I remember my mom buying Klutz hairstyle books in order to properly do my sister's and my hair for ice skating competitions and ballet recitals. As I helped her out and learned how to do the styles myself, I started finding more complicated things to do with my hair. It is a fun way to pass the time, and now I enjoy doing my niece's hair. (She enjoys doing mine in return, which often leads to giant rat's nests.)

I really liked the idea of a book of hairstyles inspired by Disney Princesses. It's a great hook for young girls. Most of the forty styles assigned to various princesses don't have much to do with the actual princess, but there is a wide variety. I am not sure about the other styles, but the three Tiana styles will work with natural black hair. Also, there are more than forty styles total thanks to an overview of how to do a variety of basic braids at the beginning.

Each step for each hairstyle is accompanied by a small photo, along with a large photo of the finished hairstyle. The large photos aren't always helpful. Sometimes the angle doesn't show the full hairstyle, or the photo is too dark to see. One Aurora style has a plant shadowed in front of the girl, leaving her hair practically invisible. The small photos, however, are helpful. Moreso than many line-art illustrations I've seen in similar books. The instructions could be a little clearer, but they're good enough with the photos.

I don't think any of the hairstyles are too hard for a beginner, especially not the curling techniques. Once you get the braids in the front down, these should be simple. Some do require special equipment, like bun fillers. Also, most of these styles are best done with hair that is longer than shoulder length.

This is a beautifully photographed hairstyle book with a lot of appeal for young girls. If you're looking for ideas for your daughter or niece's hair, or just want to learn to braid, this is a good choice.

It makes my life better knowing this book exists. There were some cool hairstyles in this and cool twists on classic things. There were some doable styles that I haven't seen before, which is saying something in this age of Pinterest.

This is terrible. The lighting on most of the main style photos is awful and you can't even see the details of the hairstyle. The instruction photos are better but most of them still don't show the finished hairstyle and on a lot of them you never get a direct view of the style whether it's centered on the the back or side.

Plus a lot of them just don't look that good from what you can see. And some of these really look a bit off, like we're putting wigs on these little kids.

Other reviewers noted that all of these styles and models are for long hair, not mid-length or short.

Great idea, very poor execution.

I do give credit that the back has an index by type of style (the book is organized by princess). And they do include multiple styles for all 11 (at that time) official princesses.

Very pretty hairstyles and easy to follow instructions. But all of the styles are for long hair. I don't mean shoulder-length or even a decent amount past the shoulder, but long. Even Mulan and Rapunzel didn't have shorter styles. But if you or your child have long hair and want to look like a princess, grab this book.

It contains a section at the beginning teaching different styles of braids, so if you just want to up your braiding game, it's great for that as well.

For the princess in your life

Heads up, one thing I noticed as I looked through this book for the first time is that almost all of the models all have extra-long hair (mid-back to waist length).

At the beginning of the book is a "Braidschool," teaching you how to do the six basic braids that most of the hairstyles in the book are based on. These are line drawings (rather than actual models) showing the basic steps in each braid.

Then the book shows actual little girl models for each of the eleven princesses whose hairdos are shown. Each princess has 3 - 5 different hairdos shown (and actually, there are 40 hairstyles in the book, not 39).

These little girl models , for the most part, did NOT look happy in the demonstration photos. Sad, mad, little sourpuss faces. In the final pictures, they had big smiles. I don't know what's up with this.

The demonstration photos were pretty clear and well lit but the final pictures in some of the cases were dark and I couldn't see the hairstyle very well.

My favorite of all the hairstyles was "Rapunzel's Full Braid" - very classy looking.

Also, there are different pieces of equipment that are needed for some of the hairdos. These include:

Elastic bands
Bobby pins
Curling tongs
Topsy Tails
Hair doughnuts
Ribbon, headband, artificial flowers, and other hair decorations

If you have a Disney fan or a little princess of your own (mine is my twin granddaughter), this is a cool book to have. I don't know whether I'm coordinated enough to do many of the hairstyles but the pictures at least give me a starting point, OR something I can show my hairdresser friend so SHE can do the hairstyle.

NOTE: There aren't any of the FROZEN hairdos in this book. They rate a book all for themselves - "Disney Frozen Hairstyles: Inspired By Anna and Elsa."

NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a cute book with lots of hair styles inspired by various Disney Princesses. While most of them are not too difficult for an adult to do on another persons hair don't be fooled by the kids and Disney. This is a book for adults, do not expect any child to be able to pick this book up and do their own hair instantly. It will take a lot of work and practice to do many of these techniques and some of them take things we don't normally have around the house (like hair sponges to add poof to buns). It also is a book for mostly long hair, all the girls shown in the book have hair that are longer than their shoulders.

That being said it's not a bad book, it has lots of pictures and easy to understand instructions. This book is perfect for a mother looking for ideas of how to do her little princesses hair, or adults to do on their own hair. It does have some easier ones to, so people of different levels of experience can find ideas in this book. My daughter is 14 and she had difficulty with many of them, but they also gave her lots of great ideas. Our time with it at the library is up, but she liked it enough to ask me to place it back on hold for her to get it again.

There are some cute hair styles in here for kids with all hair types. And I mean *all* hair types: super curly, short, long, wavy, straight. Coarse, smooth: there's something for everyone. Pick your favorite princess and there's bound to be at least one style. Ranging from Elsa to Snow White, every Disney Princess lover can find a hairstyle in this book.

Extremely helpful book of hairstyles (mostly coils and braids) inspired by Disney Princesses. Each page has big, colorful photos or step-by-step illustrated instructions to transform your own little princess.

Excellent hairstyles, but some were tricky, and some required a Topsy Tail - a hair-styling tool that I did not have. Also, some styles were confusing, even with the helpful pictures. Overall though, you're bound to find some hairstyles to please.
