Betrayal: Wahrheit Book 4

Rate this book
The Truth is a weak thing. It has no power. The only power the Truth holds is the power we grant it. On the brink of a continent spanning war, the paladins of the Kingdom of Wahrheit learn the greatest threat has been lurking within their own walls. A sacred trust, upon which the very foundation of the kingdom was built, turns into the deepest betrayal. Institutions collapse, and the weight of the kingdom rests on the weary backs of the paladins. The hope of the world is lost, but the world of men is not the only world. A courageous few seek help from the realms of the fae, but how can men have faith in those whose every breath is treachery? For centuries, the fall of the kingdom and of the race of men has been foretold. The strongest arms and the most cunning minds are powerless to stop it. The future is known. But the only power the Truth holds is the power we grant it. To save the world from the worst of the fae and the betrayal that struck at the very heart of Wahrheit, the paladins must come together to forge a Truth of their own.

The kingdom teeters on the edge of disintegration. Dragons descend spreading terror. Unease with the fae rattles as a dark evil stains the land.

Absolutely loving this series. It’s dark, gritty, political & rich in lore. Dragon scenes are mind blowing. Excellent!

A deftly woven story. Betrayal is an apt title for this one. I can't wait for the next.

A good installment that really built up more tension. I didn’t like it as much as the last (I found myself zoning out here and there) but it’s still such a good political fantasy!

Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap. I think every reader needs to start doing this to force writers to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series. I'm bloody sick and tired of having to re-read previous books, and wasting 2-6 hours, especially when the previous book was a year or 5 ago. I think writing a recap chapter is win win scenario. Those who need don't like wasting their time, can read the recap and Authors would have fewer dropped customers.

As the title indicates there is a number of massive betrayals in this book. The big problem is most of them doesnt make sense in some way. In one case the plan doesnt seem to go beyond killing the queen - which might succeed but there is zero indication how the conspirator would have benefitted from this, of what comes after because it seemed like the traitor was really badly poised to profit from it. Than there are 3 other betrayals that involved a massive number of people. The idea that not a single man in any of the involved - including massive numbers, whole armies of common soldiers and whole guilds - would en masse, down to the last men not only go along with these betrayals and not report it to anyone is beyond the imagination. Also the idea that such huge number of people - let alone all - would be down to take the side that these betrayals make them take is again beyond comprehension. Than there is the fae. In their case I can somewhat accept that their motivations are different compared to ours - however their actions seem to go against thier supposed interests as well. All in all this was a very frustrating read for me and likely the last book in the series I read.

I picked up my copies from the Kickstarter. Wahrheit is a fantastic series that has shot up to earn a place on my top fav list and Betrayal does not disappoint. A fast paced, action packed series that leaves you wanting more. I've become quite invested in all the characters, and I can't wait for the next book to come out! Keep them coming A.C.!

I’m massively behind in writing actual reviews, but I loved this. I’ll be very sad to see the series end with the final book. Lots of plot twists and build up to the final showdown that’s coming. This series has moved well past the standard dragons and swords fantasies, and includes some very intriguing characters and side plots.

flawed and boring

Something about wahrheit is off. the authors usual work is interesting and engaging. i can’t finish a single chapter without getting bored enough to skip to the next one. i think it’s the characters. they’re awful for the most part.
