' decisions in life. Lila's growth is pure of hope and faith that everything will work out as it should. She doesn't give up when things get hard but also learns the importance of asking for help when it's needed.

The storyline is beautiful and will have you giggling over the childish behaviors from the two. But, it was also makes you feel cringy and your heart will ache when one doesn't realize that they deserve happiness regardless of the heavy guilt of the past.

I highly recommend this story to anyone who loves romcoms, a little bit of heartache, and to anyone that loves to feel warm at fuzzy at the end of a story.

Thank you @authoremmakate for allowing me the opportunity to join the ARC team for this wonderful book!

This book is everything I didn’t know I needed... a delightful cocktail of sizzling chemistry, sharp banter, and heartfelt moments that made me swoon and laugh in equal measure. Emma Kate masterfully balances the chaos of enemies-to-lovers with the tenderness of forbidden romance, and the result is utterly addictive.

Lila and JT's relationship is electric from the very first page. Their back-and-forth bickering is laced with a tension that practically leaps off the page, making their slow-burn transformation all the more satisfying. The forced-proximity trope, thanks to their shared summer house, takes the story to new heights, as every interaction feels like a delightful tug-of-war between resisting temptation and giving in to what feels inevitable. And when they finally do? It’s everything.

Beyond the romance, the small-town charm of Wild Bluffs adds warmth and community to the story, making it feel like a place you’d want to revisit again and again.

If you’re a fan of brother’s-best-friend romance with just the right amount of spice, heart, and humor, Wildly Inappropriate is a must-read. I closed the book with a happy sigh and a smile that lasted for days. Emma Kate has officially earned her spot on my auto-buy list!

Wildly Inappropriate is book 2 of the Wild Bluffs series. I recommend reading book 1 first, though this one can be considered an interconnected standalone.

Lila and JT have royally disliked each other for years. But the problem is JT is Lila's brother's best friend AND they men play professional golf together. It's very hard to stay out of each other's orbits. However, after a tournament in Vegas, Lila and JT end up at the same hotel bar and well.... what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Months later, Lila is asked by her brother to house/dog sit for a few weeks....... and he doesn't tell her that JT is crashing too (hoping that Wild Bluffs Golf Course magic helps is golf game). A lot can happen when you're forced to be roommates for 6 weeks with your enemy.

I liked Lila. She's smart, and knows what she wants. I think she and JT both need to work on communication skills though. She's decided she's ready for a long term relationship and the fact that the Harper sisters are there to help her find dates in Wild Bluff is great. I loved seeing them again! I think they're a lot of fun. You know who else I loved? Matt. I want more of his story! I hope we get a book about Matt and his mystery love.

JT. I liked him more than Lila. I really did. He's a golden retriever who is taking on his parents burdens. Well, no his parents are a**holes who load him down with fake guilt and rob him blind. But JT feels the need to always support them. He needs some therapy after the way they've treated him for 20 years. Jerks.

In the end, overall, I enjoyed the story. The banter was fun and I look forward to book 3.

This book is for you if you like:
🍇 Forced proximity
🍇 Brother’s best friend
🍇 Third act breakup
🍇 Enemies to lovers
🍇 Personal growth

“Prove me wrong,” I taunt. “Prove you’re the best I’ve had”.

Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, say no more!! I am an absolute sucker for anything with these tropes and Emma delivered!

This was such an easy read and good introduction into Wild Bluffs. I love a book that can be read as a standalone but also connected to the series because it can be read by anyone at any time!

Emma, you have done JT and Lila justice in this book. I love the way JT and Lila’s journeys have been shared with us, the very real struggles and expectations that can often be projected onto you whilst navigating a new relationship.

This book was packed with heartache and romcom behaviour. I found at times some of the banter cringy and the plot predictable, but this book brings you a good balance of spice, romance, sport, personal growth and struggles.

Thank you Emma for the opportunity to read this ARC and be part of the Wild Bluffs journey. I will definitely be reading book 1!

I’d recommend this book to anyone after a fluffy and balanced romance book.

💬 I really enjoyed this book! It's the second book in the Wild Bluffs series, this time focusing on JT and Lila.

So right off the bat I can say I just want to give JT a big hug 🥺 He was just so dang sweet and cute. I mean it's pretty obvious what's going on with him, but that didn't make it any less impactful in the story and my heart just hurt so much for him and everything he was dealing with.... but also maybe I want to give him the hug while we're in bed 😏

Along with that, just thank God for Matt but mainly for Sam. I could not stop mentally clapping for him. It's vague I know, but if I say what it's for it'll give things away so just read the book because it's good book and you should read it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't actually have much to say about Lila other than I liked her character. It wasn't so much that she was generic but there wasn't a whole lot about her that stood out to me. Most of the drama in this book centered around JT, so his growth arc was fantastic but Lila didn't really do much other then be the FMC.

For the most part I really liked the story itself although there were times I started skimming because the story felt like it was dragging. I think there was some stuff that could have been cut out and it would have had the same impact.

The banter between the MCs was also SO good, it's not often that I really FEEL the enemies to lovers vibe, but I thought this book did a good job. I wish there'd been a little more to the romance aspect. I get why there isn't but still.

Along with that, I don't often like the whole book within a book trope, where the MCs are readers and they talk about being romance readers and it's just a little too current for me taste, but the writing in the margins/book exchange was so freaking adorable.

This is Book 2 in the Wild Bluffs series plus this is the first time reading one of Emma's books, and also a golf romance.

The story follows Lila and JT on their rocky road to love and this book is absolutely fabulous!

Lila is an amazing character and absolutely loved her. JT took a little time to warm to but given his complex past, it was a given that his character development would be slower but emotionally heavier. In the end, he also became a character I loved.

Emma has an amazing way of writing, and you really do get sucked into the story. Her character development is gradual and absolutely believable, which is brilliant.

I haven't read a golf romance before as I'm not really a golf lover but there was just enough golf in there to make these professionals believable without overpowering the story and it is the romance element of this story which takes centre stage.

I loved Wildly Inappropriate so much that I bought Forever Wild (Book 1) too and cannot wait to see more of Emma's work in future!

Absolutely recommend to all romance and sports romance lovers!

First of all, I would like to stay that i received this book as an ARC, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity!

With that being said, I had such a good time reading this book, from beginning to end. I may have also almost shed a couple tears toward the end. Wildly Inappropriate follows the FMC - Lila and the MMC - JT. JT is a pro golf athlete, and Lila is the little sister to JT’s best friend. While Lila’s brother is out of town, she agrees to stay at his house to take care of his dog while waiting for her new home to be renovated. However, she’s completely surprised when none other than JT walks in claiming he’s staying at her brother’s place while he recovers from an “injury”. How is this going to work out?! They can’t stand each other because of something that happened in the past. They bicker ALL the time. But could that bickering really be because of something more? Who knows? Maybe you should read and find out! :)

A brother's best friend enemies to lovers romance that was well written and had me hooked.

JT and Lila had a tension filled relationship that resulted in a lot of hilarious banter and sparks that fly between them.

This book was well written, and I enjoyed the plot. The characters were brilliantly written, and I loved how their relationship developed and how they grew throughout the book. JT was a character who carried a lot of emotional baggage, and it had a significant influence on his feelings about relationships. Lila was a character that I loved, and she was determined to show JT that he was worthy of love.

Thank you to Emma for the ARC.

First off I want thank Emma Kate for letting me be a part of her Arc team for this book.

I give this book a 4.5⭐️ This book is exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump. It’s a forced proximity, sports romance and brother’s best friend kinda romance novel. I love the friendly and funny banter between the two MC. It’s the kinda novel where you know these two are meant to be together and deserve to be happy. So if you’re looking for a light cozy romance novel then this is the book for you. I really enjoyed it.

The most important thing I can say about this book is that JT's parents are dicks. But, I absolutely enjoyed reading this. The miscommunication between JT and Lila drove me nuts and I do wish there had been a clearer understanding in the beginning (maybe I just missed it) on why they couldn't stand each other.

Overall though, getting to know their characters, and how they both wanted to succeed in their own lives, as well as with each other was great. I will definitely be reading Forever Wild now.

Thank you to Emma for the ARC!

I love a good second (third or fourth) chance romance. You could feel the connection between them so strongly. Being thrown into forced proximity truly made them rethink their past decisions.
You follow Lila, newly graduated from college, and JT, a professional golfer. Boy oh boy, do these two get on each other's nerves! I loved the depth of these characters. I truly wanted to smack JT various times throughout the book but I still love him lol. They were a perfect balance and their found families were always there for them

Let me tell you the way I quickly devoured this one was surprising. I absolutely LOVED the banter between Lila and JT. I enjoyed everything about this. Even the parts where I physically groaned out of frustration at certain side characters. I legitimately wanted to climb into the book and either slap them or chase them away. Even thinking about it now is getting me cranky and because of that I loved it. Go figure. This is an easy read that makes me want to reach for more sport related romances. Though it was not the sole focus of the story but it just added that little extra flavour. Again. The banter is everything. The rhythm of conversations that happens, not just between the main characters but others as well, was perfectly executed. I want more!

Lila and JT's friends to enemies to lovers relationship was very engaging. I love how protective he felt towards her even though he swore he didn't like her. And I love how they love to pick at each other without going too far. When they finally give in to that crazy hot chemistry they have it's magic! Another job well done for Emma Kate! All the characters are well-rounded, and you can feel the depth of each character as you read. I feel a bit called out by JTs character. I am working to set boundaries and not feel guilty about them after the fact. The Harper sisters and Sam really need a round of applause in this one here as they were the glue that really held us all together on this journey! I loved every aspect of this book! I especially enjoyed their chats about books, is it "peni or penises"? lol IYKYK

Wildly Inappropriate is an electric small-town golf romance that masterfully combines humor, tension, and heart. JT and Lila’s story is a whirlwind of emotions—sharp banter, palpable chemistry, and moments that make you laugh out loud followed by scenes that tug at your heartstrings.

I didn’t realize how much I would love a golf romance until I picked this up. Who knew the world of tournaments and golden-retriever professional athletes could be so entertaining? JT and Lila’s enemies-to-lovers dynamic had me hooked from the very beginning. Their fiery exchanges, combined with the slow burn of their undeniable chemistry, were both frustrating and utterly satisfying. Add in forced proximity, a shared love of romance books, and high stakes on and off the golf course, and you’ve got a story that’s impossible to put down.

Lila’s sharp wit and determination make her a standout heroine, and JT’s golden-retriever energy paired with his struggle to balance personal demons with professional goals gave his character real depth. Their dual POVs allowed for deeper insight into their vulnerabilities, making their connection feel raw and authentic.

JT and Lila could pretend to hate each other all day long but the spicy tension between them sure sizzled.

I enjoyed the witty banter between them and was excited to see them finally put all that “hatred” behind them. I despised JT’s family so I really needed him to get his HEA.

This was my first book by this author and it won’t be my last.

I was lucky to be an ARC for this book and I love this story!!! JT had so much drama from his parents he never felt good enough for love or happiness. Which is crazy it’s definitely like that in real life. We meet friends that turn into family and get lucky if they have a sister/brother or cousin lol that you fall in love with. Lila didn’t give up on love and she fought and got her man and had a great group of friends who believed in their love too.. great story must read..

This has to be one of my favourite reads of 2024 and I’m so excited that it’s not long until the release date on 7.1.25!!!

I don’t give out many 5 star ratings but this totally earned it for me and it’s not just because I had an ARC!

I could not put this down to the point at 2am one morning I was messaging Emma Kate telling her how amazing the book was and I had kept saying just one more chapter but had to admit defeat at 2am and finish it the next day 😂

I did read the first Wild Bluffs instalment prior to this and although these can be read as stand alones I highly recommend reading Forever Wild first

I loved Lila and JT and their relationship progression, the banter, the dislike, the realisation of feelings. The spice was 😜😍🥵

I wanted to shake JT at times regarding his parental issues but I thought his character development surrounding this was great.

I loved the romance books and annotations element and how this tied in at the end 🥰

I found the supporting characters really good, it helped reading Forever Wild first as we meet some of them in there.

I want to live in Wild Bluffs, date a golfer and be friends with the Harper/Walker gang 😍 oh and I also want a Sam in my life 😂

Wildly Inappropriate by Emma Kate is an unputdownable enemies-to-lovers romance that delivers on every level. Lila and JT’s fiery dynamic brims with tension, humor, and heart, keeping me invested from the very start. The flirty banter was top-tier, and the emotional moments hit hard in all the best ways.
The small-town setting added warmth and charm, especially with the standout supporting characters who brought laughter, love, and a sense of family. These friendships were not just delightful but instrumental in the main characters’ growth.
The story dives into emotional themes with care and depth, and while certain moments left me frustrated, they felt intentional and necessary to the journey. Emma Kate skillfully balances humor, spice, and emotion, creating a heartfelt romance that’s both fun and deeply resonant.
With sizzling chemistry, unforgettable characters, and a story that tugs at your heartstrings, Wildly Inappropriate is a must-read for fans of steamy small-town romances. Highly recommend!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was really happy that this was the story of JT and Lila, I didn't read any blurbs or reviews so it was a complete surprise. I enjoyed this version of the Enemies to Lovers trope, and I continue to enjoy Emma's writing style.

Wildly Inappropriate is the second book in the Wild Bluff series – it can be read as a complete standalone; however, I would recommend starting with the first book, Forever Wild, so you get more insight into some of the side characters. I’ve been so excited for the series to continue after finishing Jameson and Bryn’s story, and Emma Kate doesn’t disappoint with book two!

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑽𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒔 … 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑽𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒔 [𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒅]

The universal experience of a little sister: you will at one point in time develop a crush on your older brother’s best friend, and Lila Walker is no different. Lila has been in love with JT for just about a decade and JT has spent many of his better years trying to stay away from the one girl who’s off limits. But one night spent together in Vegas turns their already *walking on eggshells* relationship into something more complex.

Fast forward to post college graduation, Lila finds herself moving to Wild Bluffs to start her first adult job. Needing an escape from California to focus on himself and his professional golf career, JT also finds himself spending time in Wild Bluffs. The only hiccup in both of their plans is that they weren’t disclosed the fact that the other would also be staying under the same roof … making them forced roommates. Stuck sharing a house and trying to make the best of the situation, Lila and JT try to navigate their new friendship with spending time together. Most of which includes constant bickering back and forth (but with electric tension!) which eventually leads to a roommates with benefits deal that expires at the end of summer. As summer comes to an end and feelings aren’t hypothetical anymore, JT must decide if the stakes are worth it.

I knew from what snippets we got of Lila and JT from Forever Wild, that we were in for a fun ride for book two and their banter with each other kept their relationship fun through the love and hate. Lila is fierce, sharp and determined, a true a force to be reckoned with. JT brings all the golden retriever energy, while he silently struggles with emotional baggage while trying to achieve his professional goals. JT struggles to be who Lila needs, but her hope is always big enough for the both of them until JT realizes what Lila has known all along.

Considering this is called the Wild Bluff series, I loved that Emma took the time to develop more of the backstory of Wild Bluff and the residents that live there – especially the Harper family (sisters and parents). There is more to this town and we’re just getting to the beginning of it. Just like Jameson and JT, I feel like if I ever needed a place to find some inspiration, it would be a small town just like this – a town that accepts with open arms with a side of gossip included!

Standouts:
~ Lila/JT and their book annotations, melted my heart!!
~ Loving the side characters as much as the main characters

This is the second book out of the romance series, Wild Bluffs. It is a golf romance series and has characters interconnected in the books series. I have this tendency (and it’s true in this situation as well) to like the second book in a series the most.
Summary:
Lila Walker is JT’s best friend‘s little sister. With her fierce attitude and neck for annoying him, she gets under his skin like no one else. The level of discord is so intense that at holidays they have to sit at separate tables. Then a night in Vegas flips their world upside down, and leaves in a tangled mess of desire and confusion. Now they are tricked into sharing a house for the summer, reading the same romance books, and navigating a friendship that feels about as stable as a window and a hail storm. Throw in a protective older brother, a manipulative unhealthy parent/child relationship, and a pro golfer, and you have yourself the second Wild Bluffs book.

Review:
Again, I really loved this book and I am surprised. I read about the characters Lila and JT in the first book and I didn’t really feel like I connected with them… But that immediately dissipated after the first few pages of this book. What I like about this series is the author has close girl relationships, girls that support each other and females in strong, powerful jobs that make good money. I think there should be more of this in books especially romance books. Also I’m just tickled that the FMC is such a big romance reader there were several romance book inside jokes, such as no one writes about a blonde male character, abbreviations in romance books(and many more!) I wish that there was more of a background on both characters, especially their first night in Vegas, but the book kind of moves at a faster pace once it gets going and especially at the end there’s many jumps of weeks at a time. I just wish there could be more of a backstory. The second thing I loved without giving too much away is there’s a side story about a characters relationship with their parents, and that is not a healthy relationship. The relationship is abusive in a financial way. The story and empowers therapy and working through problems and leaning on others for support which I think is really important.

I highly recommend this book and I’m happy to say it was worth the advance read. I’m gonna leave below a few of my favorite quotes from the book.

“ Romance readers are taking over the book market. Almost half of romance readers finish a novel within a week. We are the big hitters of publishing these days.”

“ I don’t know how to hate you! Don’t you understand? I loved you when I was 14 and you were the only one of Jameo’s friends who would spend time with me. I loved you at 18 when you kissed me for the first time. I loved you at 21 when I realized you would never feel the same way about me, and I love you now, even as you’re ripping my heart out”

“ I want him to realize our relationship doesn’t make him lose focus – it brings what’s important into focus.”

Thanks to the author for the ARC in return for an honest review.

I went straight in with this one without reading book 2. I didn’t feel like I’d missed too much. It seemed obvious I missed the Jameo/Bryn storyline and I think reading book 1 would have given more depth to the Harper sisters as the way it’s written leads me to think they had a bigger role in the first book. But all in all the story was easy to pick up.

Book 2 follows the magnetic pull between Lila and JT. I really like the character building of JT and his difficult family dynamic. Not a huge amount was mentioned for Lila but again perhaps this is all background from book 1 I’ve missed.

The chemistry was great, from an enemies to roommates to lovers. Throw in the brothers best friend and I’m 100% in!

I’m a huge lover of a sports romance and wasn’t sure how golf was going to hit, but it turns out, it hits just as good!

“The Lila and JT who write those notes back and forth aren’t us. They can’t ever be us. They are the little pieces of our personalities who were friends once upon a time, and I’m not ready to send them back into hiding by addressing the personal comments we continue to leave for each other.”

“It’s going to be like sticking my hand in a flame when JT leaves. But it’s already too late for me. I’m already burning.”

“no. Ride my face, Pipsqueak.”

“No, I know these six weeks living with Lila will have changed who I am at a visceral level, and I may never get her out of my system, even if I never touch her again.”

“One of my friends in high school had a pair of socks that said, “Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them” and that is the energy I should be bringing to this breakup.”

“The taste of him sends shivers down my spine. It’s like I’m coming home while also experiencing the greatest adventure at the same time.”
