A Flatlanders View: the poems of Joseph Miller
In this début collection, Joseph Miller pays tribute to his life. Buzzing with gritty, inner-city Canadiana, crackling with wit, thrumming with deep love and intimacy, these poems acknowledge sorrow and celebrate beauty. Asparagus grows from a pile of manure. Sunlight sneaks through the window of a house where a woman is sick with cancer. A sparrow sings despite everything.
With his home province of Saskatchewan as a rolling backdrop, Miller takes readers on a journey through personal struggles—such as his wife’s illness and his work as executive director of a Christian rescue mission—and through some of society's historical and even recent challenges, such as COVID-19.
Unescapably honest and reassuringly wise, A Flatlanders View offers hope in the strangest, darkest moments of humanity.
