Laramie

Lucky Laramie Larson. I hate that nickname. I’m not lucky; I’m talented. And I’m not about to let a little thing like a torn rotator cuff keep me from my dream. It’s delayed, not gone. Or that’s what I tell myself as I work to get back into racing shape. I don’t have time for distractions, certainly not one like pretty city boy War Phillips.

One night of fun. No strings. That’s all it can be. So why do I regret sneaking out the next morning? And why does my heart jump when I run into War months later in the last place I expect?

War

My picture-perfect life is unraveling around me. The last thing I expect or need is Laramie Larson. I’m looking to build a family and a future; she’s set on chasing wild horses across the country. Still, I can’t resist her. Waking up alone the morning after the best night of my life is a new low, but it’s for the best. With Laramie gone, I can focus on making amends.

Running into her months later? Not on my bingo card. She’s just as irresistible now as she was then, but her reckless ways burned me once. So why is my heart screaming that even though she might be trouble, she’s also mine?

Welcome to the Sexy as Sin series, where badass female athletes don't mind working up a good sweat on or off the field.

Who would have thought a city boy and a cowgirl would have such an instant attraction? Definitely not War & Laramie, but they fit each other like a perfect glove.

“Laramie is a breath of the freshest air I’ve ever inhaled.”

“connections come when you least expect them, but if you find one, you don’t let it go. You chase it and hope you can keep it.”

The way they’re all over each other, even when they’re not was really wholesome and cute. They’re both obsessed, but in very different ways. The sass is spot on, the support and love was amazing.

“May you never go to battle without your wild horse.”

“All I can see, smell, sense is her—my favorite kind of trouble.”

I really enjoyed this quick, fun and steamy read! I’m so very grateful for the arc, Albany Archer 🫶🏼

“You stayed.”

I received this book as an ARC and I’m so glad I signed up!

Laramie and War are complicated and stubborn characters that bring out the best in one another. The feels when they go their separate ways and then the feels when you aren’t sure if they’re going separate ways again!! The best..

X is by far the best character and I wish we got more time with the sassy Boss!

Highly recommend for anyone that’s a fan of second chance with a sassy cowgirl!

Wild Horses by Albany Archer

Wild Horses is a short story that is part of the Davis Designs Series. This romance story features Laramie and War. We have seen War in KTBU, and to be honest he wasn’t my favorite character. HOWEVER, he has become one of my favorite characters. He really goes through it in this story questioning himself and his values. Laramie is a sassy, independent, fierce queen! She is competes in professional barrel racing and has a very bossy and opinionated side-kick named Xpresso. War and Laramie really compliment each other, and you can feel the chemistry they have while reading! They also have the cutest nicknames for each other: pretty boy, trouble/sweetheart.

Overall, a great short story romance with lots of spicy scenes along with a hefty dose of redemption on both sides. You get to see characters from KTBU and get to see War in a new light.

Quotes:

“She wasn’t lying; this is the cheapest, nastiest, tequila I’ve ever had, and nothing has ever tasted better.”

“Be a good boy and distract me.”

Tropes:
Cowgirl X city boy
Redemption
One night stand turned more
Opposite attract
Good boy/Good Girl

Highly recommend 5 stars!

Thank you for the opportunity to ARC read this book.

This was my first book by Albany, and I absolutely adored it. There was romance, instant attraction, instant want, cowgirl, city boy, nicknames and a whole lotta spice.

I loved the dynamic of this story, and the way the characters flowed and interacted with another. I found it very captivating and devoured it quickly.

I loved the background about War, and his family - god I wanted to bi*ch slap his parents so much (IYKYK). I admire how he dealt with his family and found a way to be happy.

Laramie is a force of nature, headstrong, confident and gets what she wants with hard work and determination. I also loved how she let her guard down with War and let him see past the hard surface she puts on for the world.

I will definitely be reading Albany’s other work!

This is my second book by Albany Archer, and it did not disappoint.
She's just good at writing complex stories with beautiful characters and a nice touch of spice.
Since this one is a short story, it is fast paced, but not lacking in details.
Laramie is full of sass and War is vulnerable and sweet.
Warren Sr is such a character you love to hate in just a couple of pages.
It made me want to read Tuesday and Bond story as well!

I really want to thank Albany Archer for this ARC. I had such a nice time reading it!

I am such a sucker for a romance where the connection and pull between the lovers is instantaneous. This book DELIVERED. Laramie leaving War, after a one night stand, left both of them broken hearted. But that connection they had, and the memories wouldn’t let either of them move on. Until a bit of fate brought them back together. Their story is so sweet and so hot. Their personal struggles adding so much depth. I love Albany archer and I cannot wait to read more of her books

An fun, fast-paced romance with sizzling chemistry and deep character growth

Laramie is relentless in her pursuit of barrel racing, refusing to let setbacks derail her dreams. War is determined to break free from his toxic family’s grip while mending his relationship with his twin sister. When they meet, their connection is instant and life-changing but fear sends Laramie running. Fate intervenes, bringing them back together, and this time, War won’t let her slip away so easily. Love, second chances, (spicy 🌶️) passion, and finding where you truly belong - what more could you ask for?

Laramie is a barrel racer that’s been recently injured. While she’s in PT, she meets War. War is trying to fix all of his family troubles, but when he meets Laramie all of his issues fade.

They have a great date and an even better night, but Laramie is scared she’s not enough for the big city guy. However, they’re both miserable without each other.

War cuts ties with the family business to help his sister but still thinks of Laramie. When their paths finally cross, he’s not letting her go this time!

Who would have thought that you could be heartbroken after a one night stand?! But that's exactly what happens when Laramie leaves War behind in a hotel room. But luckily, there's a second chance on the horizon....

Ohmygod, I'm so happy War got his own book!! These two are so perfect for each other and I loved their story! If you like to read heartfelt stories with flawed characters, who strive to become better for themselves and for the people they care for, seriously hot spice and second chances at finding your happiness, then you should go and dive headfirst into the Trail Creek-Series, because you absolutely won't be disappointed!!

I loved War and Laramie’a story! Laramie, our FMC, is a baddie barrel racer who injures herself while not backing down from a dare posed by a disgusting excuse for a bull rider. Physical Therapy ensues and she meets War, who is also rehabbing an injury. It’s insta-lust from the moment they meet. Their story becomes so much more and I LOVED how they progressed. Laramie KNOWS what she wants in the bedroom and isn’t afraid to ask for it! 💪🏻
Although this is a novella, it surely doesn’t read like one! Albany Archer does a great job of making this feel like a full-blown novel! Loved every minute of this one!!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this story, and absolutely loved it! It was a perfect mix of romance, spice (the spice!) and comedy. This is my first time reading anything by this author, but it won't be my last. I'm invested in the characters now, and want to know more about Davis Designs and their entire found family.

Albany's books are sexy, fiery, poigant and spicy and I could not miss out on an oportunity to read this one.
It is a novella, but it doesn't feel like it is missing anything due to the short length, the characters are well developed, the plot flows perfectly and the chemistry between War and Laramie is phenomenal.
I loved the relationship between Laramie and her dad, and seeing War try to rebuild the bridges with his own family.
The level of detail with which the rodeos and the barrel races were described was incredible, I almost felt like I was there!
Laramie is the kind of FMC I love to read, strong, confident, yet still not immune to falling in love.
And War was the surprisingly vulnerable MMC I didn't know I needed to read. His openness and honesty with Laramie was so refreshing to read.
I have been a huge fan of Albany and the Davis Designs series since the first book and I loved this one. I can't wait for more!

Wild Horses: Where a One-Night Stand Turns into a Full-Throttle Love Affair

Albany Archer's Wild Horses isn't just a delightful novella; it's a captivating, intensely passionate ride into the heart of unexpected love. Even if you've never seen a rodeo, you'll be utterly hooked by the electric connection between Laramie, the fiercely independent barrel racer, and War, the city-raised entrepreneur finally breaking free.

This fun and insightful story throws you into the thrilling world of barrel racing, where an injury sidelines the spirited Laramie and unexpectedly throws her into War's path during physical therapy. War, shedding the control of his wealthy parents, finds his life irrevocably changed by their impulsive one-night stand. He's forced to step outside his comfort zone to keep pace with the wild and unapologetic Laramie, who, in turn, shows him the vibrant joys beyond his privileged upbringing.

Archer's signature blend of high heat, deeply felt instalove, and enthusiastic consent is irresistible. From their very first encounter, Laramie and War's chemistry is explosive, their banter sharp, and their longing palpable. Despite a heartbreaking departure after their night together, fate repeatedly intervenes, drawing them back together as they navigate personal challenges. The way War falls for Laramie is beautifully rendered, a testament to the power of unexpected connections.

Within this short but impactful story, Archer masterfully develops their relationship and individual growth, culminating in a truly satisfying happily-ever-after. Beyond the scorching spice and witty exchanges, the novella explores themes of family, self-discovery, and the courage to embrace a love that defies expectations. Witnessing War's journey to confront his toxic family and Laramie's unwavering spirit adds significant emotional depth.

Wild Horses is a testament to the beauty of finding love in the most unexpected places. If you crave a short, intensely passionate read with a badass heroine, a swoon-worthy hero undergoing a powerful transformation, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after, saddle up for Wild Horses. You'll be utterly charmed and left yearning for more of this captivating Trail Creek world.

Wild Horses was such a fun and quick read to help me get out of a reading and mental slump! War and Laramie were so cute together and I loved the intalust between these two even though I sometimes hate this trope Albany did an amazing job with it and I could not get enough of it.

I loved that this book gave a short back story on both War and Laramie and how they ended up in PT and what was going on behind the scenes. The meet cute between these two was adorable and I couldn’t get enough of them and the explosive connection from the first time they laid eyes on each other. Both of these two have a need for control both outside of the bedroom and inside of the bedroom and I loved that they both could let go of control with each other. Both of these grew so much in the few months that this story took place between War redeeming himself and becoming his own person to Laramie learning that she is enough for someone else in a relationship.

The spice was spicing between these two and the mouth on both War and Laramie was next level. If you ever wished the saying was wear the hat while the cowgirl rides you then you will not be disappointed in this book. The first date had me giggling and the Tequila scene was a must in this story and you do not want to miss it because it was so good!

If you love cowgirl x city boy, instalust, opposites attract, one night stand turned into more, and short novella then this book is for you! Wild Horses is part of the series A Davis Designs but book 1 does not need to be read to enjoy this novella!

Thank you Albany Archer for an eARC!

This may be a novella but it absolutely did not feel like one. The story did not feel rushed and the characters are well developed with a capturing storyline. This truly felt like a full length novel

My favorite aspect of the story is Laramie's determination. She has clear goals and when am I foreseen circumstance arises, she adjusts and sets realistic, obtainable goals.

However, one goal she didn't set? Meeting War. Theres an instant chemistry between these two and you can't help but root for them.

Laramie didn't plan on finding love - she doesn't Have time for that. War is in line to inherit the family business. Will our two strong independent, like-to-be-in-control MCs give up enough control to find love? Or will their need for control and independence take over?

Things to consider:

Open door
High spice
Lots of language
+ More

Please read any and all content and trigger warnings before reading to ensure your well-being.

If you are interested in reading but not thrilled about the spice level - there is a "dictionary" in the book that may help in avoiding some of the intense scenes.

While I do not seek out explicit books or ones with lots of language, I enjoy this author's writing style and ability to capture your in the story.

My rating does not reflect the use of language or spice. Solely on the story telling, plot, and overall thoughts on the book.

I received an eARC in exchange for and honest review.

Well this was such a treat! I know nothing about barrel racing - to be honest, I know nothing about horses even - so I'm not the right person to comment on those parts of the story. But the romance! THE ROMANCE HERE! It's good. By this point I feel like I'm getting a handle on Archer's style - high heat, instalove (and it is love, not just lust), and a solid focus on enthusiastic, explicit consent. Love it. Adore it. Eat it up.

War and Laramie are a fantastic couple, and the romantic tension between the two of them was delicious to read about. I enjoyed getting the update on War’s sister's life (as told in Keep This Between Us), and I was delighted to see now the siblings stood up to their horrible parents. There was a bit of closure there I hadn't realised I needed. I think this story probably works as a standalone alone? But I think you'd be better oif reading the first book and then enjoying the fallout here.

This is a small me moment. I know it's not for everyone. But after some play War goes and washes his hands, and honestly I think that's the most romantic thing you could do, looking after your partner like that. I want more of that in my books, please. It was just a small thing in a spicy scene but it made me happy.

I read an advance copy of this book. My thoughts are very much my own.

Absolutely loved the sequel to “Keep This Between Us”. Was so great to see how the stories connected and watching War’s redemption in Wild Horses was 👌🏼
This novella had lots of spice but was also a sweet love story showing the depth of the characters and their personal struggles.

Everyone needs to run to Amazon tomorrow to read this book. It’s so much fun and I’m sure it will be your new favourite cowgirl, small town read.

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸.”
“𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵?”
“𝘠𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦.”
“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦.”

This novella follows Laramie & War. Their attraction is instant, they are completely opposites, and their relationship is chaotic full of spice, longing, banter & hurdles.

Laramie is a force of nature. I love her so much. She’s wild, feisty, confident and unapologetically her. I loved seeing her never try to change who she is for anyone but showing her softer sides to War.

War changes so much throughout the book. He really goes on a journey of finding himself. He’s stubborn, goes after what he wants, a dirty talking king and a total gentleman (outside the bedroom). He’s so much fun to read about.

I also loved reading the background of War and the relationship with his toxic parents. (I hate them btw). And his redemption journey with his sister.

I basically loved everything about this book. The dynamics between all the characters, the banter, the romance. It all created a fun journey that I never wanted to end.

I truly believe Albany can do no wrong when she settles in behind a keyboard and a screen, prepping to write about yet another incredible couple. Are they complicated? Of course but all the best characters are.

Honestly whilst War and Laramie's book is only a short one, it's by far one of my favourites. (I say as if I'm not obsessed with the entire back catalog!) War has finally started to see the light and come to his senses and whilst a timely accident may have started the story, it certainly didn't ened anything that needed to continue on. He walked away from his old life and I think everyone will agree that it was the right choice.

Laramie made a mistake that changed her life and honestly, whilst it sucked, it was also for the better. Without these accidents, they never would have met! Laramie would have gone on to win all the belt buckles and awards she was after and War.... well, I want to believe he would have still left his old life behind and maybe just moved to Trail Creek forever. But these two together are exactly what they both need. I'm obsessed. Obviously. I can't get enough and I'm honestly a little sad there's only a novella. I get it, but moooooooooooore! lol

Wild Horses was such a fun book to read. It really gives a great peek into life as a barrel racer and what can happen while on the rodeo circuit. When an injury lands Laramie in physical therapy, she meets War. War while raised wealthy is going through his own internal struggles and is finally taking his life back after being controlled by his parents. Their one-night-stand turns into something he never expected and War has to step way outside of his comfort zone to keep up with a wild Laramie, but she shows him how much fun things can be outside of the stuffy world he is accustomed to.

Fast forward three months and an emotional rollercoaster and War and Laramie are reunited. The tension between them is explosive and I loved how fate stepped in so many times to bring them together despite both having to fight through their own challenges. The way War fell for Laramie was just beautiful. The relationships that this book developed in a really short number of pages was fantastic and I truly enjoyed this story and the emotional growth that these characters go through, and finding their happily ever after.

Thank you to Albany Archer for the ARC.

I have a good feeling I will be reaching for this spicy and sweet cowgirl x city boy opposites attract romance novella again-and I don’t often reread books! I was captivated with Laramie and War’s story, rooting for them (out loud even!) and swooning with their HEA. After a one night stand, fear of settling down and letting anyone inside the tough exterior around her heart, Laramie, a successful barrel racer battling an injury, is surprised to see War, an entrepreneur, again during her physical therapy sessions. Their instalove/instalove romance is well played out for a novella, one where their emotions are front and center and oh so raw, their support shines and the passion is sexy as sin and off the charts. There’s an old saying that says “The cowgirl spirit is wild and free, strong and brave, and full of endless possibility” and if that doesn’t fit Laramie (and War’s love for her) I don’t know what does. I remain in awe of this short romance, now completely smitten with the cowgirl sub-genre. I read an early copy of this book thanks to the author and am providing my own honest thoughts. 4.5 stars

I really enjoyed this one. It was a quick read but had plenty of spice and just enough angst. I loved the rodeo setting and that Laramie was a barrel racer. I loved how it showed how caring she was for X and how they took care of each other.

I enjoyed that Laramie was outgoing and confident even a little crass at times but what horse girl isn't. Her connection with X was heartwarming and as a horse girl myself I appreciated the quiet times they shared along with the thrill of competition.

War was such an adorable cinnamon roll. I liked that he seemed to have two sides and knew when to use each one. Nurturing when needed but commanding when he had to be. I also appreciated that he didn't try to stifle Laramie or her dreams. Non-horse guys aren't always supportive so it was nice to see him showing up for her.

If you want a quick rodeo read than this will be right up your alley. The writing was engaging and I was easily invested in the characters. The characters were likeable and down to earth and the barrel racing was fun. I would definitely recommend this novella!!

Such a perfect opposites attract, only for one night novella. Cowgirl is a trope I need MORE of and Albany made this read perfect!

Laramie & War end up meeting each other when they both sustain shoulder injuries. It's lust at first sight and Laramie has her sight set on an itch that needs to be scratched. She has one wild night with War, but then she leaves. She has to focus on rehabbing her injury and requalifying for the National rodeo finals for barrel racing.

War has his own demons which leads him to a small town months down the road where he finds himself at a rodeo and finding Laramie all over again. They both regret only one night & this leads them to rekindling their spark.

This novella was the perfect balance of plot and spice. Albany's spice is HOT, like no words, no notes. HOT Laramie is usually in control but, damn does War know how to take control when needed 🔥🔥

This novella is part of the Sexy As Sin Series and it involves War (Tuesday’s brother from Keep This Between Us- Davis Design Book 1) and bronc rider, Laramie. War meets Laramie at a sports therapy session and he is instantly smitten. Laramie, encouraged him to ditch the suits and spend one night with her. Months later, they bump into each other again but is it too late?

I have been wanting to get my eyes on War since book 1. The suits definitely had me hot under my duvet 😉. I loved War and Laramie-she was just hardcore and fantastic, and I loved how she stood up for herself in a man’s ’world.’
I also felt like War needed someone like Laramie to make him see that it’s ok to let go and just go with the moment.

At first, I was like: mmm, War wasn’t what I was expecting. But, after some reflection I actually think he was exactly what I was expecting. The man appears quiet BUT just wait until he makes Laramie confess why she ditched him. I nearly fainted.

I cannot wait for Albany’s next book.

Everything she is writes is just perfection.

A sassy barrel racing cowgirl and a rich city-boy from Dallas are the main characters in this short book.

I enjoyed that there was a bit of a twist in this book, where the male main character was the one who was lost and figuring out his life / learning to stand up to his family. Typically it’s the woman who is portrayed that way. It did make the MMC seem a bit weak at first, but I quickly changed my mind on that!

This is definitely a spicy read! This is the first book I’ve read that has a “dick-tionary”, which lets you know where the spicy chapters are, so you can avoid them if you’d like. Very cool idea! I enjoyed the spice and the spice level was what I’d expect from this type of book.

I would definitely read more from this author and I’m curious about the other books in this series.

Thanks for the author for sending me a review copy to read!

Laramie and War’s love story is fast and chaotic! I love it.
War dealing with his parents and finding his voice and footing was inspiring! Tuesday having his back was also!
Laramie is wild! Her relationship with her dad is beautiful and her dad in general was an amazing character!
During their times apart, the changes they make and the yearning for each other, really sparked that chemistry when they were back together.
I love how Laramie saw War and was able to help him loosen his control on every thing in his life.
THE TOY scene! WHEW!
Can’t wait to read more by Albany!
So grateful for the opportunity to read this novella and give my honest opinion. Thanks for the ARC, Albany.

This was a hard book to rate for me. I absolutely LOVED a huge chunk of it but some of it was also a little harder for me to get through. So we landed on four stars. 😂

I love a good rodeo! I loved the characters. I love that she was the cowgirl and he was the “snob”. And I would definitely recommend it if you like the tropes.

I think I would have loved it even more if I had read Keep This Between Us. The MCs from that one are in this book too and I think it would have tied the story together better if I knew the whole backstory. It was great to be back in Trail Creek though where Roughing It (from another series) also takes place ❤️

Wild Horses is novella #10 and part of the Sexy As Sin series. Albany Archer might be a newer author, but she did an amazing job on this novella!! This novella might be short, but had a great story and spice in it too!

Laramie has recently suffered from a torn rotator cuff injury. She knows that her dreams are now on hold and now she has to get back into racing shape. Then she has one night of fun with War and planned to not see him ever again even though it felt wrong to leave the first time. War is not expecting to wake up alone after his night with Laramie, but is also relieved. He takes that as a sign to start fresh and work on himself. Until he runs into Laramie a couple months later and their chemistry is just as strong as before.

This was such a fun novella to read. In such a short story, a lot was unpacked and for being an insta-love story, it flowed smoothly without feeling rushed. War had such an amazing character development, learning how to be a better and truer version of himself. Laramie has become one of my favorite FMCs. She is such a fun and well rounded character. She's funny, strong, emotionally mature, bold, and free spirited; a wild horse. She's not perfect, but she is real and owns it. War and Laramie fully balance each other out and inspire the best versions of themselves. The supportive family that surrounds Laramie and War are the perfect addition to shape their story into the happy ending they deserve.

This book was recommended to me by one of my friends and I'm so glad I read it.

What starts as a one night stand between a city boy and barrel riding bad ass turns into so much more as Laramie sneaks out, leaving War behind as they both struggle to move past that one incredible night together.

Instant attraction and months apart, these two have so much chemestry together.

This book was a great read that will not disappoint.

Plus you get the snarky attitude of X which adds the humor of relationships between an animal and their human. Laramie and X are a force to be reckoned with.
