1945. Ranger Will McManis patrols an empty Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone, V-J day and his mother's death on his mind. His grandson, five-year-old Chuck, will leave soon, too, off to faraway Denver, a brand-new life, leaving a huge hole. Will thinks he knows all kinds of change. But out among the geysers with Chuck, something happens to dwarf it all, and nothing will ever be the same again.

I am fascinated by the possibilities of what if. The memories of place that some people call ghosts, the mobius effect of time travel. You won’t find vampires or werewolves here. Or horror. I am more interested in the potential effects of the fantastic on normal folks, and in inserting it into well-researched historical events, populated mostly by people who really lived.

My favorite period is the not-so-distant past of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and my favorite place, the one that draws me back over and over again, is Yellowstone National Park. Ten years ago, on a three-month cross-country adventure, I spent five days in Yellowstone, wandering the geyser basins waiting for things to go off. Watching my first-ever eruption of Grand Geyser, five lovely bursts 150-200 feet high, I suddenly thought, now wouldn’t that make a terrific time travel device. Other places and events have struck me in similar ways, and this is the basis for the stories I tell. I hope you will enjoy them.

I love this series! Not only because it is about the Yellowstone, but has ties in
Alaska and Seattle. The author lives in Puyallup WA one of my home towns. This was a book of sneak peaks, each chapter is about one of the books. I was so excite to see this series, I already bought the first book. I can hardly wait to start it. I really like the time travel part of it.

Time Waits for No One

The world breathes a collective sigh of relief. It's 1945. The second world war is officially over.

Park Ranger Will McManis is both happy and sad. The war is over, and his family members are headed home. On the other hand, his mother passed away as the end of the war was announced. He also dreads losing his grandson. He and his wife Karin have raised their beloved grandson Chuck, who lost his mother when he was born. His father was traumatized, and distanced himself emotionally and geographically from his son. Now after five years, the boy's father announced he was ready to take back his son from Will and Karin.

As Will patrols the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone with the active and curious Chuck, grandfather and grandson experience something amazing after the eruption of the Grand Geyser.

M. M. Justus' Homesick, a short story in the Time in Yellowstone, is a heartwarming science fiction romance. Ms. Justus skillfully weaves the story of a family with an odd secret.

I enjoyed this book, except it ended suddenly, leaving you hanging. It had a beginning, a middle but no end, leaving the reader feeling cheated.
