I've studied the human body for almost 30 years of my life. And it's always fascinated me. Yet, somehow, I am never really interested in stories that focus on body horror without much else to support it. And that's what this came down to. It was gory and nasty, showcasing a really intriguing premise, but that was all there was. Everything aside from the body horror was pushed aside and nothing really came to fruition for me. Lots of good plot points that weren't fully explored, some really interesting characters that were left mostly untapped, and it all just left me wanting a lot more than what was provided. Basic splatterpunk fans may have an ok time here, but not sure anyone else will.
This story was intense. I was lucky to receive an ARC from the author, and "powerful" was the word that kept coming to mind. The story follows Scott, who goes in for a routine vasectomy—but in true RJ fashion, things take a dark turn. It’s a body horror piece with medical themes, but it hits hard because it reflects real-life horrors in a way that feels painfully relevant. I won’t give away any details to avoid influencing other readers, but I will say it left me feeling genuinely angry.
RJ published this at the perfect time, and it’s a story that needed to be told.
Well the peen and sack I don’t possess have never hurt more. Like holy shit lol. This was unhinged and brutal, exactly as it was meant to be. Also short and sweet! I don’t have much more to say other than ouch! Read at your own risk lol. This is extreme horror and is graphic but honestly compared to other stuff I read it’s kinda mild. The thing that makes it intense is more so just because of the region of the body that’s focused on.
Sucks to be him. Absolutely brutal. One of those books that has you going: ew this character sucks and deserves…oh. Maybe not quite THAT. A short one but I enjoyed it overall. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
I did it! I got my first book of the year in on the first day of the year 🫡
Ryan does it again, I don’t know if it’s because I’m already sick reading this but it made me so queasy, sort of gave Tusk vibes which is a movie I enjoyed.
“I wish you all could appear in person, but medical voyeurism appears to be frowned upon.”
Ayyy yooooo… What the fuuuuck did I just read?! 💀 I have never been SOO glad not to have a penis in my entire life. 🚫🍆
I’m gonna try to keep this review serious, lmao. But damn. This one was freaking brutal to read, and I shouldn’t be laughing, so let’s just call this nervous laughter. 😅
“For this procedure, you will make an incision vertically down the entire shaft while the patient is fully erect.”
I mean come on. 😂 With lines that like that… fuckkkk… 🤣
Look, you see the name of the book. You see the cover. You see the two quotes I pulled. Now make it 10x more insane and bam. Powell writes yet another amazingly depraved tale. 🤌🏼
It’s a quick read. I binged it in one sitting. All while squirming and thanking sky daddy I didn’t have a ✨shaft.✨
So yeah. Grab a hold of your balls nice and tight, don’t take any meds your significant other gives you, and give this gem a chance. 🙏🏼
The community needed this book, and the community needed this book now. Hats off R.J. 🫡 You did it again, girl. Proud of you. 🫶🏼
"Scott felt the blade slide across his skin and attempted to let out a muffled scream behind his clenched jaw. It appeared he had been injected with a paralytic that prevented him from moving, but he could feel everything."
Scott is going in for a very routine vasectomy after him and his wife decide they don't want any more children. Things seem a little tense between them, and he seems like an asshole husband. When he comes round from the medication he's given prior to the procedure, he realises he's completely paralysed and can feel everything the doctor is doing to him, including some procedures he definitely didn't ask for..
This was a great little short read of revenge. It's so well written and scientifically precise as well as being fun the epitome of female rage, which, as we know, Ryan is great at writing! It's bloody and grim, and you'll be crossing your legs throughout!
Scott and Cynthia have made the decision together that to improve their marriage and sex life, Scott is going to get a vasectomy. As Scott gets comfortable and ready for his procedure in Dr. Mudgett’s office, he notices the cute nurse and has some other thoughts.. then he notices something is a little off. But the sleepy meds are kicking in and before he can ask questions he is out. When he comes to and realizing he can still feel everything - sh*t hits the fan for Scott!
My last 3 reads have been from this author. She is so fun! I enjoy the different perspectives on issues we have seen in the “real world” and for me, some of the things that happen in these books is what I WISH would happen to a-holes, predators, rapists, etc. I’ll say it again - she knows how to write feminine rage in some bad ass ways.
"Vasectomy" is a very graphic splatterpunk novella, and it did not disappoint.
Scott Devereaux is dropped off at the urologist by his wife Cynthia for what he believes is a routine procedure only to find out he's scheduled for multiple procedures. The worst part is that the procedures are all performed over the internet over an app, like Skype, for others to watch.
There's several twists, so I do recommend if you're okay with splatterpunk books to read this one as it's very quick (40 pages) to find out because boy does the plot thickens.
This is not for the weak stomached. I don't even have the male reproductive organs and this one had me clutching for pearls that I don't have.
As always, proceed with caution and read the trigger warnings. Read at your own risk.
WOW. This book left me SHOOK. The shocking twists this book takes that I definitely did not expect.. I'm for sure going to continue reading R.J. Powell and I am stoked for more. The way I went from sympathy, to anger, to wtf, confused, and all the things in 41 PAGES is wild. 5/5 ⭐️
R.J. Powell NEVER disappoints. I love her take on real world events. The revenge stories Powell creates are always perfect. Good for her! Sucks to be him. 😬
